Orientation is broken

If you create a new Idea with a photo taken on an iOS device, everything will look fine in Ideas on the device, but if you upload it to Creative Cloud, it will probably have the drawing layer mis-oriented with respect to the image layer. Example here: http://www.behance.net/wip/205033/392567

We had noted this recently as well and am working to have it addressed - the image appears to be limited to Portrait representation but we are investigating.
Stay tuned -

  • Set Report Orientation VI Broken on Mac

    I am making a cross platform VI in Labview 7.0. It uses the Set Report Orientation.vi to make the page landscape. The VI works fine on the PC. On the Mac there is a corresponding Set Report Orientation.vi, that does nothing, however the VI comes up with errors (Wire has loose ends) When I try to edit the block diagram to fix it, it asks for a password. Where will I find this password?

    Hi Kirk,
    This is a known issue with the Set Report Orientation.vi on the Mac. According to notes written by R&D, the VI was not supposed to be included on the palette. The reasons were not indicated, but I have contacted the engineer regarding this issue and will try to get more information for you.
    Thanks again for contacting National Instruments and have a great day!

  • Upgraded to iOS 7.0.2 and now orientation lock broken

    Is anyone else having this problem? I'm stuck in landscape mode and every time in open or close an app the screen swivels around and back again. Frankly it is extremely annoying! It was working fine until I upgraded.

    I have an iPad 2 and also am experiencing the extremely annoying problem of every time I open an app the screen swivels to what it's not. If I am in portrait it switches to landscape, and vice versa. I have tried all solutions suggested here to no avail. I assume this is a bug & hope Apple is working on it. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.

  • How to get Started with Obj Oriented AS3? (Flash Help seems broken)

    OK I dont want to be the noob that doesn't read the manual
    and asks stupid questions, but I'm stuck here. It's been a LONG
    time since I had any real flash experience (Flash 5 in depth and a
    little Flash 8). But now my job has lead me back into some flash
    work & I'm basically starting from scratch. I'm trying to just
    get a simple SWF to load an external class & have the class
    retrun a value from a method.
    I define
    package
    public class Greeter
    public function sayHello():String
    var greeting:String;
    greeting = "Hello World!";
    return greeting;
    in an .as file (which is located in the same directory as my
    .fla) and then in frame 1 of my time line I have:
    var myGreeter:Greeter = new Greeter();
    mainText.text = myGreeter.sayHello("Bob");
    When I try & test the movie I get 2 errors:
    1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant:
    Greeter.

    CPruittCCB,
    > var myGreeter:Greeter = new Greeter();
    > mainText.text = myGreeter.sayHello("Bob");
    >
    > When I try & test the movie I get 2 errors:
    I'm only getting one, which is "Incorrect number of
    arguments. Expected
    no more than 0," and the reason for that is because the
    sayHello() method
    isn't set up to receive any parameters. If you change your
    existing ...
    public function sayHello():String
    ... to this ...
    public function sayHello(msg:String):String
    ... just as a for-instance, that error goes away. Have you
    saved both the
    FLA and the AS file? If you haven't saved your FLA yet, it
    won't know where
    to find your Greeter.as file (that is, the Greeter class),
    which would
    explain your "type not found" error.
    Check Edit > Preferences, ActionScript category, and
    click the
    ActionScript 3.0 Settings button to make sure your classpath
    setting has an
    entry with nothing but a dot (.) in it. That dot means "Look
    in the current
    folder" when Flash needs to start hunting for external
    classes. Otherwise,
    you'll have to use the import statement to let Flash know
    where that Greeter
    class is.
    Another thing to consider, if you're expecting to see the
    word "Bob" in
    the text field, is that you're not currently passing the
    incoming parameter
    back out of the method (because there is no incoming
    parameter). Something
    like this would do it:
    package {
    public class Greeter {
    public function sayHello(msg:String):String {
    var greeting:String;
    greeting = "Hello, " + msg;
    return greeting;

  • How to restore broken links after server migration in Indesign CS3???

