OVMM stops periodically

Long story short, I've done a tech refresh on my home lab and I'm converting from VMware ESXi to Oracle VM Server. I've run into a few snags with the install process, but I've managed to install the VM Server on an Asus RS400-E8-PS2 (dual Xeon 2560v3 w/ 64GB RAM) and VM Manager on a separate x86_64 host with Oracle Linux 6. The end game is to get VM Manager onto my VM Server as a virtual machine; however, because I've noticed that there is no way to directly access a VM on VM Server like I can with ESXi, I'm moving a little on the slow side to ensure everything works as expected.
This is where I get into my issue. My VM Manager host will stop the ovmm service after some time of being started. I can start the service with no issues using "/sbin/service ovmm start" and I can utilize the web portal for some time after the service has been started. However, after some undetermined amount of time, the ovmm service will stop and I won't know unless I try to go to the web portal and I get an "unable to connect" error from my browser.
This leads me down one of two roads:
1. Does anyone know why this is happening or if there are any logs I can look into to see if I can find why the ovmm service stops.
2. Because I've seen some information about VM Server being application aware, will this situation get cleared up by making VM Manager a VM on VM Server?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure if I was unclear with my previous post, but I'm tracking with your first paragraph explaining OVS and OVMM. I thought I made sense, but now I see I was jumping around a little bit.
Let me backup a little with some back story. First, I will list out the players (computers) involved.
1. OVMM 3.3.1 - currently a dedicated OLE 6 computer that only has 2 GB of RAM. I know the lack of RAM is an issue and that is why I stated earlier that I would like to make OVMM a virtual machine.
2. OVS(1) 3.3.1 - currently running but does not have any virtual machines or additional network configuration applied.
3. OVS(2) - does not have the hypervisor installed yet, I want to see OVMM working as a virtual machine first.
4. FreeNAS - File server that will host storage via iSCSI to allow a common storage between both OVS hypervisors. (Not configured yet on OVS)
As mentioned before, the issue is the fact that OVMM stops unexpectedly and the web service https://ovmm-server:7002/console/ and https://ovmm-server:7002/ovm/console/ become unavailable. This is confirmed by getting an "unable to connect" error from Firefox and Internet Explorer as well as running the command "/sbin/service ovmm status" on the OVMM server and getting the response "Oracle VM Manager is not running..." I can start the ovmm service without any errors.
When I got home from work today, the ovmm service was stopped while it was started when I left home this morning (about 10hrs earlier).
Taking one step forward, you mentioned the AdminServer.log file and here is the tail end of said file.

Earlier, you mentioned that the only reason you knew of for a OVMM to stop unexpectedly was because the database would become unavailable. In your opinion, does that look to be the case in this situation? Could this be a side-effect from not having the minimum RAM requirements?
Moving forward into a potential workaround (given this is a home lab and I don't mind a quirk or two), I've discovered/noticed that SSH is enabled on the OVMM host. I didn't do anything special to enable SSH, but at this point I don't really mind the fact that it is on. Given that I can start the ovmm service through the SSH console using "/sbin/service ovmm start", and it has been stated that the OVS hypervisors will continue to work without an active OVMM then I'm thinking I can use a combination of Putty and the previously stated ovmm start command to get me back into the OVMM console via https://ovm-server:7002/ovm/console/.

Full Stop/Period turned into circle

I can't enter a full stop/period into text. One day "double space bar" produced a small circle instead of ".". I cannot insert via symbol keyboard or via "double space bar". My messages look wrong and I cannot enter email addresses as can't produce the fullstop/period. Please tell me how to fix. Thank you.

Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness shows up, the first thing to try is a proper reboot:
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. If this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Listener service stopping periodically

Hi all,
My Oracle 10gR2 listener service has been stopping periodically around 9.00am every monday for the past 4 weeks now. I checked every log files (alert log, listener log, OS SuSE Ent Linux log) and nothing was reported. Once I restart the listener service, every thing will be back to normal.
Has anyone exprience this before or anyone has an idea on what is happening?

