Outlook Questions

I have a few questions about outlook.
Will it sync with outlook 2007 and when you create dates and contacts on the iPhone does it send them back to outlook?

Yes and yes.

  • Deleted Items recovery in Outlook question

I recently implemented a policy to users deleted items boxes via Exchange Server 2007.  I applied this policy to just a few users to test it out and all appears to working well.  The policy is set to delete any items that hit the deleted items
folder and sit there for seven days.  My question is in regards to the deleted items recovery feature in Outlook.  Does the policy I created in Exchange overwrite the server deleted item retention of 30 days?  So, being that I currently have
the Exchange Server deleted item retention set at 30 days when I click on my deleted items box in Outlook and then on the Recover Deleted Items option under tools I should see 30 days of deleted emails right?  When I do this I only see two emails though...
Can someone help clear this up for me please? Thanks - Abacus

    Hi,
    What’s the version of Outlook?
Deleted item retention must be configured on the server. Otherwise, there will be no deleted items
stored in the dumpster available for recovery. By default, the DumpsterAlwaysOn
registry key is set to 1 in Outlook 2007, so all folders are enabled for deleted item recovery. By default, all folders are recoverable on the Exchange server.
In Outlook 2003 and earlier versions, only the
Deleted Items folder is enabled for recovery by default. All folders are recoverable, however, you must enable the ability to see the items in the dumpster. You must use the DumpsterAlwaysOn
registry key to recover hard-deleted items, which are those items that were deleted while holding down the SHIFT key and that were never moved to the
    Deleted Items folder.

  • Outlook question

I'm ready to switch from a Treo 700w to a Blackberry 9630. Problem is my employer will only support windows based phones. I use outlook at work and want to use email, calendar and contacts on new phone. I know I can get emails easily enough from work outlook to new phone, but not calendar or contacts. I do not have admin rights and can't download software.
My question is.....Is there a way to somehow get my calendar and contacts onto the the new Blackberry?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
If I understand you correctly, you will be configuring your BB to sync, via BIS, OTA for your email against your firms internet-facing OWA server. That should work just fine (as long as your firm hasn't installed ISA...in which case it won't work). See these instructions:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03133
However, BIS will only provide you with OTA email delivery (fyi -- don't expect sync -- you will only receive emails starting at the point you activate...nothing old will come to your BB). Nothing else will come to your BB OTA. Your only native-BB option is to install the desktop software on your PC and then use tethered sync for the other items. But, if you cannot install software on your PC, then that will not work.
I have heard of some folks pushing their calendar and contacts to Google and then being able to sync that OTA to their BB. I've personally never tried that and can't seem to find any instructions for it. You might try searching these forums. You might also try searching for some sync add-ons for BB -- AstraSync? I think that might be one of them.
Now, if you could install the DTM software, you could use the device switch wizard...

  • Basic sharepoint-outlook question

Sorry folks if this is obvious, but we've just started using sharepoint at work...
I've accidentaly linked a massive network folder (via outlook) to sharepoint and now want to disconnect it - at the bottom of my outlook folders I have sharepoint lists and if I right click the folder I want to disconnect I have a Delete Folder option -
my question is: if I do this does this get rid of the local copy stored on my PC only? (I definately don't want to delete the folder off the shared network drive!!).
    Cheers,
    Rob.

    Hi !
Deleting the SharePoint List folder from Outlook will not delete it from SharePoint. Go ahead and remove it. To make sure the SharePoint folder does
not sync again, follow the below steps after you have removed the SharePoint List folder:
    1. Launch Outlook.
    2. Go to Tools > Account Settings > SharePoint Lists tab.
    3. Double click the SharePoint List that you want to delete from Outlook.
    4. Check the box that says "Don't display this list on other computers I use" and select OK. This takes you back to the SharePoint
Lists tab - click the list you wish to remove to highlight the list.
    6. Click the Remove Button above the list.
    7. Click Close.
    8. Close Outlook and open again.

  • Mail vs Microsoft Outlook Question

    Hi,
I am new to macs and I would like to know what is the difference between Mail and Microsoft Outlook other than free.
    Thanks

For Mac, the Microsoft product is called "Entourage." It's just like Outlook for the PC. I use Outlook on a PC at work and Entourage at home.
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/entourage2004/entourage2004.aspx?pid=entou rage2004
The biggest consideration for me is that it's an all in one organizer. So if you work from email and are used to creating tasks and calendar events from email, it's a good choice because it's the same as Outlook. Plus you can accept Outlook invitations from coworkers.
Both can connect to an Exchange server if you need it.
If you just need to check mail, Mail.app is way easier to use and better looking and more elegant because it's made by a superior software development organization.