    Hi All,
    I have used my google skills to no avail and everything I have read here has been a dead end for me. I can't be the only person in this situation, so hopefully someone can help!
    My marketing department has reached the storage limits of our shared network drive. Located on this drive is our (HUGE) image library which acts as a single central respository serving up our indesign links (read here: we don't package files - to conserve space). We have decided that in an effort to create a true archive and have more space for our image library we need to migrate the library to a new 16 terabit Drobo (yay!).
    The problem is that every INDD file that links to the current library will now suffer from broken links. We literally have hundreds of INDD files and thousands of links. The good news is...the file structure isn't changing at all! Just the server location is changing. Is there any way to to a batch update of the links that tells INDD to look for the exact same file path on a different drive?
    In short:
    current image library (old server): marketing/image library/photos/products/multiple product folders
    new image library (new server): drobo/image library/photos/products/multiple product folders
    I want to point InDesign to the new server and have it pick up the file path without having to navigate to each and every file individually. Voila!
    Is this even possible? Is there any 3rd party software to help? Other architechture solutions that might be suggested?
    Thanks so much for the help!
    Alex

    You can specify a platform-specific path name, or a path in a  platform-independent format known as universal resource identifier (URI)  notation, or Mac OS 9 path name (for Mac).
    For example any of the following notations are valid:
    Windows
    c:\dir\file (Windows path name)
    /c/dir/file (URI path name)
    //10.44.54.70/Test/images (uniform naming convention (UNC) path name of the form //servername/sharename)
    //Apple/Test/images
    \\10.44.54.70\Test\images (Windows path name)
    \\Apple\Test\images (Windows path name)
    where 10.44.54.70 IP  address of the server, Apple -- DNS name of the server, Test -- share name
    Mac
    The following examples assume that the startup volume is MacOSX, and that there is a mounted volume Remote.
    /dir/file (Mac OS X path name)
    /MacOSX/dir/file (URI path name)
    MacOSX:dir:file (Mac OS 9 path name)
    /Remote/dir/file (URI path name)
    Remote:dir:file (Mac OS 9 path name)
    Remote/dir/file (Mac OS X path name)
    You can just copy a part of the path in Links panel and paste it to the script's dialog. In CS4, make sure to choose "Copy Platform Style Path" in context menu.
    The case of the characters doesn’t matter: you can type both in upper and lowercase in the script's dialog. For example  — Test, test, TEST, TeSt — are all the same for the script.

  • Dock cable broken after only 1 month of use

    I use the dock cable to connect my ipod classic 80gb to the sony stereo in my car with the usb port.After 1 month of use the cable doesn't connect to the stereo anymore and say Usb not device and only if i put the cable in a strange position it works for sometime and than again usb not device , than it works and after a bit it doesn't work anymore.I try to connect to itunes but the problem is the same.The cable cost €19 and i don't want to buy another because surely after a month it will be broken again so i just want to know why this happen.Someone can give me an advice?

    Can you try eBay for the docking cables, since you sound like a cable destroyer.
    I think on eBay, the cables are less than €9 or if from some Oriental countries less €1 which maybe where your fragile cable comes from.

  • How to get a tree-oriented view of a pdf document's sections in Acrobat 8 Professional?

    Hi, I have a PDF that has a document outline (with table of contents etc.). This may be a stupid question, but in earlier versions of Acrobat Reader -- I used to be able to get a navigation panel that showed the sections in a tree-form that made it easy to jump to a given section. I now have the Acrobat 8 pro.. and when I read PDF's with it, I do NOT get this tree-oriented view.. but just a thumbnail or page oriented view. How can I get the other view?
    Thanks,
    -Sundar

    Well.. the contents page seems ok, and when I click on the lines in the contents page, Adobe takes me to the right spot. Others (w/ earlier versions of Acrobat) also are able to see the outine. I have to conclude that perhaps pro8 is just broken. (I guess I have to talk to someone to figure out how I can get my reader back.. because right now even the reader launches Acrobat Pro..). Sigh.

  • Photo orientation off in appletv

    Help please.  I have been using Aperture 3.3.  Downloaded some photos from a Sony Cybershot DSC-W200.  This camera is slightly broken, or glitching, because after I take a photo, it sometimes shows up sideways or upside down, even on the camera display!  Auto orientation is set to "on" in the camera.  So I know there is a problem here, but it still takes great pictures.  I can easily rotate the pictures after downloading to Aperture, and all looks good!  Until I just picked up an AppleTV3.  Now, when I share my Aperture library to the AppleTV, the pictures on the TV are sideways and upside down again, and don't appear as they do on Aperture!  How can I straighten this out??

