OS 9 & OS X not playing well tofether

Hi! I'm having a problem with OS X and OS 9.2.2 cohabitating on my computer. Here's what I've done so far:
I have 5 drives on my computer: 1) Dedicated to OS 9.2.2; 2) Backup for OS 9.2.2 (cannot boot from this drive; it has replaced the Zip drive on ATA bus 0); 3) Dedicated to audio; 4) Dedicated to audio backup; 5) Dedicated to document archive (on SCSI card, cannot boot).
I initialized the audio backup drive (120 gb) and made two partitions: 110 gb for audio backup and 10 gb for OS X. I then installed OS X on the partition successfully.
Since I had problems before, I restarted and booted from my Norton Utilities disk and checked all the other disks. EACH DISK had this error message:
"There is a major error in the Alternate Volume Header Block. The last mounted version is invalid. The Volume Header Block and Alternate store important information about your HFS+ disk, such as the number of files and folders on the disk (6, 2, 36)".
I then repeated the process. Same thing.
What do I do now? Most of my software is older and not written for OS X, and I can't afford updates. Plus, I like OS 9.2.2, particularly for its stability with audio. Help!
P. S.: I did NOT run Norton on the OS X partition. Here's how it went:
1) Installed OS X
2) Restarted, booted from OS 9 disk
3) Restarted, booted from Norton CD
4) Tested all OS 9 disks, got the error messages
Thanks.
B&W G3/400 Mac OS 9.2.x 1 GB RAM, 1-4 GB hard drive (main slot), 2-120 GB drives on Tempo ATA 133 (other slots), 1-6 GB driv

Hi, Stanley -
Suggest you boot to your latest OS 9 Install CD and run Disk First Aid from the Utilities folder on the CD, let it have a look at the OS 9 volumes. If it does not confirm the report from Norton Disk Doctor, I would believe Disk First Aid. Although it is somewhat limited in repair capabilities, its diagnostics are excellent.
Note - Disk First Aid can not repair firewire nor USB drives at all, nor give a substantive report about them (it can do so for SCSI drives). However, you can run the Verify function in Disk First Aid on such drives - if there's nothing wrong with the drive, Verify will work; if there is something wrong with it, Verify will not run at all. That's not real informative, but it is a beginning - and, if Verify runs, you can assume the drive is okay.
Alsoft's DiskWarrior is a much more dependable disk utility, and, unlike Norton Disk Doctor, can be trusted. The current versions of Disk Warrior, v. 3.x, boot to OSX and are suitable for working with OS 9 volumes as well as OSX ones.

  • Can I get an older release of Firefox? 36.0 does not play well with Windows 7.

Firefox 36.0.4 does not play well with Windows 7. If it opens at all, it freezes within a minute so the screen goes pale and I get the classic spinning circle of death. Then the header says (not responding).
Ideally I would like to drop back to version 32 or 33, but 34 and 35 had fewer problems.
Can I find older versions anywhere?

You can [[Install an older version of Firefox]] any time. But which will cause significant security risk. So If you can't use the latest version of Firefox, we recommend that you use the latest version of another browser.

I have had my mac since December of this year. Suddenly it will not play video with stopping every few seconds to load, and my internet is running slower even though the connection is fine and everythiny else in the house on wifi is working well. Whats the issue?

Run this web based browser scan, it will tell you in red and provide a link to the download page.

Also another great free program is OnyX, just run everything, cleans your machine out on a system level.
You can cancel the reboot to run another cleaning section, just make sure you reboot at the end before using the computer.

