  • How do I access files that have been recovered (after a Mavericks problem) with the .cca file extension

How do I access files that have been recovered (after a Mavericks problem) with the .cca file extension

First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.

  • 2008 MacPro upgrade to Maverick; problem with wake up.

IT runs like a well oiled machine when it runs. But, it has a problem finding the start up drive. I keep getting the flashing question mark quite frequently. I have to unplug the power cord and leave for 5 minutes EVERY time i start up.
I have initialized my HD and loaded Maverick on a blank drive; I have held down the S key for safe reboot and many other actions. But the only thing that seems to work is unplugging it.
It all started when I upgraded to Maverick. First my memory modules that came with the machine went out. I replaced them by rearranging the other ram I had installed. I don't know if there is any correlation between these events or not.
Was wondering if there is a computer command equivalent to unplugging the power cord for 5 minutes?? replacing battery??

    2008s are fussy.
Pulling the plug is asking for trouble. Resetting the SMC may not really help but should be done.
Zeroing out a new drive and cloning your system with CCC and do a checksum on copy operation.
zap pram will require going to Startup Disk in control panels, set it there.
Safe boot is  okay but Recovery mode is better, and repairing the drive in two places, top level and system volume.
But booting from another drive at least then you can do more and reformat a drive.
FBDIMMs fail, today they are cheap, better and run cooler just look on Amazon for Mac Pro FBDIMMs, you can use 667 which are usually cheaper, or 800MHz.
While at it, invest in a SSD for the system, best $139 upgrade and performance.

  • Iphoto/Mavericks problem

I have been having major problems with iPhoto since upgrading to Mavericks. I can't upgrade to the latest iphoto as I keep being told my Apple ID is not recognised. Howvever, It has been OK for other upgrades I have made over the last 30 days. I was told to delete the iPhoto App from my powerbook and reinstall it via the App Store. But it now seems I have to buy Iphoto from the App store. Does anyone have any idea how I can get round this?

Unless you bought some vender's really old Mac stock, a new Mac bought 12 months ago wouldn't have come with Snow Leopard as the shipping install of OS X.
A Mac that shipped with Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks requires that the user sign into their account in the Mac App Store, go to the Purchases pane and accept the pre-installed iLife apps into their account before using any of the three apps. If the user does not do this, then as per the user agreement on the apps, the iLife apps become one-time as-is apps that cannot be updated or installed on other Macs that you may own or control. As well as, future versions not able to be purchased on the Mac.
Now, if you did get an older Mac with Snow Leopard, then none of that applies and you may need to buy the most recent version of the apps if you want to upgrade.
Did your Mac come with Snow Leopard DVD install disks?
Go to the Apple menu, choose About This Mac. Then choose More Info. What is your Mac's listed year and model?

  • OSX Mavericks problems: Applications not opening/crashing before opening. General slowness

I have a Macbook Pro 2011 model, 2.4ghz and 4GB memory running current Mavericks. Has been working completely fine up until the other day.
At first it started acting a bit sluggish, freezing on some apps and them taking a while to open. Then out of nowhere it fully froze to the point where I had to power off using the power button. Since then only core applications will open. Safari, mail, utilities etc all open fine and just run slowly, Safari in particular can take over a minute to load a page. Pretty much all of the other applications won't open. Chrome was the first to stop working, then Word, Pages and some games. I click on them on the dock and the icon bounces up and down but they just never open.
I've searched on this forum and tried some of the suggestions. I tried repairing disk permissions but it hasn't done anything, tried repairing the disk but it hasn't done anything. The hard drive is 1TB and has 400GB of free space so it's not overly full.
The first thing I did when the problem occured was to check activity monitor to see if anything was rinsing my CPU. Everything seemed normal with usage at about 15% with only one app open. After restarting I have the same problem, but now CPU is at nearly 100% usage with only Safari running. Some of the applications I can't actually open are appearing on the processes list but not appearing as open.
Problem still exists during Safe Mode, and I have no current back ups to revert to. All I can think to try is to back up currently with Time Machine and then to Reinstall the OSX or possibly do a full restore. Would the problem I'm facing not come back immediately when I restore to my back up, thus effectively making the restore pointless?
Is there anything else you can suggest to try?
Thanks in advance for any help

Encountered same problem, solved by downloading Prokit 4.5 and installing, then Aperture started right up. Good luck.

