OSS Dependency / Impact Analysis

Hi,
While implementing OSS Notes, i frequently run into pre-requisite notes, which in turn have other dependent notes.
Unfortunately, there is no way to know upfront the list of dependent notes and objects involved by applying any single note.
SNOTE prompts you along the path of dependent notes only when you attempt applying the note. There is no simulation mode.
Hence, one cannot do any kind of meaningful impact analysis.
For example, i may want to implement a OSS note to fix a single Class method or Function module. However, the interdependcies end up changing 20-30 other objects. This then creates all kinds of side effects, which need to be resolved by applying more notes.
This expands the scope of the problem. necessiating regression tests for many teams.
Manually anticipating dependencies or doing impact analysis is painful. Are there any tools to make this easier ?.
Regards,
Jon

Hi Jon, Kristen,
Without a doubt, It would be great to add to the list fo notes another list of notes that correct some side effects. If you are proposing a list of nptes to solve a problem, it doesn't make sense to propose a note as solution that has known side effects without warning.
e.g. The following list corresponds to a note search done by ANST:
Note       Title   Side Effect Prerrequisites
XXXXXXX Title 1   No           Yes(4)
YYYYY  Title 2   Yes(3)      Yes(1)
Double clicking would take you to the list of notes that correct the side effects. Same with prerrequisites.
Although I'm currently disengaged from the ANST team, I have discussed the idea witrh the software logistics team that currently maintain ANST and I hope we can see this feature in the future ANST.
Another proposal to add to the SAP correction notes (Implementation effort: Low, Medium, High)
Thanks a lot for your ideas,Jon!
Thanks a lot for notifying, Kristen!
Carlos.

  • Oracle Data Modeler - Impact Analysis option

    Hi
I am using Oracle Data Modeler 3.1.0683 and reversed engineering my existing relational models to logical models. I have 3 relational models and reverse engineering it to 1 logical model.
In logical model under enity's propoerties -> impact analysis how do I add which relational table the logical entity depends on? For example in relational models i have table Class, Student, teacher in 3 separate relation model. Logical i created entity Person which depends on table Student from relational model 1, and teacher from relational model 2, I want to view(add) these tables under "Impact Analysis".
    The help window says
    <quote>
    +"Impact Analysis+
+Enables you to view and specify information to be used by Oracle Warehouse Builder for impact analysis."+
    </quote>
Though i couldnt figure out where to specify?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Lahoria

So any suggestions how can I bring those table ( as i mentioned in original post) to show up in Impact AnalysisIf your entity is result of reverse engineering from relational model then you can find related table under mappings. The same if you engineer logical model to relational model.
If you start from column then you can see related attribute in logical model and usage in data flow diagrams and dimensional models

  • Data Federator data lineage and impact analysis

    Hi,
I am looking for the use of data lineage and impact analysis feature in data federator at Universe level.
Can I know which objects are using which fields by uisng impact feature in the data federator.
    Thanks in Advance.

I realize this answer is a cop out but I'll suggest it anyway. Upgrade.
I struggled with getting the lineage and impact analysis working in 10.1 and had to do quite a bit of trial and error in the Apache configuration files, DAD's ,etc. because the lineage reports were web based. I never got them working in Production due to other much more pressing implementation issues at the time and never went back to fix them.
In 10.2 and above the reports are much easier to get with no real configuration needed.
Anyway, back to your question, I would suggest going back through the 10.1 documentation on getting those to work and have someone a bit familiar with setting up Apache help you. I did get them working in our Test environment but its been so long I can't recall all the steps and tricks, sorry.

  • Impact Analysis: How to trace which objects and tables used in a report?

Impact Analysis: How to trace which Webi objects and tables used in a report?
Currently, our company have been using BO Webi as our ad-hoc and reporting tool for over a year now.  Past several months, we've been pushing our power users to develop their own report, and started to notice that we loss track off which data (tables, columns, ... , BO objects) being used where and by whom.   The BI team now spend more time tracing through reports manually, instead of designing Universe.
After consulted with our local  SAP  technical sale, they said the only solution is to buy BO's ETL (Data Integration) and
Metadata Management tool, which price starting from $300K per CPU.  I suppose that is NOT the right solution; however, we have not found one yet.  Some executives believe Cognos (now by IBM) would provide a better BI solution as we scale.
If anyone know, please provide (1) Impact Analysis method: How to trace which Webi objects and tables used in a report? and (2) Does Cognos provide better impact analysis method without a heavy spending?
    Thank you very much,
    Ed

    EdPC-SCB,
    have you tried enabling auditing?
    - Yes, audit log only shows user's activities which isn't useful for us. Please let us know any audit log that might be helpful .
For most of the servers listed in the CMC there is an "Audit" tab.  I'd say if you have the disk space in your database for Auditor available, then if in doubt turn it on (at least for a while) to see if it exposes what you are seeking to find out --that'd be the quickest way.  The documentation (xir2_bip_auditor_en.pdf) doesn't offer much in helping you to see a correlation between ticking on an Audit option in a Server and how it will populate in the Auditor DB -- most of us just hunt and peck until we get what we want.  Once you have the good stuff in each of the Servers ticked on you'll be able to track down which report recieves which object.  To help youself out initially, you should run every report that you can find so Auditor will get seeded.
    thanks,

In deed I have a Transport Request in which I can see number of BW Objects like Info objects, Info packages, Info cubes, ODS , Query Elements, Transfer rules,....... some objects are already trasported to the production system even then those objects are attached to the request because of some changes made to them.
Now let me know If an object which is already present in Production system can be re transported with some changes in the object or not ?
Will there any impact on the Production system?

