Oracle UCM Licensing

Guys.........need your help very badly........
I have a requirement and need your guidance in terms of UCM Licensing in Canada.
My client wants to convert all his hard copies into soft copies and make those documents searchable.
I suggested Oracle UCM since it satisfies our needs.
I am planning to use ODC to scan documents and upload it into UCM content server (10gr3)
This is for internal purpose and we are not trying build any application on top of it and sell it.
I am curious to know if we can download it from Oracle E delivery and use it or does it still require enterprise License.
Please help me in clarifying the same.
I tried contacting sales guys in canada ([email protected])
but the mail bounced back....
eagerly waiting for your reply

In general, I am sure you need a license (your company, not the client).
Few more notes:
- any Oracle product is available for 1 month for free
- if you don't plan to use a product perpetually, you can ask for a terminated license (e.g. for 1 year)
- if you are somewhere between 1 month and 1 year, you can ask for special conditions - I'm sure Oracle reps in Canada will be able to help you; if you are a registered partner, contact your channel manager

  • Does oracle ucm license allow to use itext libraries for splitting pdf

    Hello,
we want to create a component which uses the itext component for splitting pdf files. The itext component comes with the oracle ucm 11g standard installation.
Our question would be, if it is allowed to use the itext libraries for our own needs, since the libs come with the standard ucm installation.
    Where can we find out?
    Greetings
    Bodhy

My understanding is you will require additional licences for the new installation in production. However, I am not an Oracle employee, a licencing expert or a lawyer, so I advise you to discuss this with your Oracle account manager.
    Cheers, APC

Weblogic Server is a part of Oracle UCM license - in the restricted mode to host UCM (you will need it for 11g, as it is a J2EE application). So, unless you want to use it for other apps as well, it is not needed. HTTP Server is definitely not needed - Weblogic Server should contain a web server, if you need one, or you can go with another web server like Apache.
As for the solution architecture, it quite a subtle art and as you give absolutely no details, I'm afraid it is quite difficult to answer anything. You can start with sizing - product management released (alas, internally) a sizing tool, which can answer you a question how many CPUs of UCM (application server layer) are needed. It is based on the number of concurrent users and workload they produce (GUI, search/document retrieve, checkins, conversions to PDF, conversions to multimedia formats). Once you have this, you need to consider high-availability (a cluster in one location) and disaster recovery (backup-restore or even geo clustering). There is no formula to give you the right answer, but if you require HA, you might need RAC (Real Application Clusters) at the DB layer - app layer might be cluster by Weblogic and you might also need a load balancer. For DR, you might use database options (partitioning, DataGuard). Do not forget to consider the storage (even under database)! Especially, for large storage requirements (hundreds of TB and more) it can make your project much cheaper if you use the correct storage policy (using database ASM or HSM of filesystems such as ZFS or QFS).
Recommended HW - especially, if you need clustering, go with installation on Linux or Solaris. This will most likely lead to servers on Intel. You may go with any almost any proposal by a HW vendor of that kind (Sun Fire or blades). Just put there enough memory (12 GB at least per 2 cores of CPU). For multicore and multiprocessor servers, use Oracle VM or Solaris Zones to scale to your required number of CPUs of UCM and database (a rule of thumb: you will need half to two thirds CPUs of database compared to the number of UCM's CPUs).
However, keep in mind you might need to fine tune the generic architecture to your client's needs (e.g if you have heavy conversions)

  • Oracle UCM VS Share Point

can any one please give me the diffrences between oracle UCM and Sharepoint?

I am not really experienced in the subject, but they say that sharepoint's document management solution is not very good because it has the tendency to slow down if used heavily, but it's Portal capabilities are very good and chosen by the majority of technical community. UCM is very good at enterprise content management with its Web, and Desktop Integration Suite. For portal, you can develop your custom components in UCM, or you can license Webcenter, but there is still some time for Webcenter and UCM products to integrate better (workflows, and such). Still you can do it yourself. Hope the better professionals won't get mad at me at this post.

  • Linking Knowledge Directory to Oracle UCM

I have my Portal running in ALUI. I need to create a Knowledgebase – possibly external as this needs to be accessed by applications other than the portal as well – but I need to search/browse through this from the portal. The Search UI / inputs will be based on pre-determined properties of the documents / files in the Knowledgebase.
If I use Oracle UCM to create and manage this repository, could I use the ALUI's Knowledge Directory to point to these documents/content? The properties of the files defined in UCM should be fetched by the KD and used to build the KD Search and Browse interfaces.
If I already have the license for UCM, is this possible to do and a good way of doing it; or are there better options?

