OS X Mavericks issue

If I am using Safari to browse something on the web.  All the sudden my computer will switch to the finder.  Safari is still running in the background, but it is a huge problem!  How do I fix this?

It seems to do it when any program is open, not just Safari.

  • Pages5.1+Mavericks = issues with margins, attaching, transport, pictures, printing, more.

Got Mac Mini with Mountain Lion  ; the GOALS for this computer:
Writing for publication, filling out forms, sending data, photo editing and adjustments, artwork, tasks, email, online consulting, volunteer advocacy, research, etc.
Was beginning to get the hang of things, with some difficulties;but was not finding what I needed.
Unknowingly took bad advice: updated to Mavericks.
    Everything FUBAR'd.
Straightened some things out; at least can access email, get online, do a few things--still can't do meaningful work on it.
Mini = very expensive Entertainment Box; NOT my priority.
I Thought: download programs that can do work.
Got Pages 5.1.  It fails to work right:
    Margins refuse to adjust.
Pictures pasted into Pages document, very hard to adjust on page or get type to wrap around picture, adjust sizing, etc.--time wasting, unable to adjust as wanted on pages--settled for what it would do at all.
Page Setup is hardly relevant to actually setting up a Page.
    Won't attach to Email.
Won't allow reading it anywhere but on the computer it was made.
Won't allow saving Pages nor Text documents using ANY other extensions.
    Saving is a contorted mouse-hunt; there's no "save-as".
For one typed page, a box told me there was HTML in the thing, and that it couldn't deal with it, even though there wasn't.
Pages document Won't save properly to a Pendrive for transport: it reads OK on the MAc, but on the PC, only 1st page visible, the rest unitelligible, pixelated, when moved to a PC.
I thought to transport the Pages document to the PC to copy/paste it into a Owrd Document--THAT failed, too.
Trying to print this Pages document turned into a nightmare: 1st page almost printed, ensuing pages resembled NOTHING I'd saved; a 10-page Pages document turned into many more pages of garbled mess.
I haven't had time to try other features; just making a pretty basic Pages document has been a wicked time-waster.
There doesn't seem to be ANY work-around.
I Thought: copy/paste the content of the Pages document, into a Text document: THAT FAILED.
Copy/Pasting one page at a time for this maneuver, also failed:
Pictures [.jpg] turn fuzzy and HUGE, and refuse adjustment in any way I can find.
Pictures refuse to adjust Easily, whether Pages or Text--couldn't make pictures in Text adjust at all.
Very UNimpressed with the picture editing on this Mac, to date.
Having terrible time doing ANYthing to adjust .jpg's in any document--forget putting photos in emails.
"Help" has been fairly useless; tutorials instruct to do things the programs won't do, or has no suggestion.
Pages is Useless, if it only allows making a basic document that's ONLY visible or minimally usable on the unit it got made on.
Feartures hark back to antique MS Word, like having to go up to Edit in order to copy/paste [as in this message], instead of being able to use Mouse to copy/paste directly in document, for instance.
This computer refuses to allow printing via ethernet or hardwire; Mini sees there's a printer, but can't print, thinks it's not on, or some unknown blockage.
Uninstalled printer, tried to reinstall, Mini refuses to allow reinstall; can't auto-find printer, refuses manual entry of information.
This Mac nearly choked/crashed after updated to Mavericks, in many ways.
MAYBE all this is really yet more Mavericks issues? ?
I paid dearly to get a computer that SHOULD have been Stably ready to roll; instead, it's caused about 3+ months worth of time-wasting.
This fails as a reliable, stable WORK unit.
Getting vetted, stable software should be easy, but it isn't.
ALL the problems APPEAR to be software issues.
This isn't just a Learning Curve, this is diabolical Sudoku gone horribly wrong!
Microsoft historically, repeatedly, rushed unstable, incomaptible software to users before de-bugging/de-glitching, or issues incomplete licenses to ancillary programs making htem disfunctional:  it's what I've hated MOST about PC's.
IMHO, the contract that conjoined Mac with Microsoft seems to have caused Macs to take on the worst of PC habits.
This MacMess is turning my brain to mush!  Where do I send a BILL to Apple for premature onset of Dementia / Stressed-Brain injuries + Time Lost, related to bad computer software?!
At this rate, I'll never finish a book for publication anywhere, and must fall back on hand-writing forms and reports.

