Outlook 2010 hangs when opening emails from a certain sender

I have a problem when we a receive a notification email from a certain sender.  The email is actually from an internal address within the company.  We receive email notifications when we receive a voice mail on our phone system and that email
is what is causing the problems.  The email we receive is very basic and just has a small amount of text saying "IP Office Voicemail redirected message".  When I try to open the email (or view when the reading pane is enabled) it hang Outlook
for about 20-30 seconds.  This happens with every notification email we receive from that address.  I tried locking up Outlook when it was hanging to see if I could get any error messages.  In Event Viewer I got this:
"The program OUTLOOK.EXE version 14.0.7113.5000 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel."
Things I have tried:
Clean install (of both Office and Windows)
Removing and recreating the Outlook profile
Setting Outlook to "Read all standard mail in plain text"
Updating Windows/Office
Setting our voice mail server to send from a different email address
Opening Outlook in safe mode
We are on a domain with Exchange.  This started happening a couple of months ago.
Any ideas as to what I can try next?
Thanks.

Hi JW_IC,
Does this issue occur OWA?
If OWA not hangs, it seems an issue on the Outlook client side.
I found that you have done all operations on the Outlook client side and still not worked.
How about following the error message, "To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel",
to check the problem in the Action Center control panel. Please paste the details without sensitive information for the further troubleshooting.
I suggest updating Outlook 2010 to the latest version for test.
Thanks

  • Outlook 2010 hangs when opening older calendar items

Hi,I have a really odd issue. One user has a bit of a vague issue - where Outlook 2010 (32 bit, on Windows 7 64) freezes up (not responding) when user is trying to open a calendar item he has created himself in a group calendar also created by himself. So, a quick google search finds, besides a lot of advertised non working items, in general tips like "check mailbox size" (User is at 70% of allowed size, where allowed size is a mailbox of 1GB)Or, run outlook in safe mode to see if any add in or plug in causes this. Sadly - in safe mode exactly the same happens - Outlook stops responding. No other user has the same "owner" rights on this calendar, so it`s hard to reproduce. And now for the really odd one - any item listed before June 1st (2015) causes the issue. Any item from June 1 and onwards opens as it should.I have difficulties wading...

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.3 hangs when opening project from JDeveloper 11.1.1.6

Hello! I have a problem here which I can't solve. I also asked this question here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14365031/jdeveloper-11-1-2-3-hangs-when-opening-project-from-jdeveloper-11-1-1-6/14369211#14369211 . The whole story in short. I have a JavaEE client-server project in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6, where it works like a charm. Recently I had to upgrade JDeveloper version to the latest 11.1.2.3. The first problem was that the standard procedure of migrating project from the older version of JDeveloper to the newer one did not help: IDE was hanging forever all the time with no apparent (for me) reason, log file was silent about that. Then I tried another way: I just created the same project from the beginning and put there all necessary source files, libraries, set project properties etc. Still nothing, but now found the way to obtain a kind of error at least. I ran C:\Oracle\Middleware\jdeveloper\jdev\bin\jdev.exe from the command line and got the following (e.g. when I started running debug):
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:09 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
    Jan 16, 2013 8:52:10 PM oracle.ideimpl.runner.StarterFactoryDescriptionImpl logError
SEVERE: Incorrect hash-structure value in starter-factory definition
But I don't know what could be the next step... Could anyone help me? Thanks in advance for your attention!

