OS X MAVERICKS iPHOTO

I just downloaded OS X Mavericks yesterday and I notice that my iPhoto has a white circle with a line through it and it says "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X."
I am freaking out because I have so many pictures in there and I don't have a back-up of any of it. [I know, stupid of me.]
I don't know what I would do if i lost my pictures.
My question is if I pdate iPhoto will my pictures still be there?
I have iPhoto 9.2.3 and it says its not the right version.
PLEASE HELP!!!

iPhoto 9.2.3 is not compatible with OS X Mavericks. However, you are running iPhoto '11, so you can update to the latest iPhoto version for free. Open the Mac App Store, go to Updates tab and download the most recent iPhoto version.
If you don't see this iPhoto update, try switching your OS X language to English in System Preferences > Language & Region and restarting. Then, the iPhoto update should appear

  • After upgrading to Mavericks, iPhoto does not work

I have an iMac early 2011, with dual hard drives. After upgrading to Mavericks, iPhoto and several other apps are no longer "installed". The following apps have a white circle with a line through it in my main Applications folder on my primary hard drive: Calculator, Chess, Font Book, iChat, iPhoto, Mail, Photo Booth, Preview, Safari, System Prefernces. Also, under the Utilities folder, these are inaccessible: Activity Monitor, System Information, Disk Utility.
    I tried following this thread's advice: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5539268
I had iPhoto 9.3.2 on my main drive. I downloaded the 9.4.3 upgrade from here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#consumersoftware
When I try to install, I get the following message: iPhoto 9.1 or later is required to install this update. Where did my software disappear to?
Every Apple upgrade so far has been a nightmare. A previous upgrade of iPhoto bricked the computer and had to bring it to professionals to fix. I am dreading the 10.9.2 "critical upgrade" for the OS that keeps poping up. The Mavericks upgrade also wiped out my Adobe Creative Suite install and several other apps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need iPhoto ver 9.5.1 to be Maverick compatable.
Use the software update, look for the new app in your Applications folder along side your old versions of iPhoto. Drag the new icon down to the Dock.
Moving from 10.6.8 the old PowerPC apps are no longer supported. I believe Lion you could still run  the Rosetta to keep the old ppc apps alive. No more with Mountain Lion and now Mavericks. Sooner or later you have to keep up with technology and keep apps up to date.

  • After upgrading to os maverick iPhoto wants to upgrade it says..Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. What exactly will I lose?

after upgrading to os maverick iPhoto wants to upgrade it says..Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. What exactly will I lose, what will not be readable?

In the current version of iPhoto, nothing.
In previous versions of iPhoto, the ability to access any part of it.
Back it up before doing this.

  • I have upgraded to Mavericks, iphoto is now saying my version is out dated, everything else is fine this is the only problem.

I have upgraded to Mavericks, iphoto is now saying my version is out dated, everything else is fine this is the only problem. Tried looking for updates etc, to no avail.....any ideas???

Check your version of iPhoto. If it is iPhoto 08 7.1.5 from OSX days it is old and if you want a current version you will need to purchase it on the Apple App store.

  • Maverick iPhoto,Printer CanonPIXMA.MG6200. prints turn out green Y?

Maverick iPhoto Canon Printer PIXMA MG6200 Upgraded Y are prints turning green.

I too have a MacBook with Lion and an Epson R2880..I'm in the process of evaluating CS6 on the
MAC platform after using PS and Premier Pro on Windows boxes since 1995; so far I'm
very impressed with how CS6 runs under LION given the somewhat strained
    relationship between Apple & Adobe..but I digress..my first attempt at a print
with Luster produced very distorted imagery compared to that of my Thunderbolt
display (which I love BTW)..I recognize the distortion almost certainly
that caused by either 1)an improperly selected printer driver in the dialoges or
2)bad or clogged ink jets or 3)a printer driver not updated for my new hardware/software
combo..in this case LION with CS6 (beta s/w)...now in my case its not #2 as I just
printed the same tiff file with CS5 on my Windows machine perfectly; its also not #1 cause
I checked & rechecked the matte settings...I suspect #3 is the culprit..I'll do some
more troubleshooting with this and report back..
Oh, BTW, soft proofing on my MAC TB display revelaed not distortions so even
tho I have done no monitor calibrations on this display I have no reason to
    suspect thatas the culprit..

  • What is the best sequence of upgrading: SSD, OSX Mavericks, iPhoto Library?

