OT: formatting in this forum

I just wrote two post. In one of them, the line breaks was preserved, in the other everything went into a sigle line.
WHY does it happen?
What can I do for my line breaks never get lost?

What can I do for my line breaks never get lost?Depends on what you mean. You can use the [pre] tag when you post things which need a monospaced font, and line breaks.

  • How to post my code in this Forum under a good format?

can any one tell me how to post the java resource code in here? when i just copy and paste. the format of the output is not so good, i saw some one posted some code under a very good format in this Forum, how to do that?

If you want to post code that makes it easier on someone else to cut-n-paste, then put the code inside of the [ pre] and [ pre] tags (no blank space in between). If you want code that looks pretty (i.e., with syntax highlight, etc) but hard to cut-n-paste (at least for someone like me who uses Windows WordPad as a source code editor), put the code inside of the [ code] and [ code] tags (again no spaces in between). pre is an abbreviation for preformatted text!

  • Making corrections while writing in this forum, how to?

Since the new format of this forumI am no longer able to right-hand-click and get corrections for misspelledwords.
In its place I get this (find it pretty annoying Apple):
Anybody know a solution?  A way to fix this?
    Thanks

This is really a question for the Using Apple Support Communities forum, but that may not be any more obvious than the solution. As described in its Spell Check in New Forums- How The Heck does it work? topic, the ASC editor's tools interfere with the built in OS X spell checker.
Check that topic for the details but the short answer is you control click to bring up the OS X contextual menu, not right click.

  • Formating of the message in this forum

    Hello!!!
I need to post a topic on this forum and I need to post table with the sample data too. I have done proper alignment of the table in text editor , but when I see preview of message in the forum, I found that alignment is not as what I have done in text editor.
I lost tab spaces and additional space I have inserted.
How can I make formating of the message?
Are there any custom tags to format the message for this forum?
    Regards,
    Chetan Parekh

You can specify that the whitespace should be preserved by putting the tags [ pre] and [ pre] (without the spaces) around the text.

  • How to format posts in this forum.

<p>As you may have noticed posts in this form lose all formatting when you post even when you use formatting tags. Unfortunatley this well known yet mysteriously unresolved issue is true for almost all of the recently added forums, which seems a pity because several, like this one seem to be in concept a good idea.</p>
<p>Of course no formatting is a pain because it creates unreadable posts.</p>
<p>But wait there's a paragraph break! And here's another one! How did I do this?</p>
<p>Thankfully the same bug that means that normal formatting tags are not enabled for this forum also means that HTML tags <b>ARE</b> enabled for this forum.</p>
<p>Feedback has been reported on this issue since early June to no avail and I don't expect any change any time soon so I thought I'd let those interested in participating in this forum how they can actually post posts that can be read.</p>
<p>Finally here's a quickie HTML primer to help those who need it.
    <br><center><table border="1" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="0">
    <tr><td><b>Tag</b></td><td><b>Description</b></td><td><b>Example</b></td></tr>
    <tr><td><p></td><td>Paragraph Tag</td><td><p>Paragraph one<p>paragraph two</td></tr>
    <tr><td><br></td><td>Line Break</td><td>Line one<br> line two</td></tr>
    <tr><td><b></td><td>Bold</td><td><b>Bold text</b></td></tr>
    <tr><td><pre></td><td>Preformatted Tag</td><td><pre>
    public class Sample{
    private int x = 3;
</pre><br><small>Note that while this loses syntax highlighting it will keep code formatting intact</small></td></tr>
    </table></center>
<p>And just to note for the pre and bold tags you will need closing tags at the end of the text you want to format in this manner. Otherwise it will not stop which will also be unplesant. Ending tags look like </b> and </pre></p>
<p>Hope some may find this helpful</p>

<p>There may be others but certainly these newish ones are all broken and need to be fixed. This bug is annoying from a user perspective but also they can be dangerous as well if exploited</p>
<p>I know I have personally reported feedback about this problem since at least the middle of June to no effect yet</p>

