OS 10.3.9: time to go Quicktime Pro?

Hi,
I'm running Mac OS 10.3.9 and I'm starting to get the itch to go QT Pro.
Also starting to wonder how much longer QT Pro will be available for 10.3.9, as
10.2.x is no longer supported.
Anyway, I've been studying a bit about QT Pro and I have some questions..
1. Can QT Pro be used by another account user on the same Mac?
2. Does QT Pro work with larger movie files than iMovie, and does it work better
than iMovie?
3. Uploading movies to a blog. Will QT Pro 7 be supported for some time to come yet?
4. How much longer do you think I have to get QT Pro for Panther? How much longer
will Apple support QT Pro as an option for OS 10.3.9?
5. Is it worth it? ie. Will it be easy to use and a valuable tool for editing video movies from my camera and uploading them too?
In other words, please give me a good earful, I'm very interested and I'm hoping
time isn't too short for when I make my final decision to get it.
 Cheers!

1. Yes
2. I have no idea. I use Final Cut Pro.
3. Yes
4. Oh, for awhile.
5. Worth it , yes. As for video camera capability. You'll have to do that research on your own. There are so many camera's out the on the market. And there are a few formats that supported supported by Quicktime. Camera that use a dvd for sorage for one thing. Tape DV is you best bet. Quicktime supports DV.
And here is a number six for you:
6. The Pro key is the same for Panther, Tiger and Leopard. Meaning, if you upgrade your OSX to another version. You just move the Pro key from to the other OS. Just type it in...
You won't have to buy a new key until Qt 8 comes out. And that will be sometime from now before that is released, my opinion.
I've been using Quicktime since version 2. The Pro came out with version 3. The Pro versions from 3-7 stopped being free. I think version 4 was free....I'm rambling...Yes it worth it!

i have quicktime 7 and i bought final cut pro hd,it came with quicktime pro and its serial #, and code,im tryng to download or upgrade to qt pro to convert my home movies to put in my ipod, how do i do it

You can confirm your "Pro" status by opening the QuickTime Preference Pane. Click the "Register" tab and be sure it says QuickTime 7 Pro under your registration serial.
If the Registration fields are blank you need to re-install FCP. It should automatically update your QT registration. I don't think (like previous version of Final Cut) it ships with a "printed" serial number.

  • In stalling product key for Quicktime pro

I had quicktime player. I purchased Quick time pro this afternoon. I have a PC with Windows 7. I cannot find where to use the product key to get from quick time player to quicktime pro.
    TLM

It is the number that Apple sent me yesterday (product key number) when I purchased Quick time Pro.
Okay ... it'll be your name then. The name you enter has to be precisely the same as the one in the email, right down to any honorifics. If there's a Mr in there, you need to enter the Mr ... if there's a full stop after the Mr. you can't just enter Mr (and so on).
Try cutting and pasting the name in the email into the field in the Registration tab. Does the Key register properly now?

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

  • QuickTime Pro - I am trying to find a way to retrieve my Quick Time Pro code and re-register it but, because I bought it more than 180 days ago, I cannot find the code anywhere, or any way to get an answer from Apple's website.

I have been going round in circles, trying to resolve this
I bought the MPEG2 component from the Apple UK store on 4th July 2010. I still have the email and the order number but they are no use to me because it is more than 180 days since I ordered this from them.
My operating system got corrupted and I had to do a clean install, then a return of the relevant files, folders and applications from my Time Machine. With that should have been my MPEG2 component for QuickTime Pro but it refuses to register.
I need it to convert my videos taken on my older video camera, which is a Sony, using mpeg2. I cannot look at any of these videos any more, which is deeply irritating. Still lots of editing to do.
I think it is a bit off if I have to buy it all over again
    Any ideas?

The registration cade is contained in the email Apple sent you on purchasing.

  • Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10 ?

I have just migrated from iMac5 (2.16 GHz) Mac OS 10.4.11 Quicktime 7.6.4 to a new imac 3.06 Mac OS 10.6.2 Quicktime 10.0.
Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ? (There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums). All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible ?
Or am I missing something ?

Some of my quicktime files play ok but others prompt me to download quicktime version 7. Why do I need to do this ?
Because your system thinks you are missing specific codecs required for the playback of certain compression formats. In some cases this may be an installation problem in which the codec was "lost" or "orphaned" during the update process. In others it may be a need to update the component to work properly under the dual QT X/7 framework installed under the Snow Leopard OS. You need to check the Inspector/Finder Info or similar window to determine what specific codec is causing the problem and then re-install or update that specific codec/component/package.
(There seem to be a lot of problems with this looking at the forums).
Most of the problems are "self-inflicted" by individuals who, rather than studying the problem symptoms, analyzing them to determine their cause, and then fixing the problems, elect to immediately delete and re-install software -- often attempting to mix components from different operating systems and/or update versions of the software in their haste.
All the files play on the old mac. Why isn't Quicktime forward compatible or why is there no import facility so that you can make your old files compatible?
I am running both Leopard and Snow Leopard variations of QT v7.6.6 and all of my "old" files have remained compatible -- to include MPEG-2 video and a limited number of third-party supported compression formats. Since my configurations continue to work properly, my first guess is that you have an unresolved configuration problem or inability for your QT X 64-bit routines to communicate/switch properly with the 32-bit routines as required for your content.
Why do I need Quick time 7 and Quicktime 10?
Technically, you probably don't. However, as an old QT 7 Pro user who likes many of the QT 7 Player controls/options/features better than QT X's new but more basic features, I maintain both in active service and tend to use QT 7 as the default player of most of my work flows. Still, this is up to the individual. I am in no hurry to rush the changeover from an older but still more reliable QT technology to a more modern, but as yet, less mature and well tested "new" QT technology. In short, I feel it best to make the most of both dispensations during the development of this "new" version of QT.

