Oracle support under PHP / 8i or 9 and a RedHat 9 / Apache 1.3.X machine

Hi,
I have a server (currently 7.1) with apache + php
compiled with oracle (and mcrypt, imap, gettext) support.
In order to do so I've installed the 8i linux
version, make a tar.gz of the libs directory and
installed in my server.
I runs fine accessing a remote (not mantained by me)
oracle database.
I am planning to switch to a newer distribution and
was considering the RH9 but with the "old" 1.3.x apache.
Since I do not actually use Oracle (just enable php
scripts to do so) I am kind of lost if the combo (old
8i libs with redhat 9) are stable enough or should I
try a newer version, such as oracle 9.
And in that case if is there a "developers" package/installation that enables me just to install the required libs/headers without having to actually install the whole db.
Since the answer can be slighty OT fell free to send
me directly.

I'm in a similar situation where i'm migrating from Win2k + PHP & want oracle support to connect to a remote server.
I got as far as installing redhat 9 & installing the oracle client.
I still can't get oracle to work in PHP though. doing a bit of research I dont think the redhat 9 RPM's come with oracle support compiled. I really dont want to be maintaining custom compiled php versions i'd rather just have up2date do it all. I hear you can get ODBC to work with oracle, but most of the stuff i've looked at covers doing this on windows, not linux.
If anyone out there has manager to get PHP & oracle working on RH9, without re-compiling PHP please let me know!

This is not a 'new' SQL, it has been run several times on Production and non-Production environments. Nothing
has been changed recently.
I am a bit worried about using this hidden parameter. Are there any side effects? (Like could it generate an ORA-600 if

Quite frankly I'm shocked. The developers here didn't develop the code for the Oracle Server. The bug, as you said, is an Oracle bug, how would developers who develop a product that uses Oracle know if a bug fix sanctioned by Oracle - a hidden parameter for an unpulished bug - impacts their product?
Please ensure that this SR is dealt with by one of your seniors.
I shall be posting the details of the SR on OTN.
Was I being harsh? Should the developers of a product that uses the Oracle Server know about the impact of a hidden parameter?
Would love to hear your opinions.

Your developers should know whether this parameter should have an effect on your system or notYes they will know the side effects had they been working with Oracle as developers for last 10 years or so and have now joined your company recently (and then developed the entire application in matter of days to hit the bug).

How to access Oracle DB from PHP on 10.5 server?

I am writing a PHP-based application that needs to pull data from an Oracle database... the app is hosted on a G5 server running 10.5.3.
Has anyone had any success building Oracle support into PHP on Leopard? Does anyone happen to know of a good howto to follow?

1. for this u will also require help of basis team.
2. these are the steps.
a) make an entry in DBCON
b) make connection string
(on the physical application server,
so that it can connect to secondary database)
(this will be done by basis team,
in which, they will specify the
IP address of the secondary database server,
the DATABASE ID, and the port number)
c) then using open sql / native sql,
we can use the secondary database connection,
just like normal.
d) if we use open sql,
then there must be Y/Z table on
sap as well as secondary database,
and the field names , their type all should be identical.

Compatability between Oracle 10g 10.2.0.3.0 and Apex 2.2

We have an Apex application with a bunch of APEX tree objects. The data for the tree comes from a materialized view. All was fine with the older version of Oracle database (1og 10.2.0.1.0) but when we applied the patch for 10.2.0.3.0 the trees are misbehaving (there are multiple root nodes, ID's are duplicated)
Is there any compatability issue? should we upgrade APEX to APEX2.2.1 or APEX 3.0

Raje,
You should first apply the 2.2.1 patch. This is easy and it is not an upgrade.
You should also test the materialized views outside of Application Express with your upgraded database.
Also, check with Oracle Support about bugs related to MVs and 10.2.0.3.

My Oracle Support unbearable 1hour timeout : Sign up to ask Oracle removing

Dear All,
1) You might have noticed that a new one hour session timeout has recently appeared on My Oracle Support site.
This is unbearable as we need to click "Continue" all along the day especially when you have several sessions opened (Dashboard, OnDemand, knowledgebase, etc...).
If as me you would like to put pressure on Oracle to get rid of this new (non-)enhancement, please put your comments and sign up this post.
2) I would also like to know from other Oracle customers about the eight hours session timeout that automatically forces you to re-login.
I would also like push Oracle to increase timeout to ten or twelve hours as a working day lasts more than eight hours if you include lunch time.
Oracle Manager responsible for this My Oracle Support settings only suggest to logout and re-login during lunch time....
Please put also your comments about this very annoying session timeout setup.

Understanding Oracle Support and License

Hi Gurus,
I have a few questions regarding Support for Database Product:
1. If I have Product License for 10gR2 EE, will I be supported on 9i and 11g.
2. Will it be legal to use 11g if Product Licence is for 10gR2
3. What is ULA (Unlimited License Agreement)
Can someone give me links for documents or suggest something? Any help is appreciated.