  • Animation does not play well on iPad

    Hi,
I finally was able to get the animation I want in Keynote on my Mac Pro.
Everything works fine and smooth. Animation starts after about 2 sec.
Then I export it via iTunes. The mov file I move to my iPad 2, where I have Keynotes installed as well.
The .mov file is somewhere in the middle.
First problem: it takes almost 10 sec (far tooo long) to start the action= animation.
Several times it happen, that only the beginning of the animation is shown, then it goes to the next slide.
It looks like a very hi resolution viedeo shown on a very slow computer.
All other slides work well, about 9 of them are mov files... well... m4v to be exact.
Now I am not sure... if I had to transcode that file in compressor.... I tried several different outputs, some iPad did not accept, so I had to transcode them to Apple TV format.
The setting is "Tab screen" to advance, not transition.
    What am I doing wrong?
Kind of embarrasing, when it takes so long to start action!
Also I saw somehow an option in iPad "Play movie"
I have quite a few video files in there, but none play by themself.
I have to tab the screen again to make them play.
Can they be set to automatic play, when the slide opens?
    Thank you.
    Dorian

I have had the same problem earlier and it all came down to the fact that the laptop simply wasn't powerful enough to play the content.
If it's due to the latptop not being powerful enough then the only thing you can do really is to reduce your project - either in quality (slide quality) - or in number of slides.

  • Airport and Linksys WEP do not play well with each other

    I have a MacBook Pro (15", 2.0ghz, 2gb RAM, 100gb HDD - OSX 10.4.8) connecting to Linksys AP's and/or Router with WEP.
I can NOT connect to WEP locked Linksys stuff. I have read all over the internets that you just prefix the WEP key with a $, but when I try and do that - OSX will not take the key - it just makes the "dunk" noise that means "you can't do that, stupidhead". I believe this information is for older versions of the Airport software.
This has happened with my WRT54g at home, as well as two WAP54GP's I just set up at my new office all with the latest / new firmwares.
Using the same key in Boot Camp/Windows (cut and pasted out of a text file on a USB thumb drive) it works just perfectly. Is there a way to get some more debug level info out of Airport when it tries to connect?
Here is a screenshot of my config:
    Click me!
iMac G5 2.0 /\ 15" MacBook Pro /\ Core Solo Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4)   Black iPod Video 30g

Easiest solution is to use WPA instead, this is actually secure compared to WEP.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • IPod does not play well with left speaker

I have tried several ear buds as well as stereo's for playback with my iPod. The left speaker plays at about 1/2 as loud as the right speaker in all these devices. This has happened with 2 seperate iPods. I've downloaded songs from 2 seperate PC's to the iPod and still get the same results. Has anyone else experienced this?

hmm mine does the same thing from time to time but with the right speaker...I thought it was the car stereo I was playing it through but I've tried a few sets of headphones to discover that it must be the ipod itself.
I've discovered that this is an intermittant problem - the ipod will either work fine or produce only 20% of volume throught the right speaker. The problem doesn't come and go while you're listening to it, but when you turn the thing off and come back to play music or video later - it either works correctly or it doesn't.

  • PS4 and Cintiq not playing well together

This problem relates to the Cintiq 21 UX & Photoshop CS4 ONLY!
I have a dual monitor setup: Cintiq 21 & NEC 19 LCD Opticlear Miltisync 90GX2. Both monitors are driven by separate ATI Radeon HD2600XT cards with 512MB video RAM. The system CPU is an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core 6000+ chip. I have loaded what I believe to be the most current drivers from this web site.
Start PS4 on the Cintiq side; load ANY image; get image with 6 rectangles overlaid and each rectangle is divided diagonally in half from URHC to LLHC. Lower half is good image; upper hald is either a solid color, grossly pixellated, or gibberish. Drag the image a bit and as long as it is being dragged it is a perfect image; stop dragging and it returns to the image with 6 rectangles. Drag across to the NEC monitor and image is sharp and clear while dragging but goes transparent upon release of mouse.
Start PS4 on the NEC side and all is as advertised. Drag only the image over to Cintiq and it is still good. Now drag PS4 over to the Cintiq side and all is still good. Open another image on the Cintiq side and problem repeats.
This problem is fully repeatable, does not happen with any other software, and renders PS4 virtually useless. PS3 works as advertised and always has.  I've done 4 installs of CS4 to see if it was the problem including a thorough registry cleaning between installs. Situation is constant across installs. Oddly, Bridge does not exhibit the problem.  I'm sending to Wacom as well.  I provided 2 jpgs of what the images look like.
Any and all advice greatly appreciated
    dave

Both monitors use the DVI connection  on the respective cards, so no,
not at this time. Perhaps if I can locate an adapter I may be able to do
so. However, Photoshop CS3 has absolutely no problems with this set up
nor does Bridge CS4, only Photoshop. As Bridge loads with Photoshop and
is not a separate install, I'm thinking that while it could have
something to do with the cards/driver, there must be something more.
    However, I've been wrong before  . . . . .

