OS x SERVER AVOID PUBLISH USER FOLDER

Hello, I'm installing Mac OS X Server 3.1.1., I've created all the local users I needed and everything is OK. But when the users connect to the Server, they also connect to their respective  user folder. Is there a way to hide the  local user folder (the "house" folder) so that the network users will not  connect  to it? Thank  you in   advance.

Set up the ACL in the Storage tab of Server.app, then choose Propagate Permissions... from the popup menu with the gear icon.

  • How to publish to an FTB server in iWeb 2 using the File ➙ Publish to Folder option??

I was just given the following advice regarding publishing to an FTP other than MobileMe.
Web 08 does not have that feature (drop down menu to publish from "site" icon).  You will need to upgrade to iWeb 3 in iLife 11 in order to get that feature.  You can get iLife 11 at the online Apple Store while supplies last since iWeb (and iDVD) have been discontinued by Apple
To pubish to an FTB server in iWeb 2 use the File ➙ Publish to Folder menu option and then use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck to upload the site files.
Follon-on question, can anyone provide more details on how to do exactly what was suggested?  I toyed with it and can only get it to publish to a folder on my desktop, but not to an external FTP.  (I have already purchased a web-host package, just need to publish to it!)

Okay.  When you publish your site from iWeb to a local folder what you will get is one site folder - this site folder will have the same name as you gave your site in iWeb and one separate index.html file.
Your site folder contains an index.html file as well as the separate index.html file.  You NEED both.
What you need to do is firstly using Cyberduck or whatever, upload your site folder to your host into whatever folder you need to upload to on the server - could be 'public_html', 'htdocs' or whatever - this is your root folder.
You then need to upload your separate index.html file to your server too, but this index file needs to sit outside your site folder because it needs to point in towards the index.html file that is in your site folder - this is the first page of your site.
You don't delete or duplicate any index files - iWeb produces the two index files that you need when you publish to a local folder - one index file in the site folder itself and one separate index file that sits outside the site folder and points into the first page of your site.
Also, remember to call the first page of your site something like Home or Welcome, but DO NOT name it index.
By the looks of things here you have not uploaded your index files correctly.
What I would suggest that you do is start over - so open Cyberduck and connect to your server and go and delete your site folder and your other index file if it is still there.
Go back to iWeb and publish to a local folder again and notice that you have both your site folder and separate index.html file.
Now go and open Cyberduck again and connect to your server and note where you need to upload your files to.
Now go and upload your Site Folder to your server and once this has finished go back and upload your separate index.html file, but this needs to sit outside your site folder.  If you do this, then your site should display okay - as long as your other index file is pointing into to the first page of your site it should display correctly.

  • 2008 R2 Terminal Server large Local User Profile Folder; C:\ drive size fluctuation

    Hey Guys,
Have an interesting issue I'm currently working with and starting to scratch my head.  I inherited this server so many things I'm still discovering.
This is TS 2008 R2 SP1, with very basic setup; Microsoft, Firefox, IE, and Adobe. I currently have many users, but only these two user profiles that have large folders. (all the space is taking out by C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Microsoft). Each folder orbiting
around 23.6GB taking 89% of the C:\ drive. Once I discovered it, I applied folder redirection policy to move all the content of the user folder's to the large drive; P:\TSProfiles\ottc01
However, the actual C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Microsoft folder still there and looks like it cannot be moved. It's almost like every instance of windows OS and Microsoft Office duplicated and resides on each user's local profile. Plus, the C:\ drive
space fluctuates and goes up and down, every time user logs on and off.
So, I'm curious is to how to correct this issue and why only these two users have such a large profiles? I can provide more info if needed, just let me know.
    Thanks everyone for their time.

    Hi,
On current situation, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

In addition, this issue seems to be more related to terminal service. I also suggest that you would post this question in
Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) Forum. I believe we will get a better assistance there.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I remove "other users" folder in mail and on my iPhone

On one account only I have "other users" folder that lists all of the folders of every user on the server. On my iphone I have to scroll past pages of other user folders to get to any folder named with anything after "O"
Does anyone know how to get the server to stop showing "other users" in both mail and iphone mail?

Unfortunately that is really the only work around since
Comcast uses POP3 and not IMAP like Gmail or
    iCloud.
I had received an email quite some time ago that they
were beta testing IMAP with select customers but I doubt
if it has gone much further than that.