  • I can not update Quick Time.  I get the message "a connection with the server could not be established"  I AM connected to the internet.  I have purchased QuickTime pro but can not get it uploaded.  Help.

I have purchased Quick Time Pro and received my key.  I am told to go to QuickTime settings to update and I do not have Quick Time in my control panel.
When I bring up QuickTime and click Help to Update I am told that a connection to the server could not be made due to either the server being down or my computer not having an internet connection.  I am connected to the internet so I know that is not the problem.
How do I update my Quick Time player from 7.7.2 to QuickTime Pro that I have purchased?

Launch the QuickTime Player and go "Edit > Preferences > Register", as per the following screenshot:
... that should get you through to the Register Tab in your QuickTime Control Panel.

Try, in preferences, resetting 64 bit to 32 bits.  Should work fine.  the older vidoes, etc will not work with 64 bit.  Had the same problem/scare.  Let us know if this helps and works!

  • PC-based Windows 7 QuickTime Pro and time-lapse functionality

    Hello!
I'm trying to create timelapses with Apple QuickTime. I managed to do this easily 2 years ago after I paid $30 to enable QuickTime Pro.
However, currently by following exactly the same procedure (as below) it no longer works :
QT File> Open Image Sequence > Select first image> Set frame rate > click Open
I ensure there are no other files/folders present in the source folder.
QT only creates a .MOV file containing the first image (I cannot enable a multiple file select).
I have even tried this procedure on the exact same set of 9 x 700KB jpg photos, I used for the preliminary test 2 years ago. So now, 2 years later I want to compile them all for online publication...
During my attempts to resolve this I uninstalled QT 7 and reinstalled the latest download from Apple [the About info gives: QuickTime Player (PRO in the logo) Version 7.7.3 (1680.64)]. I reused my old registration key, which enabled the initially greyed out menu options. But no luck, no timelapse...
I see there are similar messages seeking support for this type of query, but they are quite old, or even unresolved. I do not have Snow Leopard or Lion.
Hoping I can very soon continue to use this function otherwise I have wasted $30 and a lot of time.
    Thanks for your help. Cheers!

Is the problem limited to a specific file that you're exporting?

  • Quicktime Pro Video Recording Times Out

When I use the new Quicktime Pro video record feature, it times out after approx. 15 minutes.
    Anyway to extend this?
    Thanks!
    Bill

I haven't seen a time out like that, but perhaps it's related to reaching a 2 GB file size. You might try later QuickTime, or different compression settings to keep the file smaller.

Quicktime Pro will do full screen streaming videos that are compatible with Quicktime installed Codecs. If the video of the Olympics on the website has a specific URL to go straight to the video, then yes, you can call upon it with Quicktime Pro's player and then watch it fullscreen.
If the video of the Olympics was embedded such a way that you can't find the direct link to the video, then the limitation is how the webpage is designed. Thanks to Flip4Mac, there is now also a Windows Media codec you can install for Quicktime as well:
    http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm
Although some video software like Elgato's EyeTV don't work with it yet. If you are using Elgato's software, don't download it, and rather download Windows Media Player for Mac OS X:
    http://tinyurl.com/26pxg
if the video is in Windows Media.
If the video is in Realplayer, click on the Realplayer Free button on the upper right corner of:
    http://www.real.com/player/?src=realaudio
You can enter a dummy address and password if you don't want Real's offers.
If it is still a question of not being able to determine the true link to the video, try using different Mac web browsers to see what result you get:

  • Downgrade Quicktime Pro using Time Machine?

Is it possible to downgrade Quicktime Pro using Time Machine? The system thinks it was upgraded to 7.6.6, but I didn't have it in the Utilities directory and it looks like it wasn't upgraded.
    Size: 34.2 megs.
    Modified: Monday, July 20, 2009
    Version: 7.6.6, Copyright 1989-2009

If you upgraded to iTunes 12, there may be a problem with iTunes media if you didn't have iTunes 12 in Mavericks.

One registration per purchase. If QuickTime has been un-registered on the old machine you can use that same registration info on a new machine.

  • I would like to convert an animated Gif to .mov, will Quicktime Pro 7 do this? Should I spend the money?

    Hi everyone.
I'm looking to put a few animations onto keynote and I'm making my presentation on PowerPoint.
I need to convert an animated gif into a .mov file and was wondering whether Quicktime Pro 7 does this?
    Thanks

I need to convert an animated gif into a .mov file and was wondering whether Quicktime Pro 7 does this?
Since it appears QTKirk has provided the best answer for your specific work flow issue as stated, I will answer your more general question...
Yes, QT 7 Pro can open an animated GIF file and save it as an MOV file. At this time the real question is whether or not the MOV file produced is suitable for your needs. Basically the MOV file can be then then be played—but it only plays one pass in the normal playback mode. You can, of course opt to loop the playback which, for a small files, plays much as the original GIF.
Unfortunately, the "Loop" setting is not saved when the MOV file is saved, so this option must be re-initialized each time the MOV file is opened. This would not be a problem if all you are doing is openening the file in the QT 7 player and letting it play in the looped mode all day as some sort of display but would likely be an unsatisfoactory solution for sending the MOV file to someone else. You could, of course, turn the MOV file into a QTL file with the loop option set to get around this problem.
While I would be hard pressed to say it would be a good investment just for the creation of GIF movie files, QT 7 Pro does offer a lot of other features that make it a bargain utility for many quick edit requirements if you use/need them.