Video's Sounds Stops Periodically

Just what it says, the movie will play for awhile then freeze for like 5 seconds then resumes without audio. Also I can't get any audio when using a H264 video file. Help Please

I don't know if this has been covered in another topic, but I'll try my best to answer your query.
I'm assuming that you:
1) Have a 60GB iPod with video
2) Have upgraded the firmware on it to 1.1 using the 2006-01-10 Updater
Ok, this issue where your video files stop, or the sound stops periodically onlly seems to be affecting users who meet the above criteria.
The only way I have know of to stop the pauses, is to run your video files through Quicktime Pro and choose "Export" from the file menu.
Once the Save as dialog box appears, set the export type to "Movie to MPEG-4" and then press the options button.
Once the options appear, choose "Pass Through" from the Video Format drop-down box, and then do the same for the audio too...choose "Pass Through"
Then export the file to a directory of your choice and then drag and drop your new file into iTunes or directly onto the iPod icon in iTunes.
I have found this to work, and so far the largest video file i have is over 1GB.
I'm sorry but I'm unable to help with your H.264 issue, as I'm not that savvy! Most of the info I've found out has been by trawling the net!

Audio book stops periodically when using headphones - Iphone 5

Anyone having this problem on iPhone 5? I have used 2 different headphones with the same result. Using Etymotic HF2 and HF3 with the same problem.
I am listening to an audio book and then it stops. Pressing pause and play does not get it going, but if I unplug the headphones and plug back in, then I can hear the audio book again. Then some minutes pass and the problem repeats.
Wondering if some OS bug or with my physical phone.

Though this may sound silly, blow in the headphone port.
Sounds like maybe some debri might be in there.
I doubt it'd be the headphones since two different ones are having the same issue,
Though if you want to be thorough, try a third pair if you have them around just for some overkill haha.
Other than that what I could suggest would be re-syncing the audio back into the phone or a backup/restore to see if it might be software.

Sound Stops periodically

Hi, I Post this message because I've been experimenting a problem with my 160 Gb Ipod Classic. It suddenly stops sound for 1 second more or less, then it continues playing music perfectly. It does that when it wants, without a set frequency.
I have restaured it already twice. What could be?

Hard Reset the iPod as below- this does not delete or erase any song or data.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.

Internet address with full stops (periods) why error????

Am I missing something but I can't get JavaMail InternetAddress to accept email addresses that have full stops in the name part of the address.
e.g. conrad.crampton@ britishlibrary.com
conrad.crampton@ kent.pnn.police.uk
(spaces in here deliberately)
there are so many email addresses that have '.' in them so are they or not valid???? If not, how do I make them valid for the purposes of JavaMail - can they be surrounded by "" or the . escaped (\.)??
Any suggestions as this is just bonkers!

You are correct in your assumption that this is happening when Transport.send(message) is called.
I don't quite understand about the address not being in the mail server. The mail server I am using is one internal to my organisation (groupwise server), and I am trying to get a mail sent to an outside address in the format given before. The address is valid as far as a Groupwise client goes (and any other client I care to mention), so why is it rejected by the mail server? Does it have to be able to resolve this on some DNS somewhere?
This all sound a little naive but it didn't occur to me to have to understand the minutae of messaging in order to use JavaMail.

Fan starts and stops periodically on new Eee

Hi,
unfortunately, there's an annoying flaw with my newly obtained Eee: It's all in all a very nice and useful netbook, and I love the fact that it's both light and quiet, it's barely hearable at all. If the fan starts though, I need earlaps.
The overall temperature is very high also, but I think this is normal with those new netbooks. Usually the temperature is about 60°C. I noticed that the temperature gets higher very easily, and after some time, the fan starts working and it's annoyingly loud. After some time, even with small applications running the fan would start, makes some noise, and quits afterwards until some minutes later it will start again and again and so on ...
Usually, I install everything that is mentioned in the Wiki that has something to do with power control, e.g. cpufreq, pm-utils, acpid but I still suffer from nuisance. I tried both ondemand and conservative governor, though the fan doesn't mind. I wouldn't mind working with low CPU speed if just the fan wouldn't start even when I just chat or browse the web.
If this procedure starts at one time, it's difficult that the fan would rest even if the temperature is low again. Once I want to play a video on YouTube or something similiar, the fan will overtune the video. I can't even imagine what I do that needs so much resources. If I observe the temperature in /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/TZ00/temperature, the temperature jumps some degrees higher just when I click some widgets (or write this text) ...
Has anyone an idea what I could do to get a little bit of silence? I can't imagine that this behaviour is normal, and I would appreciate any hints.

In the end, if nothing helps I'm thinking about buying a cooling pad for notebooks, if I get the chance ...

