If you've turned VoiceOver on then see if triple-clicking the home button turns it off, and then change what Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home is set to.
Otherwise, via 'the touch to select double-tap to activate' process you need to go into Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver and turn it off

So select Configure Universal Access at the bottom of the Summary tab and set Seeing to Neither

From where are you launching Mail? The only place, unless I've missed or forgotten something, you can launch an application with a single click is from the Dock. Is this what you're doing, or are you attempting to launch Mail from the Applications folder?

As of yesterday 3/1/2015 T'bird stopped reading mail rationally on ONE of my two Windows 7 PC's and when aksed to check for new email retrieves the SAME message

no matter how many times I ask T'bird to check for new mail I get back ANOTHER copy of the same message dated 7:28am and NO MAIL received after that reaches my INBOX. On my other PC running Windows 7 only ONE copy of the 7:28am transmission arrives as does all subsequent email sent to me at this address... both PC's are protected by Avast anti-virus software. Turning the rogue PC off and on did not help nor did uploading and installing an updated version of T'bird.

Are the setup the same? same accounts, same folders, same messages, same filters same add-ons?
If that the case make a copy of the good profile and replace the bad one with that.

In mail, bottom of screen used to show whatever message was higlighted, now i have to double click

in mail, my inbox screen was split, with the messages in the top portion ( from: subject: date received: mailbox) & the info from the highlighted mesage in the bottom portion.
Currently I've "lost" the split screen and must double clikc the message which then opens a new window to read, forward etc.

once I posted this question, I looked to the right of the support screen & saw the MORE LIKE THIS box with suggestions of like questions.
"go to the bottom of the mail window, you should see a line, at the middle of this line you should see a dot, drag that drop to about the middle of the window and drop it, you will then have the preview pane for previewing emails at your disposal. move that line anywhere you want depending on how you would like the layout to appear.

I was typing a long Yahoo email response , and got a Firefox crash notice . 38 minutes of my typing was lost. How can I get back that 38 minutes?

Mozilla crashed presumably because my AVG PC tuneup utility wanted to come online. Mozilla has been "crashing' much more frequently now, but would be restorable to what I was doing in the past. This has really upset me. Yahoo mail typically saves what I've typed in a Draft folder automatically, but not now. It saved my typing as of 10:19AM, and the system crashed at 10:57. I don't see where Yahoo even lets you complain about a specific issue. Can you shed some light on this issue?

When trying to opdate some of my apps I get the message that my account is not in the UK but a French account. I have just been to London and I have not asked for an UK account but how do I get back to my French account ? I have tried to download a new app from Apple France but it did'nt wotk. I did'nt get it.

Do I still have to double-click a clip to see it's date and time?

iMovie 4 and earler, when you clicked on a clip in the timeline, the time and date would show up right there in the grey area. Then in iMovie 5, that is gone. Now I have to double-click every single clip to see the same info. This has made me very angry, as I waste a ton of time double clicking and closing windows. Why on earth is that gone? Anyway, I decided to save the $80 on version 6...unless they brought back this feature. Can anyone let me know if it's back?

I, too. think this embedded timecode info should be shown in the main window like in iMovie 4 so that the user can easily see the date of each clip.
Notice that the displayed time is the value of the very first frame of the underlying media clip. I.e. if you split the clip at the playhead, all the splitted clips still point to the same time.
iMovie 2.1.2 did this right by always showing the correct time even with splitted media clips.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
Envelope Index
ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

I have gone to the window pop-down to 'previous recipients' and deleted that addressee as well as all the email addresses it is assigning to that name. I have also deleted the account entirely from my address book. I have have run repair permissions and also full defrag in iDefrag. Still the problem persists. Any suggestions?

I noticed you posted this problem quite a while ago and wondered if you managed to have it fixed in an alternative way then posting here. It is too bad no one has posted a solution here. I have a similar problem and if you have had yours solved since this occurance how you accomplished it may help me with mine. I am interested to know what you have done about yours.

How do you close apps you hve looked at with the new software update?? You used to have to double click the home button and the apps would come up to delete bu that doesn't happen anymore.

The apps in the multitaskbar should appear like pages on the whole display. To close them, just swipe from the bottom to the top. you can select single apps for closing, when you swipe them like you would swipe your homescreens.

You were already provided the answer. If you do not have a backup of the phone while the photos were on the phone, they are gone. When you restore your phone from an old backup, anything that has been saved to the phone since that backup is deleted. Sorry.

On the bottom bar of the window (on the left iPhoto 11, on the right in other versions) note the slider. Drag it left.
