Orion i/o test on Ramsan

hi all,
hope this is the right forum for this.
I've installed orion on rhel 6 and would like to test it on ramsan drive.
there is fresh rhel install without dbms.
first I tested it on ssd:
cat orion1.lun
/dev/sda
./orion_linux_x86-64 -run advanced -testname orion1 -num_disks 1 -write 0 -simulate concat -matrix detailed
it worked
afterwards I tested on ramsan:
cat orion1.lun
/dev/rsXX0

and it gives me this error:

You may have run into Bug 9104898: ORION FAILS WITH ORA-27061: WAITING FOR ASYNC I/OS FAILED
BUG 9104898 mentions that version 11.1.0.0 is working
You did not mention which orion version you are running. The orion tool is part of the Oracle Database 11gR2 installation. I suggest to try the latest version that ship with the Database installation.

    That is an observation that I have made myself.
    Take the output from 2 server tests using the same test set

    Server A MBPS 238, IOS, 13220, latency 0.75
    Server B MPBS 228, IOPS 2524, latency 3.71
    Server A putting the same MBPS through but achiveing a 5 times better IOPS throughput in about a quarter of the response time

  • Rwcli60 terminate with errors

    Hi reports gurus,
    When run rwcli60 like this:

    i receive the following errors:
    REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
    REP-0110: Unable to open file '/export/home1/orion/mod/rpt60/test.rdf'.
    REP-1070: Error while opening or saving a document.
    REP-0110: Unable to open file '/export/home1/orion/mod/rpt60/test.rdf'.
    I think that it isn't a problem of REPORT_PATH, because the REPORT_PATH variable contain already directory of test.rdf file.
    It seem strange for me. Any idea plz help.
    NB: I'm using reports 6i on sun solaris 9.Thx

    I don't that it's a problem of ORACLE_HOME.
    Can somone already receive this error and fix it.
    PLZ show me the way to fix this problem, it's very important.

  • Benchmarking problem ORiON solaris 10 - non test error occured

    Hi,
    I am running a whole bunch of ORION jobs in sequence against raw LUNs on an EMC storage using Solaris 10.
    This to identify the performance at different read/write percentage and random/sequential IO patterns.
    Once in a while, in the middle of testing the following appears :
    Non test error occurred
    Orion exiting
    After which the test aborts.
    I am trying to investigate the cause for this error, the DMESG and /var/adm/messages left turned up nothing however.
    The strange thing is that the next test using the same amount of LUNs but only a difference in random or sequential pattern (or read/write percentage) works just fine.
    Does anybody have any reference to what are possible causes of "non test error"

  • Orion test returned :storax_aiowait: IO returned an error 27061

    I'm using orion version 11.1.0.7.0 on Linux Centos 5.2 distribution with 2.6.24.1 kernel. Get same error when writing to multiple raw or mounted devices. Thought the problem was due to different size luns but same error occurs using multiple luns of identical size but problem also occurs when testing a single device. Insights / solutions are appreciated.

  • Orion test problem

    Hi,
    We ara trying to test data storage system (DSS cache is 16Gb) with Orion (ver. 11.1.0.7.0)
    OS: RHEL 5.1
    Command: -run advanced -testname mtest -num_disks 36 -simulate raid0 -write 0 -type seq -matrix basic -cache_size 16386 –verbose
    At the beginning of test and before each test with Large not equal to 0 there is a message like:
    Warming read cache
    rwbase_run_test: rwbase_reap_req failed
    rwbase_run_process: rwbase_run_test failed
    rwbase_rwluns: rwbase_run_process failed
    orion_warm_cache: Warming cache failed. Continuing
    Сorrespondingly, test results are not precise, as we think.
    What can be done to fix situation and avoid cache warming fail?

    You should report the problem on the RHEL support forums, or raise a service request with Redhat. You should have the proper RHEL entitlements when using RHEL as the o/s for your database platform (does not make sense not to have it), in which case it is fairly easy to log a problem like this with support.
    If you were using OEL (Oracle Enterprise Linux) and has basic support (or greater), you can do likewise via Metalink (aka My Oracle Support ).