  • How to avoid multiple users accessing same test data via parameterization in LR??

i am using LR11.5, i have the following test data:
    TestData
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
when i run this script from Controller with 3 users LR picks it as user1->1, user2->1, user3->1
    How do i achieve this case: user1->1, user2->2, user3->3 ??
    Any help would be great.

I have a related question. i created 2 websites/domains then i went to users and created 2 seperate "network" users then i went to ftp and selected each website and added only user A to site A and user B to site B. what's weird is that when i try to ftp using either of the users it seems to land on the same site. i looked at shared security for the folders and it only shows user a on site a folder and user b on site b folders. am i doing somehitng wrong or is this how it works in mountain lion server? i just want to give the domain owner ftp access so they can manage their files and only thier files. i also had to turn on open directory so that it would not create a local user but a network user. do i need to turn that off and just deal with having a bunch of local users as ftp user? i want to host multiple websites on the server and NO users remote on to server besides ftp.
edit 1: i only have 1 IP running on the server which i don't think it has any affect on this but thought i mention it :-)
edit 2: i just noticed one more thing that may help. i used filezilla to remote in using both users, one at a time. it seems to allow both users in but then it shows same directories. i then created a file using the one that was not supposed to have acces and it never sows up. but if i remote desktop to server i can see the new file in the correct folder. so it may have something to d o with the directory listing.

  • How best to move user folder to a Mac Mini + external drive

I am streamlining my desktop computer setup. Whereas before I was using a PowerMac G5 as my primary desktop computer, I realize I am using my MacBook Pro more often, so in the interests of conserving space, I will be switching over to a Mac Mini connected to my AV system for hosting all my iTunes music, videos, media, photos, etc.
Here is where I need advice. My PowerMac has a lot more media on it than can fit on the internal hard drive of a Mac Mini. I have already secured a 1 TB external drive which will be permanently connected to the Mac Mini, but I am unsure as to how to best go about copying my data to it.
My initial thought was that I could move the iTunes music folder to the external drive using the library consolidation feature, and I could copy my iPhoto library to it, then point the respective applications to the new location. However, I want the external to act as my home folder where the OS looks for all my personal data, including movies, documents, etc.
I know there is a procedure for changing your home folder's location to an external drive, but because of the limited size of the Mac Mini's internal HD, I would like to use migration assistant when I first start using the Mac Mini. Should I hold off on moving the home folder until after I have migrated, or can it be done beforehand?
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!

Thanks for the procedure. It seems very easy, but I am wondering about the consequences depending on when I do it. For example, let's say I first copy my entire home folder to the 1 TB external drive, set up the PowerMac to use it as my home folder, then use migration assistant to import my user accounts, applications, and settings onto the Mac Mini. Will it try to extract the data from the external drive onto the Mac Mini's internal drive? There won't be enough room for everything.
As an alternative, I can move my iTunes library and iPhoto library onto the 1 TB external first, keeping the rest of my user data in its original location. Then it can fit on the Mac Mini, and I can do the migration, then move the home folder to the 1TB external once it's all up and running on the new computer.
    Which will work best?
I had heard about people using a single drive as their home folder across multiple computers, but that is not the case for me. My MacBook Pro will become my primary computer, but I intend to keep it clear of media, whereas the MacMini will become my media server for my AV system in my living room. The 1 TB will be constantly connected to the Mac Mini, so there shouldnt be a problem with starting it up once the user folder location has been moved.

  • How do I move the /Users folder to another disk

I have a shiny new MacPro, dual proc, with four, one TB hard drives in it, running OS X Server on Mountain Lion.  The first disk is the startup drive, the other three are simply empty, partitioned drives.
I am to be the sysadmin for this machine (and a half dozen Macbook Pros) for my organization.  I don't want user data to exist on the startup disk on this machine.  Right now, the only user that exists is my sysadmin account.  I want the three non-startup hard disks to hold the user data.  I think that what I want to do is map the /Users folder to one (or all) of the other three hard disks, and get that data off of the startup disk.
How do I change the location of the /Users folder?
Assuming this is possible, or desirable, the next question would be about RAID.  I have not created any RAID arrays using disk manager yet (this Mac Pro does not have a RAID card).
Should I first create a concatenated RAID set from the three additional disks?  I see no advantage to striped or mirrored sets, I will have a HUGE external drive for TimeMachine, and disk access speed is just fine.  But, I think I'd want drives 2, 3, and 4 to act as one big drive.  I think the concatenated RAID set is the answer to that.
    Thank you,
    Jess

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4337

With drives of 2, 3 or 4TB now why use three and the one time I used Apple's concatenate, no I didn't like the way it made use of drives. So I would either stripe or mirror, and maybe not even  using  Apple Disk Utility.

