Overclocking msi x340

It would nice if msi could provide a bios with OC control so it would easier to overclock and more stable. a bit like the wind netbook.
being able to overclock 5-10-15-20-25%..... would be great
It is a known fact that the su3500 is easily capable to go to 1.9ghz stable with setfsb.
the acer 1410 with su3500 has the same hardware as the x340, except that it has 2 dimms for the memory.
they overclock very well to 1.75-1.9 ghz and that even with the memory overclocked so the cpu is not a problem.  temperatures are also similar to
stock.  thanks to speedstep its not always at full blast.
there is a big improvement in performance.
MSI if you read this it would be nice if you could offer a new bios for this. lol
I tested mine to 1.6ghz and that already makes a good improvement , especially for multitask

Some more info I discovered on this:
I've got both laptops,
An MSI X340
An Acer Timeline 3810T
Both are equipied with SU3500, and same Northbridge.
The Timeline goes 1750mhz at 250 FSB easily, rock-solid stable.
The MSI is stable at 1610 mhz (230 FSB). Beyond that FSB chances to get a BSOD increase. At 237 - 238 FSB you get BSOD in windows within no time, at 235 FSB you get BSOD when loading the CPU
I think the problem here is are the memos.
The Acer has DDR3, while MSI has DDR2.
The Acer memory (DDR3) probably works great when overclocking it to FSB -> 250 MHz x 4 = 1000 MHz since it handles higher speeds,
however the DDR2 probably is 800MHz, so pushing it to 230x4 -> 920MHz could be too much for a DDR2.

  • Overclock MSI Eclipse Plus with Intel Core i7 920

    Hi,
I need help on how to overclock MSI Eclipse Plus with Intel Core i7 920?
    Here are my system spec.
    MSI Eclipse Plus
    Antec Quattro 850W PSU
    Corsair TR3X6G1600C9
    120GB Sata HDD
    Rgds

With a stock Intel CPU cooler, I don't recommend going past what default voltages can achieve, excluding maybe a memory voltage increase or timings adjustment if needed. Some utilities are very important to have before starting to OC such as Real Temp & CPU-Z. What are your CPU & IOH temps reading in bios H/W Monitor? The temps of the individual cores is also very important, which Real Temp will provide you with.
As mentioned, with a stock cooler, I would suggest not going past about 3.507 (bclk 167 X 21). Other settings need to be changed before this is done however. We need those temps too, before specific settings can be suggested. The last thing any of us want to do, is make settings changes & voltage recommendations that may damage your system.

  • Overclocking MSI X58A-GD65

    Greetings to all!
I would like to overlock my computer properly in order to be able to achieve better perfomance in gaming
That is due to the reason I don't want to spend more money to this computer (I have already spent a lot)
    My system build is:
    Tower: CoolerMaster Cosmos RC-1000
    PSU: CoolerMaster Real Power M850
    CPU: Intel Core i7 920
    CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster V8
    Motherboard:  MSI X58A-GD65
    RAM: OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Intel® i7 Triple Channel [3x2GB, 1600 MHZ, 8-8-8-24
    SSD: A-Data X25 80GB by Intel (Model: SSDSA2MH080G1GN) [Sata 2]
    VGA: Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB
    HDD1: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB (WD1001FALS) [Sata 2]
    HDD2: Western Digital 250GB [Sata 1]
    HDD3: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB (WD6402AAEX) [Sata 3]
    Optical 1: Samsung 223QRSMN DVD-RW [Sata ?]
    OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
As you can see my build can  be considered high-end.
So far I have overclocked CPU to run at 3.0 GHZ and RAM speed at 1800 MHZ.
If I set CPU to run at a higher speed the system boots fine but the OS refuses to start
Also I have encountered some hang ups in games. I believe it's because of the automized RAM timings.
In order to overclock I have to access the "Cell Menu" in BIOS Settings.
The Cell Menu has exactly these options:

Ouf, that all the options in Cell menu... This motherboard must have been designed for professional overclockers.
So any suggestions, any guides that I should follow?
I have heard and seen on the internet that Core i7 920 can reach 4,0 GHZ but not quite stable can I achieve such perfomance with good stability?
How do I get the real full specifications of these RAMs?
Should I enable some of the CPU features to conserve power and have a better temperature?
Should I enable also green power?
PS) Again to clarify it. I'm aiming for perfomance.

It does not make sense to try overclocking the CPU and rhe memory at the same time, as it does not allow you to know if stability problems are caused by instable memory settings or instable CPU related settings.
Because of that, you should split your whole OC task into two obectives:
    1. Objective:  Overclock the CPU, not the memory.
    2. Objective: Once the desired CPU Overclock is reached & stable, start worrying about the memory.
To reach your first objective, please keep your memory speeds as low as possible (keep it @DDR3-1066) and focus on the processor only.
So should I leave all the RAM options to Auto?

  • Help overclocking MSI X58 Pro-E with a i7 920 co stepping

Good evening everyone, I would like some help with getting the best overclock I can with my rig. This is what I have: Msi X58 Pro-E, Intel core i7 920 co stepping, Corsair Hydro H50 cooler, 3 x 2 gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600 c9, EVGA GTX260-216 SC 896mb, 1 TB Western Digital 32cache Hard drive SATA, Lite-on DVD/RW with Lightscribe, OCZ Stealthxstream 600 watt PSU.  Running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Currently it says that the memory is only running at 500 mghz. I can use all the help I can get. From what I have read it should overclock fairly well.  Thanks for your help John

Currently it says that the memory is only running at 500 mghz.
Using CPU-Z? If so, 500x2=1000. For a simple OC without having to do much of anything, change bclk to 166/167. Be sure to disable Spread Spectrum in bios Cell Menu. Go up from there until it fails to post. Add a step or two of CPU voltage & check for post again. At some point, RAM speed becomes a factor, & other voltages & settings join in the mix. Primarily, the main items involved are bclk, CPU & RAM voltage, QPI voltage sometimes at some point, RAM timings, Memory & Uncore Ratios. Other than that, disable Overspeed Protection, C-State, Turbo on or off, EIST on or off. Most important, know the operating temp & voltage limits.

Hey all... I've got a FX5700 256MB Video card installed on my computer, and I'm thinking of over clocking it (dispite that fact that its new). Does anybody have any idea how overclockable this card is? the model name is MSI FX5700-VTD256. (the stock clocks are 425 MHz core and 500 MHz DDR memory)

  • BIOS Overclocking MSI 7191

Hello, i have a MSI-7191 and 4200+ X2 CPU.. i tried bios overclock this mobo without success.. :(
You can help a search a bios add overclocking option
Sorry for my english.. i'm italian
    Thanks in advance

RS482M4, you can not OC on that MB no matter what BIOS you have. Best MB for OC with that CPU is K8N Neo4-F (PCB 1.0), K8N Neo4 Platinum (PCB 1.0)
I had the Neo4-F and could get up to 2.9 Ghz for everyday OC.

  • Overclocking MSI GF4MX440SE-t (8847)

I have a MSI 8847SE-T (GF4 MX440SE GPU). What is the ns rating
for my Samsung memory chips ?
How far I can overclock this card from 250mhz core and 166mhz 333DDR ram ? There is no RAM sinks on the memory chips. There is a fan on the GPU.
Anyone of you have tried O/C it? Can please tell me what is the maximum speed you have reachead ?

You can read this:  >> Posting Guide << and start out on the right foot by letting us know what all of your hardware is. Important in regard to OC is the brand and model number, what size and how many sticks for your RAM. Please create a signature as indicated in the guide also so that the information shows in every post you make. Look at other signatures to see examples of what I mean.
To begin with, the RAM is the last thing you want to OC, concentrate on the CPU 1st. Leave the RAM at the lower default SPD speed for now.

  • Overclocking MSI GF4 ti4200td 4xagp

I was wondering if anyone knows what are reasonable overclocks for the msi gf4 ti4200 td 4x agp card. Today I adjusted the core to 300 and used the auto adjust feature for the memory and got it up to 567. Things are running stable but I was wondering if this is too high or if there are any limits I should not pass? Can it go higher? I only have the default heatsink and fan for the GPU and no heatsinks on the ram. Should I worry about temps?

If you aren't getting artifacts on your screen then I think it should be fine. Run a few more games and watch for colorful pixels. If you get them then clock down a bit.
Have Fun, don't blow your card

  • Overclocking MSI RS480M2

I'm using and athlon 64 3000+ with a msi rs480m2 mainboard, i want to overclock my system to 2GHz, how do i do it???

The RS480 and RS482 boards does not support overclocking. The BIOS locks you to the rated speeds of the CPU only, and the chipset as such has quite limited overclocking capabilities.
In principle you might be able to overclock these somewhat via software, but not much, and some of the MSI software available for these purposes is said to work on these boards as well, but it's not a supported configuration or meant to be done. The boards are not designed with overclocking in mind, rather stable and affordable desktop systems for normal office use.

    0219577,
I've hit 3.1 fully stable with the 5000+. I also managed to load windows at 3.2 but wasn't fully stable (temps too high). If you have some luxury cooling I'm sure you'll get very far with a K9A. But I must say the nVidia chipset on the K9N share more options.
But why you want to replace a AN9 Fatal1ty board I don't see the sense. Is it terrible for overclocking or something?

For the processor try the jumper on the mother board MSI have a guid on the motherboard download section. Start at the lowest setting and try each
I found on my P43-F that the first and third setting worked ok but the second wouldnt allow it to boot very much trial and error I didnt push it to the top og the range but settles for a FSB of 334 (Oldo ne was 233)
works fine not tried to overclock memeory yet but you can do this through the bios

i go into bios and set ram at 400mhz, set agp at 67 mhz. then open center and enter 210 mhz fsb. when i start madonion, it freezes. is it my memory?

Could be a ram incompatibility issue.  I have some OCZ pc3500 EL which is great in my other systems, but doesn't work in the Neo without bluescreens and crashes to desktop.  It might also be a power related issue.  What type of power supply are you using and what is the amperage on the 12v rail?  That seems to be pretty important for this board.

Quote from: flobelix on 10-March-13, 21:40:22
Overclocking is a matter of the individual sample. Some cards of the same model might clock great while others won't.
    Quote from: hurricane28
I heard that the first cards would be able to put more volts but the later cards having volt locks because its high potential?
If so could i get the older bios versions of that card or get another bios on my card?
It just don't seen fair that the first cards could overclock way better than the latest cards.
and it is not that some cards are better ans some are not because this is my second card i get because i was thinking it was broken because of my problems.
Nvidia forced all card manufactures including MSI to remove GPU overvoltage above 1.175v. It has nothing to do with potential but Nvidia dictating to stop overvoltage. MSI is therefor not allowed to offer unlocked versions. Again overclocking is a matter of the individual sample and your 660ti PE is already higher clocked by default than most other manufacturer cards could do with manual oc.