Oracle says in their 11g version roadmap that UCM will be more integrated to WCI. Even now, there is a content portlet suite provided in UCM which can be consumed in WCI via WSRP and this is officially supported by Oracle. (There are many other ways possible too as UCM is designed to integrate with portals)
Also I have read that there were several integration implemetations done between these two even years back when they were still in the Stellent and Plumtree avatars.
<Please verify this...! :)> Definitely UCM is going to strenghten WCI but then I guess the commercially, this is going to be very expensive. Unlike WebLogic portal, WCI is not going to be offered stand-alone anymore and you need to get it along with the complete WebCenter suite. that Plus UCM cost.. hmmmm..

  • Oracle UCM vs Oracle IPM

    Hi ,
Whats the difference between UCM and IPM, When we need to go for IPM ?.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Karai

Until 11g, they were separate products (if I remember it correctly, I/PM was a .NET application, while UCM was/is a Java app). Since 11g, I/PM is an add-on to UCM, ie. it is built as an application enhancement on UCM's Content Server.
I/PM is designed to process (mainly scanned) images and bind them to processes such as Accounts Payable in EBS. Unlike UCM, it has a restricted use of Oracle BPM Suite for modeling, executing and monitoring of processes (UCM license contains only BPEL PM) and I believe there is a bunch of reference processes to EBS available somewhere. Therefore, use I/PM if your client is looking processes on images. Yes, you can do the same with UCM only, but I/PM will provide you with more convenient tools. If your client needs both imaging and working with live documents, you are probably looking for the ECM Suite product, which contains both (together with URM).

  • How to download a file from Oracle UCM using OSB

    Hi,
How can I download a file from Oracle UCM and save it on a filesystem using OSB 11.1.1.5.
    Thanks

UCM supplies webservice interfaces which let you retrieve the filecontent by soap calls from UCM (http://ucmhost/_dav/cs/idcplg for example). (maybe you should enable some settings on ucm to have this webservice interface getting published).
This services for example has 2 operations getFileByID and getFileByName.
So you can just call these services from within OSB.
After that you need to do some tests if you eitherway need to create a file-transport business-service and call this one from your proxy service or create a messageType proxyservice (binary)  which calls this file-transport business service to be able to write fo filesystem.
I think for the OSB book i used a jca file adapter generated in Jdeveloper and used that one to write to filesystem.

  • How to send file as attachment in Email in Oracle UCM

    Hi All,
I have created a simple html form which executes my custom service( internally calls java method) to send a email "forms data" to the user. I need to send file as attchment in email so how i can do it in oracle ucm.Currently i am using intradoc api.I am using a jquery plugin for sending forms data including uploaded file.
function which i am using in java for sending emails:-
    InternetFunctions.sendMailTo(emailStr, "MyMail", subject, this.m_service);
I have set method="post" and enctype="multipart/form-data" in the form
So plz help to provide a solution to send a file as attchment in email
    Thanks,
    user9018217

From what I remember, there isn't an "out of the box" solution since InternetFunctions only provides some basic email functions (try decompiling the class to see what's available).
Here's the link for the original Stellent 10gR3 sample components: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/content-management/index-092832.html. Take a look at the AcmeMail component within the HowTo Components sample. It shows how to create a custom idcservice that sends basic emails. You can use that as a baseline for creating your own email service and then use something like JavaMail to implement attachments. That's what I did.
Good luck, and please award points as necessary.

  • Oracle 10g Licensing Query

    Hi,
I have a query with regards to Oracle 10g licensing for additional options (OLAP, Data Mining, Partitioning, Spatial & Database Vault) on top of enterprise edition.
Even though i am not using any of the options, i have them installed along with enterprise edition. Do i still need to pay for these additional options?
From 10g, you can always prove to oracle that any of the features/options are not in use via DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS.
We are using shared infrastructure for hosting many application databases. Today we have a application that uses only partitioning, but tommorrow we might have to create a database within the same oracle home that uses OLAP & data mining as well.
would be interested in knowing what is oracle stand on this i.e. we pay for additional options only if we are using them or we pay just because they are installed regardless of we are using them or not??
    Thanks & Regards
    Chandar