  • Orion Test performance

    Hi,
    I am trying to use ORION to test performance on a new NAS filer ( Netapp FAS3040). We are using NFS. I want to make sure that orion is not using file system caching, but I cant clearly determine that from the 'strace' I am doing do the process and childs. Has anyone experience on that? Do you know if Orion is using O_DIRECT writes/reads?. I am running on linux RHE4 x86_64.

    I meant the os caching. Using libaio.so one can use asynchronous IO operations against the storage. Using O_DIRECT once you open the file you avoid operating system caching. The same effect that if you would have a raw device.
    Certainly I cant avoid caching on the NAS, but I want to avoid the one on the operating system. You achieve that using DIRECTIO on the database level (some parameter in the init.ora).
    In any case I had just a deeper look to the orion's strace and I think sadly Orion doesnt use this feature. Which is really a pity.

  • Orion Disk I/O test on Windows 2003 x64

    Anyone know how to get Orion to work on Windows 2003 64bit? We started using it to benchmark server configurations. The install works fine but when ran, it just returns without error and does not generate any trace files.

    Thank you so much for your help ruwin  I also kept getting the "Disk I/O error". It only started happening tonight. I had read other things to do - tick "show hidden files, folders, and drives" which I already had ticked. I uninstalled and reinstalled skype. This also did not work. Luckily I found your comment, and it worked! I tried deleting the DbTemp folder, but when I logged into skype it still came up with the error. So I uninstalled my version again, and installed the older version like you said. So thanks heaps, I now have it working again on my laptop. I guess it was just the update, as I had the 6.9 something version on it. I knew it wasn't a problem with my actual "Skype", as it still worked on my iphone. So I figured it had to be a problem with the laptop version. You just saved me a visit to the computer shop  Thanks again!

  • Can not parse the xml in orion server.

    Hi, can anyone help me on this.
    I have some configuration file which should be parsed when start the server. It works fine in tomcat , JRun, and some other server, now when I test it using the orion server, It throws out the
    org.apache.commons.digester.xmlrules.XmlLoadException: Relative URI "digester-rules.dtd"; can not be resolved without a document URI.
    I put the dtd and xml together in web-root and specify the location using

    can anyone tell me how to resolve this.

  • Fatal error while running Test JSP in Jdeveloper

    Hi,
    After performing initial jdeveloper set ups when I run the test JSP i get following error
    It prompts about Port conflict. Upon clicking OK I get following error
    Fatal Error: Unable to write to the transaction log (/E:/p4045639_11i_generic/jdevhome/jdev/system9.0.3.5.1312/oc4j-config/log/transaction.state), possible reasons for this are that Orion lacks permission to write to the file, or that another instance of the server is already running with this configuration (most common): Unable to alter transaction log Process exited with exit code 1.
    Any suggestion how to solve it?

    JDeveloper 9.0.2 is limited in this area unfortunately. For the use case you are describing, there are two work-arounds:
    1) Use an Ant build file (or any other script) as you mentioned.
    2) Do your testing in the embedded OC4J server instead of an external OC4J server. You should then be able to make manual changes to the orion-application.xml file used by the embedded server -- it's in the Workspace directory and has a name like "Workspace1-oc4j-app.xml".

For some time, we've debated internally on the JDev team whether that kind of feature separation across Oracle products makes sense. It's clear that developers like you need to perform some administration tasks in the course of testing a production app, so we focused on allowing that for JDeveloper's integrated OC4J server ("embedded OC4J") and left the administration of an external OC4J server to OEM.
    For future JDeveloper releases, we will probably have an increasing level of direct support for OC4J administration, but to what extent we will pursue that is still in discussion.
    For 9.0.3, I've filed bug 2392697 to track the issue you are reporting (with reference to this OTN thread) to make sure that it is resolved properly for the 9.0.3 release.

  • Has Anyone Gotten Oracle ORION on Sparc 10 Working?