  • Strange Mavericks problem on MBA

I have a strange problem on my MBA with Mavericks.  If I log in as the user (me), I am unable to select files to move.  I get the spinner.  For example, if I want to import a photo from my desktop to my iPhoto library, or I want to upload to Facebook, I get the spinner and must force quit.  If I log on as another user (guest), there is no problem.  There are currently 3 user accounts, mine, guest, and a third one created when I first migrated to this MBA which I never use. and is not at all personalized.  The  apple Store genius suggested that I should just get rid of my old account (me) and make a new one.  I know how to remove that user account, but I need advice on how best to save my files, preferences, etc.  I have an EHD with lots of space. TIA!

Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -N {} + -type d -exec chmod +x {} + 2>&-
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Photoshop CS3 and Mavericks problem?

Using photoshop CS3 in Mavericks and I get a ‘can't save file because it is already in use or was left open’ message when I try and save a photoshop file.
Found a fix online which is to turn off ‘Show preview column’ in show view options, but this is a pain because I like to have the preview with image and file info.
Is there a way around this, seems a strange way to get around this problem.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This is a user-to-user forum, so no one here works for Apple. None of us have any idea what they have running behind the scenes. I'm afraid you're just going to have to wait and see like the rest of us. It's against the Terms of Use of the Apple Discussions to speculate about unannounced or unreleased products, but the Macworld Expo starts in San Francisco in a little more than two weeks. In the past, Apple has released software updates at the same time as the expo to support new software and hardware. No one here can speculate if this will include the update you're looking for, however.

  • HP Premium C310a Printer/Scanner - OSX 10.9 Maverick Problems......

I own a HP Photosmart Premium All-in-one C310a Printer/scanner which has the ability to print wirelessly and also e-print.
I used to operate on OSX Mountain Lion (MAC) before I decided to stupidly upgrade to OSX 10.9 (Maverick)
Ever since I have done that, I have lost the ability to scan and print from my HP Utility.
I have updated all my software as per the Driver/Support page of HP and also did a software update on my apple Mac but still I am having no success in being able to print wirelessly from my desktop to my printer as I could previously?
I am able to print fine from my iphone to my printer and if I connect my desktop mac via USB cable, the print works fine as well, which leads me to believe that there is nothing wrong with the printer itself?
If I continue to use the USB cable with my desktop and printer, i will lose the ability to print wirelessly which is something I use often.
Anyone have any suggestions or solutions to my problem besides waiting for an updated driver from HP?

    Hi Enz
I understand you are unable to print over the wireless network on the Maverick.
I would uninstall the old printer software.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02259020&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...
Then reinstall the printer again by running the Apple Updates.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03967522&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4159&product=423...
When you add the printer check to see if it added the printer driver name or the airprint driver.
Try one if that doesn't work delete and add the other one in.
Print out a configuration page and make sure the ip address and network name are valid.

If you require further assistance please provide the following so I can assist you
    better.
When trying to add the printer does it see it?
What is the IP address? (just the first 3 digits)
Does it show proper network name?

  • Reinstalling Mac OS X Mavericks Problem

So what I have done thus far is a reset using OS X Utilities> Disk Utility> Macintosh HD> Erase> Erase. Following that I went back to the OS X Utilities menu. Then went to Reinstall OS X> Continue> Continue> Agree (to terms of software)> Agree> and then selected the Macintosh HD to install the software on. I have a wifi connection strong and reliable. The problem comes when I am prompted to sign into the App Store with my Apple ID and Password. Upon entering the information I am given the window "This item is temporarily unavailable. (Try again later.)" So I tried for 3 days to see how late "later" is. I need an alternate method to reinstall the software. Or I need someone to explain how I can copy OS X on a CD or external disc to be able to install it that way.
    Thanks.

