  • Mac Mini OSX Server Version and installation

I am very interested in the New Mac Mini with OSX server configuration.
But I would like to know what is the difference between the "Retail" OSX server version and the "Bundled" OSX server version which came with the Mac Mini ?
Can the "Bundled" server version be installed on another intel-based Mac ( in case of hardware failure in the Mac Mini ) ?

The difference is that this is server software, it is not the Mac OS X client software for day-to-day use on a Pro or Consumer Mac.
The bundled software according to the Mac mini Server specs page is on an Install/Restore DVD. These are usually machine specific so it will not be usable by directly placing it in the ODD of another Mac, it should spit the disc out as unusable. But there are ways to connect the Macs and install the software to another Mac. However, the End User Agreement licenses the software for installation on only one Mac at a time.

  • OSX 10.6 upgrade sent "server" version

I've been trying to upgrade from my iMac from 10.5 to 10.6.  Went to apple store by phone and orderd the Snow Leopard upgrade as recomended.  They sent the Snow Leopard Server version.  Is it the same as the regular version?   Because when I tried to install it I got the message "You can't upgrade this version of Mac OS X."

Would the regualr version of Snow Leopard work?

  • I have a Mac OSX Server - can this be upgraded to Mavericks?

Am confused about whether I can update my OSX Server to Mavericks?( I have 4GB of memory.)  And if so, which application do I choose to do so - Safari?

So the first question is, what version of OS X Server are you running now and what model machine is it running on?  The second question is what services is your current server running?  The third question is what client devices are you supporting?  These will help answer if you can or should.
If you decide you want to the general process is:
1:  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP.  This is not just that you have some files in two places.  Make sure you have a regression plan in the event the upgrade fails.  I can not stress this enough.
2:  Upgrade the device to Mavericks 10.9.2.  This is "purchasable" through the Apple App Store.  Please note, Mavericks 10.9.x is free.  However, you need to associate it with an Apple ID.
3:  Purchase Server.app from the App Store.  This is $20 USD.
4:  Run Server.app to upgrade your services.  Test.  Cross fingers.

  • OSX Server Upgrade locked

I was upgrading my OSX Server to Mavericks,
so went from 10.7.5 to 10.9 OK
    10.9 to 10.9.2 OK
Then needed to upgrade the server software to latest version.
    Downloaded and installed - OK.
The clicked on the server icon to start the migration/upgrade.
This started 6 hours ago and now is stuck at 75% on the progress bar with 'upgrading services'.
We have about 20 email users on the systems and am reluctant to force a restart.
Rest of the machine is responsive.
What should I do, leave it for longer, restart, go back to my backup (CarbonCloneCopier).
    Any suggestions most welcome.
    Thanks
    Carl

After leaving over night, the server reported that it had completed the update will some errors (phew).
After clicking OK, server came back up. External emails OK.
Only issue with it is related around our certificates and the remote mail system.
So moral of the story is 'be patient' & have plenty of backups - it took over 6 hours to process our emails.
Right, back to sorting out remote mail

  • OSX Server v4 - serveradmin --version == DEBUG

I am running latest and greatest on my MacPro3,1 server; serveradmin reports it no version # (DEBUG)
I have been experiencing issues since upgrading; I found that the /usr/sbin/post* commands differ from the versions in /Applications/Server.app/.../usr/sbin
Moved originals to .orig for /usr/sbin/post* and linked to /Applications.../usr/sbin/post*
Moved original /etc/postfix to .orig and linked to /Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix
Not a very clean install; should either eliminate postfix from standard install or remove when installing Server (or use existing and not bring own copy of postfix).

Looks like this ones not yet solved - I change the DHCP server from 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.1.100 and renewed the lease to refresh the settings:
    watsonad-mbpro:~ watsonad$ hostname
    watsonad-mbpro.anthonywatson.net.au
    watsonad-mbpro:~ watsonad$ nslookup watsonad-mbpro

    16.1.168.192.in-addr.arpa name = watsonad-MBPro.anthonywatson.net.au.
    watsonad-mbpro:~ watsonad$
So here are the zone entries, now these have all been created by server admin utility - below is the db.anthonywatson.et.au.zone.apple file , the one in the "named" directory points to this one of course:

Why can't i access Pages on my mac osx Maverics version 10.9.5. Do i need to upgrade to Yosemite? I was using it yesterday just fine.

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222
        Do this twice
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the appropriate method.
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Make sure that no box is checked under “Mute”.

  • HT201364 Xserve (Early 2008) with Snow Leopard 10.6.8: How far can I upgrade ? Can I upgrade to an OS X Server version? Is any OS X Lion version compatible?

How far can I upgrade ?
Can I upgrade to an OS X Server version?
Is any OS X Lion version compatible?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • Server version after patch upgrade

    Hi All,
I have upgraded patch SP5 of BPC 7.0 on server and on my local machine.
Now on server, it showing 7.0.114 as server version. But when I check the same from my local machine it is showing 7.0.113.

    Hi,
I would suggest you to first uninstall all BPC clients on your local machine, and then go under the link http://yourserver/OSoft and click the Client software link from there.
    Hope this will help.

  • OSX Server 3 upgrade install works, clean install has mail servers problems.

I decidied to be cautious and do a prelminary upgrade install from server version 2 to verion 3 rather than a fresh install or Mavericks and Server 3 . That went without a hitch and so I then decided to do fresh install. I have found that when i do a fresh install, the mail server component  seems to be in an endless loop of updating virus definitions.
After doing a fresh install twice and experienceing the same problem, I attempted to locate the cause which appears to be that postfix is unable to communicate with amavisd over the loopback interface and so the mail server fails to start or more precisely starts momentarily and then falls back to a message about updating virus definitions. This type of problem seems to have occured in previous server versions but I am unable to find any sort of definitive fix.
Has anyone experienced this problem or have any ideas how to fix it.

I have been an ardent user of aperture for years now and got used to the great workflow. Ever since version 1 I have been enjoying working with aperture. It is the workflow that kept me from changing.
I got a new MacPro 12 GB ram, 4TB HDD my library mostly indexed files sits on a raided 2TB for maximum of comfort. I did this in an effort to keep me from writing the posts I writing lately. I do not have the time rally to do this but reality is something different.
Today I am working on a job I need to finish quickly and in aperture workflow manner. So I switched to full screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen mode and after pressing 'H' for the HUD my screen started flickering. please look at the video I posted in my flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mawas/4719742585/
Now this is the second time this happened in a short time after I got a new mac and upgraded to 10.6.4! After the screen had jammed up : http://gallery.me.com/masuwa/100103 I needed to hard boot my mac I am getting nervous!

    Hello All -
Have an OSX Server 10.3.9 which has Apple Remote Desktop Client version 1.2.x. How can I get this updatedto at least 2.x? My ARD 3.0 Admin will not work or at least I haven't been able to get it to connect.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

You keep mentioning remotely install. I'm not sure what that means to you. If you have physical access to the machine, you can run the installer from the GUI. Otherwise, over SSH is probably your best bet (using kickstart).
    Start here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107837
use the help command to get info on how to install the package. it's very simple.

  • Upgrading my Dual core g5 desktop to osx server

My question is simple. I am debating upgrading my existing desktop to osx server. Is it possible to do this and not loose any software and or user accounts? If it is not possible I could go down the route of darwin.

You've posted in the wrong forum. Post your question here: http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=96.
Unless your computer will be used in a fairly large network as the main server there's little point in installing OS X Server and incurring the additional costs.