    I tried your solution - went ot File Menu, Homesharing, Choose Photos to share with AppleTV, closed iTunes, re-opened.... then went back to TV and AppleTV and drilled down through the menus. It took awhile to find where the Photos are hidden in plain sight! I THINK it is going to work. I still don't see any indications that my Mac iTunes is seeing the TV, but the photos do appear to be trasferring. The Photos selection is buried under Music as a sub-tier after the rest of the list, Artists, Albums, etc. Right now, spinning wheel, I think because it is doing a first time 'load'.

  • Nikon D300 and D70 RAW support broken

    I am an Aperture 1.5 user that recently upgraded to 2.x due to my purchase of a D300. I was shooting a D70 before.
    I am just sort of getting my Aperture library back in shape (sold my G5 and moved completely to MBP until there is a Sub 2k machine that takes two external monitors and/or apple offers matte displays). I started importing some pictures from my D300 which were made with firmware 1.1. The first thing I noticed is that the autostack on import wasn't working. Moving the time domain slider over does nothing until I reach the far right hand side when it stacks the whole flash card full of files together.
    The other odd thing I noticed right off is that it does not auto-rotate shots done in portrait. After noticing that, I changed the import view to the "spreadsheet" format and all of the metadata was blank. Another side effect was that I imported some photos and had aperture place them on a network drive using the year/month of the pictures as the directory structure. This resulted in all of the shots going into a folder structure of 2000/1/ which is completely incorrect as the shots were taken last month and have a correct date/time stamp in the exif header in the files as well as on the actual files themselves.
    I though, perhaps I need to have the 1.10 firmware upgrade on my D300, so I applied that and shot some test pictures with the same result, autostack broken, autorotate broken, no metadata at import. I checked the picture post-import and the metadata seemed to all be there (F-stop, picture orientation, lens data, etc...). I though this might be a bug with the D300 format or using 12bit RAW+Jpeg Fine so I took a few shots with my trusty D70 in RAW and had the exact same issues.
    I finally gave up and took a series of shots with the D300 in Jpeg Fine. All of the above features worked perfectly this time. I repeated the test with the D70 Jpeg files which also worked perfectly.
    The issue only seems to present itself on import. RAW files that are already in my library seem to be fine.
    There is some horrible bug in the handling of Nikon raw files from at least two camera bodies. I looked around and there are some other threads on the discussion groups here citing inability to import and some other camera makes and models and I wanted to get a thread started about the core of these issues as I was able to cross-check with two bodies. I have access to a D80 and a D90 body as well to test with but didn't bother as the D70 support should be well baked at this point.
    Here are the numbers:
    Hardware: MBP 17" 2.4 "Santa Rosa" 4 gig ram
    OS: 10.5.5
    Aperture: 2.1.2
    RAW Support: 2.3 update
    Flash Media: Sandisk Ultra II and Extreme III 30mb/sec
    Flash Reader: Sandisk "14 in 1" OSX compatible (supposedly)
    D300 Firmware: 1.01 and 1.10 tested
    D300 image format: 12 bit RAW (.NEf) + Jpeg large/fine
    D70 Firmware: 2.0
    D70 image format: RAW (.NEF)
    So when can we expect a fix for this issue and will this require an export and re-import of all of the shots I have already imported?
    This is pretty serious as RAW file handling is the #1 feature of Aperture and Nikon is one of the top two brands of camera. This bug has broken multiple features in the software which should have set off red flags. This also broke support for an extremely old body. This is telling me that Apple has a QA problem in their test rig for Aperture.
    This is serious for me personally as this is a heavy use time of year for me and I'm not feeling good about this software. I'm a 1.0 user that upgraded so I have $400 into aperture at this point and I'm not certain it's worth it.
    Thanks

