Organizer 11: Tags-Keywords --OR-- People-Places-Events?

Hello.
I well understand the (new) features of Organizer 11.
1/ I must start working on 20.000 pictures and would like to know if it is better to ONLY use Tags/Keywords with Categories (eg. People>Family>Wife) to "classify" my pictures --OR-- to use People+Places+Events --together with-- Tags/Keywords.
2/ Any ideas where I could find lists of usual tags/keywords?
Have a nice day. Eric

1) I don't understand the distinction between your two choices, but in general the answer would be "do whatever works the best in your situation"
2) There are lists of tags available on the internet, some for free and some for a small fee, but again, what works best in your situation may be a list you yourself create.
As a side issue, you can always add or change or modify your keyword list at any point in the future if you decide you need something different than what you have already created. I have done that myself, when I started taking pictures, I didn't have a lot of railroad pictures, so I really only had one tag for it "Railroad". But as the years went by, I took a lot of railroad pictures, and I had to add more detail under "Railroad".

  • Moving tags from imported to People, Places & Events.

I have just started to trial PSE 13 and found out that when importing photos that have been tag into PSE 13 you cannot move any the tags into People, Places & Events. Have I missed something or has Adobe stuff this up big time. I used to be able to drag and drop in PSE 11 so why can I not do this here? I import a lot off photos that have tags on them already and I wish to put them where I want the tags.

    Hi,
This behavior is the same since PSE12. This is because, now we have different categories explicitly defined for People, Places and Events. Drag drop of tags from any of these main already defined categories <Keywords, People, Places and Events>to another is not possible now.
Now, if you want to try this workflow of yours, you can try creating People, Places and events sub categories within Keywords tag category and then you can drag drop your imported tags the way you want to organize them.
Please let me know if I failed to understand your problem.
    Thanks,

  • PSE 12 Organizer   Problem with , Media, People, Places, on top of Screen

Thanks for your help. On the top of the Organizer  in 12, it has tabs for Media, People, Places, Events. They all have stacks sorted by name. However only in the Events tab, does it show the photo of the first picture in the stack. The other Tabs don't show a photo of the first picture in the stack.  How can this be corrected?

Please double click a people stack and move the switcher "Faces|Photos" to Faces side. This switcher appears on the left corner just above the media grid.
Here if you can see some marked faces, right click >Assign an profile picture.
If generic faces are shown, you need to see individual images and name face rectangles in them as explained here-http://helpx.adobe.com/elements-organizer/using/adding-people.html
    Thanks

  • IPTC - Tags & Keywords

I am planning to switch from PhaseOne/MediaPro (MP) to Adobe PS13/LR. Before doing so I did some test, i.e. using PS13 I added places, people, events and ratings. I then looked at the image in PhotoMe and found the following:
    * People, Places and event are all added to Field = Keyword, Tag Name = Keywords
    * I could not find ratings in the list of IPTC fields
    So here are my questions:
    * Shouldn't "people" go under the field "Person Shown" in the IPTC Extensions?
    * Shouldn't places go into the fields "City", "Province/State", "Country", etc of Location Created in the IPTC Extensions?
    * Shouldn't events go under Event in the IPTC Extensions?
    * Where does ratings end up? I believe it should be under "Urgency" (depreciated, is there an alternative?) but can't find it anywhere.

    Sigurd den Haan:
Welcome to the iView Forum. Where are you importing from? Another application? Are you adding keywords in that other application? If not, then where?
No knowing the answers to those I will suggest that you do not use the auto-rotate in the camera. It has caused different problems in iPhoto, specifically the use of those images in other applications that do not read those auto-rotate tags.

  • Tags/keywords not recognized when importing photos

I am using Lightroom 1.3.1 and I am trying to set up a new catalog of all of my personal photos. I previously had used Adobe Photoshop Elements 5, then more recently Windows Live Photo Gallery to do all of my organization and tagging. Before making the jump to Lightroom, I wanted to get my photos organized before doing the initial import. So I organized them into folders by year/month/day. Then I imported them all in place into Lightroom. However, of about 4000 tagged photos Lightroom only imported the tags for about 1000 of them. If I take a photo with no keywords in Lightroom and look at it in Live Photo Gallery, with Microsoft's Photo Info tool, or using Photoshop's file info, I can see that tags. However, Lightroom doesn't show any keywords. With Photoshop file info I can see the keywords listed in the following places in the metadata: xap:Keywords, photoshop:keywords, MicrosoftPhoto:LastKeywordXMP, MicrosoftPhoto:LastKeywordIPTC, dc:subject. Looking at the metadata I can't see any difference between the photos that had their keywords imported and those that didn't. Where does Lightroom look for keywords? More importantly how can I get Lightroom to recognize the the keywords from all of these photos that I have already tagged? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the information. I am running Windows Vista. When I look at the image properties in explorer, I can see that 'tags' field and the tags are present as expected. Any metadata that was used Elements has been written to the files. I can see the tags in the files' metadata. I have already added the "Treat '/' as a keyword separator" in Lightroom. That is working fine for the keywords that it recognizes.
Previously my files just had the default names from the camera and they were put in folder according to the date I imported them from the camera. Before importing them into Lightroom I reorganized my photos by the date the pictures were taken. I used Downloader Pro to organize them in folder by Year->Month->yyyy-mm-dd using the capture date. The file names were also renamed by date and time like: 'yyyy-mm-dd hh'mm'ss.jpg'. All of my photos have the exact same folder/name structure. I can look into a single folder and some of images have their tags imported and others don't. The pictures were taken at the same time, with the same camera, and moved and processed together. In Vista's explorer the tags show up on on all of the photos, but in Lightroom only some of them will have tags. It is bazaar, in some folders all of the images get their tags imported, but in most folders, none of them get imported. Then in a few folders there will just be one or two of the images that have their tags imported.
Any other ideas about the problem, or ideas on how to troubleshoot would be greatly appreciated.

