Outlook 2010 attachment not received
Hi,
in a system with Windows Server 2008 and Outlook 2010 I'm facing this problem: mails are received always without attachment. The problem occours with both Exchange and simply POP/SMTP mail accounts.
I've already verify that mails are always sent with HTML format (no RTF).
The problem is appeared after last week updates.
Anyone has faced this problem or have some information about some issues with new updates?
Thank you!!
Hi,
Try to send and receive the emails via OWA and Webmail only, check if the attachments exist.
I have noticed some issues have occurred since the February 10, 2015 update for Outlook 2010 (KB2956128), but this symptom is the first time to be seen. To verify if your issue is related, uninstall this update temporarily to check the result.

Outlook 2010 does not receive rss messages
Hi,I have recently uninstalled a freeware VPN.
After that outlook 2010 does not receive messages (bizarrely firefox works fine, but internet explorer does not)!
I keep receiving error code: 0x800c0008
I made sure that it is properly uninstalled.
Thank you for your help!Hi,
Have you subscribed any RSS Feeds before? Please go to File > Info > Account settings > "RSS Feeds" Tab and check if all the feeds are healthy (connection successful?). Remove them to check
whether you would still receive the error code anymore.

Unable to see markups in Outlook 2010 attachment preview
Hi,
I am unable to see markup tags which were done in Word 2010 in the Outlook 2010 attachment preview window. The word file normally gets marked up and sent as an attachment. Most of the time the attachment preview will highlight the markup over the words and
when the mouse is hovered over it will show the actual comment. For a couple of my users, this has stopped working.
When they double-click on the attachment they also cannot see the comments. However, if they save it to the local or network drive and then open the file all the markups will automatically appear.
As a test I asked them to send me the email which had this problem to see if this happens on my Outlook and I cannot see the markups either. So I guess something must have happened with the Word file?
Any ideas what this could be? The documents were originally composed in Word 2010 as far as I know. I have also created a test markup file and emailed this to myself and this shows the highlights fine.
I attach a picture of when its working well.
But with the documents that my users have this does not show.
Any suggestions really appreciated.Hi,
What if we copy all the content from the problematic Word document and paste it to a new blank document, save and attach it to an email, will you see the markup?
Please let me know the result.

Outlook 2010/Outlook365/ not showing some attachments
We are plagued with random situations where emails coming with inline attachmnets are not showing in outlook
2010 If attachments. Forward the message to a different mail provider , for example yahoo mail the exact same messages show attachments as expected! So in other words, the attachments really are there but for some reason when the messages come through
the Office365/Exchange 2013 server Outlook 2010 won't show them and the message has to be forwarded to a different email system to get at the attachments.
Await reply from MicrosoftHi
As per the information and details provided by you, to solve the Outlook attachment problem, please follow these steps: -
All versions of Outlook include a security feature that blocks attachments that might put your computer at risk for viruses or other threats. You can still open the attachments
that Outlook blocks by using one of the following methods: -
Use a file share to access the attachment.
Use a file compression utility to change the file name extension.
Rename the file to have a different file name extension.
Follow these steps to save the attachment and rename it to use the original file name extension:
Locate the attachment in the e-mail.
Right-click the attachment, and then click
Copy.
Right- click the desktop, and then click
Paste.
Right-click the pasted file, and then click
Rename.
Rename the file to use the original file name extension,
such as .exe.
4. Ask the Exchange server administrator to change the security settings.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
Thanks and regards

As of 2014-March, the same thing happening on my system. This seems to have occurred, after the latest batch of 28 patches (including SP2 - KB2687455) from Microsoft Updates applied on 13-Mar-2014 and 19-Mar-2014. I have been running Outlook 2010
since it was first available.
An unhelpful error is thrown, after trying to manually perform a Send/Receive:
Not Implemented
While in Outlook 2010, clicking FILE > INFO reveals the following warnings in red:
"Upgrade in Progress. Your mailbox is currently being optimized as part of upgrade to Outlook 2010. This one time process may take over 15 minutes and performance may be affected while the optimization is in progress."
There's an "Upgrade Now" button but it fails to produce any visible result. Next to the button, another warning in red:
"You must upgrade to the latest version of Outlook Hotmail Connector to continue using this e-mail account."