    Hi,
not sure if you have a support contract or work for Oracle. In both cases the best option is to file a bug (service request)

  • Microsoft Word Hangs When Opening Document From SharePoint 2010 Document Library

I am running into an issue where Word hangs when opening certain files from a document library.  When the issue occurs, Word opens and hangs at the Downloading <Doc URL> stage.  I have tried disabling the SharePoint plugins in IE and that
makes no difference.  I can download a local copy of the file and open in just fine.  The file in questions exists in a separate document library where it can be opened just fine (The file was copied to the library where the issue is occurring by
a Workflow).  The issue also has only occurred on .docx files and not .doc, however, not all docx files are having the issue.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that when you opened a certain files from a document library, it hanged at the downloading stage.
I tried to reproduce the issue, after coping by a workflow, the .docx files opened well in my environment.
Did the issue occur in other documents libraries? You can copy the files to a new documents library by workflow, then check whether it works.
For more details we also can check the SharePoint ULS logs.
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS
Have you check your IE settings (Tools->options->connections->LAN settings->uncheck Automatically detect settings).
Please also use fidder tools to detect the process. You can download it by the following link.

  • Outlook 2010 hangs when loading in "processing"

After upgrading from Windows 7 home to ultimate I am having problems with Outlook 2010.  When staring the program hanks up on "processing"
Any idea what I can do to resolve this problem?
    Pheresisman

    Hi,
First, I suggest you try to start Outlook 2010 in safe mode [hold ctrl key while startup] to see if this issue is caused by some add-ins.
If it works fine in this situation, try to disable add-ins.
Click the File menu –> Options link –> Navigate to Add-Ins options.
    Select
Disabled Items in the Manage dropdown and click the
Go button. This would display the following Disabled Items window using which you can see and also
re-enable the disabled add-in. You can select the ones you wish to re-enable and click the Enable button.
Second, ensure Outlook 2010 are not running in compatibility mode,
    Locate C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 Outlook.exe
    Right-click
    Outlook.exe, and then click Properties.
    On the
Compatibility tab, click to clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.
    Click
OK and try to start Outlook again.
    Hope that helps.

  • Mail app crashes when receiving email from a particular sender

    HI All,
Here is a problem I'm facing, Mail App crashes while receiving email from a particular sender. I'm testing our new Email Hosting solution "Rackspace" and it works fine with all other Email clients or on deveices (Android, Windows Phone & Blackbarry) but on Iphone 4s (IOS 6.1.4, i guess) it crashes the Mail App.
The email I'm using is sending over to an email at ttv-asia.com domain. The user of ttv-asia.com is based in China and just to see if the problem is with the Iphone, I've tested the Iphone's Mail App in Hong Kong and it works normal.
So now... Im confused and have no Idea on how ro fix this.
    ~Ray
    <Email Edited By Host>

Sorted, it seems that livemail configured for exchange and having Google premier for exchange, results in the mail app on the iPhone crashing, when selecting an email in the Google exchange mail box, then calling up the folders , it crashes. switched off livemail mail, worked fine.
    Weird.

  • Outlook 2010 freezes when pasting text from email into filename

I use Microsoft Outlook 2010 (32-bit version), in a 64-bit computer (Dell laptop) using Windows 7 Enterprise, SP1.  (I work in a company and can't change what version of the Outlook program I am using.)  If I copy text out of an Outlook email,
and then go to save the email by printing it to a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat X Professional, and I try to paste the copied text into the file name I am typing for the email being saved/"printed", then Outlook freezes on me.  I've
noted that I can copy text from other programs (such as WordPerfect X3 or Adobe PDF files), and successfully paste them into the file name without Outlook freezing.  I can also copy text from an Outlook email, paste it as plain text into a WordPerfect
X3 document, and then copy that same text again out of the WordPerfect X document, and I am able to successfully paste the text into the file name of the email I want to save without Outlook freezing (i.e., moving the text out of Outlook and then back
again to Outlook somehow sanitized the text so it wouldn't freeze Outlook).  Note that my office switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 a few weeks ago, and I also received a clean installation of Office at that time.  This problem did not exist prior
to the change to Windows 7.  Does anyone know what is causing the problem?  Is there some setting I need to change in Outlook?  (Maybe I had the Outlook setting correct in the old installation of Outlook, but the new Outlook installation wiped
out my prior settings, and the new default setting recently installed is creating the problem?)

