Oracle_unqname and oracle_hostname

Hi guys,
Every time i want to stop dbconsole or to start it, i'm prompted to set ORACLE_UNQNAME. Ok, i set it, and then i get an EM configuration issue. How, or where should i (re)define these settings, so the ORACLE_UNQNAME being set to 'orcl' and ORACLE_HOSTNAME to 'localhost'? I did not want every time to set them..
C:\Documents and Settings\Sorin>emctl stop dbconsole
Environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME not defined. Please set ORACLE_UNQNAME to da
tabase unique name.
C:\Documents and Settings\Sorin>set ORACLE_UNQNAME=orcl
C:\Documents and Settings\Sorin>emctl stop dbconsole
EM Configuration issue. D:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1/roger_orcl not found.
C:\Documents and Settings\Sorin>set ORACLE_HOSTNAME=localhostThanks

Ok, koszi ;)
but however...
C:\Documents and Settings\Sorin>emca -deconfig dbcontrol db

  • Echec to install Oracle database 11gr2 in  OEL5.6, OEL 5.5 and RHEL 5.6

I try to install Oracle 11gr2 in Linux with the traditionnal installation but after several installation test i am disappointed.
i make test on several distribution of Linux 64bits (OEL 5.6, OEL 5.5, RHEL 5.6) and SAME result : The installation of Oracle stop at 81 % .
I have installed the packages required with the command line : yum install oracle-validated
I thinks it's a problem of library but what library ?
    Thanks you by advance.

  • 11g R2 wont work under windows 2008 R2 doesnt support UTC, and cant change.

I posted this in error under general, and got no responses. So now Im cutting and pasting it into installation, in a last ditched attemtp to find a way to get a clean installation of oralce on a clean installation of Windows Server 2008 R2 working.
    Problem:
    1) cannt connect to oracle outside of box. Get "TNS Connection timeout occured"
    2) em console "Sepecify Host and Target Database Credentials" always says "Connection refused: connect", even though the OS user/pass and DB user/pass are correct.
    What does work:
    1) I can "select * from dual" using "sqlplus / as sysdba" from the commandline on the box itself.
    2) Once, before I got em console half working, I could connect to the DB from outside the box with SYS as SYSDBA using toad. Now I cant.
    How I installed it:
    1) created a user called "oracle" and put them in the Administrators group.
    2) ran the downloaded installer for enterprise version, partition option chosen, AL32UTF8 char set, global db name: orcl, sid: orcl, "Assert all new security settings on" (No idea what this is) etc.
    3) at the end of the installer it came up with the following error:
"Set the environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME to the database unique name"
3.5) opened up the incomming connections in the windows FW for 1158 and 1521 TCP from all.
    4) set ORACLE_UNQNAME as a system env var for oracle as "orcl"
    5) set ORACLE_HOME to c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0 (or should this be c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1 ??)
    6) set ORACLE_SID to orcl
    7) set ORACLE_HOST to dilbert (the machine name)
    Rebooted.
    8) logged into em console on https:
dilbert:1158 (works from inside or outside the box).
    9) Entered the oracle windows user userame & pass, and SYS and pass (with connect as SYSDBA). However, it always says "Connectoin refused: connect"
Im not using a domain. computer name is correctly setup as "dilbert" in the OS.
I cant think of anything to try, and dont know how to start debugging this problem.
If I look at the running services, i see:
    OracleDBConsolorcl Stopped
    OracleJobSchedulerORCL Stopped
    OracleMTSRecoveryService Stopped
    OracleOraDb11g_home1CLRAgent stopped
    OracleORADb11g_home1TNSListener Stopped
    OracleServiceORCL Running
    OrclVssWriterORCL Stopped
nd if i try and start those services as oracle (who is in the Administrators group) it says "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied". If I run task manager as Administrator, I can start all of them except for the TNSListener which doesnt do anything, you say start, and it stays stopped. No errors, now warnings. and the JobSchedulreORCL which says no associated devices.
HAving manually started some of the services (no idea if you are supposed to do that, cant find any installation documentation which covers before/after running the installer), when I try and specify the host and target database credentials in em console, it says:
    Validation Error
    Please correct the following error:
dbUserPassword - This field must be specified
However, the DB password for SYS IS specified and correct - so I have no way to fix this.
I cant find anyinformatin online where to look for log files, but there is nothing in sysman\log
Now em console is saying "Conection refused" again, and the following process have killed themselves (as will I soon)
    OracleDBConsolercl Stoppped
The others which I succeded in starting are still running. So TNSListener nor jobscheduler will start, and Consolerocl kills itself after a minute.
Well, looks like I'm on my own on this one. Oracle will not intall on windows, and none seems to have noticed. Doing a day of googling reveals that all the log files which are supposed to live in sysman/log do not exist in this installation, so no help there.
However, I did find an obscure log which says:
The agentTZRegion value in C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\wario_orcl/sysman/config/emd.properties is not in agreement with what agent thinks it should be.Please verify your environment to make sure that TZ setting has not changed since the last start of the agent.
The TZ of the windows server is set to "UTC" at long time ago. There is nothing in the oralce windows installation guide to say "Do not use UTC, the most comon server time zone in europe". There is no mention of supported windows timezones.
Now if Oracle doesnt support basic UTC, then we are all in trouble.
There are hundreds of articles with this problem and how to solve it on Unix, but almost none for Windows. Do we have to solve Oracle installation bugs ourselves? Is there no support?
Doing the below reveals that Oracle thinks that UTC is America/Rio_Branco. That HAS to be a bug.
    C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>emctl config agent getTZ
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control Release 11.2.0.1.0
Copyright (c) 1996, 2010 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
Unable to open file for logging. C:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1/wario_orc
    l/sysman/log/emctl.log: Permission denied
    America/Rio_Branco
    So what next?
The list of "supported" timezones in supportedtzs.list only lists UNIX timezones, and NO UTC!!!!!
Googling this turns up nothing - noone on the planet seems to use UTC on their servers. I find this absolutely shocking.
Windows server ONLY users UTC - it doesnt support GMT any more.
So I have to now randomly try timezones in Windows which I dont want, which will be different from all the other servers in the Datacenter. It means all our reports will be out by 1 hour in summer ifI have to chose a timzeone which has daylight savings, compared with all the other databases which are UTC (not daylight savings).
I would expect this from freeware maintained by one person in his garage.
It seems that this Timezone issue emans Oracle will not run on windows.
Tried a lot of things, including setting the timzeonse in windows to be "(UTC) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London", which unfortuantely is not UTC (as it is affected by daylight savings).
    When you run
    "emctl config agent getTZ"
    you get:
    "Europe/London"
The only oracle documentation I can find on this subject tells you to edit the emd.properties, and modify the agentTZRegion property, which doesnt exist.
    I tried the following command:
    "c:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>emctl resetTZ agent"
    Which tells you to execute:
    SQL> exec mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London')
    SQL> commit
However, when I do this, I get:
    SQL> exec mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London')
    BEGIN mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London'); END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-20233: Invalid agent name wario:3938