The answer is, it's insane. I mean, it depends.
For example, Oracle is giving a hard time to hp-ux Itanium customers, so you can have 9i and still get some patches under extended support until July 2012, but not with 10gR2 EE.

So some things to note:
You should not trust anything anyone on the internet tells you about licensing.
Different countries have different rules.
Keep anything from Oracle that you find on the internet locally, as it may change at any time.
You can try to download patches from support, it won't let you if you are not allowed. So if you are 10gR2 Itanium, you might be able to get a July CPU but not an October one.
Some scary stories are floating about concerning license audits.
Things you are not licensed for and have explicitly removed may come back with a patch, and then get caught in a license audit and you get charged.
Oracle support features can upload your configuration to Oracle, as well as make world-readable files on your host.
In general, you are licensed for a product, and pay support for patches.
In my honest opinion, it is stupid not to pay for support.
You should not trust anything anyone on the internet tells you about licensing.
There are also videos and notes on MOS explaining how to deal with support. Personally, I've found going through the methods listed often answer my questions before I get ready to ask support.

PHP 5.2.2 with Oracle support on AIX5.3 aix64

I am trying to compile PHP 5.2.2 with Oracle Instant Client support on an AIX 5.3 64 bit system.
(Below, $CV contains /opt/freeware/CV2)
I have installed Oracle Instant Client 10.1 (both base and sdk for AIX 64 bit) in directory: $CV/instantclient10_1
I have executed the following commands in that directory:
# ln -s libclntsh.a libclntsh.so
# ln -s libclntsh.a libclntsh.so.10.1
configure doesn't accept Oracle Instant Client 10.2.
The configure line for PHP is as follows:

I have also tried "--with-oci8-instant-client=$CV/instantclient10_1" instead of --with-oci8=... on the configure command line. That configured fine and gmake finished succesfully but when I tried, none of the oci_ or oci functions were known.
I have seen this problem a few number of times on the internet but nobody was able to provide a solution. PHP claims: "This is Oracle bug 4901517." but I have been unable to find it.
Can someone please help me out?

I am having the same issue, (php 5.1.4, AIX 5.2, instant client 10.1). I tried cj's solution, it got me up to the linking part, but dies when trying to create sapi/cgi/php with a lot of undefined symbols.
From the instructions I set the LIBPATH=/my_instant_client_dir.
Has anyone found what oratypes.h need to be changed to? Did this work for anyone else?

Did you purchase this device from Apple or an authorized reseller? It sounds as if you had a device that was jailbroken/hacked to operate on your carrier. Upon updating the iOS, it is now locked back to the original carrier the device was locked to.
Only the carrier the device is locked to can authorize an unlock. You will need to make contact with that carrier and see if they provide unlocking services, and if they do, if you qualify for an unlock. Otherwise, you are out of luck. One that carrier can take care of the unlocking.

Does anyone know what happened to oracle support in weblogic 7.0 for linux platform,
as it seems that the drivers are not included? Are there any discussions on that

It DOES appear that there is support for WebLogic jDriver for Oracle on Linux:

The strange thing here is that, apparently, the Oracle drivers located @ lib/linux/i686/oci817_8/libweblogicoci38.so
and lib/linux/i686/oci817_8/libweblogicoxa38.so are "Type 2" ODBC drivers which
require an Oracle client to be installed on the WebLogic machine, but Oracle doesn't
support installation of the client on RedHat 7.2, which is required (according
BEA's doc) for installation of WebLogic 7.0. Can someone reconcile this apparent
conflict?

Oracle Support and XMLP

Is it only me or anyone else experiencing less than stellar responses from Oracle Support for XMLP ?
We are on 5.6.2 + EBiz suite and I am not able to generate an eText file using APIs. According to OSS, I should be reading 5.6.1 documentation.
Does that sound right ? I am little confused now as to why I should refer to 5.6.1 when we are using 5.6.2 core apis.

It's been a year after those posts about the limit of identifiers in Oracle Database. Does anybody know what can be done to get rid of that primitive limit? We are developing using Application Servers, Java, generated Code and a very nice object model, in which we can't just use abreviations because of early database age memory shortcomings.
We are currently using 8i in a very large organization. Is there any chance this version can be configured to allow larger identifiers? Is upgrading to 9i going to solve this problem? Is Oracle Databases really doomed forever because of a 20-year-ago limitation?
Please, I do like Oracle Databases. I don't want to be flooded with quick answers like "just use 32 character identifiers". I would like to hear a serious solution. Is anybody there still locked in the 8.3 filename paradigm of MS/PC-DOS? Does anybody has to fit an entire Enterprise System in segmented 640Kb of memory? Does anybody has to use monochrome character mode interfaces? Of course not those in the mainstream.
I also know that other hadrware and software products have lots os limitations. Take Windows 2000. Its command line has a limit of 255 characters! You can't have more than 4GB of memory in a PC! However, one can't expect one mistake to justify others.
I wish I were very wrong in this respect, and all it should be necessary is to turn on some kind of configuration parameter in 8i to allow us to develop high quality code.

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

No, it's not supported under any 64-bit operating system.