  • Mail says can't get more mail user folder full.

i have been getting this message often and had found a suggestion on removing an envelope in the mail folder which I did and it seemed to have solved the problem for a couple of weeks. I can easily get 600 emails a days, different mac email groups that I subscribe to and there are time I don't get to my mail for 3 or four days and never get the message. I logged on this morning and there was the message that I had to much mail and needed to remove mail or make space in my user folder. I closed down mail came back up went off line and I only had 115 emails in my primary account and 28 emails in my hotmail account. I checked he three trashes and had 471 total item in all trash folders.
What is going on.. how do I fix this. Are other people experiencing this same problem? It seems to have come about around 10.4.6 and the security update about that time.

A couple of years ago I received a batch of emails that I had
already received, and read, about 18-24 months earlier. Where were
they all that time? Why did Earthlink send them to me again after that
    long delay?
I don't believe Earthlink sent these again since any messages available on the server are downloaded from the server by an email client such as the Mail.app.
What is your setting in Mail for removing messages from the server when downloaded which is available at Mail > Preferences > Accounts under the Advanced tab for the account preferences?
I don't believe this is an issue with what occurred here. More than likely, this was caused by corruption to the account's Inbox mailbox and these messages already downloaded from the server and removed from the server when downloaded reappeared in the account's Inbox mailbox only as new unread messages which were not properly or completely deleted (if these messages were previously deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox) or not properly or completely removed if some or all of these messages were transferred to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox.
How often do you use the Rebuild Mailbox function on the most active mailboxes such as the account's Inbox and Sent mailbox?

  • Does my iDisk website folder have the same contents as the folder created with Publish to Folder?

Should I make a back up of the website folder on iDisk?  Is this folder the same as the Domain.sites2 folder in the Library?
Is it the same as the folder that's created when I click Publish to Folder in iWeb?  It's so confusing - from where should I save, copy, or backup
my website?  Thanks for clearing this up.

The folder on iDisk is the published files - the Domain.sites2 has the unpublished data.
The published files on the iDisk aren't much use to you since you need to republish your site to a new server directly from iWeb or via a local folder and FTP.

  • Any reason NOT to create subfolders under user folder?

I'm switching over from a 5+ year old MacBook Pro to a new one. I do a lot of audio recording and production work. On my old machine, which was my first Mac, I created a subfolder 'Recordings' under my user folder (let's say it's named "bob"). I don't remember why I did that. Probably I was thinking well, this stuff isn't documents.
On the new machine, running Yosemite, I discovered that Apple in it's wisdom had made my "bob" user folder hidden, which meant I had to go figure out how to show it because there are some audio plugin settings files I needed to add manually from the old machine into my user/ Library area. Did that.
BUT... I'm wondering if there is some reason why Apple changed the user folder to hidden (other than "you dumb users don't need to know about this stuff"), and specifically, if I should avoid creating any subfolders under my user folder? I would really rather not have my 'Recordings' folder  inside the Documents folder, but I guess I can if there's some good reason not to create subfolders under 'bob'.
    Thanks in advance.

They didn't make it hidden (like the Library sub folder), but I believe it is no longer included in the sidebar by default. Probably for the reason you state. As you've found, you can add it back through Finder Preferences menu.

  • Mess in Users folder - please help!!