Thanks Peter--it is what I thought [return to Mountain Lion].
    Chi
PS:  Contracts between Microsoft and Apple can be Googled; numerous things come up; could start here:
    http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/RDM.Tech.Q1.07/592FE887-5CA1-4F30-BD62-407362B5 33B9.html
It continued, with variations, later dates.
Using "conjoined" was perhaps, not exactly the correct term.  But that contract changed how Macs operated; dependability has, IMHO [and others], declined, while PC's have gained some bits of dependability.
Macs subsequently started using other processors, instead of Apple hardware--[not knowing how that might change things].
There's been more of Apple rushing software to users prematurely; always a badly played Microsoft trick, for instance.
It has some hints that MS and Apple are becoming more homogenous; that would be sad. It will take longer than this, to accomplish; but this kind of contracts between industry giants, often portend that sort of merge at later date, done in a step-wise manner.  These kinds of things can take years longer than this; meanwhile, users deal with bad products.

  • Did you have buggy Mavericks issue after installing on Macbook Air Mid 2012?

Before I have upgraded my OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.3 to Mavericks 10.9 it runs so smoothly and no issues or hanging that I encounter. But just this morning when I installed Mavericks, I have the following issues:
1.) When I was adding a book(pdf and epud files) in iBook, the Finder malfunctioned, coz when I browse the books to it's location so I can add some more again, the Sidebar icons disappeared and only the names left. And when I go to the location of the files using Finder, the content is nowhere to be found, just a symbol on the window’s status bar that it is loading or busy on something.
2.) When I go to the Launchpad, when I scroll to left and right to find the apps I’m looking using the touchpad, it's not as smooth as before. It tends to halt on sliding to the other groups of apps, seems like there’s a friction stopping it from sliding smoothly all the way to the next group of apps.
3.) Updating the Apps from App Store seems cumbersome like the iPhoto and iMovie, coz when the internet fails or drops its signal for a while or so, you go back and download everything again, and when you hover the mouse to see the progress of the downloaded app, it shows for example 22mb of 1gb then shifted to 300mb of 1gb then back to 22mb of 1gb then back again. It’s not accurate and going berserk.
4.) And I don't know if it is just me, but the screen profile have changed a bit coz the red color of the Power Point icon seem too red and everything that has a hint of red color seems exaggerated, it’s too bright red. I'm just not sure it might be the GUI style of the Mavericks. . .
Anyway, have any of you experienced these kinds of issues on your Macbook Air Mid 2012?
Hopefully this could be fixed and Apple would seed an update in no time.

Even on my MacBook Pro Haswell (2013) 15 inch retina with a GT 750 2gb.
The Things in Mavericks that really make me :
    1. The Launchpad is buggy when i scroll to the left or right... sometimes it doesn't even respond at all.
    2. Safari and Other Apps Like AppStore freez sometimes, and i need to force quit everytime, because its not           responding.
    3. Bootcamp Windows 8.1 <---- NOT 8 Support (Bad Keyboard- Facetime camera- drivers,
Icons (brightness, sound) are ugly on retina screen) + GPU Drivers i can't update (maybe that's normal).
    4. iTunes is very SLOW when Scrolling the Albums (i know its 2880x1800 and that's heavy for GPU) But it's just     not a good 'Experience'.
    5. Gaming its realy good on this MacBook, but please make the drivers better, i know this GT 750 GPU can do           better.

  • Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks (Issues)

    Hi,
We just upgrade from Mac 10.6(Leopard) to 10.9(Mavericks). We have encountered the following issues:
Label with color in the folder – If we click on the label for selected items. The label will applied correctly for folders or files on the earlier version of Mac. But the new version of Mac (Mavericks) does not work this label option.
Taking longer time in Search – In an earlier version, any search will find immediately. But this version of Mac (Mavericks) does not search properly and a result says no item(s). If we go ahead and search again, then the search item will appeared on the Mac.
Copy and Paste option – In an earlier version, the copy and paste option on the server working well. But this version of Mac (Mavericks) we need to try at least 3 to 5 times and then the files/folders will paste into the destination folder. For just do copy and paste it does not work well.
Refresh Folder(s) – The folder(s) does not get refreshed every time on the server. It will only refresh when we create a new folder.
Can you please help me on the issues to resolve in this version of Mac (Mavericks) that is listed out above. I would appreciate if someone response to us immediately.
    John

I didn’t’ see an official statement about this issue.
Can you check that this problem happen on several MAC computer?
Please update Lync for Mac 2011 to the latest version if you didn’t do that.
Check if you can search the full SIP address of a Lync users. This may be a replication issue.