  • Possible convert to Blackberry from Palm - please help with outlook questions

I'm debating switching from a Palm Treo 800 (battery life is awful) to Blackberry Curve. I chose the Treo because of active sync with my work exchange server and ability to open Office documents.
Currently, I sync my outlook mail, tasks & calendar with work, and my contacts & notes with my home computer. So if i follow your instructions for using BIS instead of BES (my employer only provides BES service for a carrier which is not mine ...), will I be able to sync manually with a cable to my work computer for  calendar & tasks and then to my home computer for contacts & notes?
I have to decide THIS WEEK if I'm going to switch from Palm to Blackberry, so please hurry! The blackberry seems like it's a lot more fun than the Palm, and your support is much more extensive and user-friendly!

Ok, so if both machines are Outlook based, I would not see a problem,
You would need  2 DM programs one at work and one at home.
For work you can specify sync for tasks and calendar, for home sync contacts and notes.
Both calendars would have to be the Outlook calendar as default.
You can the have the synced BB and would have the ability to backup on both machines, or better yet, back up on one machine to eliminate confusion. In case of failure, you have a backup of ALL data.
You wouldn't have to convert anything because Outlook is fully compatible with the Desktop Manager.
    I don't see a problem.

  • Upgrading to Office 2013, have an Outlook Question.

Several years ago, I deployed Office 2007 using the Office Customization Tool.  I did that for two main reasons: I didn't want to have to type the product key 25 times and I pre-configured Outlook so that when a user logs on for the first time, Outlook
created a profile for them and was ready to go, without them needing to know anything.  Nothing fancy, nice and clean.
I want to do the same thing with Office 2013. But I'm confused on how to get the same results with Outlook.
I could choose to leave the default Outlook Profile alone and everything would work.  The problem is that if I do that, then all of my new machines (or freshly reloaded machines) wouldn't have a default profile.  I want to be able to keep the default,
working, profile in place if its there, else I want a new profile with proper settings created.
I think the option I want to choose is to "Modify the existing profile", but I'm concerned that by doing so I'll destroy settings that my users are already used to, like rules and additional mailboxes to open. (We have a shared mailbox used by
our SPAM Filter that everyone has access to.)
The idea behind all of this is I'm lazy and I don't want to recreate things that are already working if I don't have to. :)
So, I'm here to ask for help...can someone give me guidance?
    Thanks in advance,
    PacketLoss

    Hi,
Please try to remove the WiDi software/USB, restart Lync 2013 and then test the issue again.
Please also try to uninstall NVIDIA drivers and then reinstall them.
Here is a similar case below, and there are a lot of settings will cause this issue, you can check with it:

  • Close Outlook automatically and save open items to drafts

    Hello
I have the following problem: some of my customers work with Outlook + POP3 (no Exchange Server) and from time to time an employee forgets to close Outlook after working hour. Because of the open PST-File I have problems with the backup (the open PST-File is
in use and therfore the backup fails). Now I have wrote a small script to kill the outlook process on every machine at 10 p.m. But the next day when the employee starts Outlook he gets an annoying message about the PST-File was not closed properly and he has
to wait up to 10 Minutes until Outlook starts. So my question: is there a tool or a script to close outlook properly?
Btw: I have already found some sripts to close outlook in a decent way BUT: if the user has an open New E-Mail Window open all the scripts I found where not able to handle this situation - this is because in that case Outlook asks whether you want to save the
open New Massage to Drafts or not (and Outlooks does not close until you press the YES, NO or CANCEL Button.
Here is one of the Script I found (AutoHotKey Script):
    SetTitleMatchMode RegEx
    IfWinExist .*Microsoft\sOutlook
    WinClose .*Microsoft\sOutlook
    ExitApp
This script works perfectly when no additional Outlook Item Window is open - Outlooks then closes properly and no problem arises with the PST-File. But as already mentioned when the user has a open New Item Window (e.g. new Mail he just started to compose)
Outlook does not close but asks the user what to do. What I need is a script or a program that answers automatically to the Outlook question dialog box "Do you want to save changes?" YES and then closes Outlook properly. The next Day the user will
find his new / unfinished Mail item in the drafts folder.
I have also found a small program called "Close Outlook" by Douglas J. Nakakihara. But this tool also fails when an open (new) Message Windows exists.
    Any ideas?
    Markus

    This code works for me
I created a batch file CloseOL.bat to call the CloseOL.vbs.
Here's the code for the batch file:
    @echo off
    cscript "CloseOL.VBS"
    :EXIT
And here's the code for CloseOL.vbs:
    Dim oOL 'As Outlook.Application
    Dim olkIns
    Set oOL = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
    If oOL Is Nothing Then
'no need to do anything, Outlook is not running
    Else
        'Outlook running
        Do while oOL.Inspectors.Count <> 0
            For each olkIns in oOl.Inspectors
                    olkIns.Close olSave
                Next
        Loop
        oOL.Session.Logoff
        oOL.Quit
    End If
    Set oOL = Nothing
    Hope this helps

  • Excel freezing and Outlook losing Add-in

I am having two issues on a workstation running Office 2013 home and business. The first issue is Excel randomly freezing when opening spreadsheets, it's random and will open two spreadsheets ok and freeze on the third and vice versa, there's nothing wrong
with the spreadsheets. When it freezes it gets to the point where half the excel interface is loaded and locks up (it isn't not responding in Task Manager, still says running) and I have to close Excel and try again.
    - Tried full Office repair using online recovery
    - Tried different user profile
    - Tried opening spreadsheets from a network location and local drive
    - There are no errors in the Event logs regarding this at all
    - Disabled AV software, all Windows updates installed, still happens in Excel safe mode, disabled all excel add-ins
    - Run full virus scan, gone through and closed all the processes on the machine that I can, tested excel after stopping each process
    - Run full windows memory diagnostic and no errors reported
    - Computer is HP workstation only couple of months old, all latest drivers and updates
    - The workstation is running Windows 7 x64 Pro, Trend Micro AV software, part of a SBS 2011 domain.
The other issue I am having on the same machine and reason I ask the question here instead of creating a new thread is because I thought they may be related. We use an Outlook 2013 add-in but on this machine every time we close Outlook the add-in disappears
we actually have to go back in to Outlook each time and re-enable it and it works ok.
I can only think of two options one is complete removal and reinstall of Office which I don't think will fix the issue or complete format/reinstall of Windows which will be very time consuming and would rather not do.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for the detailed information you gave, it was very helpful. After read though your post, could you help me on some questions:
    For Excel crash:
    Questions:
Is this the only workstaion which having this issue?
Is this issue happen on particular spreadsheet?
What is the cpu model of this workstation?
Was this issue starting suddenly? If so what has been changed on the server?
Some steps I would suggest to try:
Clean boot your workstation and try to open the spreadsheet again.
Delete temp files of current user.
    Disable hardware graphics acceleration
File: Options: Advanced: Disable hardware graphics acceleration.
Also please collect some information for me and send the information through mail to: [email protected]
    Click on the link below.
    http://support.microsoft.com/sdp/0B22492D3336343838333834303043
Click on the Run button (recommended) to start the diagnostic process.
Follow the onscreen instructions to run the diagnostic on this computer, or on a different computer.
    For Outlook
    Questions:
Is this issue only happening on this workstation?
Is the Group Policy set in your domain to control 3rd party loading behavior?
Does Outlook start up slow? (Sometimes if Outlook start time exceeded threshold, add-in will be disabled)
Some steps I would suggest to try:
Change registry key under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins(name_of_the_addin), set load behavior to 3, which specifies that the add-in is loaded at startup. For more information, see
    LoadBehavior Values.
    Delete registy key under: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\outlook\resiliency\disableditems\
Let me know the result, so we can check further, thank you.

  • My MacBook Pro has downloaded my old emails twice into my Outlook folder. Why? How do I stop this from recalling all the old emails?

My MacBook Pro has downloaded all my previous emails (several months worth) and reloaded them into my Inbox twice! Why is this happening? How do I get it to stop from happening again?

  • ATT00001.htm attachment in Outlook when sent with Apple Mail

    Title:
Mac Mail att htm issue in outlook
    Question:
I'm using mac original mail software. I did set my HTML style template. The software is best ever.
And works good when I send email to outlook users on PC. However if I attach PDF for example, it does go through and outlook users get it, however when they open message all they see.
    - attached PDF
    - and att00001.htm file which has inside email text
Not everybody gets idea to open it and thy think it is empty email. The same email will be sent to apple user everything looks properly. Why email text is converting into the htm file? It happens only if i attach something to my message, if I don't then email text is not being converted to htm attachment.
I think there are a lot of user that know this issue, did anybody find a solution yet?
    Thank you
    jhyiesla:
I don't think there is anything you can really do about it.
I think that it's how the receivers program is going to interpret it.
For example, I sent an email to my Outlook account from my Mac with just an attachment; no text. I looked at the email in Outlook 2000 and I see the attachment as an item in the body text section of the email. When I look at that same email in Outlook 2003 the attachment shows in the attachment area under the subject line and the body text area is blank.
Then I sent another one with an attachment and some text in the body of the email. In Outlook 2000 I see the text in the text area and the attachment as well as a attxxx file in an area at the bottom of the email. The att file was empty. In Outlook 2003 that same email as the attachment and the empty att file in the attachment area at the top and under the subject line and in the body text area of the email is the text that I typed.
Although Mac Mail uses standard protocols, which is why you can send an email to a Windows PC, it just does some different things. In the WIndows world Outlook and Outlook Express also handle some things differently.
    Goldblum:
    Thank you for your reply
This issue makes mail.app useless, do you have any recommendations?
Other client which are as good as the mail.app or would be nice to know what is forcing to convert body text to attachment? I could reduce beautiness of my email template by taking out header (jpg) or not using rich text. What exactly is forcing outlook to convert body to attxxxxx.htm file?
    jhyiesla:
I truly don't know the answer to that question. Sometimes similar things happen coming the other way. I'll get emails in to my Mac Mail that have jpg files and I'll see the actual pictures in the body of the email.
I happen to also have Office 2008 for the Mac installed and when I sent my self a message and looked at it in Outlook 2000 and XP, the email looked "normal" in all instances. The attachment was marked as an attachment, text was where it should be and no att file.
There are other email clients that would probably work on the Mac like Thunderbird... but I'm guessing that you'd have a similar thing as happens with mac mail. Still it might be worth the download to test it out.
    Goldblum:
I used entourage and same HTML template for email and have no problems. It is just so that entourage is as any other MS product "broken" out of the box but did good job and same message is not being converted to HTML attachment when it goes to outlook on PC. I will continue researching internet because it has to be solved. I can't send a message to client without comment to attached invoice. This is so not professional. I will play more with settings of mail.app to see what else can be done to avoid conversion.
    jhyiesla:
Entourage probably works well with Outlook because they're both MS products and MS is going to have somewhat similar looks to all their Office products... although there is quite a bit of difference between Entourage and Outlook.
Here's a link that may help you on your search:
    http://email.about.com/od/macemailclients/tp/free.htm

As mentioned, Outlook is not email standards compliant. It probably never will be based on Microsoft's history. However, I think there are various issues involved in the problems people have. I often send emails from home to my Outlook account at work. I have never experienced any of the problems that I've seen posted anywhere regarding Mail and Outlook.
My conclusion is that there are issues with certain Exchange Server configurations and/or issues with your own ISP mail server causing the issues.
I do have my system set up to Always send windows friendly attachments (from what I've read, this really is 'send Outlook friendly attachments'), and always put attachments at the end. Prior to the 'always put attachments at the end,' I wasn't having any issues, either. However, I read that that setting helped with other email clients, so I use it.
The obvious question is, "well, how is your exchange server configured." I would love to provide the answer to that question; however, I work for a DoD organization, so actually tracking down the person that knows the answer to that question will take somewhere between five years and never. With my 20+ years experience with the DoD, I'm leaning towards the never end of the spectrum. The other half of the equation is, "I'm using cox as my ISP."

  • How to transfer Outlook Notes to Mac

    Hi,
I recently bought a Mac and want to convert my "Notes" from Outlook (work PC) to my Mac. I do not want to use Paralles, ideally i just want to run the info under "Mail" or any other program which works.
Any idea, how i can import this?
I am really sorry if this has been posted somewhere already, but most outlook questions refer to contacts or calendar, all of which i have no problems importing.
    Thanks,

  • Outlook Calendar and X-Server

I purchased the newest version of MS Office for Mac. I had no difficulty setting up my X-server mail account on Outlook Mail. Is there any way to use the calendar feature of Outlook with my X-Server (like you can with Windows Exchange Server)? I currently use iCal on my desktop, which is networked to my X-Server. iCal is not as robust as Outlook calendar. It is important that I be able to share my calendar with others in my small office. I cannot tell if Outlook calendar has the capability of accessing a CalDav account that is set up on my X-server.

  • Outlook contacts & Comcast problems

    I'm a total Newbie!!
I have 2 problems.Until I purchased my 8130, my email & cell contacts were completely seperate.I synced on Outlook and it worked perfectly.
    1. My first problem is that I can not "import" my address book from Comcast. All my old emails transferred over w/o a prob.I am now adding email addresses as I receive them or from old emails.Any suggestions?
    2. Now that I synced, I have a mess of contacts on Outlook from my BB in almost no particular order. This may be more of an Outlook question, but I'm not sure how to "contain" this mess to get everything organized. Not sure the difference of address book and contacts on Outlook.I don't need my "cell phone" contacts mixed with email addresses.
I do have an Outlook manual, but haven't found anything.
    Any suggestions?