I found the granularity of BIOS-level fan control to be quite lacking too.
The kernel (eeepc-laptop module) provides fan control in /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon0 by default. There are several interfaces. Usage examples:
pwm1_enable shows if software-side fan control is enabled (1) or if the BIOS is handling the fan (0). Changing fan speed won't work if this is 0. (i.e. cat /sys/class/hwmon0/pwm1_enable reports 0 -> disabled; you could enable it with echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon0/pwm1_enable).
pwm1 allows to change fan speed. The values range from 0 (fan off) to 255 (full speed, 12V).
fan1_input shows the current RPM if a fan is connected. You can only read from this interface. Its useful to check all of these in the each of the hwmon folders to find out if there is actually a fan connected to the fan controller (they often have more ports than mainboard manufacturers use).
There are various applications to utilize these in order to tweak fan control to your liking, a lightweight one is the fancontrol daemon. If you don't mind 'some' gnome dependencies, eee-control has an awesome fan control algorithm too (options -> smart fan control).
laptop-mode and acpi-eeepc-generic don't feature fan control.
The cpufreq utility has only a marginal impact, as it changes the FSB/CPU multiplier and the Atom has a measly TDP of 2,5W compared to the chipset's 6W - the fan is primarily need to cool the northbridge. Side note: There is an interface to control FSB clock rate: /sys/devices/platform/eeepc/cpufv. 2 is 100MHz, 1 is 133MHz, 0 is 140MHz. eee-control manage this too, it's the "Performance" setting. There also is a laptop-mode add-in to control it dependant on AC status.

Response Group Service stops repeatedly.

The response group service on all nodes stops periodically at different times. Obviously once all the pool members have stopped this service the Response Groups no longer function. We see the following events in the logs that show the issue:

Keyboard/period key issue

Guys - my full-stop/period key has started randomly misbehaving - when I press it, a dictionary option comes up!!! I've looked at any possible keyboard shortcut aberrations, but no luck so far. Any clues? Cheers

Im not Tecra A11 owner but on my other Toshiba notebooks I never had a problem with the keyboard. Every key will recognized properly if I press it.
I assume your Tecra A11 is pretty new and so its still under warranty. Therefore contact nearest authorized service provider. The guys can replace the keyboard because there are no single keys available.
But dont be worry about this, this is covered by warranty. :)

Shuffle stops, three bells sound, red lights no sound. Apple support unable to help.

Shuffle stops periodically, three bell sound, red llights flash, no sound. Apple support person had never heard of the problem. Restoring corrects, but I can't do that when on a run.

Which iPod shuffle model is it? Do you use a Mac or Windows PC? And what version of OS?

