OSD media creation, associated management points list empty.

I have an installation of SCCM 2012 R2. I'm trying to create task sequence media.  I start the create task sequence media wizard, select bootable media, next, dynamic media, next, enter a media file location for CD/DVD set, next, uncheck protect media
with a password, next, select the desired boot image and distribution point. Then when I click add for associated management points, the list comes back empty.
I have two site servers.  Both are MPs.  Any idea what I can check or change? I didn't set this environment up, but it looks correct. Would the https certificate on the MP cause this?

Have you checked this one?

That's really annoying. I searched for a solution for like half an hour and that never came up.  I really appreciate it.  That solved it.  Thanks!

  • Manage Passwords List Empty

Starting about 1 week ago all of the passwords in my "Manage Password" list under client security are gone.  I know I didn't back them up, so I started to enter some of the passwords back fully intent when I had at least 10 or 15 passwords to back it up.  4 days later the list of 3 or 4 passwords is gone again.  Any body know why the list is getting wiped out?  Any ideas how I can stop it from getting wiped out?
I am  using XP SP 2, Explorer 7.0, and I use Avast for my Anti Virus.  I don't download anything, however I don't think I have downloaded a virus.  I checked the add ons and Thinkvantage Center is still there.  I do not know what the problem here could be.  Any help would be appreciated
    Thank you

Have you found any solution? Suddenly my Password manager was empty too. I had all my passwords saved here, but now they are all gone. I'm not able to register new passwords either, even if I fill out the necessary fields when prompted. Any clues?

  • PXE boot OSD connects to Internet-only Management Point. A bug?

So here is the deal: SCCM registers the Management Points to be used in DPs PXE in a Registry file, it is done in alphabetical order (or install order), so all PXE boots will always connect to the first MP (Microsoft, WTF?). In my case, the first is an INTERNET
ONLY MP, why would PXE Booted OSD connect to that? Brrr..
Solution is to edit the registry, put the MPs in the right order and then it works like a charm.. until some SCCM maintenance task overwrites it with the default MP list, including internet only MP as first.
MPs don't respect boundaries and I cannot just block the ports (OSD will be slow, it first tries to connect to the internet MP, times out, then uses the next one).
    A) This behaviour is a bug. PXE Boot should NEVER connect to Internet Only MP (OSD is not supported for IBCM).
    B) Does anybody know what maintenance overwrites the DPs registry key "ManagementPoints"?
I cannot just use one MP. All external MPs are configured for internet only, internal MPs are configured intranet only.
    Ideas?

The distribution manager on the site server is the component that populates the MP list on the registry of DP/PXE.
Dist mgr currently writes all the MPs and does not filter-out the internet-facing MPs.
Even if you manually edit the registry on the DP, dist mgr will over-write it the next time it updates the DP. You can try to put an ACL on the registry key which prevents the site server from updating it. However, the DP will never get updated by the site
    for other things.

  • Calling back with empty distribution points list

    Hello
We are running sccm 2012 R2 cu0 and encounter a strange behavior regarding users not able to use the software catalog.
    Some background :
We setup primary site and 3 DPs while running sccm 2012 sp1, then upgrade ro R2, then cu0
then we setup 10 DPs and start deploying clients.
All Clients looks well configured using the "Configuration Manager". All packages are replicated onto those DPs (except ms updates so far)
Clients that are assigned to boundaries linked to the 3 DP made while running sccm 2012 sp1 are running smoothly. They can use the apllication catalog
The one that are assigned to site where dp have been build with R2 cu0 can't use catalog.
They all got this message in the :
    LocationService.log on the clients

Ad schema is ok, boundaries and boundary groups also.
I compare new DP vs "old" ones and there is no difference in the configuration.
I looked at some logs but didn't found any relevant information.
I also read all similar post but none looks "similar" to our configuration
If someone can "guide" me to troubleshoot this, it will be appreciate.
Feel free to ask for any information
    Thanks

    Hi,
Could you please use IP ranges instead of your boundary to test whether
    the clients could get DPs?
If this could work, there should be a problem with the boundary of AD sites.

I am so confused right now. I have searched everywhere for a solution to no avail. I have a brand new Mac Pro 2.7 Ghz 12-core intel Xeon e5 with 32 gigs of ram. I installed Reelsmart's Motion blur and when I tried to re-open After Effects I got an After Efects Alert that reads.

  • "Site-Based" Boot Media Works / "Dynamic" Boot Media Gives "MP Location Returned an Empty Site Code"

    Good Morning Guys -
This morning we had some issues testing OSD builds.  We used a USB drive we made into boot media a few days ago to boot up an "Unknown Computer."  After clicking the initial "Next," we got the error
0x80004005 instead of no task sequences being listed.
I tried re-creating the media (Dynamic), but still got the same error.  After research, I re-created the media once more with the same settings - except - used "Site-Based" instead of "Dynamic" and it worked as I am now
displayed a list of task sequences to run.
Why would "Site-Based" media work and "Dynamic" media not?
Below are some environment details as well as other things I examined...
Primary server is remote to location, but do have a local secondary
Boot Image Config I used on all 3 times I tried above:
              - Boot Image: Selected Image
              - Distribution Point - Selected Local Secondary
              - Management Point - Selected Primary Server (only option)
IP was retrieved on machine via DHCP.  After opening a command prompt, I could ping both primary and secondary servers
Verified machine's IP (via DHCP) was in a boundary (It's Subnet was entered).  Boundary was assigned to the proper local secondary
In the log file, there was only a couple of lines which noted errors (besides PXE which we don't use)
Here is the smsts.log file just in case - names were changed for security...
    Any ideas?  Thank Guys!
    Ben K.