  • Welcome to this forum on "Core J2EE Patterns" by the Sun Java Center

Welcome to this forum on Core J2EE Patterns by the Sun Java Center!
    CONTEXT:
This forum is intended for discussing the patterns from the Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog and other topics discussed in our book, Core J2EE Patterns.
We, the authors of the book, welcome you to this forum.
    WHO WE ARE:
We are Enterprise Java Architects from the Sun Java Center (SJC), which is the Java consulting organization of Sun Microsystems. We are a world-wide group of architects focusing on all consulting related to Java technologies.
Visit our web-site for more information on SJC:
    http://www.sun.com/service/sunps/jdc/index.html
    BACKGROUND:
Over the last few years, we at SJC have worked with our customers in architecting, designing, and implementing solutions on the J2EE platform. We have worked on documenting the J2EE patterns for over two years and released the patterns for public review in Beta form via the Java Developer Connection in May, 2001.
The beta version of the patterns is available online as The Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog at:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2EE/patterns/
Subsequent to the release, we received great feedback and comments from hundreds of reviewers. We then worked towards incorporating the feedback into the pattern documentation. One of the common comments was about the lack of code examples in the online documentation. The latest pattern documentation provides many code examples and incorporates all the feedback received so far.
    BOOK INFORMATION:
Core J2EE Patterns, the book, was released at JavaOne 2001 during June 4-9, and will be available in stores around the end of June 2001.
The book includes the complete updated Sun Java Center J2EE Pattern Catalog with 15 patterns covering these J2EE technologies: Java Server Pages (JSP), Servlets, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), and Java Message Service (JMS). In addition to the J2EE Pattern Catalog, the book also provides other chapters that discuss design considerations,
bad practices, and J2EE Refactorings. Example code is included for all patterns and strategies.
If you wish to view the complete table of contents or order the book, please visit one of the following online bookstores:

    COMMUNITY:
The online community for discussing the patterns included in our book Core J2EE Patterns has grown over the past year, since our first presentation at JavaOne 2000. This community is supported by our LISTSERV and is available for public participation at:
    http://archives.java.sun.com/j2eepatterns-interest.html
You can view the past discussions on this list at the above URL.
    FORUM LOGISTICS:
John and Dan are on the east coast and Deepak is on the west coast. We will be tuned into the forum and answering the messages periodically between June 19 and June 25, 2001. If you want to discuss the J2EE Patterns after June 25, you are invited to join the aforementioned J2EE Patterns Interest list.
    FORUM DISCLAIMER:
All responses to questions posed in this News Group are given on an "as is" basis. We believe the solutions or explanations given here are correct, but do not guarantee that responses will be complete, without error and/or work for all platforms and system configurations.

    ---Authors of Core J2EE Patterns

    Rajakannan,
There are numerous ways to implement a templating mechanism in support of the composite view pattern, included in the catalog as a presentation-tier pattern.
The goal is to avoid simply having monolithic views with all the formatting code embedded directly withing the view. If we have common subviews that are shared across several or more views then we end up with a copy-and-paste type of reuse...undesirable. So, modularity is one issue. Another major force when considering the Composite View pattern is that we may want to manage the layout of our pages and the content of our pages separately. We may have some logical regions defined, such as a search panel and main body, and a subview that plugs into those logical regions that map to a physical page (ie: x.jsp and y.jsp). We may then want to vary one independent of the other...ie: we may want to modify the layout of the page w/o changing the content and we may want to vary the content w/o touching the layout.
There are a number of implementation strategies that can be used to implement the Composite View pattern, ranging from relatively simple to much more sophisticated. We describe each in our book and include source code examples.
The example in the book that allows for supporting all the issues described above is implemented using the "Custom Tag View Management Strategy" and uses a tag library written by David Geary, that supports the Composite View pattern. The library is also included in David's new book, Adv. JavaServer Pages, Prentice Hall, 2001.
Again, it's simply one implementation and, as you mention, there are many different ways to implement this strategy.
    Thanks for your question,
    Dan

  • A summary of this forum for perspective Nokia buye...

