Oracle9i AS setup

hello
i was trying to setup the oracle9i AS infrastructure on a windows xp machine thats is in a workgroup and not a domain,
while installing i have got an error message saying that the computer name is not fully qualified and to edit the host file ...
the question is that the oracle9iAs can only be installed on a domain infrastructure and not on a workgroup?

I have installed Oracle9i and setup a database and everything is working fine in the English version, but when I install the same French version (oracle 9.0.1) alot of the features are in English. For those of you familiar with the help section of the http://localhost/isqlplus help on the top right hand side the help comes up in Enclish as oppose to English and when you go to change your password it go into that fine and every thing else is in French except the words "CHANGE PASSWORD" Under that it says everything else in French. Does anyone have any idea how to change this so that every thing even the help files come up in French or how/where to edit the code to change the thing manually to Change le mot de passe ???

some more information
I’ve just restarted the server with its full quota of 16GB of RAM and selected both boot.ini switches (/PAE and /3GB) at server startup. I then amended the dbblock_lru_latches parameter from 128 to 64. Before I even started the database I tried running ‘ipconfig /all’ at the command prompt with the following result:
D:\Oracle>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
An internal error occurred: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.
is it windows causing these issues?

Is my PHP + Oracle9i + Instant client setup ok ?

I have to developp a script in PHP for windows, using an Oracle 9i database.
Here's my setup :
Windows 2003 Server R2 (all patches applied)
PHP 5.2.0
Oracle 9i 9.2.0.1.1
Instant client 10g 10.2.0.2-20060508
Oracle9i was installed in C:\oracle\
Oracle Instant client extracted to C:\dev\oracle\instantclient_10_2
Here 's the PATH env variable (only oracle partis shown):
C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;C:\dev\php5.2;C:\dev\oracle\instantclient_10_2
I deleted the "C:\oracle\ora92\bin" from PATH env variable in order to
the Instant client to be used instead of. Is this a good solution ? Since now I have no more oracle tools available in command line without specifing full path.
PHP is configured to use php_oci8.dll of course. No problem with that.
I tryied to activate PDO but get an error message :
When I run PHP from command line, same error message :
Warning: PHP Startup: Invalid library (maybe not a PHP library)
'php_pdo_oci8.dll' in Unknown on line 0
Maybe it's a bug in PHP, I m not the first complaining about that as far as I know.
My main question remains : Is my configuration the best way to do ? Is there a way not to loose oracle9/bin from PATH ?

Did you install Instant Client from the Oracle Client CD or did you download Instant Client from http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html ?
Which version of Instant Client is this?

Can't setup oracle9i

I downloaded oracle9i enterprise/personal edition 3 disk and already unzip it. I double click at setup9i icon but not response. How can i setup?

Whenever someone answers you, then I'll know the answer, too! I know these things:
1. Create the 3 folder names exactly as listed: Disk1 withOUT any space (not Disk 1)
2. Copy the three CDs (or sets of files) onto your hard drive
3. Run setup from the hard drive's setup file.
4. Also be sure to turn off all antivirus and such. If you have the new XPSP2, you also have to allow the pop-ups (JavaScript 1.2).
Item #4 is where my problem is: There must be something YET to turn off, but I can't find it.

Unable to run setup.exe after downloading oracle9i Personal edition

I tried to download it again (it works) but then asked for the file iTunes.exe. I check the link to the file but he doesn' take. Uninstalling is also not possible!

I installed Oracle9i database, Oracle9i Developer Suite on my machine having W2k. After that I tried to install Oracle 9iAS. But auto installer is not starting after inserting CD. Then after I execute setup.txt but it is giving error after asking oracle home and directory path.

How to install Oracle9i Client on W2k3 Server

Hello,
Does anyone know the order to install the 9i client and which packages are actually needed to install it on Windows 2003 Server? I originally d-loaded the 9203win2k3.zip file but it turns out to be a patch. I could not find a server 2003 specific version so i down loaded 9201 zip file. I am guessing that I install that first and then patch. However there is no setup in the patch file and the readme speaks of running scripts to stop the databases?? All i really need is to have a 9i client on server 2003. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a tutorial for not so oracle fluent persons?

That should also work for Windows 2003 Server.

Spatial index creation fails in oracle9i but works in 8i

i'm using oracle9.0.1.2.0 and arcSDE on solaris 8
when i create a spatial feature table and index oracle gives me the foloowing error:

my oracle is setup following the esri and oracle guidelines:
all our tablespaces are with UNLIMITED extent and maxsize on
any files. All the tablespaces follow Oracle9i best practices
such as OFA, SAFE, and SAME including Temporary Tablespace.