Great. Obviosly, Im loggin in as SYS as no other users have been setup, and certainly I have not seen nor created nor set the password for "em repository user".

    BEGIN mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn('wario:3938','Europe/London'); END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-20233: Invalid agent name wario:3938
    ORA-06512: at "SYSMAN.MGMT_TARGET", line 3811
    ORA-06512: at line 1
Great. Obviosly, Im loggin in as SYS as no other users have been setup, and certainly I have not seen nor created nor set the password for "em repository user".

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Agent deployment (Installation and Configuration) Error

    Hello,
I am trying to create an agent on a linux server using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3. The user is created with root privilege on the server, by change /etc/sudoers entry username the same as the root entry. After that I tried to add host target by clicking Setup->Add Target->Add target Manually->Add Host Targets in the Oracle Enterprise Manager.
In the Add Target view: I clicked on add, then I entry host and platform information. After that I click next. Then I provided the Linux x86-64 : Installation Details for
Installation Base Directory, Instance Directory, Name Credential ... then click next. then click Deploy Agent.
In the Add Host Status view: stages Initialization and Remote Prerequisite Check successfully passed, but in the stage Agent Deployment, it failed in the Installation and Configuration phrase of the Agent Deployment stage.
The log content is shown below. There are numerous SEVERE Errors. But I don't have much experience in dealing with these type of problems. I thank you in advance for all the helps.

       Hello AkankshaSheoranKaler
We have done the following, but we aren't able to resolve this issue. Thank you for your help!
    lf
“This  happen if the software library is not accessible, readable or unmounted (if it is in shared file system).”
On Enterprise Manager server [nsn175-105], we did the following:
    1. we modified /etc/exports to include this line: /export *(rw,no_root_squash,sync)
we start nfs service by executing command “service nfs start”.
On Management Agent server (nsn175-89), we verified that we are able to mount /export directory of EM server.
On Management Agent server, we started firefox browser and were able to run successfully https://nsn175-105.us.oracle.com:4904/empbs/genwallet
After making this change, we ran agent deployment again. We encountered the same error as shown above.
“You can fix the software library or you can download the agent bits in offline mode.”
For fixing the software library, select Setup->Provision and Patching->Offline Patching, then select Offline Patching radio button, download: https://updates.oracle.com/download/em_catalog.zip. Next upload this zip file.
    “Try downloading the bits again”
We are not sure what agent bits are. Would you please explain this and provide procedure how we can download this?
(Here I have attempted to fix the software library, but I am new to Enterprise Manager and not sure how to interpret this).

