Oracle Universal Instal fail memory check Result:255MB but total PC is 512M
Does anyone know why did OIU not find the 512MB on the PC when installing Oracle 10g personal edition?

If on Windows, navigate to the setup folder and issue setup.exe -ignoresysprereqs
if Linux/Unix/OSX then navigate to the folder with runInstaller and issue ./runInstaller -ignoresysprereqs
If you get an error, report it back.

Oracle 9i install failing on Solaris 10
Oracle 9i install on Solaris 10 fails at the Database creation stage with Ora error "Out of Memory"
I have a Ultra 10 with 1GB RAM, 2GB swap and lot of space in the filesystem where I am installing Oracle
The oracle release notes asks for increased value for shmmax, shmmni etc by editing /etc/system and according to Solaris 10, it is not required as kernel dynamically allocates those values. It looks like it is NOT. How can I verify?
rcladm talks about shmmax values only with projects. How can I verify that all my applications running on a this box has a higher SHMMAX values and not on per project basis.
In older versions, sysdef could tell us the current SHMMAX values. Is there any comparable commands in Solaris 10.
I am not that comfortable with the rcladm features. Can some one show some examples.
Is anyone successful in installing Oracle9i on Solaris 10. I heard Oracle patch set 9.2.0.5 and 9.2.0.6 is certified with Solaris 10. Does it mean the original version of 9.2 does not install on Solaris 10?'Net Configuration Assistant is failing" from installation. I tried twice and got the same problem. I tried to run 'netca' from the command line and got the same problem - Java runtime problem. I tried to install patch and could not find Oracle patches for Solaris 10 and the patches are for Solaris 9.
Does anyone have suggestion?

Oracle 11i Install fails on InstantiateFile ... instconf.drv
I am trying to install Oracle 11i E-Business Suite on a Windows 2K server and keep running into a problem with the install hanging after all the DB files have been unzipped. The step in the adrun9i.cmd script that seems to be hanging is "InstantiateFile -d <path>\instconf.drv
I believe I have all the Oracle specific quirks covered - i.e., MKS Toolkit installed, gnumake in right place, VC++ anchor without spaces, linker (link.exe) copied to system32 folder, etc.
I would appreciate any insight that anyone can provide.
PS: I don't believe resource is the problem - W2K system with 1GB RAM and ~110GB storage for Oracle 11i alone. You need MS Visual Studio/C++ 6.0 + SP3 or later. .NET version is not supported. See Metalink note 201392.
If you copy the installed Visual Studio installation then the environment variables will still point to the original directory. There is a VCVARS32.BAT file in VC98/Bin which sets the Visual C++ environment for command line usage. It is generated during the Visual Studio installation, so it also contains the original installation directory references.
I think the best practice is to completely remove the failed Oracle installation, reinstall Visual Studio 6.0 to C:\MSVC directory. It is tricky since Visual Studio 6.0 install asks for
"Choose a directory for common files:".
Enter: C:\MSVC\COMMON
Then you enter in rapidwiz the "MSDEV" directory as: C:\MSVC\VC98.
Do not forget to check in the "Register environment variables" during VS6.0 install and also apply Visual Studio 6.0 SP3 or later.
I think there is a link.exe in the MKS toolkit as well. windows/system32 folder is before the MKS bin folder int the PATH environment so that is how it is "solved". I simply deleted link.exe from MKS bin directory. (I use Cygwin instead of MKS software).

Oracle 7 install fails with Windows XP SP3
After installing Windows SP3 on systems with XP Professional 32 bit, we cannot install Oracle 7.3.4, which is required for an older 16 bit program. Running the Oracle 7 setup.exe returns an error "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application". The installer file is not corrupt, we can still run the setup successfully on any computers that still have XP Pro SP2 installed.
However, systems that had Oracle 7.3.4 installed prior to the Windows SP3 update will run the software OK; it is just new installations of Oracle 7.3.4 that fail.
I have tried running the install off of a CD, network drive, and copied the files to the local machine, all return the same error. I have tried different users all with Admin privileges. I tried installing with each compatibility mode checked, clean booting the machine, and updating Windows Installer. I always get the "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application" error.
Any suggestions or info?
ThanksHere is some updated information.
Systems that have been in service for a long time and updated from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3 will not run the Oracle 7 installer. All machines that still have SP2 will run the installer.
However, systems that we recently formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Pro with SP2, and then updated to SP3, will run the installer for Oracle 7 with SP3 already installed. This indicates that it is not SP3 that is the issue. It could be an update that was done in the past (Microsoft or another software vendor), or some different file that is on the other machines (same brand, models, and OS, just been in service without being formatted recently).
We also have Oracle 10g on all the systems, but the old CrisPlus program probably won't run with Oracle 10g, because we have to add "C:\ORAWIN\BIN" to the system Environmental Variables or we get a "Ora7win.dll" error when launching the CrisPlus program. An Oracle expert or programmer may know how to work around this issue, but I do not know how.
This does give us options to fix the Oracle 7 issue. Either rollback the SP3 update and then install CrisPlus prior to the installation of SP3, or format the systems and reinstall Windows XP Pro, Service Pack3, and Oracle 7.
Thanks for the input. If anyone thinks of an easier workaround please let me know. -