    Hi,
First please make sure your Office is up-to-date.
I suspect this may be related to some 3rd-party add-ins or the security software, first please run Outlook in Safe Mode to determine if 3rd-party add-ins are related:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem copying and pasting in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
Please also disable the anti-virus program temporarily to check if this makes a difference.

  • Outlook 2010 hangs when selecting a meeting invite

Sometimes when the users click on a meeting invite from a user from a different company (Full Trust between domains)Outlook shows the
"Searching for this meeting..." message and hangs. According to Microsoft this is just checking the conflicting appointments and this message should disappear after few seconds but it does not. The only way to recover outlook is to
end the outlook.exe task from the task manager. I have tried creating new outlook profile, new ost file or even a different computer but the issue remains. Can't find any solution on the net. Any help will be appreciated.
The email account is configured to use an Exchange server... and the computer is connected to a domain. The email is coming from a company which has full trust with our company's domain.

    Hi,
Does this issue occur on OWA?
If not, I would suggest we use the process monitor to see where does Outlook hung when opening the meeting request.

  • Mail hang when getting email from multiple POP accounts

    I'm posting this issue again.
Mail hangs while getting new mail from multiple POP accounts almost every time. When it does, only Force Quit can quit it.
The following DID NOT fix the hang:
    - Reconstructing all mail boxes
    - Exporting, deleting and reimporting all mail boxes
    - Disabling all rules
    - Deleting anti-spam history
    - Deleting all emails from all mail boxes
Testing each POP account individually while putty the other two offline works fine.
I also noticed that sometimes the new mail counter in Inbox displays 2-4 new messages while there is no new ones. Switching boxes/folders and back to Inbox fixes it.
    The POP accounts are:
    One plain text POP
    One secure POP
    One GMail POP
    Can anyone help?

    You’re welcome.
I did try to clear the junk mail preferences
The Junk Mail preferences cannot be “cleared”. What do you mean?
it crashes almost every single time.
It doesn’t crash (i.e. quit unexpectedly). It freezes (i.e. becomes unresponsive), right?
I transfered my data to a Mac Mini. I had the same exact problem on it too!
so it seems it has nothing to do with the OS plugins or the setup I have.
Well, that would depend on what exactly does “I transfered my data” mean...
Try first disabling all the rules in Preferences > Rules AND the junk filter in Preferences > Junk Mail. If the problem persists, proceed as follows.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move any “IMAP-”, “Mac-”, or “Exchange-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all the mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Some emails from a particular sender causing Outlook 2010 to hang, task manager shows memory use spikes

Posting this to the Exchange forum because I'm hoping there's a server-side solution.
SOME emails received from an external sender (gmail.com address, not sure the mail client) are causing Outlook 2010 to hang when trying to open the email.  Outlook becomes non-responsive when viewing the email through the preview pane or by double-clicking
the email.  If I open Task Manager I see that the outlook.exe process memory use starts increasing very quickly.  As far as I know the only resolution is to end the task and re-open Outlook (and avoid that email).
I've found several excellent threads on these same symptoms, but there seems to be a variety of causes.  I've tried a bunch of things so far:
     - Tried opening from another system on our network running Outlook 2010, same issue.
     - Tried opening from OWA, opens fine.
     - Tried exporting the email to a PST, then opening from a completely different system outside of our network, but still running Outlook 2010, same issue.
     - Tried exporting the email to a PST then opening from a completely different system outside of our network, running Outlook 2013, email opens fine.
     - Tried setting Outlook to open all emails as PLAIN TEXT, opens fine.
Systems are running the latest Outlook 2010 SP and patches, and running a variety of OS's.  Only common denominator seems to be Outlook 2010.
I was hoping to find a way to convert incoming emails from this sender to open as Plain Text using a Hub Transport rule, but cannot find a way to do it.
Unfortunately I have no control over the sender, so don't know what could be triggering the problem.
Can anyone advise on a possible solution?  Any way to someone convert emails from a particular sender to Plain Text automatically?