  • Upgrade OMS 10.2.0.5 to 11.1.0.1 ORACLE_HOSTNAME

    Hi, guys
I'm going to upgrade OMS 10.2.0.5 to 11.1.0.1. Current configuration is active passive protected by clusterware 11.1.0.7. Grid Control Repository is in RAC on those node too.
The question is: in order to upgrade the OMS Do I need to export oracle_hostname before run ./runInstaller command? Or The upgrade process will take care of it and pick up the virtual hostname and don't want to re secure my 500 agents again.
    Thanks in advance guys

I was not able to login to the forum from past few hours hence the delay.
To clarify:- If you are doing 2-system upgrade then while invoking the 12.1.0.2 installer you can pass this parameter and we also have a hostname field in the installer UI which will show the hostname that EM installer will use to perform the install of 12c OMS on that host. You can make sure that this field has virtual hostname.
In Pre-upgrade console, you need to provide the hostname so that we can created a db link, in that section provide the virtual hostname
So if you provide virtual hostname in these 2 places the setup with be done accordingly.
In 1-system upgrade- we don't ask any hostname in pre-upgrade console, so you just need to check the hostname field in the 12c installer that it has virtual hostname.

  • Variable oracle_unqname not documented in Admin reference

I note that the environment variable ORACLE_UNQNAME ties back to DB_UNIQUE_NAME, an init parameter created in 10g.
That variable, while showing up in a few of the 11gR2 docs (eg: 11gR2 Readme), does not appear in the 'master list of environment variables' in Chapter 1 of Oracle® Database Administrator's Reference / 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux and UNIX-Based Operating Systems (Part Number E10839-04), nor in any of the doc's predecessors.

  • Oracle Startup/Shutdown with SQLPLUS and ORADIM in Windows...

I am a newbie to the Windows platform. SQLPLUS will not allow me to issue a STARTUP command. This is what I get when I attempt to SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE and subsequently issue a STARTUP MOUNT/NOMOUNT or any STARTUP command for that matter. The SHUTDOWN command works successfully but the subsequent startup fails with an ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor message.
    D:\>set ORACLE_SID=NMPC00
    D:\>set ORACLE_HOSTNAME=TAX-DEV-ORA-01
    D:\>set ORACLE_HOME=D:\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1
    D:\>sqlplus sys@NMPC00 as sysdba

    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORACLE instance shut down.
    SQL> startup mount
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    SQL>
When I look at the Windows service, it still reports 'Started' despite the fact that I shutdown the instance. What is the proper protocol for shutting down and starting up an Oracle instance in Windows. Do I have to coordinate these activities with the ORADIM -STARTUP / -SHUTDOWN commands?

I am also newbie to oracle and running into the similar problem when trying to start oracle database using windows command prompt and getting the below error:
Command prompt is being run as administrator on windows7 O/S
C:\ORACLE\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN>oradim -SHUTDOWN -SID O22BVGI -SHUTTYPE srvc, inst -SHUTMODE nornal
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
The reason behind this to do it is , I need a batch script for stopping and restarting the oracle database instance using a Pfile which will contain the initialization parameters.
    Please can someone help!
    sqlnet.ora is:
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, ONAMES, HOSTNAME)
    Kind Regards

  • ORACLE_HOSTNAME for existing database

We did a fresh install of oracle 10.2.0.4 database. The database is up and running fine.
Recently we decided that we will use virtual hostname and so we configured a new ethernet card and IP address.
The problem is we set ORACLE_HOSTNAME to the virtual hostname in the environment variable and started the database. Still the database is using the old hostname.
    SQL> select instance_name,host_name from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME HOST_NAME
    PRODDB server01
    SQL>
Added the IP address and the virtual hostname to the /etc/hosts file.
    $export ORACLE_HOSTNAME=prodserver
    Restarted the database.
    SQL> select instance_name,host_name from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME HOST_NAME
    PRODDB server01
    SQL>
After the restart host_name is still the actual hostname
How to overcome this situation ?

I am referring to the [Oracle Document|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b32002/pre_install.htm]
    Which says
    2.5.3 Installing on Multihomed Computers
You can install Oracle Database on a multihomed computer. A multihomed computer is associated with multiple IP addresses. This is typically achieved by having multiple network cards on the computer. Each IP address is associated with a host name. In addition, you can set up aliases for the host name. By default, Oracle Universal Installer uses the ORACLE_HOSTNAME environment variable setting to find the host name. If ORACLE_HOSTNAME is not set and you are installing on a computer that has multiple network cards, then Oracle Universal Installer determines the host name by using the first entry in the /etc/hosts file.
Clients must be able to access the computer either by using this host name or by using aliases for this host name. To verify this, ping the host name from the client computers using the short name (host name only) and the full name (host name and domain name). Both tests must be successful.

  • Install and Create Database Using ASM Restart

I'm performing a clean install of Oracle grid + database (11gR2) on Oracle Linux R5U6. Both installs seem to go just fine. The ASM processes start and run just fine. But, when I try to create a database, I get the following errors:
PRCR-1079: Failed to start resource ora.test.db
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
CRS-2674: Start of 'ora.test.db' on 'asm' failed
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
    0
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Jim

This is the problem with you
Now time to solve this problem, to make “user grid in secondary group dba”
    http://justinnovation.wordpress.com/category/database/ora/
    # usermod -G asmadmin,asmdba,asmoper,dba grid
Now you will notice the Privileges are changed
    # id grid
    uid=501(grid) gid=1000(oinstall) groups=1000(oinstall),1100(dba),1300(asmadmin),1400(asmdba),1500(asmoper)
    now try to runInstaller again!
    Good Luck!