Working on breathing new life into / upgrading my wife's mid-2009 MacBook Pro (Macbook Pro 5,5 - Core 2 Duo, 2.26 GHz, 13"). Currently running OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
So far: I have upgraded the RAM to 8 GB from 2 GB, and replaced the battery which recently reached the end of its life.
Next up: SSD upgrade and possibly OSX upgrade to Mavericks.
    My questions:
    (a) What is my best upgrade path (order/sequence), given the few things I want to with this machine still?
    (b) Are my plans and reasoning below sound?
1.Upgrade the 120 GB hard disk to a 240 GB SSD. I have a SanDisk Extreme II 240 GB (although I know this MBP won't fully utilize the SATA III, I got a good deal on it and plan to use it as an add-on drive somewhere when/if this MBP logic board fails eventually), and a USB to SATA adapter for prep work.
Plan: Attach the SSD via USB adaptor, initialize and partition with Disk Utility (Journaled, GUID Partition Map so it's bootable), clone existing hard disk using Super Duper or CCC (recommendations welcome--I'm on a budget ). Set TRIM enabler, and other recommendations per Upgrading Your MacBook Pro with a Solid State Drive
Reasoning: Doing this SSD upgrade first will give me more free space for updates/changes I plan under #2 and #3 below. (For example, current drive has 11 GB free, which is not much room to try and upgrade to Mavericks now before swapping out for SSD.) Additionally, Mavericks will perform much better on the SSD, per other threads I've read with similar MBPs.
    2. Upgrade OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
This is where some of my Mac knowledge is lacking: Is it best to upgrade here (what I've read so far indicates it's pretty seamless), or to install Mavericks freshly on the SSD and then use Migration Assistant to import from the old hard disk? I hesitate to do the latter, since this Mac still has some messes from a previous migration (see #3).
Coming from a Windows background, I have my biases, but I don't know if the jury's still out on performance differences between fresh Mavericks installs versus upgrades--any light to be shed here?
    3. Fix iPhoto '09 Library and Consider Upgrading to iPhoto '11. Through reading on the great forums here I have concluded that my wife's photo collection currently exists in a weird place - 68 GB under /Previous Systems/<date of MBP upgrade from Macbook>/Users/<username>/Pictures/iPhoto Library. This seems to be left over from when she copied her iPhoto Library from her old Macbook, before this MBP. (Before I sat down to write this post, I had noticed there was an iPhoto Library (much smaller size, just a few GBs) in the normal place, under /Users/<username>/Pictures/iPhoto Library/ -- but now I don't see it, so maybe I goofed up and either lost that or imported it into the above library. Either way, that was going to be one of my questions!)
Should I move this "Previous Systems" iPhoto Library to a more normal place?
If I do again find extraneous photos or libraries outside of it, how best should I bring them back into one -- or a better question might be, how do I ensure THIS becomes the primary iPhoto Library going forward? (links to threads also appreciated -- I have come up short)
If this machine is now on Mavericks, is it a best practice to also purchase iPhoto '11? Eventually, our next Mac will come with it so it may be worthwhile eventually upgrading (I don't know if it is urgent, though).
Overall, does this process make sense? Any glaring gaps? Thank you for your time and wisdom!
    Ryan

Thanks Melophage. I've been looking into my options, together with the advice you gave. It seems like I can salvage quite a bit of data after a fresh install if I follow the steps here - OS X: Manually migrating data from another Mac. However, applications are my (only) concern -- for my iLife suite apps (which as I mentioned, are old -- '09 editions) how can I restore those after installing Mavericks fresh? Can I just plug in the original Snow Leopard disc that says applications on it, to install? Or would they show up in Mac App Store (I think not since they are so old and I haven't purchased '11 with this account yet).
My wife's computer also has some third party apps which would be a pain to reinstall but not end of the world, I suppose. Another route of migrating and keeping these (but still doing a fresh OS install) might possibly be according to OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks, which is really designed for multiple computer copying. But with the SSD external, could I install Mavericks and then take a Time Machine backup of my internal (original) HDD, including those apps, and then follow these steps to import them into the Mavericks install on the SSD, once I booted into it? Does that make sense?
After some further reading on the subject, I found a lot of difference of opinion (especially on some MacRumor threads) about whether to install fresh OS X or upgrade, but I guess if the install ends up cleaner it could be worth it to install a fresh copy.
Any comments on the above approaches, or thoughts from others here? Thanks again for your help.