Either you inform the sender to configure in sender's outlook to send only to you in plain text please check this
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-001/outlook-help/change-the-message-format-to-html-rich-text-or-plain-text-HA101992313.aspx
    Or
Call a macro in your outlook example below. Please check
    this for details
    Dim msg As MailItem
    For Each msg In myNS.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox).Items
       If msg.Unread = True And _
         msg.SenderName = "Linda Cooper" Then
    Item.BodyFormat = olFormatPlain
       Else
         ' Message doesn't meet criteria.
       End If

  • When I email from iPhoto, separate emails with a photo on each, the email received on an iPad  shows the first picture opened is shown in all the other emails.

When I email from iPhoto separate emails with a different photo on each, the email on my iPad opens each photo attachment as the same photo sent on the first email.  This only happens when I use iPhoto to email.  My daugther was sending pictures this way and at first it worked but now it does this same thing.  Any suggestions?

First try this:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and do the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Second, if the above fails  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the problem persists.

  • Outlook 2010 w/GoDaddy IMAP email syncing

We're having a host of issues that may translate to Outlook not being an ideal client for IMAP, but I am hoping the forum can provide insight to determine if it's a provider issue or a MS issue.
Specifically, we're having an issue using Outlook 2010 with the IMAP solution from GoDaddy.
After email is received in the Inbox, if the user manually moves emails to non-IMAP folders (an offline PST), they will appear to move to the folder, but then reappear in the inbox a short time later. This also happens with deleted emails- they'll disappear
from the inbox only to reappear a short time later. If you check webmail, you will see that the moved or deleted email still resides in the inbox. (Note- if you are working in webmail with Outlook open and delete a message from within webmail, it's instantaneously
deleted from the Outlook client, which is great, but we need it to work from within the Outlook client this way too- it deletes or moves immediately on the server).
It seems that what is happening is that either Outlook is not sending the proper command to the server that a message was moved or deleted OR perhaps the server gets the command, but fails to perform the action.
GoDaddy said that the only thing it could be is a "known Outlook issue" wherein message flags are not being delivered to their servers from the Outlook client. I've asked a number of reliable engineers and they've never heard of this issue (but think IMAP
    is wonky in general).
I have a harder time accepting that because other IMAP accounts seem to work in Outlook, and if flags/commands were not being sent from Outlook, then in theory, none of these accounts should work. Additionally, it's not consistent- sometimes it does work.
Outlook settings are correct according to the provider. Also, in Outlook, under More Settings->Deleted Items we DO have the Purge
items when switching folders online option checked, as most of the time, we do want the deleted items to go away if we switch folders. I have noticed that sometimes, but not always, if I move/delete a message and then switch into the folder where
it was moved to check that it is there (or another folder entirely to do other work), it doesn't return to the inbox as described above. It's not reliable, and isn't a real solution to the issue, and is not practical to do every time.
It's a huge problem for us because if you spend 40 minutes filing away your email only to have it all pop back to where it was, you've wasted a huge amount of time.
    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Here is what you may try:
    1. Firewall and anti-virus software. Turn it off to check the result
    2. Any add-ons effected. Start Outlook in safe mode to test. ("Outlook.exe /safe")
    3. Test compact the folder after deleting an email. It might be an known issue with Thunderbird client.
    4. Any mobile phone sync with account? Remove all mobile device if you have.
    Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Tony Chen
I disabled AV completely and Outlook 2010 with IMAP still has problems with disconnects & timeouts.  I recently contacted GoDaddy about this very same thing and got the exact same responses, and Microsoft still denies there's a problem...
These Outlook/IMAP problems have persisted for YEARS!
The problem seems to be one of performance – synchronizing IMAP folders is terribly slow, resulting in chronic disconnections, timeouts, delays of ~4 minutes to delete a message, and lots of user frustration that takes up a lot of my time and I cannot justify
billing for it all. This morning one of my clients reports Inbox messages that have already been read and filed into other folders have just reappeared in their Inbox. I think this is symptomatic of the overall performance problems.  The situation is
horrible and getting worse. GoDaddy & Microsoft need to resolve this NOW.
The problem appears to be Microsoft's.  I have recently tested Outlook 2010, Windows Live Mail 2012, and Zimbra (open source) on the same Windows 7 computer accessing the same GoDaddy email account using IMAP.  Outlook and WLM always have problems,
disconnects, timeouts.  Zimbra exhibits none of these problems.
It seems to be related to either Microsoft's IMAP protocol timeouts, or IMAP error response handling, or inability to properly handle multiple IMAP threads (for users with lots of sync'd folders).
Also, telling users to remove mobile devices, or create fewer folders with fewer sub-folders and fewer files in each negates the primary reasons for using IMAP in the first place, so stop it.  We desperately need REAL solutions!