Again, I do not have the Outlook Hotmail Connector installed. Nor have I recently upgraded to Outlook 2010.
I am unable to access ANY account settings, as well as poll my various mailboxes.
While reviewing the list of installed updates (Control Panel > Programs and Features > View Installed Updates), there are 28 approximate patches -
specifically, Service Pack 2 (KB2687455) - that were recently applied to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.
Microsoft, what the #$%# is going on?
I've read some related posts that suggest the core issue is other than what Outlook is reporting. The posts recommend the following. However, in my case, the below steps did not correct the
issue. In fact, the new profile would not allow me to view/manage the associated accounts or data files.
(1) Remove your current Outlook Profile. No worries - this doesn't affect your mail data (.PST files):
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/outlook-help/remove-a-profile-HP010356455.aspx
(2) Create a new Outlook Profile:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/outlook-help/introduction-to-profiles-HA010355553.aspx
Note: Outlook complained "An unknown error occurred, error code: 0x80040154." However, exiting the Mail config window and relaunching shows that the new profile is intact.
(3) If you previously had the Outlook Hotmail Connector installed, reinstall it. If not, then just ignore and the warning should go away after creating a new Profile.
32-bit connector: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24677I was able to resolve this issue as follows. However, why it occurred is unknown at this time and
unrelated to a corrupted Outlook Profile, as mentioned on my prior post. It seems highly probable that it was caused by the recent batch of Microsoft Updates for this product which included Service Pack (SP) 2.
1) Performed a "repair" of Outlook 2010, via the Control Panel > Programs and Features.
2) Rebooted.
3) Prior to launching Outlook, returned to Control Panel > Mail and configured the location of my PST file (not in default directory).
4) Had to reestablish as off my mail accounts, settings/preferences/etc. This step was the most tedious and frustrating. -
Default account setting in Outlook 2010 does not work when composing new messages?
Hello,
I am currently using Outlook 2010 (not beta). I have two accounts, a google imap account and a pop3 account. I have designated my IMAP account as my default account. As I understand it, this means that when I create a new email,
it should default to being sent from my IMAP account. However, whenever I create a new email, it defaults to the account which I am currently viewing in Outlook. In other words, if I am currently viewing the pop3 inbox, when I compose an email,
it will default send from that account. Conversely, when I compose an email while viewing the IMAP inbox, it will default send from that account.
Any ideas as to what is going on? This is rather frustrating because I only rarely send with my pop3 account--only when replying/forwarding email received with that account or other unique situations. Is there a way to make Outlook be true to
sending from the default account, without doing something drastic like disabling the secondary account?
Thanks in advance.
RomOf course it's a bug.
Computing Dictionary
bug definition
programming
An unwanted and unintended property of a program or piece ofhardware, especially one that causes it to malfunction.
The behaviour itself may be considered a feature by Microsoft, though I disagree, but the fact that one thinks one is specifying a "default" account that is not then used as the default in all cases is clearly a bug.
It is astonishing to me that in the plethora of options, advanced options and advanced advanced options there is not a checkbox to enable this new behaviour with the default being unchecked.
Microsoft does it again. -
Outlook 2010 attachment size limit
We're using a sendmail server for our email and have been using Outlook 2003 for the client. I'm evaluating Outlook 2010 but we've hit a snag. Total attachments over ~20MB result in a "The attachment size exceeds the allowable limit".
This works fine under 2003.
How can I fix this?Hi,
First, please let us know the email server you are using. Is it Exchange and what’s the version? Also, does this issue occur on all the client computers or only
one some of the computers?
As this issue might be related to some settings on the Exchange server side, you may also contact your network administrator to check the settings on the server side.
If there are no attachment limitation settings on the server side, we can troubleshoot the issue by the steps below:
Step 1: Disable background transfer of attachments to the Exchange server.
=============
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you
follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
1. Run regedit on the outlook client computer that has the issue.
2. Locate the following registry key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook]
3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Value name: DisableBGSave
Data type: REG_DWORD
Radix: Hexadecimal
Value data: 1
Note: You will see the Policies key if policies are deployed in your environment. If so, add the registry key under the following registry key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook]
4. Restart Outlook and test the issue again. Is the issue resolved? If the problem persists, let’s continue.
Step 2: Start Outlook in online mode/safe mode.