What version of OS X did your computer come with when it was new? That's where you need to start unless you have an install disc for a version that was later than that. IF it shipped with Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks you can reinstall using Internet Recovery OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
If it shipped with Snow Leopard or earlier you need to reinstall from the original gray install discs that came with it. Alternately you can use a retail Snow Leopard disc that you can get from Apple http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
I don't understand what you mean by the Mac App Store is unresponsive? Mavericks is no longer available and thats what it's telling you. Once you have reinstalled the original OS, provided that it's 10.6.8 or greater, you can then access the App Store and upgrade to Yosemite for free. Or you can purchase Lion or Mountian Lion......but you cannot get Mavericks.

  • Double-Click to Open Folders in Mavericks Problem

Since I installed Mavericks on my 27" iMac, I have had a problem with double-clicking to open a drive or a folder. It seems to be working only about one out of every tenth time I try it. I can open them with a right click and select open. If a drive is open I can open them using the small grey right arrow next to the folder. Other than that I get failure most of the time. I have tried trashing the Finder preference file, but this does not seem to work. I have tried restarting with no success.
The only think I did that may be connected is regarding Finder Preferences Tags. I wanted to see what choices there were there. Each colored tag had a small blue square to the right with a minus sign in it. I checked the Red tag to make it a check mark. I can't seem to get it back to the small minus sign. I am not sure if this is connected.
Anyone else with the same problem or a solution?

I tried creating a new duplicate account with Migration Assistant, but this did not change. I now suspect it has to do with overall size of my account - many files, pictures, movies, music, etc accumulated over many years. I see that Spotlight is still trying to index all of the files, which may be what is slowing things down.
The main effect is the inability to double-click a drive or folder to open it up. It works only about 1/3 of the time. When the main folder opens, the next level folder most often still has a problem.
I will report back when Spotlight finishes its indexing.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • Mavericks problems now SOP for Apple upgrades?

Up until a year or so ago I have always found Apple upgrades to be relatively straightforward. Maybe a few peculiar issues related to the particular setup of my Mac - sometimes the laptops would have an issue sometimes my iMac - but in general a few minutes tweaking would sort it out.
However Mavericks seems to continue a trend started by iOS 6 and strongly continued by iOS 7, that upgrades that cause so many problems that they are unworkable. I am beginning to think this malaise has become the new norm for Apple. My iPhones have become subject to frequent BSOD and now Mavericks is one of the worst "upgrades" I have ever seen. My Smart Mailboxes are a complete mess. My general mailbox is not as I would wish to see it and in particular my Gmail accounts are trashed. How did this get out of Cupertino? Did anyone bother testing with anything that might be used in the real world, like Gmail?
I've rolled back to Mountain Lion and will await a proper release of Mavericks.
But be warned Apple - I (and I reckon many more  former Apple fans too) am not prepared to put up with the shoddy upgrades much longer. My friends/colleagues tell me how wonderful MSFT has become and how the lessons of the Windows era have been learnt - not sure I quite believe it, but it does seem Apple is intent on following a similar catastrophic learning path when it comes to upgrades.

I'm happy for you Barney but certainly from my perspective I do not agree that the past year's upgrades have been "nothing different". A short overview of this community will show that there are major issues for many people.
When you move from being a computer user's platform of choice to mass market (as Apple has clearly done) there is a lot more care required with upgrades.
I do not want a platform which needs tweaking after every upgrade - especially if all my applications are downloaded from the Apple App Store. I have an expectation that Apple has ensured these apps are compatible across upgrades or I am notified that they are not.
If you want to sell a premium product then it needs premium upgrades not poorly validated ones.
Smart Mailbox is a premium OSX feature and it is not working at all after this upgrade. I can see all the messages sitting on the servers but Mail refuses to list them in the SM. That is not a Gmail issue it is an Apple Mail issue and a pretty simple issue to check. And yes of course I've carried out all the rebuilds to try to recover the SMs but no avail. I'm nor trying Mavericks on a backup machine to see if it works any better with that but my working machines are staying on Mountain Lion for now.
You are fortunate your iOS devices work, certainly out of the 4 iPhones (2 5s and 2 4s) and 2 iPads I have here, the 4's and iPads work fine but the 5s are BSODed. Same app suites on the iPhones so that strikes me as a compatability issue.
Anyway my point remains valid - for 6 years since I changed all my laptops and desktops to Apple I have had no issues with any upgrade. Now in the past year I have issues with iOS and now with OSX.
    There is a problem