    Hi,
    I was interested in running Oracle ORION on Solaris 10 (Sparc 64 bit). I downloaded the necessary tar.gz from the Oracle web site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/orion/index.html) and extracted it and made it executable (and renamed it to orion although this isn't necessary). When I try to run it with even the simplist test after creating test1.lun with the necessary devices:
    ./orion -run simple -testname test1 -num_disks 2
    I got the following error:
    "Parse error: View help screen using orion -help."
    I checked the parameters and recopied them several times and I'm 100% sure that they are correct. I used ldd to make sure that all the libraries were available and they are. I then decided to use truss (kind of like strace for Linux users) to see what's happening. I find the Oracle binary looking for strange libraries that aren't mentioned anywhere. For example, it's looking for libociicus.so as well a bunch of other libraries, even though this wasn't mentioned in the Orion User's Manual. I hunted down the necessary 'additional' libraries and found them in the Oracle 10G Install Client, which I downloaded from http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html (a nice 38 MB download). I then set up LD_LIBRARY_PATH and now truss shows me the orion binary looking for oracore/mesg/lrmus.msb. Now why is ORION looking for this? I found the necessary file and copied it to the location that orion was looking for and thought that that would solve my problem, but it's still giving me the same error. Any ideas? Has anyone gotten ORION running under Solaris 10 (on SPARC or even x86)? I added the truss output below in case that helps. Thanks for your help.

  • Orion-ejb-jar works in oc4j, but seemingly ignored while running in jdev

    I'm using OC4J 9.0.2.0 and JDeveloper 9.0.2.
    I have a set of entity classes. I'm trying to map the entity name to a different table name, and map the field names to different column names.
    I have an ejb-jar.xml that sets the ejb-name, and I have an orion-ejb-jar.xml that uses the ejb-name, specifies a "table-name", and uses "cmp-field-mapping" elements. The "table-name" and "cmp-field-mapping" elements do what I said, using a table name different from the ejb name, and db column names different from the field names.
    When I build and deploy this in standalone OC4J, it works fine. It creates the exact table and column names that I specified.
    Now, how the heck do I get this to work in JDeveloper 9.0.2? Is this impossible as of this version? I need to know this.
    In JDeveloper, I can edit the orion-ejb-jar.xml file, and I can do the "Edit Settings" option, and that all looks correct, but when I finally run the embedded OC4J, it creates the wrong tables with the wrong attributes.

    I tried a simple test case and it seems to work fine
    I create a entity bean by name "foo" with 2 fields "col1" (CMP PK) and "col2" (CMP field)
    Select orion-ejb-jar.xml in project and right-click on it and choose settings
    Select foo in the upper left hand items
    Added table name on the right hand side "deployfoo"
    Select CMP Field Mappings on the lower left hand side
    Select col1 and in the persistence name add "firstcolumn"
    Seelct col2 and in the persistence namd add "secondcolumn"
    When I run the bean the table is created with the above name and columns

  • JDeveloper / OC4J rewriting my orion-ejb-jar.xml

    Im having a play around with OC4J and CMP entity beans and struts at the moment learning some stuff for a new job, so ive started to write a little test app to get used to things.
    Ive created a CMP entity - CustomerEntityEJB, manually defined the tables etc wrote and built it using JDeveloper 10.
    Ive created all the necessary classes and descriptors in JDeveloper and the bean compiles and deploys fine, however no matter what i do, the table attribute of the <entity-deployment> elemnt is ALWAYS removed from the orion-ejb-jar.xml file before its deployed and i have no idea why.

    As you can see, the orion-ejb-jar.xml that been deployed on the server has had extra attributes defined in it (like concrete-bean-class) which makessense - its adding in the bits i didnt to get th bean to deploy - however the table attribue is just removed, meaning my bean cant find the table - hence my app not working.
    i just dont know how to stop this and would be extremely grateful if someone could give me a clue how to get my bean up and working properly as this is driving me insane.

    sorted - the <persistence-manager name="toplink"/> element was automatically generated by JDeveloper and put in my orion-ejb-jar.xml appears to be un necessary and seemed to be breaking eveything - as soon as i removed it, the bean seemed to deploy ok and pick up the table name =]
    as a bit of an aside does anyone know why it was automatically put there in the first place if it breaks things?
