OS/2 Filetransfer per NetBios over a 2Mbit Wan Link

Hi all,
my customer change from Token Ring to Ethernet since the change the netbios traffic performance fall from 230kbit/s throuput to 18kbit/s.
IP traffic is not be affected, IP runs with 230kbit/s.
We have an Ethernet-(Router1)-2MbitWAN-(Router2)-Ethernet connection, between the Ethernet goes an DLSW peer.
Netbios traffic (Filetranfer)goes from a OS/2 Client to a OS/2 Server.

I think that you need to find out the bottle neck. I suggest you to do the following:
1. use show TCP and find out if there are excessive retransmission
2. use show dlsw circuit and find out if there are any flow control indicator
3. use show llc and find out the state of the LLC2 circuit
If the above show commands do not give you any hint, you may need to take a sniffer trace to capture the llc2 session (either on the token ring side or ethernet side)

  • Video Conferencing over Low speed WAN links

    Hi there,
Can somebody explain possible point-to-nultipoint video conferencing solution over low speed WAN links ?
( I have central site and about 20 remote sites - hub and spoke configuraition)
    a. What is the minimum BW requirement
    b. If using Cisco Video advantage at users desktop how do we select the proper MCU at the central site ?

Buffer 15 to 30 seconds. Make sure to tell them there will be

    that.

  • How could I create a Compliance Settings that enforces NetBIOS over TCP/IP?

    Hello Everyone,
I need to be able to enforce NetBIOS over TCP/IP on some collections. I've created a batch script  with one line that disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP but I also need to make sure this is enforced. How could I do the enforcement using Compliance Settings?
    This is the line I use to disable it;
"wmic nicconfig where (TcpipNetbiosOptions!=Null and TcpipNetbiosOptions!=2) call SetTcpipNetbios 2"
Thank you everyone in advance for any help

I could probably help you with a CI for discovery and remediation, but I need (or you need to define) an additional parameter.
If I were to run this as a powershell discovery script:
    $adapter=(gwmi win32_networkadapterconfiguration | where {$_.ipenabled -eq "1"})
    Foreach ($nic in $adapter) {
    write-host $nic.TcpIPNetBiosOptions
    what's echo'd out (in my testing) is a 0, a 1 , or a 2.
0 means "default--use what your dhcp is offering"
    1 = enabled
    2 = disabled.
So... from your standpoint... is a 0 or 1, (either one) acceptable?  or is only a value of 1, a hard-coded at the client (not whatever the default is from dhcp) the only acceptable value?
fyi, the remediation script, if 1 is the only acceptable answer, would probably be this:
    $adapter=(gwmi win32_networkadapterconfiguration | where {$_.ipenabled -eq "1"})
    Foreach ($nic in $adapter) {
    $adapter.settcpipnetbios(1)
    Standardize. Simplify. Automate.

  • Curious NetBios over TCP/IP issues and Windows SMB shares

    Hi all.
I've got two Win 2003 R2 SP2 member servers on our AD domain. Each has shared network folders on them which are accessed by both Windows and Mac users.
Both servers - lets call them ALPHA and BETA - are identically setup: same hardware, configuration etc. but exist on different subnets.
Alpha has never had a problem with Mac clients connecting to any of its shares.
Beta has, up until recently, only ever had Windows clients, but now has a couple of Snow Leopard Mac clients. When a Mac client attempts to connect via SMB or CIFS to any share on Beta - they get the prompt to authenticate and then "Connection Failed. There was an error connecting to the server Beta. Check the server name or IP address and then try again". Of course the same thing happens when I try to connect by IP.
Curiously, the only way I can get Mac clients to connect to shares on Beta is to go into the network adapter settings on Beta, advanced, WINS and then disable NetBios over TCP/IP. Unfortunatley this breaks some unrelated stuff and I eventually have to go back in and set NetBios back to Default (enabled) and the whole thing screws up again in a few hours time again for my beloved Mac users.
The other server Alpha never gives me any problem with Mac clients, and as I say, they are setup identically. I have been testing this with 10.6.3 clients, not sure if my 10.5 or 10.4 clients are affected.
Can anyone offer some suggestions as to why my shares aren't accessible to my Mac clients on both servers?

  • Load balancing over two separate outside routers and two separate WAN Links

    Hi everybody,
I have one 2851 setup with two separate ISP links and have it configured for failover with BGP.  It works great but doesn't load balance.
Well now I have to new routers (3925's) to replace the single 2851 and I want to configure them to load balance over separate WAN links.
Can someone help figure out the best approach to make this happen?  I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you,

The "best approach", IMO, would be to use PfR (if your routers support it).