=============
1. In Outlook, click File > Info > Account settings > Account settings.
2. Click your Exchange account, and click the
Change button, then More settings,
Advanced tab. Uncheck Use cached Exchange mode.
3. Exit Outlook . Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to
Microsoft Office.
4. Press and hold the
CTRL key, and then click Microsoft Outlook.
Is the problem resolved? If not, let’s continue.
Step 3: Create a new Outlook profile.
=============
1. Exit Outlook.
2.
Go to Start > Control Panel, click or double-click
Mail.
Mail appears in different Control Panel locations depending upon the version of the Microsoft Windows operating system, Control Panel view selected, and whether a
32- or 64-bit operating system or version of Outlook is installed.
The easiest way to locate
Mail is to open Control Panel in Windows, and then in the
Search box at the top of window, type Mail. In
Control Panel for Windows XP, type Mail in the
Address box.
Note
The Mail icon appears after Outlook starts for the first time.
The title bar of the Mail Setup dialog box contains the name of the current profile. To select a different existing profile, click Show Profiles, select the profile
name, and then click Properties.
3.
Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
4.
Click Add.
5.
Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
6.
Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.
If this problem does not occur in the new Outlook profile, the old Outlook is corrupted. We can delete that and use a new Outlook profile.
Step 4: If it still not resolved, create a new Outlook profile on another PC that does not have this issue, then check to see if it persists. This can help us to narrow
down that if the issue is specific to the machines.
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for
you, please feel free to let me know.

Blocked Senders feature in Outlook 2010 does not work
I have a specific blocked sender
[email protected] listed in my Blocked Senders list, but emails from that email
address still go to my Inbox instead of the Junk E-mail folder.
We use Exchange for email, and Outlook 2010 as the client.
Note: this sender is blocked for a specific sender that he configured through Junk E-mail Options in Outlook 2010, and this sender is not blocked at the server level.
I only have one account set up in Outlook.
What do I need to do to get Blocked Senders / Junk E-mail working in Outlook?
Thanks,
ElizabethHi,
From your description, I suggest you try to check the total size of blocked sender list. As total size of all lists combined cannot exceed 512K. Once the 512K limit
is reached, Outlook alerts you and additional addresses aren't saved until you remove some from the list.
If your issue is caused by the limited size, you can add a new registry key value to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem\
Add a new DWORD value of Type Max Extended Rule Size and edit the Value Data, entering the maximum size (in bytes) you want to allow.
If your issue is not related to limited size, try to keep your junk e-mail filter updated. Each version of Microsoft Outlook that contains a junk e-mail filter receives updates to the data
file (outlfltr.dat) as part of the Microsoft-wide monthly update released on the second Tuesday of each month. The updated outlfltr.dat is the result of the evaluation of hundreds of thousands of spam messages and constantly increases the filter “catch”
rate for incoming junk email.
The recommended way to obtain updates to the Outlook Junk E-mail filter is by turning on the Automatic Updates option in the Windows Security Center.
If you have done all above but it still not work, try to create a new outlook profile to test this issue.
Go to Start > Control Panel, click Mail. The title bar of the Mail Setup dialog box contains the name of the current profile. To select a different
existing profile, click Show Profiles, select the profile name, and then click Properties.
Click Show Profiles. Choose Prompt for a profile to be used.
Click Add.
Type a name for the profile, and then click OK.
Start Outlook, and choose this new profile.
Sincerely,
Harry -
Outlook 2010 attachment previewer problem
Dear All,
I recently upgraded to the office 2010 beta, and have been quite pleased with the new system, until i tried to view an image that was attached to an email. I keep getting on any type of image or pdf that the previewer is not available ad to double click to open the file. I then get photo viewer telling me it can't open the file. So i saved the file to my desktop and try to open the jpg in any program such a photshop, illustrator or fireworks and it tells me there is an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found."
I can't open any files that are attached to emails, which is getting really annoying now. I have tried everything i can think of, running outlook as an admin, turning off image previewers, checking image previewers are enabled, i've tried the protection settings, and disabling it for Outlook.
Nothing will work. I've searched google and found a few solutions where they say this is caused by google desktop search causing problems and that uninstalling it solves the issue, however I don't have google desktop search installed, just google toolbar.