Oracle9i Data Guard - Filtering for a Logical Standby DB?

Hello All
1) When using Oracle9i data guard with a logical standby database is it possible to "screen" the sql statements that are executed? For example if I don't want any "delete" commands to be replicated on the standby box can I filter them out?.
2) Are there any unlogged transactions that don't get "replicated"? Can I get a list of these commands/transactions?

I want to make db_name=boston, not keep it as the same as primary=chicago. Is this valid configuration?NO. DB_NAME must be the same ("chicago") at both sites. The Standby will be using a different DB_UNIQUE_NAME (e.g. "boston") and can be using a different Instance name / SID (e.g. "boston").
can I rename datafiles Yes. The database file names can be changed.
If I don't use primary DB backup. Instead, I copy all datafiles, redo_log files (no control files) to standbyWhat is the difference between the first sentence (a backup of the primary) and the second sentence (a copy of the primary) ? A Copy is a backup.
Are you intending to differentiate between an RMAN Backup and a User-Managed (aka "scripted") backup ?
Normally, for DataGuard, tou can use non-RMAN methods to copy the database but there's no value add in this.
You'd still have to setup DataGuard ! (and I wonder if you'd have complications setting up Active DataGuard).
But remember that you MUST create the Standby controlfile from the Primary and copy it over to your Standby -- particularly as you are planning to use DataGuard. This is not created by 'alter database backup controlfile to trace' , but by 'ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS 'filename''

How to properly setup an authentication using remote_login_passwordfile

I'm running Oracle9i for study purposes in a winXP OS
I set the value of the parameter remote_login_passwordfile to EXCLUSIVE
I tried connecting using the following credentials and it was, unexpectedly, successful:

You need to look into two things
1.connecting directly from the server
2.Connecting from the remote
1.If you are connecting local with the server and if the SQLNET.ora has an entry like SQLNET_AUTHENTICATION_SERVICEs=(NTS) the your OS autntication will take precedence
But when you connect from the client machine
REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORD file takeover and you cannot log without a password that was gebnerated during the creation of password file.
If you strictly want passwordfiel authentcation set the SQLNET_AUTHENTICATION_SERVICE=NONE in the sqlnet.ora

I have now successfully run the BI Beans tutorial, including deployment to external OC4J server.
Here is my setup:
Node1 (my PC):os=xp,jdeveloper9.0.2 production, BI Beans production as downloaded today.
Node2 (iAS): Os=w2k,installed Jdeveloper9.0.2 production and BI Beans as downloaded today. Running the OC4J (9.0.2.0.0) as non-embedded as described in install.html.
I am not using any other parts of Jdeveloper on this node
Node3 (DB): os=solaris2.8, Oracle9i (9.0.1.2.1) with patches as described in BI Beans installation instructions.
I am now able to develop,deploy,access in browser!

Explanation
LogMiner 는 8I 에서부터 새롭게 제공하는 기능으로 Oracle 8 이상의 Redo
log file 또는 Archive log file 분석을 위해 이용된다.
9I 에서는 기존 8I 에서 제공하던 기능을 모두 포함하고 그 외 새로운 점은
LogMiner 분석을 위해 dictionary 정보를 Flat file(output)로 생성이 가능하
였으나 9I 에서부터는 Flat file 과 함께 On line redo log 를 이용하여
dictionary 정보를 저장할 수 있게 되었고, Block corruption이 발생하였을
경우 해당 부분만 skip할 수 있는 기능이 추가되었다.
9I 에서의 New feature 를 정리하면 다음과 같다.
1. 9I New feature
1) DDL 지원 단, 9I 이상의 Redo/Archive log file만 분석 가능
     : V$LOGMNR_CONTENTS 의 OPERATION column에서 DDL 확인

Installing Oracle9i Database on Windows 2003 Cluster

Can anyone tell me if there are any additional steps needed to install an Oracle DB on a Windows 2003 cluster besides just running the installation and taking the defaults? I was hoping that the software would be cluster aware but it doesn't appear that it is.

I have gotten a little further with this. I have my 2 node active/passive windows cluster installed and working. I also install Oracle Fail Safe and have it setup and working. I then install my Oracle9i database on node 1 using a local disk for the home directory and the DB/logs files etc on shared disk (SAN back end). I then mirrored the install on my 2nd node using the same home name and location on a local disk. What other steps do I need to take to verify that my new Oracle database will function correctly should a node fail and fail over occur. I am not familiar with any of this at all and am just trying to get to a point where I have my DB installed and working correctly within the cluster before I hand this of to another person. I guess what I am saying is I need to make sure my new DB is cluster aware and will fail over correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