    Hey
My name is Fabrice, and the name of the man who previously owned the computer (PB G4, os X version 10.11 was called Pankaj. I tried to rename the admin (the one with a little house icon, I guess it's called the root?) in the "users" folder from Pankaj to Fabrice because it was annoying me (especially when I connect to other networks and people look for Fabrice but only find Pankaj). To do so I clicked on the name near the little house icon in Mac/users/ and renamed it, but there was already a blue folder in /users/ with Fabrice, so to avoid conflict I renamed the house folder with "Fabrice Familyname". When I restarted the computer, all my preferences were gone, the dock prefs and the wallpaper alike, there was nothing on the desktop, etc. Nothing had been deleted but when I went to mac/users/ there was now three "users": the house icon was still called "Pankaj" (22gb), and there were two blue folders :the "Fabrice" folder (3gb) and the "Fabrice Familyname" (blue) folder (330mb). I found some of my preferences that were missing, for example all the firefox preferences that I really need back, in the "Fabrice Familyname" folder. In the Users section of System Preferences, though, there is just "Fabrice" - no other choice.
So, okay, I did something I shouldnt have. Now I can't even connect to my own house's wireless internet connection because god knows where I have the codes written down, and they're among the misplaced prefs.
1)-Why are some of my personal files in the "Fabrice Familyname" folder?
2)-How can I go back to my previous settings, and just know where they are? It just seems strange that some personal files are in the 300 mb folder while the other one is 3 gb.
I really need to have my Firefox preferences back, of all things, but it seemed when I replaced the Firefox folder in the Application Support folder that had firefox default settings with the one with my personal settings, that after restarting the folder was a default one again.
And how about my wireless internet codes?
I feel like it's going to be a real headache solving this, so if anyone could help it would be wonderful! Maybe I just need to backup the "Fabrice" folder that's 3gb and then delete it?
Waiting for a reply I think I'll go back everything up on CDs, the whole 30 gigs... lots of fun ahead, but I'm just too afraid if I moved the users folder with default settings to the trash it would do something bad.
Please help me if you know what I did stupid and how to undo!

  • IIS Server / Ftp Isolation user not working in Windows 2008 R2

    HI,
Please help as last time when we are still using the Server 2003 we don't have issue with the IIS virtual directory, what I mean is when the user log in there username and password they can only see directly their folder but when we already shift to server
2008 everytime we log in we can able to see other users folder , of course even I try to open other users folder they cant able to access only what belongs to me.  I hope we can still do like last time, we can only see our own folder in file explorer.
    Please help..
    Thanks,

    Hi,
As the permissions on IIS virtual directory are not similar with the permissions on windows file systems, I suggest you ask for help from IIS7 forum for better and accurate answer to the question.

  • Users folder on CAS

I saw the posts from others regarding the Users folder on a CAS server. I understand that these folders are written when users log on through OWA and change their password; however I didn't see an answer to the question as to whether or not these folders
can be deleted. I would think that since the folders are empty, deleting them would be alright; but want to clarify first.
    Thanks
    Mary Cato

    Hi Mary,
Yes, if users log on via OWA and change their password, the users' profiles will be created on the CAS server in this folder. It is not recommended to delete this folder.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • OSX Server - Advanced FTP users policies

Hi, I need to ask a pretty simple thing, that for servers should be quite straight forward.
On OSX Server (ver.2.2.2) I can't find any advanced ftp management console. What I mean is that i have let's say three users:
    User "A": Administrator
    User "B": Project Manager 1
    User "C": Project Manager 2
    User "D": End User
    Folder 1, Folder 2, Folder 3 and Folder 4
User A should see and manage all of them (read+write)
User B should see and manage F1 ("F" stands for folder) and F2 (let's say he's in charge of those two projects)
User C should manage F3 and F4 (but no access to F1 and F2)
User D should only read F4.
I thought this was a reasonably obvious thing to have in the app, although I couldn't find any of these things. Maybe that's just me, but seriously I was thinking as this was an obvious feature for an app called "Server" that has FTP-server features.
Is there any way I can do that?

I thought the exact same thing but apparently not. I ended up having to install PureFTP to get this type of management. I was dissapointed in Apple on this as I was hoping for a GUI. You CAN do this through the command prompt if I'm not mistaken, but just need to google it.

  • All user folder icons showing as generic folder icon

    Hi all,
I have an issue where all the folders in my User folder are the generic folder icon (e.g. not the pictures, music, desktop specific ones etc).
This seems to not just be in my user area, but an issue with Finder, as when viewing my Mac mini's folders from my iMac (the iMac is the one with the issue), the icons look generic also.  But on the Mac mini itself they're fine.

This only happens on the dock, when I set the managed preferences in WGM to show dock items like group folders applications folder, even the network home icon, (the little house), all these icons appear as question marks. If I follow this path from the sidebar like this:
    network->servers->myserver->users->documents
    or
I see that the users are saving their work on the server, this is really puzzling me!By the way, these are eMacs running 10.4.8.
This also may sound kiind of weird but when I click on managed preferences in dock items to add a group's folder and check the box an old folder from a deleted group comes up and not the group folder of that particular folder.