  • EEM -automatic shut down or switch over of WAN link in OSPF when packet drop increase

    Hi,
    Need help..
can any one help me how can EEM help for automatic shut down or switch over of WAN link in OSPF when packet drop increase a predefined level.
I have a set up different branches connected together...OSPF is the routing protocol and need to communicate with two branches via hub locations.
need to shut or switch some percent of traffic from primary to back up when packet drop in the link.

I am not sure EEM can do what you want.
Another option could be to use SLA tacking/monitoring. But you will fall back to the new route when you lose some percentage of pings, you can't switch only part of the traffic.
    I hope it helps.

  • Transport dot1q vlan tagging over wan link

    Hi,
I would like to transport 802.1Q vlan tagging over a wan link, is it possible ?
    I heard about l2tp V3...
    Best regards

    Hi,
You would have to use a technology such as Ethernet over MPLS (EoMPLS) or VPLS. This technology is referred to as Layer 2 VPNs. You can get more info on this at the following locations:
EoMPLS (part of the Cisco Any Transport over ATM suite):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6646/products_ios_protocol_option_home.html
    VPLS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6648/products_ios_protocol_option_home.html
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • FXO traffic is going over Wan link after enabling QoS

    Hi,
We have CCM 5.0,2811 voice gateway,1 4FXO and 1 g.shdsl card on it. 4 Telco lines are on 4FXO card.CCM is at the other side of g.shdsl line.Topology like that,
    2811 ---------------- CCM
    4fxo g.shdsl
When a call receives from FXO port, system is working normally without QoS. When we enable QoS traffic, traffic is going over wan link then return again.Because of that, delays and timeouts occuring.Router's config is at the attachment. Please Help!
    Thank you

Check your H323 gateway config in CCM to be sure the Media Termination Point Required box is unchecked. Using MTP forces the call to terminate on the closest MTP resource which is likely at your CCM site.

  • Slow merge replication over a WAN link - only downloads

    Hi all,
We've been using SQL Server merge replication for a few years to synchronise data between our data centres, but we are now suffering with a big performance issue. This may be because the amount of data we are synchronising has increased a lot this year.
Our publisher is an always-on data centre in the UK. Our subscriber is a mobile data centre that travels around the world and is on for periods of up to a week at a time, approx. 25 times a year. However, it also spends the same amount of time (if not more)
switched off whilst on its travels - it is a well travelled data centre!
We have 5 database that we synchronise on these servers. However, one of our databases has high numbers of data changes between periods of subscriber downtime and our issue is that it take days to catch up when the server is powered up - the other databases
    are fine.
Downloads from publisher to subscriber run at about 1.5 rows a second (which is annoying when we have hundreds of thousands of rows) but strangely uploads from subscriber to publisher run about ten times faster.
Things I have checked / tried:
all tables have non-clustered primary keys on guid columns that have the rowguid property set
changing the generation levelling threshold doesn't help
setting the agent profile to high volume doesn't help
running a trace at the publisher and subscriber shows the queries are all running very fast (less than 20 m/s generally, but there are gaps of 200 m/s or so between some batches of queries)
analysis on our WAN link shows we have huge amounts of bandwidth spare
analysis on our servers show we have huge amounts of Ram and CPU spare
Some of the places the subscriber is at do suffer from high latency but this doesn't seem to have an impact - 300 m/s or 100m/s and we still get the same poor performance.
One things I did wonder about - does the replication confirm to the publisher every time it has successfully processed a row at the subscriber? If we have thousands of rows and there is a latency on the line will this compound the issue if it confirms each
item? If this does happen, is there a way to batch up messages between publisher and subscriber?
Any help that you can offer will be gladly received!
    Thanks
    Mark

    1) merge replication processes the uploads/downloads in batches. So no, there is no confirmation for each row processes, but there is per batch. If there is an error/conflict a batch is retried as singletons (a single row processed at a time), so you need
    to minimize conflicts/errors.
    2) No, but you should use pull and wan accelerators for max performance and change your profile to use 2000 for the following:
    MaxDownloadChanges
    MaxUploadChanges
    UploadGenerationsPerBatch
    DownloadGenerationsPerBatch
    UploadReadChangesPerBatch
    DownloadReadChangesPerBatch
    UploadWriteChangesPerBatch
    DownloadWriteChangesPerBatch
set network packet size to a large value - you will need to work with your wan engineer to find out what works best. 32k will likely be best.
Also you may want to copy a file of a known size from your publisher to your subscriber and then from your subscriber to your publisher to see if there is a significant difference in time. For drives will yield significant differences.
I have found that you may have a trigger which is generating a large volume of unnessary changes. You will need to see what table/article is generating all the changes and evaluate whether the changes are legit.
Precomputed partitions should speed up the enumeration times. Ensure you have supporting indexes - the missing indexes DMV helps here.
Lastly you may find that a reinitialization is faster than processing the changes.