  • Importing existing GPS tags to PSE 12 places

    Good evening,
after making my first steps in the world of RAW-photography with lightroom, I wanted to add the ability to edit digital photos. After comparing my options, I decided to choose Elements 12.
As I already had some keyword-tags in Lightroom, I imported them to Elements - so far, so good. But what I did not find so far was the possibility to "import" my GPS-tagged metadata into the places-tags. Seemingly I have to retag them again, which is annoying, but would be a reasonable way for existing photos.
When going on a photo trip, I currently use a GPX-tracklog to easily add the necessary GPS-information via lightroom. Is there any way to do so in Elements 12?
I wonder what is your workflow when adding GPS data to your photos?
Thank you for sharing your ideas,
    all the best,
    Gilhin

    HI Jon,
thank you for getting back to me. This process refers to using PSE as an external editor. Unfortunately this is not what I am looking for.
What I like on the PSE Organizer is that it adds places in a hierarchic manner (Like Germany => Bavaria => Munich => Marienplatz) and that I can change the name of the last level. That is what I am missing in Lightroom. All my pictures are geotagged, so I do not want to retag them again.
Therefore I am either looking for a possibility that PSE recognizes the GPS data or that anyone recommends a Lightroom plugin that will do the same in Lightroom.
    Thank you for your ideas,
    kind regards,
    Connor

  • Bridge - Tags/Keywords

Why does cs3 bridge not import all the tags/keywords in my jpg files.  I can see all of the tags/keywords using windows explorer (win 7 64 bit), but about 2500 of 3000 don't have the tags/keywords in bridge. Does bridge have any limit on the number of keywords per file and or length of keywords?

Why does cs3 bridge not import all the tags/keywords in my jpg files.  I can see all of the tags/keywords using windows explorer (win 7 64 bit), but about 2500 of 3000 don't have the tags/keywords in bridge.
Bridge is primarily a file browser and reflects the files and the contents of their metadata. You can import a keyword list to the keyword tab and you can choose to add keywords from that list to your files. Then Bridge saves those data to the file IPTC data.
If Bridge does not show content that you can see in an other application then make sure the data is in the right place. Open a file in Photoshop and then use menu file / file info (also able to use in Bridge) and see if the keywords are in the keywords field in theIPTC section.
If so then in Bridge point to that file and with right mouse click choose 'purge cache from selection' and after the file has been recached check if the data shows.
If so go the menu tools / cache / purge cache for folder and this will let the content of the whole folder start recaching and refreshing itself.
Also keep in mind that Bridge CS3 can be acting very problematic and is know as the worst version ever
Does bridge have any limit on the number of keywords per file and or length of keywords?
Not to my knowledge, just tried to add a couple of hundreds (copying from the exported text file keyword list) and pasted directly in the metadata panel IPTC field keywords and they all showed without problems.

  • Is there a tagging/keyword mechanism in Mail (Mac)?

Is there a tagging/keyword mechanism in Mail (Mac)?  Right now, I am just meticulous about my organization structure with my current 'mailboxes' and 'smart mailboxes'.  In addition, I will sometimes export messages to finder and utilize it's more sophisticated file structure and keywords (soon to come tabs) to keep all my necessary items in order.
Just wonderin' if I have missed something in Mail as it is.  I love the program, but I just need a little more.
    Thanks in advance.

Are you using Tiger Server? Are the other mail systems using LDAP? If so, see here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=serveradmin/10.4/en/c7od21.html

  • Tags/Keywords : iPhoto iPhone / iPhoto Desktop

Can tags/keywords be transferred from iPhoto iOS to iPhoto Desktop? I just bought the iPhoto app for the iPhone and haven't been able to import the tags to import to the desktop version. Is there anyway that I can tag my pictures ON MY PHONE that allows me to import them to my desktop using smart albums???

No.  The two apps are different and independent from each other.
However, you may be able to export your photos out of your Mac's iPhoto library to a folder on the Desktop with the options to include keywords, titles, and other metadata, and the transfer that folder via iTunes to your iPhone.  The metadata might get read.  You can ask in the iPhoto for iOS forum if that workflow would work.

  • Can you make a Keyword Collection for entire event library?

