Outlining, Borders and Shrinking to 1 Page

I used to use Excel daily at work and finally switched to Numbers. I used to use the border/outline feature alot. I don't seem to be able to find the equilvant in Numbers. Also there is no shrink to one page feature. From reading this forum I have to re size and delete columns until it fits on one page? Thanks for your help.

The Numbers User Guide PDF is the best place to look for the basics, stuff you are pretty sure should be possible.
Controls for Borders are in the Table Inspector, and when appropriate, on the Format Bar. You select the range of cells you want to change the borders on, pick which borders you want to change within the selection and then pick line type, width or color. As you select the border lines, you will see them highlighted - don't mistake this for the change.
Fitting content to a page is done in two ways. First, eliminate any rows or columns that don't have content. If you don't, you'll get extra pages. Second, if you've gotten rid of any unneeded parts and still can't fit what you want on a page, you can shrink everything with the Content Scale Slider in the lower left part of the window. You must select Print View mode to activate the slider.

Many people have this experience with Windows 8, which is becoming a byword for unpopularity.
Still, a bit of basic understanding is important. People have got used to just getting a new version of Windows and using it, without training or study. Not any more, thanks to Microsoft's bright ideas.
Here are some very crucial things about Windows 8.
1. Windows 8 has a new kind of app (program). These new kinds of apps take over the whole screen. Microsoft thinks these are the future. I won't tell you what I think. Except, if this new world is so great, why don't Microsoft use it for their own Office apps. A
2. The old world of Windows 7 and before is still available with most Windows 8 computers, except some cheap tablets and phones. Microsoft like to call this an app called "Desktop" which is really all of the old-fashioned, windows-can-be-resized, apps together.
3. Most apps are "new world" or "old world". Everything in the App Store is new world - that's the rule. A few apps (like Internet Explorer) can run in either world.
4. Windows 8 comes with a PDF reader "out of the box". This runs only in the new world and it's called "Microsoft Reader". Don't bother with it.
5. Adobe produce a "new world" PDF reader called "Adobe Reader Touch". Marginally better than Microsoft Reader, it's just not a patch on the old one; there are loads of things it doesn't do, and worst of all it's always full screen because Microsoft said so. No need to use it. Just download the old world Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader as usual. (Be sure to turn off the unwanted "free offers"!!)

How to hide outline borders of a JTable

whoa!! lots of work in JTable is sure problametic with limited accessibility in Java, anyways my question is that how can we achieve a JTable without outline borders and if possible without any third party jars please..

actually i am printing a component panel ,thus its showing the outline border of JTable with data as well as the header is filled with grid color, so i was asking to remove the outline completely from JTable showing in a JFrame.

Have just reinstalled Acrobat Pro XI and the Fit and shrink to page size options are not working - Any ideas?

When printing to a laser device my Acrobat Pro XI all of a sudden was not shrinking oversized pages to fit on paper. The Fit and Shrink to page options did not work. Could still output file reduced by using the percentage box but wondered if anyone else has encountered this problem before? Reinstalled Acrobat but problem still there.

I suddenly have started having this same problem. Anyone have an answer?

I had someone go into the css I believe, and make it so there were no borders visible on the page (I could see the dotted outline while working on it, but when pushed, it wasn't visible (which is what I wanted). They called it "noborders." Since I had to reinstall, it went away. Help?

Feature Request: Photo Borders and Copying in Books

These are a few related feature requests. If anyone knows of a better way to do this with the current software, then I would love to hear it.
When making books I like to have borders around the pictures of various colors (usually black or white) and various widths. In Apeture this is a pain to do. I fiqured out that I could fake it by making a picture box and inserting a solid black picture into it and then creating a smaller picture box in front of it for my real photo. This might be tolerable if I could at least then select both picture boxes and their contents to copy and then onto other pages as a template that I can resize as needed.
Ideally I would love to be able to copy and paste multiple elements on a book page and I would like to be able to define photo borders. Any chance of seeing this in the near future?

Thanks for the reply. You are right, the cut and paste works fine, it just didn't work the way I expected it to. Maybe that is a GUI design thing to consider. I was actually trying to click and drag a selection box like you might do in iPhoto to select multiple images that are right beside each other. This doesn't work at all in Aperture, but your method does work just fine.
I agree with the other poster that some additional features like:
Photo Borders
Export to PSD (with layers)
Custom page sizes and Custom themes
would be very nice and start to make that tool truley useful.