    mindedc wrote:
    Was your aperture a clean install or an upgrade like mine?
    Yes upgraded from 1.5.6 to 2.0 and now 2.1.2
    If an upgrade, did you move an old aperture library or did you export all of your pictures as projects and re-import them to a clean aperture library as I did?
    Library was upgraded when the Aperture opened it in V2.0 - no did not bother to do what you did.
    Did you purchase your Aperture 2.0 some time ago (when it first came out?) or in the last month as I did?
    When it first came out. If you purchased it last month, it should have most, if not all of the updates.
    Are you on PPC or Intel as I am?
    On Intel - in fact on MBP like you, just 15" instead of 17"
    Are you on a platform with a GPU or integrated graphics like I am (Shouldn't make a difference for this but...)?
    To be clear, MBP has a dedicated GPU and not integrated graphics like MB.
    Do you have the D300/D200 write something into the exif headers using the copyright or image comment as I do?
    No image comment but Copyright, new feature since firmware 1.1, on D300.
    Do you keep your machine meticulously clean or do you have lots of software installed like I do (xcode, office 2008, vmware, macports)?
    I try to keep it clean as much as possible. Meaning that I clean out temp and cache out and try to keep the system up to date. As for apps, yes, yes, Parallels instead, and no, respectively. Have lots of other sw installed.
    Do you have other pro apps like I do (final cut)?
    No final cut.
    Do you have iLife 08 installed like I do?
    Yes. Also iWork.
    Would you be willing to swap a raw image from your D300 with a raw image I have and try to cross-import into each others libraries to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is related to unique aperture installations (mine being a "bad" one) or that it is a setting/configuration issue on a per camera basis?
    Actually, this test does not do anything. I don't recall the exact thread but it is here in the Aperture Forum, that stated that if you use a card reader (which is what I do), then there are no issues importing D300 nef files. But if you hook up the camera direct, then the issues you have articulated exists.
    That might explain why some people are troubled by this and others are not.
    Btw, I have D70 as well and have no issue with the nef files from that camera as well.
    It seems to me that there is an issue. But there is also work around if you import via card reader. I realize one should be able to do whichever and not encounter any problems but I do believe it is not a major issue or deal breaker so to speak.
    Cheers

  • Portrait Orientation - Pagination / Layout Inspector "Header Height"?

    OK, I started playing with iBooks Author and I've managed to create my first book, with various images and framed text boxes in the page layout. Although this was easily achieved in just a few hours, I note I spent most of the time struggling to get an acceptable Portrait page layout. In the end I gave up and just ticked the "Disable portrait orientation" checkbox, unfortunatly making the book Landscape only.
    The issue is that I was wanting to define the specifc page layout and pagination in Portrait orientation, in the same way that I have done in Lanscape. Not unlike defining your Landscape / Portrait screen layout in developing an App.  The iBook I have ony requires a single page / screen per section.  But it appears that you cannot control the full page layout / pagination in Portrait mode, like you can in Landscape.
    I found the difference in the "Layout Inspector" when switching between Landscape & Portrait to be confusing.  In Portrait a new section comes up with "Header Height", which corresponds to the blue line that appears in the Portrait Book Outline.  I couldn't find any help on this or any clue how I could perhaps use this Portrait Header in trying to create an equivalent single screen page layout in Portrait mode. eg. It doesn't appear possible to either remove the Header altogether, or to use the header area as a full screen sized Portrait page (with effectively no body).  The main Landscape body "shared with protrait layout" text box seems to only want to position below the Header Height line.
    Has anyone had a similar experience with trying to control Portrait page layout, and has found a solution?  For now it looks like I'll need to stick with Landscape only.

    Thanks KT, but no, I'm not forcing a wide single page layout in Landscape.
    After again reviewing the sample "Life on Earth" book, I see that in Portrait orientation the whole book is effectively a continuous vertical scrolling (only) text, with pagination only occuring (being forced) between Chapters (not even between Sections).  Unlike in Landscape orientation, where pagination is forced for each individually defined screen / page, and scolling is horizontal only.
    Based on this, I believe my issue is that the metaphor Apple have used for Portrait Orientation is (in my view) not intuitive, nor consistent with other iPad / iBooks behaviour in Portrait orientation.
    For example, if I open a regular eBook in Portrait mode, I still navigate via horizontal page-by-page scrolling.  If I rotate to Landscape mode, I navigate via horizontal page-by-page scrolling.  Likewise, if I open a magazine App I get horizontal page-by-page scrolling in either orientation, just the layout is rearranged.  Even newspaper Apps I regularly use, which do have continuous vertical scrolling within a single article, still utilise horizontal page-by-page scrolling when moving between news articles (which I would equate to Sections).
    So I think the answer is that Portrait mode is poorly implemented / effectively broken, so "Disable portrait orientation" is the unfortunate correct answer for now.