We are running into the same frustrating issue.  We inject our PKI ConfigMgr Client Certificate to Boot-able media as instructed on TechNet because we use HTTPS to connect to site servers.  I'm only presented with the primary site server when creating
either a Dynamic or Site based Boot CD.  When we boot the CD in remote location, we get the same errors in smsts.log
I would assume that when the system boots to WinPE, it queries the main Primary Site, which then redirects the system to the appropriate secondary site or DP.
Should i have the option to select one of the secondary management points when creating the boot-able media?

  • New Applications model DOES NOT work with StandAlone OSD media

If you are able to create StandAlone OSD media, the new Applications model DOES NOT work with it.
    - The creation of the media will be successful
    - The application installation itself will be successful
Yet after the application is installed, it shows the correct process it needs to complete based on the return code in AppEnforce log, but does not process that information back to the the TS Manager so it appears to attempt to download a policy which fails
causing the task sequence to error out..
    Thanks,
    Squirre1

It is very similar to this description:
    http://madluka.wordpress.com/2012/05/15/error-0x8000405-when-installing-applications-to-a-workgroup-system-during-build-and-capture-task-sequence/
It is using the application model, since it is not attached to the domain it is on a workgroup. But it is on standalone media and not during a build and capture sequence, it is during an OSD. But alot of the same puzzle pieces fit. Basically pointing to
the new applications model not working during standalone OSD when the MP is not available. i would say that not enough information is getting encapsulated into the Application when exported onto the StandAlone media.

  • Outboxes/Stat.box backlog on Management Points

I have an SCCM infrastructure with a number of management points.  I am having a problem where clients are not reporting the status of their software distribution back to the primary site.  The software seems to install properly, but the deployment
has no status messages after the deployment was originally created.  Under Deployment Status, they all read "Status information is currently unavailable for this deployment".  I have tried to "Run Summarization" but no change.
I looked closed at my management points and I see that the outboxes/stat.box folder is filled with MTMP files.  If I open the files with Notepad it looks like these are related to the deployments as they have a package ID and a program name in them.
I do not see any errors in my log files for the MP though.  Everything looks like it is churning properly, but these files just keep stacking up.
I am having a lot of trouble finding any documentation on this particular outbox or the files themselves.  Can anyone point me to a flowchart that depicts what this process looks like and the associated log files?  Any assistance would be appreciated.

There is only one entry in the view where the FeatureType = 2 (software deployment I believe) where there are success or inProcess values.  Everything else shows NumberUnknown = NumberTotal.  Other deployments for OSD (FeatureType = 7) show properly
and Software Updates (I think, FeatureType = 5) are showing numbers for Success and In Process.  It looks like the problem may just be with status messages on software deployments.

  • Recovery Media Creation no longer available on New laptop

I have just received a new G255 laptop.  First thing I did was try to create recovery media. HP Recovery Manager states "Create a set of recovery media for your system (Recovery Partition has been removed - The Recovery media creation option is no longer Available)
It also states Recovery Partition has been removed, but there is a Recovery (D drive showing with 2.14GB free of 19.6 GB
The recovery partition, when clicked on is empty, even after making hidden files show.
Is there any way to get recovery media, ot should i return the laptop?

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC 15-n235sa and when trying to create my Recovery Media Creation on a 32GB Flash drive it comes up with the error mesage We are experiencing errors in recovering media creation. Please try again.
This is after.46% of Verify Disk section. So it is almost there.
I have tried 4 or 5 times with the same result.
    Help!

Please try another USB Flash Drive or DVDs. USB Flash Drives indicating Windows 8 compatibility may not work for creating the recovery image. If you are still unable to create your HP Recovery Media, please contact official HP support in your region / country, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal, to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer. When you request this media, indicate that it is free because the HP Recovery Manager failed to work properly.