  • After Effects CC and Windows 8 not playing well together.  How can I fix this?

I thought the problem was a specific project file, but then it happened during another, and then another that I was building without any funky assets.  After Effects suddenly ceases to respond, it flickers uncontrollably while Windows 8 Explorer becomes semi-unresponsive as well.  When AE becomes responsive again, the same thing happens when I go to make another edit or two.
Troubleshooting: What I noticed is when I go to the Task Manager to kill Explorer, AE responds again.  Until I go to make another few edits at least, where it then starts to flicker uncontrollably again.  Does anybody else have this problem?  This is really putting a kink in my workflow.

  • Adobe 8.1.2 & VS2005 asp not playing well together

I have a web application with an Adobe Acrobat 7 pdf form which is processed by a VB asp page that was working well yesterday.
Today I had to make a change on the pdf form and saved it in AA 8.1.2 (which increased the filesize from 140kb to 340kb - what's with that?). Now when I submit the form my asp page errors out with a "A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client..." message.
We had issues in the past when moving from AA6 to AA7 so I suspect the Adobe folks made some more unwelcome changes to v8.1.2. Have any of you run into this problem and what did you do to correct? Thanks for your help.

First, try a Save As, not a save.

  • Videos on iPod are not playing well, can I improve the quality in any way?

I put a number of videos onto my iPod and tried to play a few, but none of them were playing very well.....is there anything I can do to be able to view them without the bad quality.

Where are the videos from? iTunes Store or your own? If they have been converted by you for the iPod then you will need to play around with converter program settings to get an acceptible picture.
I personally don't consider any video on ipod very good quality considering the 320x240 screen resolution.

    HI,
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left.
Delete your Google keychain. Relaunch Safari. Navigate to the Google site, login as usual. Click Yes when prompted to save your username and password.
Make sure in Safari/Preferences - Autofill you have User names and passwords selected.
If that doesn't help, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset. Relaunch Safari.
Still no joy, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • RDP and Java not playing well together

I have a Windows 8.1 Pro machine set up for RDP that connects to a field device network. The field network is not accessible from the Internet, so the only method I have to connect to the field devices is RDP through the machine. The devices use
Java for their GUI. When I log onto one of the devices in the field via RDP, the amount of memory Java uses goes up and stays up. Every time I log onto a field device, the memory usage goes up and stays up to the point if I hit 25 or so field devices, I get
an Out of Memory error and Java shuts down the main application running on the machine. However, if I log onto the devices directly from the machine, not using RDP, the amount of memory Java uses doesn't go up. The machine has 6Gb of RAM, rebooting it is the
only way to clear out the memory, which gets it back down to a more normal 14%.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
What is the result if we connect to a normal Windows system via RDP? We should first find out whether this is a RDP side issue or a JAVA issue.
And for high memory issue, we have a tool named RAMMap to view the detailed memory usage

  • Why do Adobe 9 and Windows 7 Internet explorer not play well?

I use Windows 7 and Adobe came with the new Windows 7 platform however, it has not worked properly since I have owned it for 30 days. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe 9.
When trying to download from internet explorer I am timed out and receive an error message " there is a problem with Adobe Reader/Acrobat, please try again later."  This message also closes internet explorer down.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks

Have you updated AA9 (that is Acrobat)? There are several updates that are typically needed. You did not indicate the version level and you may only have 9.0.0. If you are talking about Reader, then you need to ask in the Reader forum. Adobe is not a product, but the company with many products.