  • Portrait Mode Lock / Orientation Sensor

    If anyone from Apple is reading this, I have a suggestion for improving the iPhone user interface.
    My wife and I are relatively new to our iPhones.  I frequently use the orientation sensor for photos, safari, email and other apps so that I can switch the display from landscape to portrait mode by tilting the phone to the appropriate orientation.  My wife saw me doing this and noted that her iPhone, identical to mine (4s) doesn't do that, and indeed, on examining it, it didn't.  I carefully went through the Settings dialog and the Settings|General dialog and any promising looking page below these and found nothing.  I assumed that the orientation sensor was broken, and we called up Verizon, from whom we bought our phones.
    The (very helpful!) tech person at our local Verizon store had to look this one up, and it took him some time, but he finally located a software switch, accessible by double-tapping the home button - a "Portrait Mode Lock".
    This is an OK location for such a control, along with a general volume control, but this switch should also be available from the Settings menu, along with brightness and other hardware-specific switches.  This is, after all a "hardware setting" and the Settings page is the logical place to look for it.  I would strongly suggest that whether or not this switch is left on the Phone Favorites line, it should be available from somewhere in the Settings page heirarchy.

    No one from Apple is reading this forum, its just a user forum like you and I.

  • Photo orientation when sending via email

    When I email photos they are displayed in landscape orientation when viewed on the computer but are properly displayed when viewed on the iPhone. Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

    Thanks for the reply. If I take pictures in landscape mode with the home key to the right the pictures are displayed in the correct orientation when emailed. However, Apple needs to address the issue and fix it in the next update. This was only an issue post 4.1 update. Thank you again for your reply.
    If you read the entire thread you will find that it is not an Apple issue, it is simply the fact that Apple finally joined the rest of the 'good' camera makers (Canon, Nikon) in using the EXIF orientation flag. Use of this flag allows faster picture-to-picture times because the Camera/CPU doesn't have to rotate the image, all it has to do is write a flag in the EXIF data.
    I really doubt if Apple will 'fix' something that isn't broken so it is up to the third party image support software to come into modern times and support the EXIF orientation flag.

  • Object oriented programming on PXI-System

    Greetings,
    i've developed some object-oriented LV classes, wich i've succesfully tested on my desktop pc. The next step would have been to test them on a PXI-controller. However, the LV 8.20 methods of object oriented programming seam to be incompatible to PXI-systems.
    All i'm getting is an broken arrow with an error message like that
    HardwareIOAnalog.lv.class:setTimingNP.vi
    Frontpanel-Anschluss 'HardwareIOAnalog in': Der Typ wird für das aktuelle Ziel nicht unterstützt (means: Type not supported by current target)
    Does that mean that object-oriented design is not supported in general by PXI, or is it depending on the type of the PXI-System. Is there an easy way around, or do i have to re-program all my classes to conventional (Sub)VIs?
    Help appriciated! ;-)

    Okay, thanks. Meanwhile I reprogramed the whole thing and set OOP aside (at least on the PXI-Target). It's a pity to loose some advantages of OOP, but it brougth me some interesting new programing techniques i could transfer to non OOP stuff.

  • Broken lock switch on new iPad air

    Has anyone else experienced problems with the lock switch that controls the landscape and portrait orientation on the iPad air?  Bought 128 gig. New iPad air and the switch broke after a few days.  To make it worse I took it to the Genius Bar and they verified it was broken and have been waiting two days for a replacement.  My husband bought one too and his has been fine.  Based on the price, I'm a little frustrated with the quality issue but maybe it is an isolated case.

    I don't see many complaints here or online so probably isolated. Besides, it sounds like the issue is already resolved since they are giving you a new iPad.