You may need to reinstall grub afterwords.
i would do that but boot is ext2.....it ooks lke the problem is wth the superblock of root.....any ideas?
Then why did you write this:

How to install "Oracle Universal Content Management 10g Patch Update Bundle
I have downloaded and installed Oracle Content Server 10g r3 , and i did a simple cycle for a work-flow , and after that i downloaded "Oracle Universal Content Management 10g Patch Update Bundle", but when i opened the file i found that it contains many folder and some without a setup files , so how can i install the patch update bundle file ?
ThanksAlthough what Srinath is true and correct, it is advised that you always install all the enabled components. The only situations where this is not the case is where:
1. You have a newer component than is in the bundle (i.e. you recently had a patch for that component which is newer than the bundle).
2. You have customised the component in question for your own use - in which case a newer version would overwrite your customisations.
Otherwise, you should install all the enabled components if possible.

Failed to install CS3 on Vista - Component Install Failed
I am unable to install Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard on Windows Vista 32-bit OS.
Short version:
When I insert the installation CD and go to auto play, it says that Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional is all ready installed and greys it out, making it impossible to select as a choice. Funny thing is, Adobe Acrobat 8 shouldn't be installed - more details on that debacle below. Then when I try to install the rest, Shared Components installs successfully but the rest of the programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Version Cue) don't and cite "Component install failed".
The Beginning:
This all started with the pesky "Licensing for this product has stopped working" etc. So I went and tried all the solutions Adobe provided about FlexNet. Those didn't work. So I sucked it up and went to uninstall and install.
When I went to install, things seemed to be fine, shared components were installed and it started installing InDesign. Then, my computer decided to randomly shut down during Adobe installation.
Upon restart, I tried installing again and got the Component install failed error messages for everything but Shared Components. So then I tried going to Add/Remove programs to uninstall Creative Suite.
That seemed to remove everything except Acrobat 8. The add/remove window did not list Acrobat 8 as an option to uninstall. So I went to Adobe's solution about how to uninstall Acrobat 8. Ran the C5 Cleaner Tool. Then went to cmd to del AcroIEHelper, Acro PDF, pdfshell etc. Was told "Access denied". So then I went to manually delete from Program Files, took ownership of what files I could and deleted everything except Acrobat\Resource\CMap. These files appear to be read-only. Attempting to delete says "You need permission to perform this action. Try again".
I attempted to install ignoring that there's little pieces of Acrobat 8 still on the computer. Again, got component install failed.
I think the problem is that I can't clean up the last remnants of the previous install of CS 3, which Adobe lists as a potential cause for the Component install failure.
All ready tried solutions:
C5 Cleaner
Safe Mode
Programs to delete files : Eraser, CCleaner
Disabling permissions (still get "you need permission)
What else can I try to fix this?
Thank you!
[email protected]Thank you Bob. Good to know. I'm getting a tech guy to come in tomorrow to take a stab at it. If he finds anything, I will update this post in case it helps out others in similar cases.

CRS install fails Oracle home incompatibility checks ( 10G )
Hi,
I'm trying to install RAC for 10.2.0 . The first step is to install cluster Ready Services ( On red hat linux ) . When it does the product specific prequisite checks, it fails on "Checking for Oracle home incompatibilities".
I get the error " Oracle clusterware cannot be installed into an existing oracle home".
I did a previous attempt at an install which failed. I have completely deleted the
/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs directory which was previously created.
If I check the environment variables, I get :
[oracle@rac1 db_1]$ env | grep -i home
HOME=/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
So, in my thinking there is no trace now of a previous home for CRS.
So why am I getting the error ??
Thanks
GeorgeIt seems taht you have not cleared the inventory..As menioned earlier use OUI to remove the oracle_home from inventory. In case you do not wish to use the existing ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 or any other Oracle Installation on this server, then you can go ahead and remove the inventory itself.
You can use Note:239998.1 for the various files to be removed for cleaning up CRS..

Can someone help kick off the OUI installer. Our customer if getting impatient in not getting it to run. Any help appreicaited
ThanksThanks for the replies...
FYI.
I have cloned an Oracle 9i database on a DR test server.
Now I am installing Oracle Application server 10g Forms and Reports (9.0.4) on Solaris 5.10
This is using a Oracle CD which is for Solaris 5.9 but using twp patches supplied by oracle to run the CD from. So it is able to run on Solaris 5.10. It has been done before but by some past DBA some 5 years ago. This is the first time I am attempting this being a new employee here.
I have implemented these suggestions.
Especially the fact that it was looking for a gunzip utuility which it couldn't find. To make it easirer Ij ust copied the gunzip utility to the place it was looking for, and renamed it unzip. As it was loooking for unzip
This worked and passed through.
Created the temp temp directory as welll so it would not have issues in not writting to the tmp directory.
The error I'm getting is below
bash-3.2$ pwd
/data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701
bash-3.2$ /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/SOLARIS/RUNINSTA -paramFile /data02/FMSinvoice/appsFR904/INSTALL/ForSolaris5_10/4494701/ORAPARAM.INI

I am running humingbird Exceed, and have also set the DISPLAY to my screen.
FYI I am running this from home so the 256 collours error would probably be ok if I did it from work (as I will on Monday)
However I would prbably still get the java error. Should this not be resolved using Exceed though?