  • SQL Server Connection over WAN Link

    I am planning
to setup a BlackBerry server and connect to a remote SQL Server over a
WAN link with 150+ms ping time.  Is there a known tolerance for
SQL server connection latency?  For example, I have been told by
RIM that ping time for Exchange should be around 35ms so if it is
higher, a BES should be placed next to the Exchange server.  Any reply would be greatly appreciated.

There is no problem with slow connection :-)
You might get lots of waits in the SQL side (most likly there will be lots of
ASYNC_NETWORK_IO) which you can monitor using sys.dm_os_waiting_tasks and sys.dm_exec_requests. But if there is no disconnections then most small application will work OK

  • Configuring NetBIOS over TCP/IP

How do I disable NetBIOS using netsh?
    Thank you,
    Alex

I had issues trying to set an XP box with WMIC command-line utility as well.  If the box is Vista or 'better' you can use WMIC to do just about anything.
Here's what I use - not much different than everyone else's suggestion:
wmic nicconfig where (IPEnabled=TRUE) call SetTcpipNetbios 1
wmic nicconfig where (IPEnabled=TRUE) call SetWINSServer "IP1","IP2"
wmic nicconfig where (IPEnabled=TRUE) call SetDNSServerSearchOrder ("IP1","IP2","IP3","IP4","IP5")
wmic nicconfig where (IPEnabled=TRUE) call FlushDNS
Obviously, I've sanitized our network settings from this.
You can search through the settings for netsh on each level with the '/?'.
    Example:
    c:\Scripts>netsh /?
    Usage: netsh [-a AliasFile] [-c Context] [-r RemoteMachine] [-u [DomainName\]Use
    rName] [-p Password | *]

  • WRT350N - NetBIOS over wireless problem

I have a wrt350n at home and it works fine but it has only one little issue. When I connect my lap wirelessly I cant see the other workgroup pcs but if I wire the laptop there is no problem.
I use ip to share files and not netbios but sometimes it would be great to find all the pcs on the workgroup easely and not memorize all the ips.
Pleas someone help me with this issue. I have no more ideas. Disabeled firewalls, updated firmware, tried to change network ip... nothing solved.
Have no problems at work with an WRT54G.
    Thx.

    Hi,
I've been reading about this sort of issues and this is not about my pc firewall (I dont have it enabled and dont have AV).
I think this is something about the firmware.
    Quote from this post: http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Cable-and-DSL/WAG320N-LAN-cleints-cannot-ping-WLAN-clients/td-p/39...
"there is a bug in device software that when device change  key , broadcast packet not propagate to Wireless machine any more, and thus ARP request not broadcast to wireless part and cause above problem. changing  this value from 1 hour to 24 hour , make problem very rare to occur."
It's a firmware problema as I allways said. They aint gona fix it because they dont care about their customers.
I'm never buying cisco home routers again.

  • TMS 14.3.2 - No HTTPS Response from devices (again) - Looks like permissions issues (but possibly down to NetBIOS over TCP/IP)

    Hi All,
Sometime ago I posted regarding an issue I was seeing on our TMS , where most of the remote devices seemingly showed up as loosing remote connection (no HTTPS Response - https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12290956/tms-lost-https-communciation-devices-not-really). However, I could not figure out the root cause of the error, and now I have managed to break things again - probably due to a Java upgrade which broke TMSPE (see https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12404166/looks-latest-update-java-8-update-31-will-break-tmspe-11).
However, I thought I would look at little more closely this time to see if I could figure out the problem.
I am seeing a lot of entries in the Security Log in TMS that seem to indicated that my the account used from a TMSPE connection has a bad or invalid password (this is set in "Administrative Tools --> Configuration --> Provisioning Extension Settings", but this password is correct (I can log into TMS with this account, and reset and restarted services etc).

    Hi all,
After a long a fraught weekend trying to fix things, I am not that much further on, but I am beginning to understand what it isn't........ I think :(
It looks as though the "DatabaseScanning" service, or anything that runs under the credentials of the "nt authority\network service" seems to have a problem.
The Audit log show lot of entries where services such as"TMSWebPublic" running under the ISS Application pool "tmsnet40apppool", and actions launched under our own credential appear to communicate just fine with the device, only for the 'network service' to time out the connection a short while later. The same goes for some (not all) of the Phone book updates, which also looks as though it runs under the credentials of the 'Network Service' account.

However, I still don't know at this point is this is related to the actual TMS front end, something to do with the domain and policies that have been applied to TMS, or the actual database, or even just communication with the back end database??? I did try running the services under a domain user (service) account, but then ran into other issues as I couldn't log into TMS.
BTW, removing TMS, and IIS and reinstalling did fix my second issue relating to the 'Communication Errors'.