    Chandark,
You need to pay licenses if you are using it commercially and if it is installed and you haven't paid for it then how would you stop anyone not using it because its not paid but its there. This will be against your contractual agreement and they may fine you or you have to pay for the options. So I recommend not to install options you haven't paid for to avoid any issues. But if you are using for learning purpose and not commercial then you are good. You can further contact local Oracle Support or local Sales rep for more information
    Hope this helps, regards

  • Can execut a query in Oracle UCM to get View_Values instead of using GET_SC

    Dear All,
i have a question that i had google it and didn't find anything helpful.
i want to ask if i can execut a query in Oracle UCM to get View_Values instead of using GET_SCHEMA_VIEW_VLAUES service ?
ie: asuume that we have a Table name called Employees (having empId, empName) and have a view named as Table name; Employees.
instead of use the GET_SCHEMA_VIEW_VLAUES service to get the data of Employees, can i write a query, ex: select from Employees*_ to get the data.
note: i have a connection parameter to connect to oracle UCM database
    any suggestions.
    Regards

Yes, you can execute the query and store results into a result set (available also in iDocScript).
There are two sample components that you could use as a starting point - see here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/content/howtocomponentsbundle-132171.zip or here for 11g http://bexhuff.com/2011/03/howto-component-samples-for-oracle-ucm-11g
Take a look at DataAccess and DatabaseProvider from the sample stack.

  • Best practice guide for Batch Load utility in Oracle UCM.

    Hi,
Is there any best practice guide for Oracle UCM Batch Loader utility.
We are looking for information regarding batch size in terms of number and size of contents. Also is there any loading time standards considering the contents are uploaded in filesystem where filestore provider is configured?
    Thanks,
    Krishnendu

    Hi ,
There are no specific set of steps / practices for batch loading contents to ucm . It would be very much dependent on how many contents does the user have to load to UCM and how well the server is configured in terms of performance .
You can get more details from the following documentation link : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21043_01/doc.1111/e10792/c02_settings009.htm

  • Oracle UCM 10gr3 and webcenter 11g, WCM Portlets

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle UCM 10gR3, Site Studio 10gR4 and Webcenter 11g. Now my problem is how to get the WYSIWIG (WCM Portlet) created in UCM to be retrieved in webcenter spaces.
My understanding after reading some articles is the only way i can communicate is through WSRP (CIS and CPS), if that is the case can u suggest what is the difference between them and which one is best one for a Intranet Application. Please also provide the example for the portlet and the steps to install them locally.
i not asking to give all the answers at a time. Just share bit by bit even if u have some knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Pradeep.
    I am a Newbie!!!

    Hey Pradeep,
You have lots of options for retrieving content from UCM in WebCenter besides CIS and by extension CPS. The best article on the subject can be found here (if you haven't already read it): http://blogs.oracle.com/fusionecm/2010/04/oracle_ucm_integration_with_we.html
To more directly answer your questions the difference between CIS and CPS is that CIS is the lower level API that actually does the communication with UCM. It serializes your request across the socket and handles the response data that comes back packaging it up as easy to use objects. CPS leverages CIS as its backend to allow the portlets to communicate with UCM.
For an intranet application you have lots of options. For document management I would recommend a combination of the Document Library taskflow along with a couple of the CPS portlets (my workflow assignments, etc). To retrieve content to display as part of an intranet "site" I would leverage the Content Presenter taskflow.
If the content to be retrieved is Site Studio 10gr4 assets I would instead recommend that you roll your own simple content portlets. That is what we ended up doing at Fishbowl and have reused them to great affect implementing several intranet portals for different customers in a very short amount of time. • Oracle UCM 11G missing Web Form Editor

    Hello All,
Oracle 10G UCM provided a WebForm Editor. After installation of newer version Oracle UCM 11G we found the feature is missing.
Is there a substitute provided by Oracle in 11G version for the same?
We need to provide functionality to end users where they could go and create some forms on their own. We were thinking to use Web-Form Editor for the same, but to our surprise we found the feature is missing.
Can anyone suggest if we are missing something. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Kent,
You're correct that the general UCM docs don't include that detail, but the FormEditor component readme.txt does include that info. I didn't open the readme.doc, but the readme says that there's more info in there.
    From the component readme:
    <snip>
    Updated 2010-02-16
The HTML editor UI is now only enabled if the configuration parameter HasWebFormEditorUI is set
    to true. See BUG 9218712
    </snip>
    Thanks,