    Hello all,
So you make an event, and you can make Keyword Collections for that particular event, such as "WS" or "Person 1" or "Indoors"... But...
What if those keywords apply to other events?
I am making video content for a particular company. I shoot stuff one day import as an event. The only content that I produce is for this company, so you can imagine there are going to be similar themes across mutable events...
As you know this is how it is organized >
    DRIVE
    >2012
    >Event
          >Keyword Collection
This is how I want to get organized>
    DRIVE
    Master Keyword Collection
    >2012
    >Event
         >Keyword Collection
    > Here is an example of how I think It should be
    DRIVE
    "All Interior Shots"
    >2012
      > Event
         >Interior Shots
So can you make a Keyword Collection for entire event library?
Can some one please explain if is this is possible? If not please update!

    Andy,
Yes you can but that feature only works if you are searching a single event (Pretty Cool/Useful), Creating a smart collection based on what you tick off in the dialogue box... You will get an error message if Searching the drive itself:
    LOL
    I did some playing around...
    I created a new event
Then I ran a search, with Keywords ticked off, Ticking off mutable Keyword Collections.
Then dragged the results into my new event.
This in effect created "saved search results" but Final Cut started copying clips to that event folder that was created on my external HD. I was hoping that It would generate alias files...
    I also...
    Created a new project
    Ran the Search with Keywords
Dragged all clips into the project..
This also in effect created  "saved search results" but not really what I was hoping :/

  • Blog tags/keywords

I would like to be able to add keywords or tags to my blog posts and then have a tag/keyword cloud on my site to make it easier for readers to find my posts according to topics. Is this possible? It seems that this is a very common feature on nearly every other blogging website that I have ever seen - but not iWeb.
    Thanks.

Keywords are placed in your text and will be picked up by the spiders when they crawl your site as long as you create, publish, enter and verify a sitemap.
You can easily add tags using iWeb SEO Tool. See this section for more details...

  • Why can't I invite people to events in Calendar app?

When I open my calendar app and click to add a new event, the "Invitees" field does not appear and I cannot invite people to events. The field DOES appear on my iPhone (which is setup with a separate Apple ID).
Does anyone know why this is happening? I have done countless searches to try to learn if there is a bug, but have not found anything.

    Figured it out.
Didn't have my calendar syncing with iCloud. Turning that on fixed the problem.

    Hello,
This particular eventlog is for the CPMCP module within the Application Server which only talks to other internal components within the Application Server, so it's not exactly the best eventlog to start out with and is typically only reviewed for complex internal issues which are typically bugs. Since this getting involved with the internal workings of MeetingPlace, there is no external documentation for interpreting this.
If you are going through the logs or an Information Capture of a particular incident, I would suggest first going through the VUI eventlog. Here you can ignore any lines with "State" or "Substate" since those are internal messagings, but this will give you a good idea of when a user calls in, which port they are on, the meeting they joined, and when they disconnected.
    For example:
    New call into MeetingPlace:
    08/17 09:54:55.83  P 1       In Call  : DID/DNIS 2085, ANI 3062 ============= (2)
    Outdial from MeetingPlace
    08/17 09:48:00.14  P 4095    Outdial  : UserID   3 RetCode 3107
              Dest +13076R Trans Dest
Meeting ID that was entered in:
    08/17 09:55:11.36  P 1       ConfStr  : 640603980
    Leaving conference:
    08/17 10:01:56.29  P 1       Action   : CONF_LEAVECONF
    User disconnecting:
    08/17 10:01:56.27  P 1      Input    : Far end disconnect
Also if you are familiar with SIP, you can review the SIP messages for specific calls in either the "CCA Sip Log" or "SIP B2BUA log" depending on your deployment. These logs tend to overwrite fairly quickly, so you should gather an Information Capture as soon as an issue occurs.
The Information Capture is the main set of logs for Cisco Technical Support to review. To collect the Information Capture, login to the web page of the Application Server and go to Services, Logs, and System Information Capture. Select the appropriate start and end times to capture the issue. This will create a zip file for you to save on your computer. This can be unzipped and you can click on the "index.html" file to see the list of log files.
If you need any further help with these or want further steps on troubleshooting a particular issue, open a TAC case and we will be able to these logs with you.
    Regards,
    Andrew

Can someone help me understand what happens on a file level with these tools
i understand that "tags" write a text to the actual file in windows.
how do the other elements work?

i understand that "tags" write a text to the actual file in windows.
This is not correct. Nothing is written to your photo files when you assign a tag (or any other item you mentioned).
All of the items you describe exist inside the PSE Organizer (which is a database). The information is contained inside this database. This enables you to record information about each photo, and then later to search for a photo, so if you have given a photo the tag "kids" and also the tag "beach", then later you can do a search for photos that have both tags to find this photo.
As a result of the database nature of PSE, you need to do all of your photo management inside of PSE (and not in Windows), because PSE contains information about where the file is located, and the name of the file. It does not contain the file. Thus, if you move the file, or rename it, PSE no longer can find it. (If you move or rename the file in PSE, then PSE will be able to find it).
You can, OPTIONALLY, write some of the metadata to the photo files if you so desire. Album information will never be written to the photo file. Select the desired files and then use File->Write Tags. Even if you do this, PSE uses its database for searching purposes, not the information written to the files.