  • HP Recovery media creation troubles-Can't run

    Hi,
I have a hp pavilion dv6 notebook, operation with windows 7 64bits. I'm trying to create a recovery media with a usb drive, i followed the recovery instructions given by HP support. The creation began and everything was fine, till the step of device verification, there's an error message at 31%. The message is:
" we are experiencing errors in recovery media creation. please try again"
I tried again, but same result.
I tried to change the "User account control settings" to "nevery notify" as recommended by HP recovery process instructions, but same result.
In hp recovery manager, the system recovery option can not be highlighetd (Disabled: please use recovery media to recover your system).
Trying to look for a solution in forums, I found that trying to create the media in safe mode can resolve the problem, so tried it. When i run the HP recovery media creation under safe mode, its window is displayed with front screen saying: "Please insert battery. Battery must be installed and the computer must be connected to the power adapter to continue this process". I wish to specify that my battery is inserted and the power adapter too. So why it tells me that ???!!!!
I tried to reactivate (D:Recovery) volume, but it is  not highlighted, so I can't do it.
Trying to run recovery process by pressing F11 at startup, give me a windows boot manager screen with the follonwing:
"windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. to fix the problem:
    1.insert windows installation discand restart.
2.choose language. 3. repair your computer.
if you do not have this disc. contact system administrator or computer manufacturer for assisatnec.
    File: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0x0000225
info: an error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data."
Tell me please how to create my recovery usb drive in this case, to finally recover my computer to factory state because I think I have a serious problem with it, specialy startup.
The disk management  tell me that all the computer partitions are healthy and dynamic, all are NTFS, except HP_Tools which is FAT32. I also created a partition (F of 440 Go/910 Go when I bought the laptop. In case it May help...
    Thank you in advance

When you created the extra partition your hdd was converted from Basic to Dynamic_which breaks the Recovery partition function. It also breaks the ability to create Recovery Media from the partition.
You will need to use Disk Management to delete the extra partition. You will also need to convert the hdd back to Basic- which will require a little more work.
Use Option 1 here to convert to Basic:

  • Management point location for workgroup clients in DMZ

    Hi All,
I am trying to install the SCCM 2012 client to some servers that are located in a workgroup and in a DMZ at our organization.
I have read up about the config for this and I think that we have everything in place but the clients themselves are not locating a management point which I think is due to the setup of the IIS on the management points.
Firstly, I ammended the local hosts file on the system to ensure that the server could resolve the SCCM site server and 2 management points by using NetBIOS and FQDN. I also checked that the ports are opened from the client to the
    management point.
I then ran ccmsetup using the following switches /noservice /mp=smsmp SMSSITECODE=XXX SMSSLP=SMSMP FSP=SMSSITESERVER CCMHTTPPORT=24555 CCMHTTPSPORT=24556 RESETKEYINFORMATION=TRUE which appers to have sucessfully installed the client
but is now failing to communicate with the MP specified. I am seeing on the client the following repeated in the locationservices.log
    <![LOG[Raising event:

    x.x.x.x HEAD / - 24555 - x.x.x.x SMS+CCM+5.0 - 401 2 5 216 0
I understand that this points to the IIS authentication issue so I have tried browsing to http://smsmp.domainname.com/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist and
I do get a list of management points returned so I'm a little confused now. The other thing that confuses me is that we also have another domain we manage clients
in and these systems have all registered with the MP fine even though there is no trust relationship in place between the 2 domains.
I have checked anonymous authentication has been enabled on the SMS_MP virtual directory but I can see that it is set to use a user account of IUSR, but this is not a local user on the MP nor an AD user from what I can see.
Is anybody able to point me in the correct direction of either what I am doing wrong or which settings I should be checking?
Thanks in advance for any help
    Andrew

You mention in your ccmsetup install properties: CCMHTTPPORT=24555 CCMHTTPSPORT=24556
While the MPList test you provided shows:
    http://smsmp.domainname.com/sms_mp/.sms_aut?mplist
    This is on port 80
Where is your MP? Port 80 or 24555 ?

  • Add Site System Roles (Management Point)

To resolve an issue I was having with the management point role I have removed it.
I left it for an hour and then restarted the server and the role had been removed. When I tried to re-add the role the option is greyed out. I believe this is due to the Server being the primary site but am finding it hard to get any definitive answer on
    how to re-add the role.
Currently my site has no management point.
My question is HOW DO I RE-ADD THE ROLE OF "MANAGEMENT POINT"?
Will the configuration management setup wizard allow me to do this, whilst retaining the current roles and config?

I thought it was a permissions issue at first to. Signed into the server with the service account used to install SCCM and also explicitly named my domain account as a local admin despite me being a domain admin. Furthermore, I have access to remove the
roles from the server and permission to add and remove roles to all other servers.
    Adding role
In management console Administration>Site Configuration>Servers and Site System Roles
This bring up the list of servers and when left clicked their roles. I right click on the server in question and the option to "add site system roles" is greyed out as are the sub-options under start and the option to delete.
Will screen shot in the morning

  • How to assign clients to alternate management point

    Hi Guys
Does anyone know how to reassign clients to another management point on the same site.
We have 3 seperate locations connected by a vpn, our main site has a primary site server with the management point role and the other 2 locations are just distribution and management point servers.
I have built another distribution /management point server as the primary server site location as i want to take some of the roles of the primary site server as its overloaded, all my clients at this site are already assigned to the primary site server management
point but want to assign them to the new distibution/management point at the same site.
Was going to uninstall the management point role of the primary site server so that just my new server would have this role at this location, if i do this will the cleints automatically assign themself to the only available management point at this site
    or will they break.

The clients always request a list of available MPs. If you deinstall a MP it will not be on that list anymore, so the clients will automatically go to another available MP.