I have been on this forum for about 2 weeks (not long I admit) ever since the release of "free" navigation for (your) Nokia phone.
Since then I have observed the following:
    Nokia blatantly refuse to acknowledge or comment on issues which make them look bad, to whit;
    - Nokia maps not working with BlueTooth
    - Nokia Maps failing to update on certain handsets
    - A time/date bug causing phones to crash when using Nokia Maps
    - Nokia voice files failing to install due to an LUA error
    - Nokia's refusal to comment on whether certain phones will be supported
    - Nokia's refusal to answer questions directly either on or off the record
    - Numerous complaints by customers mislead by Nokia's blatant lie that Nokia Maps are     now free for phone.
    - Nokia's license servers failing to work when a license is purchased.
    - Nokia's license servers rolling licenses forward to version 3, and then being unable to work with version 2 when any of the previously mentioned issues arise.
Nokia have further seen more than 40 users post to say they will never buy another Nokia (myself included) PURELY regarding the dishonesty they have shown with their handling of the maps situation. Nokia have still not commented, nor stated publicly their intentions with regards to these issues.
Nokia have, in short, angered their (once) loyal customer base and driven numerous people away for the opportunity to (falsly) advertise free navigation on their phones.
I feel the above is a fairly apt description of the occurences of this board over the last 2 weeks.
Does anyone else want to point out something I have missed/agree/disagree with me?
Please post your (reasoned and intelligently ONLY!) oppinions here, and lets see if we might be able to get through to Nokia.
    Perspective buyers, watch this thread.
EDITED - I messed up the formatting rather badly.
If you read something you liked, or found this post useful, hit the green Kudos button on the left.

Err, if you post here, you really shouldnt expect Nokia to reply to you since this is aUSER-TO-USER FORUM. The Nokia hired moderators here arent even technicians who could answer some of the questions. They're just here to enforce forum rules. Some Nokia employees do come around from time to time, but that's so rare as to us not expect them here at any given time. If you want an official Nokia response to your queries, the only way would be to mail them through the contact us button at the top of the page.
As for shamelessly ignoring questions regarding n95 and n96, lets see. They announced that they were working on the maps to be compatible on other s60v3FP2 phones to be available this year, hopefully within the first half (n96 included). This has been already answered before. Then somebody comes in and posts the same question again. It is answered. A few days later someone else asks it again. Personally, some people here do get tired of answering the same question again and again sometimes at intervals of a few hours of each other. Most of the people here who answer your questions arent Nokia employees and are in no way obligated to answer your questions if they have already answered it like 5 or six times. I've seen here posts regarding the new answer key for the v40 5800 right next to each other asking the same thing, and one of the threads was answered.
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

  • New Announcement in this forum

I just saw, that Jan created a new announcement on top of this forum. Good !
    =>
If you have java code to display on the forum, surround it with tags and the output formatter will format the code for you with syntax highlighting and with indentation intact. See thread Re: Where can I find the JAR-File of the JDAPI-demo FormDumper ? for an example.
It works for PLSQL code as well.

Good thread! And good announcement, Jan.
    Here are a few comments:
What is an "empty b tag"?
Here's how I do it:  When I post a message that includes ampersand characters such as the &amp91; for the [, and then go back and edit the message, the board software screws up the ampersands.   In order to preserve them, [u]every time I edit the message, I must add "amp;" after the ampersand, so it looks like this: &amp;amp;  If I don't, the [code&#93; turns into an active tag.  The best way to get it right is to copy my message into a simple editor, and make corrections there, then paste it back into this board's edit window.    …so you can see why the "empty b tag" sounds good.
As for history of where we learned the methods:   Francois learned of it <a href=http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=960521#960521 target=_new>here.</a>  And I learned about it from Andrew P Clarke  (exactly 4 years ago) <a href=http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=546435#546435 target=_new>here.</a>
And incidentally, that code formatting feature failed <a href=http://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=1387245#1387245 target=_new>for a time last year.</a>
    Jan, I think you could clean up that announcement.  You show the second code as /code\.  But there should be no trailing backslash.  And now that you know how to edit and maintain those square brackets, you could show it as &#91;code&#93;...&#91;/code&#93;
    Thanks! [nobr]

  • Why cant I have the date format like this:  1/2/07, it converts to Jan 2

Why cant I have the date format like this: 1/2/07, it converts to Jan 2, 2007
I want to keep it like that because, I transported a huge spreadsheet from my PC, and it has like this: 1/1/07, and there is way to many, to go back and change. Please help. Thank you.

    Hello
    Welcome to the club.
The response seems to be simple.
Those who wrote the Help are not those who wrote the PDF User's Guide which are not those who coded the application.
As on this forum you will met only users trying to help other users, no one would be able to tell you if what we got is a bug or a design flaw.
    Like many of us,
*Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu*, describe what you wish: a way to define the default format used as Automatic date/time.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait for iWork'09

    >
You use \ on the line before and on the line after what you are quoting.Same for posting code: use on the line before and on the line after your posted code.
There is a 'Preview' tab on the reply window so you can see what your reply looks like before you submit it.
See the FAQ. There is a section there 'Are there any useful formatting options not shown on the sidebar?'

  • What's up with this forum?