Insert a rectangular shape.
Go to Inspector > Graphic
define the fill color
Stroke > Picure Frame
adjust the width and the color
Arrange > Send object to the background
From time to time, it's useful to look in the Help or in the PDF Users Guide.

From Word DOC to Acrobat PDF... borders and lines get screwed up.

I've been looking this up for days now and have yet to find a solution.
I have a MS Word document that has a bunch of tables with borders and sometimes just text with borders for stylistic reasons. In Word, it all looks perfect.
But, when I convert it to PDF using Acrobat, many of those borders get screwed up in various random ways.
Sometimes certain borders get thicker, sometimes thinner, sometimes invisible altogether. Sometimes it's only certain lines of the same border (just the left side, or just the top). I see no real pattern to what's causing it to only happen in certain cases only.
What makes it extra annoying is that if I zoom in or out a certain amount, the borders will look the way they are supposed to look. Some will look perfect at 100% zoom only, and some will look perfect at 75% zoom only.
This has been driving me insane. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to convert any word doc with tables (& shading) to PDF
- basic table, black borders throughout
- shaded headings, black outline border
- shaded subheadings, black outline border
However when convert to PDF:
- 'displays' NO top cell border for some/all shaded rows
- shows diff thickness lines
- each conversion, diff lines missing/incorrectly sized
- however converted pdf prints perfectly fine
Adobe know about the bug, per PRMW's (Paul's) post on 2009-07-15 15:44:34, however only offered a painful time consuming workaround using non-freeware Adobe Pro:

Webparts missing borders and edit web part menu

I have a web part page, and added 7 apps (document libraries) into the page. They are all set to minimized for the chrome state and toolbar type is "Full Toolbar". The web parts do not display any border, and the edit web part menu
is not available, it is only available when in editing mode.
When I look at my site in SharePoint 2007 with the same settings, I can see that they have borders on the web parts and the edit web part menu is available on the right hand side (even when you are not in edit mode).

Am I missing a setting? I've tried in IE 11, FireFox and Chrome, all are the same.

I've done some fiddling after reading your post.. This seems like a bug, and there is hardly any information on it.
I'm experiencing the exact same thing in my environment; I can minimize a web part, and it is not restorable unless I edit the page. Furthermore, when I set the chrome to Title and Border, I get no border.
Also, it's cleared stated by MS that this should be possible: "You can configure a Web Part to be minimized by default on a page. You might do this if a page seems crowded.
The readers of the page can restore the Web Part while they are reading the page. If they close and then reopen the page, the Web Part will be minimized again."

I am looking for an API through which I am able to shrink a PDF page. For example I want an A3 page to be converted to A4 without loss of any content.Please let me know is there any option available for doing the same apart from printing the page to a new file.

Problems with vertical cell borders and the default table style

When laying out tables in Word, I like to use thin horizontal lines (cell borders) and thick-ish white vertical lines. The vertical white cell borders create a subtle negative space that is less cluttered than the typical boxed-in-all-sides style.
Issue 1.
In Pages, horizontal cell borders seem to take precedence over vertical cell borders so my vertical white line trick doesn't work. Is there a way to force my vertical white cell borders to "show up" over my think black horizontal cell borders?

So, for the time being, I'm not using vertical white cell borders in tables; instead, I set the vertical cell borders to "none." Unfortunately, when I try to set the default table style using a table with no vertical cell borders, Pages adds the vertical cell borders anyway. Does anyone know a way to get Pages to surrender?

I checked and here, aftere defining a new default format with vertical lines set to none, this format is used when I cvreate a new table.
But the same with horizontal lines doesn't apply.

Two ways to print a portion of a page: zooming or using the Snapshot Tool.
ZOOMING:
Zoom into the area you want to print.
Click the Print icon.
Under "Pages to Print", make sure "Current view" is selected under "More options" (you may need to click "More options" to open it).
If you aren't satisfied with the preview, try clicking "Fit" under the Size button.
SNAPSHOT
Choose Edit > Take A Snapshot.
Drag a rectangle around the area you want to print.
Click the Print icon.
Under "Pages to Print", make sure that "Selected Graphic" is selected under "More options".
To enlarge the snapshot to fit the sheet of paper, choose "Fit" under the Size button.

You saved it after setting the Password? :
Inspector > Document > Document > Require Password to Open
I just tested it and it shows up ijn The Finder with a padlock on the file icon and does require a password to open.