Bug list/feature observations for BB10 on Z10

BUG LIST/FEATURE OBSERVATIONS - Z10/BB10:
1. CRITICAL granular control of notifcations/alerts e.g. a different sound/volume/vibration per mailbox or alert type has been completely removed in BB10 and needs to be reinstated as an urgency
2. support for BBM and Calendar in Landscape mode is missing. A workaround for BBM can be found via the Hub, not the BBM icon.
3. the sound alert for a text message sometimes doesn't play. It seems to vibrate okay, but every 5th or so text message, it doesn't play the alert sound.
4. CRITICAL if you set the display format for your emails to 'conversation style' (so that messages on the same thread are grouped - very helpful) but a folder which one of the messages is in isn't synced, then fresh inbox replies to that chain won't get shown to you in the Hub. It transpires that /GOOGLEMAIL/SENT ITEMS is a sub folder that's affected by this. It means any chain you reply to using your Blackberry, subsequent replies will not be displayed in the Hub. "Solution" is to disable 'conversation style' for thread display.
5. WhatsApp, Bloomberg Mobile (not the terminal login App) and BeBuzz should be top App conversion targets.
6. when you click the Text Messages icon it should take you to your text messages, not the Hub (which is what happens if you have an email open).
7. the lock screen currently has just one icon for emails - ALL emails, regardless of mailbox. It has a fairly generic number for unread messages in ALL of the boxes combined e.g. "200 emails" - this needs to be split our per mailbox.
8. opening a tenth App closes a previously opened App. It should ask you before closing the other App as it's a pain if the App it kills is Skype, Voice, Maps etc
9. the current battery icon is too small to tell the difference between 30% and 15% (for example) - touching it should display the %, or something similar.
10. the screen rotation can be extremely slow. Often you can count 1.. 2.. 3.. 4 before the screen switches orientation. Given how often you'll switch between orientations during use, it quickly gets annoying.
11. when the screen finally rotates (see point 10) the position your cursor was in in the previous orientation is lost
12. it's not quick to put a question/exclamation mark into text. Fine, have a sub menu for general punctuation - but not these extremely common marks (which is exactly why comma and full-stop (period) are full-time keys)
13. the super-useful "delete from device OR delete from device & server" has been removed entirely!
14. using the browser in Landscape mode means "open in new tab" is in a sub-menu. As it's one of the most used features in any browser, and unlike Apple iOS you can't just hold a press to activate 'open in new tab', it really slows you down.
15. sometimes numbers are included in the on-screen keyboard, sometimes not. Can they be made permanent?
16. twice now my 'enter password to unlock' screen has appeared without the keyboard, meaning I couldn't enter my password. About 2 times out of 200, or 1%
17. new messages - have some small icons in the status bar at the top of the screen rather than require a swipe UP&RIGHT to see the Hub
18. in the Hub, the icons for each message don't show if the message was successfully sent. To check if an email/text was sent okay, you have to go into the message (2 levels)
19. you STILL can't see when a text message you received was actually sent by the other party. Quite a basic function.
20. you STILL can't swap email accounts when forwarding a message
21. Calendar reminders often don't trigger the red LED. In fact, the LED is generally pretty inconsistent, often not flashing, or flashing only for a short while.
22. the device supplied ring tones/alert tones are pretty terrible and you cannot set variable volume levels (see point 1).
23. you can select .mid files for your ringtone even though these aren't compatible (when someone calls, your phone will be silent).
24. there's an awkward 3 second pause between clicking Send and a text message actually sending. Why awkward? Because you then have to wait/waste 3 seconds waiting to see if your click was registered, and if the message was sent.
25. GMAIL - boring standard message in the Inbox, no labels or anything funky - Universal Search won't find it if it's more than 1 WEEK old?
26. The power-user controls for Universal Search seem to have vanished? Indexing, Extended Search etc? All you can choose now is "source"?
27. Weird one this. The phone stopped ringing! Checked and double-checked all Notification settings, even did a reboot but nope, phone will not ring for an incoming call! A fresh reboot finally fixed it - I was using a 206kb mp3 which may or may not be relevant
28. I'd love to know why G Maps is missing (assume aggressive move from Google?)
29. it's sometimes tricky to clear Missed Calls. I think you might have to go into the Missed Calls menu and then sub menu? Seems to be more effort than it should be - previously you just clicked the Dial button once to view and presto, missed call indicator cleared. Hardly a huge thing but then as with a lot on this list, it's all about saving a second here, a second there = a big saving over the day or week.
30. Contentious I know, and certainly not a 'fault', but the charging points are gone so I can't get a desktop stand (ironic given the battery life is now more of an issue)
31. when composing a text message you'd don't see the conversation history for that contact until you've sent the new message.

CRITICAL: You cant control the image size for pictures when sending as attachemtns in email. In previous Os 6 & 7 you could select, "smaller, mide size, large or original". These options are gone.

DVD will not start up?

I insert the disk I wan't to play, and the iMac Super Drive will not start. It accepts the dvd. makes noise like it wants to start, but then makes a winding sound, stutters a few times, then makes the sound as if a dvd was re-inserted, but then it gets to a dead, nothing happening stop. period.cccccccc

What you're describing appears to be a failing or failed optical drive. Take your Mac to your nearest Apple Store or Apple Approved Repair Centre for diagnosis and repair.

Replacing all occurrences of characters in a string with one new character?

I'm looking for a way that I could replace all occurrences of a set of specific characters with just one new character for each occurrence.
For example if I have a string which is "word1...word2.......word3....word4............word5" how would I be able to replace this with just one character such as ":" for each set of "." so that it would essentially appear like this "word1:word2:word3:word4:word5"
If I just use replace(".", ":") I am left with "word1:::word2:::::::word4::::word5::::::::::::"
So therefore I'm guessing this would require the use of replaceAll() maybe? but I'm not really very familiar with how regular expressions work and how this would be accomplished using them.

Yes, but "." means any character, so ".\+" means "any character repeated more than once". If you just mean a full stop ("period" for you Americans :p) you should use "\.+" as your regular expression, but remember that for Java you need a '\' escape to recognise '\' as '\', so in code you'd actually type your regex as:
