  • OSS Dependency / Impact Analysis

    Hi,
    While implementing OSS Notes, i frequently run into pre-requisite notes, which in turn have other dependent notes.
    Unfortunately, there is no way to know upfront the list of dependent notes and objects involved by applying any single note.
    SNOTE prompts you along the path of dependent notes only when you attempt applying the note. There is no simulation mode.
    Hence, one cannot do any kind of meaningful impact analysis.
    For example, i may want to implement a OSS note to fix a single Class method or Function module. However, the interdependcies end up changing 20-30 other objects. This then creates all kinds of side effects, which need to be resolved by applying more notes.
    This expands the scope of the problem. necessiating regression tests for many teams.
    Manually anticipating dependencies or doing impact analysis is painful. Are there any tools to make this easier ?.

    Without a doubt, It would be great to add to the list fo notes another list of notes that correct some side effects. If you are proposing a list of nptes to solve a problem, it doesn't make sense to propose a note as solution that has known side effects without warning.
    e.g. The following list corresponds to a note search done by ANST:
    Note       Title   Side Effect Prerrequisites
    XXXXXXX Title 1   No           Yes(4)
    YYYYY  Title 2   Yes(3)      Yes(1)
    Double clicking would take you to the list of notes that correct the side effects. Same with prerrequisites.
    Although I'm currently disengaged from the ANST team, I have discussed the idea witrh the software logistics team that currently maintain ANST and I hope we can see this feature in the future ANST.
    Another proposal to add to the SAP correction notes (Implementation effort: Low, Medium, High)

  • Details of OSS Note in SAP tables

    Hi Experts,
    Do we have any standard report or a simple way by which I can get all the contents of a specific OSS note without going into SNOTE transaction. The reason why I am asking is for analysing a large volume of OSS notes. If I need to go through SNOTE and then find the objects it will be tedious. I know the table where in these details are there but I want to know if there is any report handy to use.

    I'm afraid, but there is no such report in SAP using which you'll get the content os any SAP note.
    Another option than SNOTE transaction is to use SAP marketpplace to findout the same.

  • OSS Note for MIGO "Update terminate (SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC)"

    Dear all
    I am facing problem during MIGO GR reference Others, MVT 561.
    Upon clicing Button: Save, I face 2 types of errors intermittently
    1. Material document is saved and generated but when comes to displayed, it will say "Document 4900496xxx does not exist in calendar year 2009" And I check in Table: MKPF and it does not exist at all
    2. I am not able to save it and face this termination error:
    The ABAP/4 Open SQL array insert results in duplicate database record
    What happened?
    Error in ABAP application program.
    The current ABAP program "SAPLGLIU" had to be terminated because one
    statements could not be executed.
    This is probably due to an error in the ABAP program.
    What can you do?
    Print out the error message (using the "Print" function)
    and make a note of the actions and input that caused the
    error.
    To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
    You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and adminis
    termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion"
    I have done my investigation and the number range uder FBN1 for this MVT 561 under this Company Code and Year has been maintained.
    Can anyone advise me the OSS note to solve it? I cannot find a direct OSS note on it to solve this.

    I have posted so many material documents using MIGO to test it out and try to update my OMBT there so many times until I lost track what is the current number range when I wrote my question here.
    I have read that thread you posted regarding the ST22 analysis [Solution from Jurgen|Document does not exist after creation of PO; . I exported them to HTML and did a detail checking, and I find out it is FI GL there did not update the number range properly which in turns cause my GR to have problems.
    Below is my analysis and learning to share with others:
    1. Ask the ABAPER to find out which record value the system trying to insert. Copy down this number.
    2. Check the OMBT value of Current Number.
    3. Then use the MFPK Table to search the latest Number Range.
    4. Try to check if the record value trying to insert already exists in Current Number. Normally, it will exist and that is why 
        system  prompt "insert duplication".
    5. Then check if the record value trying to insert already exists in MFPK Number. Normally, it will exists it will exist and that is
        why system prompt "insert duplication". (There can be situation that the Current Number is lower than the MFPK Number,  
        but it  rarely happen).
    6. Replace the Current Number to be the Next Number of MKPF largest Number. Save and it should work.
    7. If it is not work, please create a material which is non valuated and perform GR, if GR can be done and we can display
        material doc, it means the error is caused by the FI GL number range error.
    8. There can be other issues such as activation of user exits and other.
    Jurgen, I got one more question to ask you. I have tried to replace the current number with the largest number of MKPF without + 1. It can solve my problem.
    But I wonder why SAP Notes and you suggest us to replace Current Number with largest MKPF value PLUS 1?
    Please advise.

    Applying OSS note is a critical activity in the system. Usually this task is carried out by the basis, as they maintain the system and the notes, support packs, etc.
    A OSS note has potential to impact the system in several ways. So it is better to work with the basis if  you need to apply a OSS note to be applied.
    Transaction code is Snotes. But pl dont attempt to apply by yourself.
    Reg your other question as how to use the OSS note, there is nothing like using aOSS note. Just apply and depending on what the notes do, it may change the config, or download a program or something.

    Impact Analysis: How to trace which Webi objects and tables used in a report?
    Currently, our company have been using BO Webi as our ad-hoc and reporting tool for over a year now.  Past several months, we've been pushing our power users to develop their own report, and started to notice that we loss track off which data (tables, columns, ... , BO objects) being used where and by whom.   The BI team now spend more time tracing through reports manually, instead of designing Universe.
    After consulted with our local  SAP  technical sale, they said the only solution is to buy BO's ETL (Data Integration) and
    Metadata Management tool, which price starting from $300K per CPU.  I suppose that is NOT the right solution; however, we have not found one yet.  Some executives believe Cognos (now by IBM) would provide a better BI solution as we scale.
    If anyone know, please provide (1) Impact Analysis method: How to trace which Webi objects and tables used in a report? and (2) Does Cognos provide better impact analysis method without a heavy spending?

    have you tried enabling auditing?
    - Yes, audit log only shows user's activities which isn't useful for us. Please let us know any audit log that might be helpful .
    For most of the servers listed in the CMC there is an "Audit" tab.  I'd say if you have the disk space in your database for Auditor available, then if in doubt turn it on (at least for a while) to see if it exposes what you are seeking to find out --that'd be the quickest way.  The documentation (xir2_bip_auditor_en.pdf) doesn't offer much in helping you to see a correlation between ticking on an Audit option in a Server and how it will populate in the Auditor DB -- most of us just hunt and peck until we get what we want.  Once you have the good stuff in each of the Servers ticked on you'll be able to track down which report recieves which object.  To help youself out initially, you should run every report that you can find so Auditor will get seeded.

  • OSS Note 128947

    Hi,
    I have 2 order items that are closed but still show up in MD04. I am applying OSS NOTE 128947 : Correction of SD document indexes. I will be running report SDRQCR21. But at the bottom of the report it says that "The SDRQCR21 report works incorrectly if the material indexes of VAPMA (Sales and distribution documents) or VLPMA (Deliveries) are incorrect"
    I need to know what does it stands for and what will be its impact.
    Can we run for only certain documents?

    Why don't you run the report even before applying the OSS note and check? Are the items MTO items?
    You can run this only for material+Plant combination.

    In deed I have a Transport Request in which I can see number of BW Objects like Info objects, Info packages, Info cubes, ODS , Query Elements, Transfer rules,....... some objects are already trasported to the production system even then those objects are attached to the request because of some changes made to them.
    Now let me know If an object which is already present in Production system can be re transported with some changes in the object or not ?
    Will there any impact on the Production system?

    We are doing a technical analysis and comparison with our 12.0.6 instance vs the new 12.1.2 instance
    Can someone point me in the direction of documentation that might help in analyzing the impact of this upgrade from a Technical standpoint? I am researching the impact on CEMLIs and other objects.

    I do not believe there is a document that provides impact analysis. In the past, we have had to do this on our own, using a combination of -
    1. a schema-by-schema comparison between the old and new versions (using a tool like TOAD or SQL Developer) and
    2. reading thru the RCDs that describe the changes between the old and new versions (see MOS Doc 561580.1 - "Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1 Release Content Documents" for your specific version)
    Pl be aware that if the schema comparison reports no changes, it does not necessarily mean that everything in the new version will work as it did in the old - Oracle has been known to create new objects (tables. views etc) in the new version while continuing to retain the same objects from the old version, even though they are not being used in the new version.

    One of my customer wonder do we have legacy systems performance impact analysis, best practice or customer case regarding our BAM solution. For instance, if BAM need to retrieve different sources like IBMMQ, RDBMS. It is definitely consume legacy system resource like CPU etc...Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Some random questions:
    Have you got a DAD set up in Oracle Web Server for you repository (I assume it is named owb_repos)?
    Have you got the package wmp_api_call correctly installed in owb_repos schema?
    When I first tried Impact Analysis, it failed to add the correct port (7777) to the URL. Then I discovered the option in the menu Project->Preferences...->Browser where you can set up your port.

    I am sure many of us have faced this problem before while using classical ALV display func modules.
    I am pasting the error analysis
    An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
    The exception, which is assigned to class 'CXSY_READ_SRC_LINE_TOO_LONG', was_
      not caught in
    procedure "KKKB_FIELDCAT_MERGE" "(FUNCTION)", nor was it propagated by a_
      RAISING clause.
    Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
    exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
    The reason for the exception is:
    There was an attempt to read program "ZU1HAP_IC_REVAL" from the database._
    The READ REPORT statement allows you to copy a program text into an
    internal table. The occupied line length in the program text must not
    exceed the width of the internal table.
    The internal table "\FUNCTION=KKKB_FIELDCAT_MERGE\DATA=L_ABAP_SOURCE[]" is 72_
      characters wide. The program line is
    84 characters wide.
    The Question is , is someone aware of an oss note that take care of this problem? I am looking in the marketplace but havent found something usefull as of now.

    If the length of line in the abap code exceeds 72 characters you will get that error.
    i could see that in your code a line has 84 characters.
    do this,system will automatically format the exceeded lines.
    Utitlites ->Settings->ABAP editor ->editor
    Check  Downwards-comp line length 72.

    We are curretly looking at tools available to do impact analysis in Oracle Forms and Reports. This is for the maintainance of a large Oracle application developed using forms and reports 10g. We use Oracle Designer but only to maintain the db structure and not for forms and reports generation. Our intension is to find out the impact of db model changes, stored procedure changes in Oracle Forms and Reports. Please suggest any tools that are currently used for this purpose.
    I remember manually maintaining the CRUD matrix for Oracle Forms and Reports for maintainance purpose. CRUD matrix will have the list of all the tables which are affected by the module. But this is a manual activity and hence the responsibility is with the dev team to keep the document updated. Please suggest if there is any alternative to this way which can be more effecient and less error prone...
    I also wonder how these are done in Oracle ERP? how the apps team in oracle is maintaining the forms and reports?

    Quest (the makers of TOAD) have a tool called SQL Impact which gathers data from forms, reports, triggers, packages etc.
    FormsMate is a simple, cheap alternative for comparing or searching in forms.

    Alternatively, you can export forms to xml (with iff2xml90.bat) and reports to jsp (with rwconverter) and simply grep those and your sql scripts. There are grep tools for windows if you need.

    Hi,
    It's not possible to implement the note which refers to previous version of SAP; the system will reject this update. You can look for OSS by entering the error message number you are receiving and trying to see if there is relevant info.