    Hello again world.
The last time I went on vacation I was unable to login as "grand_poobah" when I returned.
So, I created a new account - "SkupperJack".
Now, I come back from another vacation to discover "SkupperJack" is gone and "grand_poobah" is back.
And I actually accumulated some Dukes as "SkupperJack".
Not that any of you care about any of this, but I was wondering if this new format has any other "gottchas" I should know about.
    Thanx one and all.
    Ciao for now.

I'm not liking the new forums. But hey, they're free, so I'm getting what I paid for.I beg to differ here; not everything needs to be quantifiable by money; this used
to be, and I hope still is, quite vivid forum which can be quite some fun too now
and then. There's no need to change that, as Sun just did. As you said, most of
the little (innocent) tricks don't work anymore, why? New trickery-dickery is
possible all of a sudden (see what silk.m did) and taken away again without
notice, and about everything everybody was used to, doesn't work anymore ...
I'm not liking the new forum either and we all have a right to mention that even
    if this forum's free.
    kind regards,
    Jos

  • This forums is mostly similar to oracle forums

It is the first time I visit this forum.
I feel this forum is 90% like oracle's forum.
Is this forum is same developer between this and oracle's one?

If you are asking are the same people here? Yes, some of the same people are here, but I rather doubt 90 percent of the people here are also in the Oracle Forums.
If you are saying the forum formats look the same: yes, as already brought up, many of the forums look the same and may even use the same software.
If you are saying that the content of these forums and the Oracle forums are 90 percent the same, then I would totally disagree with you: almost all of these forums do not even mention Oracle and over on Oracle a vast majority of the forums do not mention Java.

  • HOWTO: get your questions answered on this forum

As this is primarily about formatting, I hope I've got everything right :)
Giving your posting a clear layout is helpful to the other participants in this forum, because it makes your contribution easier to read. Here are some tips for increasing the clarity of your question or reply.
    [list=1]
[*]1. PLEASE DO NOT USE ALL CAPITALS. It makes your posting harder to read. Mixed case (at least in English) has the greatest variety of letter shapes and therefore conveys the most information to a reader's eyes. Also, netiquette considers all capitals to be the equivalent of SHOUTING and is thus rude.
[*]2. Pls dont us txt abbrvtns n ur pstng. This also makes things difficult to read. Nobody will think you are less of a "d00d" if you use you instead of u.
[*]3. Please make use of the UBB formatting options. These are like HTML mark-up, but they use square brackets - []- instead of pointy ones - <>. More information can be found at the Forum FAQ http://forums.oracle.com/forums/faq.jsp?uid=1027669490365 (unfortunately, the URL for the actual formatting page is not visible to us, so I can't post it here).
[*]4. Please include all necessary information. This usually means, at minimum, the database version you are using. If you are asking about a piece of your own code that does not work, post the error code and/or message, or at least describe its behaviour. Saying "it doesn't work" doesn't give us much to go on. Posting the code is a good idea, unless it's humongous: use the UBB [ code ][ /code ] format.
[*]5. Please read the documentation before posting. Some people are offended by replies that say RTFM or STFW. You won't invite such replies if you have made reasonable efforts to find out the answer yourself before posting here. This means at least reading the Oracle manual. You should also try using the Forum search engine, although we know it is somewhat unreliable: OTN have promised to make it better soon. There is a lot of information on the web so learning to use a search engine like Google (http://www.google.com) will help you as well.
[*]6. Start a new thread for a fresh topic. Appending a new subject to an existing thread is not a good idea. If it's a long running thread only a handful of people might visit it - as everyone else has got bored - which decreases your chances of getting a reply. Also, it antagonises the people who are following that thread.
    [list]
There's further discussion of formatting postings here: The specified item was not found..
In summary, if you cannot be bothered to spend the time making you post easy and interesting to read why should other people spend their time answering it? There are no Oracle moderators on this forum, we are all volunteers.
    Cheers, APC
    Caveat emptor
This advice is posted on behalf of the Rogue Moderators. It is posted with the best of intentions but is not guaranteed in any way, shape or form

    7. Don't post the same question several times. If someone can answer your question, he/she will do, asking twice or more often
    doesn't give better answers.
    8. Do not use terms like "URGENT" or "pl.answer asap".
Noone will answer faster, but many will be bored.
    9. Do not login with a name like NULL NULL.
People answering your question would like to talk to a person,
    not to a brain damage.