  • Upgrade to 12.1.2- impact analysis

We are doing a technical analysis and comparison with our 12.0.6 instance vs the new 12.1.2 instance
Can someone point me in the direction of documentation that might help in analyzing the impact of this upgrade from a Technical standpoint? I am researching the impact on CEMLIs and other objects.
    Thanks

I do not believe there is a document that provides impact analysis. In the past, we have had to do this on our own, using a combination of -
    1. a schema-by-schema comparison between the old and new versions (using a tool like TOAD or SQL Developer) and
    2. reading thru the RCDs that describe the changes between the old and new versions (see MOS Doc 561580.1 - "Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Release Content Documents" for your specific version)
Pl be aware that if the schema comparison reports no changes, it does not necessarily mean that everything in the new version will work as it did in the old - Oracle has been known to create new objects (tables. views etc) in the new version while continuing to retain the same objects from the old version, even though they are not being used in the new version.

  • BAM Impact analysis report

One of my customer wonder do we have legacy systems performance impact analysis, best practice or customer case regarding our BAM solution. Hello, Oracle 9iAS is not needed.
    Some random questions:
Have you got a DAD set up in Oracle Web Server for you repository (I assume it is named owb_repos)?
Have you got the package wmp_api_call correctly installed in owb_repos schema?
When I first tried Impact Analysis, it failed to add the correct port (7777) to the URL. Then I discovered the option in the menu Project->Preferences...->Browser where you can set up your port.
    Hope this helps,

  • Is there any impact analysis tool for Oracle Forms and Reports

    Hi All
We are curretly looking at tools available to do impact analysis in Oracle Forms and Reports. This is for the maintainance of a large Oracle application developed using forms and reports 10g. We use Oracle Designer but only to maintain the db structure and not for forms and reports generation. Our intension is to find out the impact of db model changes, stored procedure changes in Oracle Forms and Reports. Please suggest any tools that are currently used for this purpose.
I remember manually maintaining the CRUD matrix for Oracle Forms and Reports for maintainance purpose. CRUD matrix will have the list of all the tables which are affected by the module. But this is a manual activity and hence the responsibility is with the dev team to keep the document updated. Please suggest if there is any alternative to this way which can be more effecient and less error prone...
I also wonder how these are done in Oracle ERP? how the apps team in oracle is maintaining the forms and reports?
    Thnaks in Advance
    Mahesh Mathew

Quest (the makers of TOAD) have a tool called SQL Impact which gathers data from forms, reports, triggers, packages etc.
FormsMate is a simple, cheap alternative for comparing or searching in forms.
    http://www.jockvale.ca/products.html
Alternatively, you can export forms to xml (with iff2xml90.bat) and reports to jsp (with rwconverter) and simply grep those and your sql scripts. There are grep tools for windows if you need.

  • Impact Analysis: Business Area, Profit Center changed for Sales Order type

    Hi All,
Can you please let me know the impact of changing the Business Area and Profit Center for Sales Order Document types.
    Scenario:
Let's say that sales document type ZOR has been used for sometime. On this document x number of sales orders have been raised, delivered and invoiced over the years.
Now, if you change the Business Area and Profit Center what would be the business impact.
    thanks,

    Hi,
First of all itu2019s not a good business practice to change the Business area and Profit Centre.
However if at all l you change the Business area and Profit centre the following is the impact::
Business Area: effects the sales order in accounts assignment at Header level.
Profit centre: effects the accounting part at Item level
Overall in MIS reporting w.r.t Profit and Business Analysis in Finance will be affected.
    Thanks and regards

  • Oracle EBS Customization Patch Impact Analysis Tool

    Hi All
There are times when you need to modify Oracle source code to achieve custom functionality. This will ideally happen once you receive a SCR approval from oracle(source code request approval).
The pitfall in this approach is that you will need to monitor the modified files very carefully for impacts. I have built a tool that is integrated with adpatch to monitor and warn of any potential impacts.
Some of you may be interested. If you have any suggestions for improvement please let me know.
    http://applikast.blogspot.com/2011/08/oracle-ebs-customization-patch-impact.html
    kind Regards,
    Arun.

    hi Hussein,
This is not certified by Oracle. This is a tool that I built on the current project when we had a situation where we got an SCR from oracle. We made modifications and they got overridden by a patch. This tool was built to prevent any such situations post go-live given that the customization was extremely crticial and it has kept us safe so far.
On a side note I had posted a couple of links to other tools that I had built but those posts seem to have been removed. Do you know why this might have happened? I am only trying to share my knowledge and tools in a broader community to help them. One of the links that has been taken off is also posted on the OAUG Configsyg site but the moderators over here seem to be a bit reluctant to let it remain. I don't quite know why.
    Thanks,
    Arun.

  • Impact Analysis-"GMI: Allow Negative Inventory"

    Hi-
Wanted to know if the subject profile option if set to "0" has impact in any other transaction other than Batch Material allocation where it'll not allow ingredient consumption which may drive on-hand negative.
    Will appreciate any response.
    -Thanks
    Ramen

    Hi
    632338
If your Profile option set '0' that is NO, definetly it will not have impact in any other transactions related to inventory only, i mean to say, even u can not transfer the inventory from one warehouse to another even if there is No inventory this is your otherthan Batch process.
It means when u set u r profile option GMI: Allow negative inventory to NO(0), u can not move/transfer u r inventory until and unless it exists with some inventory. This is the safest and ideal condition for any process industries.
You have one more option other than YES(1) and i.e., YES WITH WARNING(2), means it does you transaction at the same time and it will warn you by doing so.
    Hope this is clear.