  • InDesign Mavericks Issue 10.9.2

    Hello,
I have a customer that is having a issue printing to 100% of scale after upgrading to Mavericks 10.9.2. The applications this is happening out of is InDesign,Acrobat Reader, and Acrobat Pro as well. They all want to scale to fit the page (rather than 100% scale or at a reduced scale). They are printing on a new Ricoh MPC3503 that is compatible with 10.9.2 Mavericks. Any suggestions or fixes?
    Thanks,
    Bill

This setting is part of the print dialog and must be supported of the used print driver.
Scale to fit page will reduce scale if the PDF will not fit between the printer borders.
You can set the default behaviors in the PDF's document properties, where you can find some settings for printing, if the document is opened in Acrobat or Reader and if the printer driver support this property. If the PDF is opened in another viewer these settings are ignored.

  • Maverick issues forcing change over to Lion or back to a Windows Server!

With all of the Maverick problems that we are having running against the Adobe CC design suite we are thinking about installing a new OSX Lion server in its place. Has anyone switched out their Maverick for Lion and fixed the probs?  We are running on the Mac Mini platform. Adobe CC continues to have layer issues with some graphics files. We now only work on the desktop and not actively connected to the MacMini server running Maverick 10.9.2. Mac now has 10.9.3 in beta with developers but we just dont know if we want to wait and hope that they fix all of the issues that Adobe is having with the Maverick operating system. The funny thing and ironic thing about our situation is that the MacMini server took over for a Windows 2003 server that never had ANY issues with Adobe CC or CS6. As soon as we switched we started having multiple issues forcing us to change how we do everything. Now it is either back to a Windows server or a OSX Lion replacement as we have heard that Lion had none of these issues.
    <Email Edited by Host>

    THIS PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!!
We bought another Mac Mini server and loaded it with OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion with Apple server 2.2 and all of our corruption issues went away. The weird thing is that files cleared up right before our eyes even those that we thought were permanently corrupt. We have been running for a solid week now with no issues. If you are having similar issues this is the way to go. The only problem you may have is with Apple as they did not make it easy for us to obtain the software and a valid key to install it. It seems if they start an issue, with a bad OS, they need to provide better customer service for those who want to step back. This would be considered customer service 101 and greatly appreciated by a loyal customer base.

  • Slow finder indexing, and other Mavericks issue

Since downloading Mavericks i have two issues that have started to become annoying..
When i open a finder window, or when trying to save something, the indexing takes ages. Was always instant in mountain lion..
Also now if i right click an image for example that is an attatchment in mail it brings up the "open with" option but when i hover on it i just get "preview, colorsync and other"
I used to get a list and always had the option of adobe photoshop cs6 ... i now have to click on other everyu time and search through my applications to find cs6. Is there no way of getting it back to a list of options?
I am on an 21 inch iMac. 2.66 core 2 duo with 8 gb 1067 ddr3 memory... mid 2009 iMac if it makes any odds.

@shashinka ;  I'm sorry I did not tell it before but I have maxed out memory RAM on my MacBook (I got 8 GB in total) well before Mavericsk and I also find that is not a memory related problem. Do not be sad and considers that having more memory is almost always a good thing in general (and that you can resell it too).
Another thing i do not mention: I have the same problem on my other Mac ( iMac (21.5-inch Late 2009) ) that had maxed memory too ( 16GB there).
The point is this "systemstas" hog process.
Now I read 6 "I have this question too" : someone else want to add an articulated response ?
I am a little surprised that I did not even have found a single person who does not agree with my post (or even just with my polemical tone). I begin to suspect that here, in the house of the Big Apple, no one is interested in listening to real stories about "customer dissatisfaction", that's simple something that "cant be".

  • Updated to Mavericks Issues with Formatting

Recently updated to Mavericks and Pages will not allow me to use keyboard commands in formatting and in fact doesn't allow me to bold, italicize or underline before typing even when clicking the button beforehand. I have to type my text and then go back and highlight and format. Annoying. Is there anyway to fix this?

All known issues with Pages 5 along with at least 60 others.
The only solution for the foreseeable future is to use Pages '09.
    Peter

  • A fix for Maverick issues?

    any help here?