  • Pre-Mavericks to Post-Mavericks iPhoto backup Restoring Issues

A few months ago, I wiped my hard drive on my 2009 Macbook and installed Mavericks.  Now I cannot restore my iPhoto library from the pre-mavericks time machine backup.  Is there a workaround or have i just lost several years of photos?

Why can't you restore the old backup? (remember we only know what you tell us - we can not see you or your computer)
Basically you need to install iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x and restore the iPhoto library and then convert it to the new iPhoto format - if the old library is from iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x) or earlier you must first download and run the iPhoto library upgraded and then launch iPhoto to finish the conversion - if the old library is from iPhoto '09 or '11 simply put it in the pictures folder an launch iphoto

  • In Mavericks iPhoto slide shows, why do the last pics come first, some pics are upside down, and some vertical pics are horizontal?  How can I fix this?

On my iMac OSX, 10.9.4, Mavericks, I have been trying to view an album as a slide show.  The slide show starts at the end (bottom row picture) instead of the beginning (top 1st picture).  I have gone to View>Sort Photos>Manual.  But the order of Ascending and Descending choices are greyed out with the default check by Ascending.  How can I start at my beginning without rearranging all the photos?  Also, some of the photos are upside down and sideways, even though they are correct in the album.  How can I fix this??   Thank you!  Also, can I include a video in the slide show?  Up to how many seconds/minutes?

Is this a slideshow created directly from an album?
There's a bug with iPhoto 9.5 and Mavericks in that slideshows from Albums do not play correctly if they are sorted manually.  Only photos that have been sorted by date, keyword, rating or title will play from albums correctly.
To have a slideshow with photos sorted manually use the slideshow mode in iPhoto.

  • Updated to Maverick, iPhoto no longer supported

Just updated to OS X, now iPhoto will no longer work.
When I click on the icon it says 'You can't use this version of the application iphoto with the version of OS X. You have iPhoto 9.2.3'.
Have tried updating iPhoto throught The App Store this doesn't work as my Macbook came preinstalled with iPhoto, Garageband etc.
When I try 'Software Update' it says all software is up to date.
    Please help!!

    Hello caz_hallett
Check out the article below that will address that specific issue. Check in the privacy pane of Spotlight to make sure that indexing has been disabled. The Mac App Store should recognize the apps and update it so that the Mac App Store should see it to update it there.

  • Now idvd works with Mavericks' iPhoto Library, but...

I have iDVD installed with Mavericks.
Every time I attempted to click on iPhoto in the button Media of iDVD, iDVD would crash.
Today, I deleted the iDVD plist and the Caches, but in addition, I also opened the iPhoto Library (using Show Content)
and deleted the databases contained in the folder "iLife Shared"
Now I can click on Media and Photos, and iDVD is no longer crashing.
Is this a lasting solution or problems will appear later on with iPhoto?

Did it completely replace my current library with the old one?
Not without warning your first, did it?
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. How many libraries are listed there?

  • Upgraded to Mavericks, iPhoto won't update

I upgraded to Mavericks but iPhoto won't update. Receive this message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." I have only had one user name. I can't get into iPhoto and no update will work. Says I have version 9.3.2 of iPhoto even though I updated.

Did that and now there is no update for iPhoto. Go to the iPhoto app and it says accept and I do but then nothing happens. Have I lost all of my photos??

  • OS X Mavericks iPhoto not installing/updating, doesn't show in updates

After updating to os x mavericks I couldn't accessing iPhoto and when trying to update iPhoto suddenly vanished from the Updates section in the App Store. When I searched for the app the option to update changes between "Update" and "Installing". Has it updated? Is it installing? What is happening?
I am terrified I've lost all my photos! Advice would be much appreciated!

It's doing exactly what is says - installing.

  • Updated to Mavericks, iPhoto won't update

I recently updated to Mavericks and have updated all of the apps that were ready for updates. I updated iPhoto but when I open it it still looks like the old version. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've restarted my computer several times, nothing is working. I'm using a 13 inch late 2009 MacBook (NOT pro), I'm thinking iPhoto 9.5 may be incompatible with my computer.

When I installed it on mine, I had to remove the icon from my dock bar and then go into the Applications folder and take the new one and drag that onto the dock bar to get it to load properly.  It looks like the new icon and loads up the new version.  However, there isn't really much as far as looks in the new version they didn't change a whole lot.  When you click on iPhoto in the menu bar and click on "About iPhoto" what version does it say you have?

Have you failed to allow your previous iPhoto library to be upgraded?
Have you tried holding the "option" key while opening iPhoto to point to your iPhoto library?