  • Cannot open emails from Hotmail

I am having trouble opening emails from Hotmail in the Mail tool.  I have other email accounts that are working fine.  It worked prior to yesterday.  The various messages that I have seen are:
    "Cannot get mail"
    "Cannot connect to server"
Even old messages that I had previously viewed are not available.  When I try to open them, I just get the "Loading . . ." message.
I am also seeing this same problem with the same account on my iPad.

This seems to fit.  I use Outlook.  I sent a test email and it went through fine.  My Inbox seems to be working now, but other folders are not.  Thanks for the quick reply!

  • Outlook 2013 crashes when opening Calendar search result

I have a user who uses her Outlook 2013 calendar extensively, mainly to note for herself when she has spoken to a customer, and creating appointments for when she needs to speak to them again. (This is outside of our policy to note the contact in
MS CRM.) She can have scores of such Calendar items each day.
When seraching for these appointments in her Calendar, she gets the list of results, but Oulook crashes when she tries to open any of them. Sometimes Outlook restarts on its own, sometimes she must relaunch it herself.
Related threads reference a wwlib.dll error, but she is not getting that. It is Outlook.exe itself that is crashing. There are other threads that reference other open windows, or items containing webpages or tables, but these do not apply to her, either.

My understanding of the Scanpst.exe process is that it also disables any addons which might cause crashing, but the issue is still being experienced. Running Scanpst.exe a second time (appending the previous log, although it seemed to actually prepend the
file) only returned a few lines from the top of the result above ending with "Attempting to validate BBT."
Fixes not attempted yet that I have found performing searches include running the Office Repair tool, or checking for KB2817631 (a Word update that is apparently having adverse affects on Outlook, not attempted yet because it seems to be related to the wwlib.dll
error, which is not happening here).
    Any thoughts out there? Thanks!

    Mavis,
Thanks for the reply. Running Outlook using /cleansharing and
/cleanroamedprefs did not have any effect when used individually or in combination with each other.
Running the Search Index Rebuild option also did not seem to do anything, as the pop-up message indicated that it may take a long time to finish, and yet seemed to finish instantaneously, not giving any indication that the indexing took place. The option
window immediately said "Indexing complete" for 23,755 items.
As to the Outlook Forum, they are the ones who directed me to this forum (you can see the thread on the Answers support page under Office - Office 2013 - Microsoft Office Outlook - Office on Windows 7, under the title "Outlook 2013 restarts when
opening Calendar Search result item" first posted on Dec 11, 2013), as Girish M felt that it might be due to Exchange, and not Outlook. (I have no reports of any of our other users on the same Exchange server having the problem with their Outlook, but
they also do not use it the way this user has been.)
I can repost the issue there, or continue the same thread, if you think the issue lies with them. Was the "Answers" site the improper place to post, perhaps? Should it go in a different thread on Technet instead?
    Thanks for your assistance!

    Thanks again!