Is Logic fully upgraded to the current version? It may be necessary to uninstall Logic then reinstall it. You might search the forums for others who have had issues with Logic to see if they found solutions.
    Meanwhile, I would recommend:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).

i've made my way through most threads trying to help decifer some issues. after installing maverick i noticed an immediate stall in performance. thank you for whatever advice you might have, whether it is reverting to a previous OS or upgrading ram.

First, back up all data immediately unless you already have a current backup. If you can't back up, stop here. Do not take any of the steps below.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}' | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • OSX Maverick Issues

Since downloading Maverick months ago, the following have been issues:
    My cursor freezes or disappears
When in FB on Firefox the app freezes
When in FB on Firefox the font is microscopic
When in Firefox the swipe to enlarge the page is non-existent
Is this all because of Maverick (that is when it all started), or is it a FIREFOX issue? Again, it all started AFTER I downloaded OSXMaverick.

Try using Safari to see if you get the same results. If not, that might indicate the problem is Firefox.

  • OS X Mavericks Issue with App Store.

I am using Macbook Pro 17" (late 2011 model). Recently I installed OS X mavericks from App Store. After a month of using I am facing a weird issue. App store, terminal, text edit, ibooks, Maps don't open at all. What shall I do? Fresh Installation?
I dont mind a fresh installation. But thats a 5.6 gigs Installation. Thats not free!

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Download and reinstall the 10.10.1 update.

  • Mavericks Issues: Comodo Free-Antivirus Crashing/Freezing the Whole System and Intuos4 Wireless Bluetooth Not Detecting

Hi. Has anyone successfully run Comodo free-anti-virus for the Mac? It crashes, freezes the whole Mavericks that I need to shut the iMac (late 2009) down using the 5 second power button turn off. It would boot and show the desktop and Dock then the beachball just keeps spining and you can't click the Dock nor the icons on the desktop or use the menu.
Also, the bluetooth Wacom4 Wireless used to work fine on Mountain Lion, now Mavericks can't detect it the Intuos4 is in wireless mode (it works fins when the cable's plugged in). Has anyone successfully run the Intuos4 Wireless with Mavericks?
Thank you in advance. Have a great upcoming sunday mass/great upcoming weekend.
    God bless.

Just get rid of Comodo. It didn't do very well when I tested it back in January:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/mac-anti-virus-testing-01-2013/
As for the Wacom issue, you should probably contact the company to see if they have updated drivers. They're probably not fully compatible with Mavericks, for some reason.

  • Is possible to re-install Mountain Lion after Mavericks issues?

My mac became vary unstable after upgrade. Tech support was helpful but there is more issues now then before. They had me safe mode to check any programs that cause boot failure, safe reair and then reinstall new operating system. Now when it boots Finder goes on a tangent. Keeps asking about do you want to quit last program. All programs that are on the Mac came from the App store. The Mac is 2012 model that ran flawless until upgrade. If I revert to Mountain Lion, will I loose anything that was install earlier? And one other thing, I Cloud wants to be involved in everthing.

To completely restore your system from a Time Machine backup boot OS X Recovery by holding the ⌘ and r keys (two fingers) while you start your Mac.
Once the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, select Restore from Time Machine Backup.
Select the TM backup of your Mountain Lion system prior to upgrading - their backup dates and OS X versions will appear, so you will be looking for the most recent backup of your system when it was running OS X version 10.8.5.
When it completes, your Mac will restart and your previous system state will have been restored.

  • Mavericks issues. Will doing a clean install from Snow Leopard back to Mavericks get rid of the bugs?

I'm using a Mac pro 2008, 10GB RAM (6 after Mavs upgrade), Nvidia 8800 GT.
After Mavs upgrade Chrome crashes when I go to youtube. Tried reinstalling Chrome and
it kept crashing. It even crashes when I open up the preferences. Final Cut X's share menu
doesn't appear. At this point I'll reinstall everything just get my machine running smoothly again.
    Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for your input,
    Update:
I did what benwiggy said to do and created a new user. Chrome worked and FCP's share menu was present.
After Effects won't open ( something about a missing font).
When I go to the original user Chrome and FCP problems persist, and After Effects works fine after a safe boot. Another issue is that of the memory. Before Mavs upgrade it was at 10 GB.

You might search the forums for Office to see if others are reporting any similar problem, and if a solution has been provided.
I would suggest that you fully uninstall all your third-party software, then download the most current versions or upgrades, then reinstall and/or upgrade.
I would then suggest reinstalling Mavericks:
