Overpriced upgrade option, or something Im not seeing?

I'm looking to buy a MacBook Pro as I am an avid Video Editor (Final Cut Studio, yay) and I also need a Laptop.
I was looking at the 17" MacBook Pro and all its upgrades (Processor, RAM, and Harddrive) and I noticed it was $250 to upgrade from 2.5GHZ Core2Duo to 2.6GHZ.
I am quite knowledgeable in Windows PCs but haven't owned a Mac yet and I may not be seeing something. As far as a PC goes, 2.5 -> 2.6 is NOWHERE near $250 difference. Is there something about this processor upgrade thats not described fully on the website? Because I cant see even considering that expensive of an upgrade.
Can someone tell me the full tech spec details of upgrading to 2.6ghz option? (You don't need to dumb it down, Ive built PCs for years so Ill understand all the technical stuff)

Well, the Apple price is roughly 10% cheaper than making the same jump with a Dell, Xathian!
They currently quote an additional $275 for the "jump" from 2.5 to 2.6GHz on a Dell XPS M1530 or M1730

After HDD Upgrade and Restore from TM, Not Seeing critical Software Updates

I recently upgraded my Hard Drive from 250GB to 320GB (my bro had one laying around from another MBP). I restored from my TimeMachine Backup and everything went very smoothly.
However, I now noticed that there are some issues:
1) I am *still* running Safari 5.1.3, 5.1.4 was released weeks ago and it is not showing as an option to update in Software Updates.
2) There is a very critical Java update that I really need to install that is *also* not showing up in the list of available Software Updates.
3) When restoring from TM Backup, it doesn't create the Restore Partition automatically.
I was able to fix Item 3 above by simply downloading and reinstalling Lion, nothing was bricked on my machine or files lost from my reinstalling.
However I am at a loss as to how to fix Item 1 and 2 above.
Any ideas? Apple Gurus?

Yes it is. I tried it (as a test for myself) a couple of weeks ago. I admit I had a current bootable clone in case something went cuckoo.
I made a current TM backup and then erased my internal HD. When I booted from my software install DVD, I was given the TM restore option. I did not reinstall OS X on my internal HD first.
It worked perfectly for me, by the by.

I just upgraded to Lion and my Imac is not seeing my recently updated calendar events placed on ipad or iphone.

I do a have back up from time machine but probably from a week ago. i back up to an external drive and I know I made a big mistake by not backing up before the upgrade. just wondering if there is another local copy of my most recent iCal as part of the upgrade process on my macbook.

Okay; more details. I have account A with Main adress email No1, and as rescue adress email No2.
Then, I have an account B with Main adress email No3, and as rescue adress email No4.
I want to change Account A to have email No4 as Main adress, but it does not let me as Adress No4 is already used in account B.
So; I try to change the rescue adresses.
When I connect to accoun A, I see all the options explained, and I can change the rescue adress. But when I connect to Account B, I do not see the same options in the "Security and password" section. Therefore; I cannot change the rescue amail. Can someone help ???

Call Apple Care for your country and request that they assist you in resetting the security questions.
To authorize/deauthorize a computer, go to the Store dropdown menu in the iTunes app.

Just upgraded to FF 13 and not seeing site conent on new tab page

I upgraded from FF 9 or 10 to 13. I have not been able to see any site content on my new page tab. Ive cleared my cache restarted in safe mode and disabled all extensions and add-ons. Im still able to see content. Im only able to see the boxes where the content would be and the urls. Click on them works but without content showing the page is slow to use.
I followed the steps here but it didnt help.

hello, sorry the i misread your first post - i thought even no pages show up. the thumbnails will also only work at the moment when disk cache is enabled (from your submitted system details it appears it is not) - please allow firefox to use at least a small amount of cache on the harddrive in preferences > advanced > network & restart the browser, then the thumbnails should regenerate when you visit the pages afterwards.
edit: in case the above does not work, enter '''about:config''' into the location bar of the browser, search for the preference named '''browser.cache.disk.enable''' and toggle it to true by double-clicking on it...

NC6320 upgrading Hdd to Seagate - will not see it ??

I wanted to upgrade my Hitachi HTS541660J9SA00 60G Hdd to a Seagate ST9250315AS 250G Hdd, but when booting to install the XP OS. It will not reconise/see the Seagate.
Any reasons why, the jumper is set for a limit of 1.5G/sec.

XP installation requires a SATA driver to be loaded as part of installation. Full instructions are provided in the General XP Downgrade Guide in this board here:

This Guide refers to the consumer line of laptops, not the Business series as you have. You have the advanatage of HP's providing all the Xp drivers you need on the driver pages for your model, unlike consumer models. However, you still need the instructions for how to get the hard drive recognized during install. In that respect yours is the same as the earliest dv6000 series models using the Intel ahci7 storage (SATA) driver. Follow the instructions for making an nLite modified Xp install disk. I just did an nc6320 with XP about a week ago and I can tell you the nLite disk I had originally made for a dv6000 Intel model with this AHCI driver from HP:

I've checked your account, and all is well there. Please make sure that you're logging in with the same Adobe ID/password that you used when you signed up.
Then, clear the browser cache, and try logging in directly to https://cloud.acrobat.com.

When viewing the Contact Certificates, I can see the Import option, but I do not see the option to actually save the Certificate from the original email.

The title pretty much explains it. In Outlook 2013 when I add a new contact, their certificate is not getting added to their contact page. When I look at the contact certificates section, it is blank with only import as an option.
I have been able to export a cert from the email and then import it to the contact but it says "Persona not validated"

Yes, this is the behavior when you didn't import any Locate Certificate into Outlook contact item. How you export the cert from email? A bit more exact steps how you got to this point would be helpful.

I am not seeing export to Excel option in SharePoint 2013 survey (even in the overview view mode)

If anyone could point me in the right direction as to what steps to take to enable the export to excel option in a sharePoint survey list.
all other surveys are showing up that export to excel option.
I am not seeing the view dropdown as well which shows up on right (the only way to create new view is through the URL as of now)
Constraints
Survey already has several responses now so making a new survey is not an option
(I know that when is any custom view is changed to default view and if Overview is made as the default view again this option goes away, but how to get this export to excel option back?)
Steps taken till now
Checked in SP designer as to which field is set to default and it shows overview as the default.
Checked whether any web part was closed and it seems there was none else closed web part category would've shown up
Saved the existing survey as template both with the content included and without the content (without the content template has the export to excel option showing up)

Create a simple list and hit export to excel to create owssvr.iqy file
Open that file in notepad
Collect Survey list' GUID and View GUID from SPD. You need to change the pointer to test list to survey
Change list GUID and view Guid

My solution to not seeing devices in Airport Utility & iTunes

Since I let Airport Utility upgrade to version 5.4.1 I have had all sorts of problems seeing devices on my wireless network. From the PC desktop where the upgrade took place, iTunes could not see remote speakers on an AExp and Airport Utility could not see either my AExt or my AExp. I tried eveything I could think of; resetting devices, reloading older versions of software, turning off the firewalls, etc.. I talked with a very knowledgeable Apple tech-supt person for a long time.
The overall configurations is deskyop PC w/ Vista; HP laptop w/ Vista; older IBM laptop w/ XP; Airport Extreme on 5 Ghz; Airport Express on 2.4 Ghz bridged to AExt. All PC were running NORTON 360.
The solution at least for me:
1) Upgraded iTunes to version 8.1 because I ordered a new 4 GByte Shuffle. Not here yet, it actually shipped directly from China via FEDEX currently in Memphis.
2) Then I noticed if I turned off NORTON 360 firewall I could see remote speakers in iTunes.
3) Tried Airport Utility, with firewall off, I could see AExt & AExp. This despite with iTunes ver 8.0 I had tried the same thing without success. Yes I know I did, I worked for over 40 years in computer field, so when trying to diagnose / solve a problm I keep very detailed notes.
4) Then started researching NORTON 360 and discovered a very new release version 3 had come out in last week or so. It got very good reviews in terms of new features and speed enhancements on the internet.
5) The price was right, free if you have an active subscription for NORTON 360. I downloaded it and installed it. All issues immediately went away. Please read I am now a happy camper. Installed it on the other two laptops same result. They claim it will install in less than 1` minute. Not quite, but pretty fast. It also speeds many things up, like itunes loads in a reasonable time. It actually seems to be Apple aware.

7) Life is good! I have no affliation with Norton, just have used their products for a long time.

Can your computer "see" this network? If so, be sure that you connect to it first before attempting to access it with the AirPort Utility.

Laptop does not see wireless j4680 printer

I have an HP Officejet J4680 printer connected wirelessly to my HP desktop (Windows Vista os). I am attempting to print from my lenovo t500 laptop (Windows XP os) which is using the same wireless network as the desktop. I have set the printer as shared on the desktop and am trying to install the printer on the laptop but am not able to. When I use the 'Ass a Printer' Wizard I have tried both the Network and the local printer options. It does not see the printer at all. Any suggestions? The laptop is for work and I log on to business via VPN - do not know if thisis a factor.

I am confused. You say that the printer is connected wirelessly to an HP desktop. Is this through a router? What kind?
While connected via VPN no other network devices can be accessed (like a networked printer) nor can any other device access the computer on a VPN.

Go to Settings>General>Keyboards>Predictive Text>ON. If it is on, you can toggle it off and then back on. The other method is to check in the typing area of the Messages app and it could be minimized. You would see a small line in the center just below the typing area. You would just need to put your finger on that small line and swipe upwards. But either should bring it back.