Its starting to drive me round the bend, i've even ran and repaired the pst file which didn't make any difference either.
Have reported it as a frown but not holding my breath for a response.
System:
Windows 7 64 bit
Office 2010 32 bit beta version
The laptop is 2 weeks old from Dell and all updates are applied.
Can anyone shed any light?
Thanks
TomI am having a problem which is a variation on the same theme. What is even more odd is that I have a laptop and desktop which I installed Outlook 2010 on and they behave very differently. On my laptop, I can easily view all doc and docx
attachments, while on my desktop, these very same attachments are not recognized or are considered as corrupt documents. I have been fiddling around with trusted locations on my desktop (e.g., trusting my server folders etc.) but so far no success -
even after reinstallation of 2010 on the desktop. My laptop's Outlook works fine without having to trust any particular location. I installed Outlook on my desktop after doing a fresh install of the XP OS while the Outlook installation was an upgrade
of Office 2007 with a fairly weather beaten XP registry. So currently, I see no rhyme or reason except that it appears that the 2010 installation is highly highly sensitive. Hopefully there is a quick fix to this or I might also have to roll back
to an earlier version of Outlook.
Had the same issue.
Here is the fix
Hello,
I finally found out what the issue is with this. It actually isn't a "Protected view" issue, but a DCOM issue.
Somehow the DCOM permission got changed, so it wouldn't allow certain applications access to simple things like Preview mode on Outlook 2010 / 2007, or opening up attachments without it saying file corrupt. I also was having an issue with Pop ups in
IE8, where javascript messages about security tokens were not authenticated.
The solution is as follows, and then you can turn on your protected mode back on in word, excel, and your "Preview mode" in outlook will start working again.
Go to start, then run. Type dcomcnfg and push o.k. Component Services should come up.
Expand Component Services, click on Computers, then "Right click" on My Computer and go to "properties".
Click on Default Properties tab, and make sure the following is set:
Default Authentication Level: Should say Connect, not "None"
And Default Impersonation Level: SHould say Identify.
When those are set properly, hit o.k and turn on your protected mode back on your Office applications. Everything works as expected :)
Cheers :) -

Outlook 2010 webcal not syncing with iCloud
I've got Facebook events exported to Outlook 2010 as a webcal, but only my default calendar will sync to iCloud. How can I get the webcal to also sync with iCloud and my iOS devices? I've tried closing outlooking, re-setting up the iCloud control panel system, then re-opening Outlook (which fixed the fact that my tasks weren't syncing). But still no look on the webcal sync. Anyone got any ideas please? The iCloud and iTunes add-ins are enabled too.
The key to solve this problem is to sync webcal and icloud to your default outlook calendar, and as far as we know, outlook can not sync webcal to default calendar, and icloud control panel can not map icloud calendar to outlook default calendar.
but if you use ECO , it will allow you to sync webcal to outlook default calendar and sync icloud calendar using your default outlook calendar -
Outlook 2010 will not sync at all
I have a Iphone 3Gs and Ipad 2 both on IOS 5. Using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010. I have stopped using iCLoud and now Outlook will not sync at all. I turned off iCloud on the devices. While working with Steve from Apple customer care we restored the Ipad 2 to New, and I have uninstalled the downloaded MIcrosoft office version and reinstalled it using the CD. It still will not sync any information. Could the problem be due to the iCloud section still shows in Outlook but I get a "The set of folders can not be opened The information source can not be opened" error" Im not sure where to go from here? I dont understand why restoring to New would not work.
I have not done anything with the phone (other than stopping icloud sync contacs & calendar on phone) until I get I find a solution that works.Hi,
I got the same problems with win7 and outlook 2007.
My iphone 4 does the sync (supposedly) actions but there is no iPhone Calendar items. on Outlook's Calendar and vice versa, no Outlook Calendar items on iPhone calendar. The Contacts sync gives the same results.
The same thing happens with iPad syncing to the same computer's Outlook.
But the strange things are still to come: When I do the iPhone sync to Outlook, then the iPad, I find iPhone items on the iPad; then I do the iPhone sync again, iPad's items are synced to the iPhone.
It looks like there are hidden Outlook Calendar and Contact files that are synced wiith the iPhone & iPad!
I too get the same error message, Outlook Sync Client has stopped working.
