P35 neo3 + ide hdd

Sorry for my "english"...
My problem: with cold start mb define my ide hdd as model with udma 2 ( all values - fsb etc is default for my e7200). After reboot (without "stop-start" post) all is OK (udma 6). Bios - 1.20;
Please, give me advice how to get normal work.

Try to go to BIOS and check what mode is your IDE controller being set to.
Do post in this thread on the BIOS settings for verification.
I try and simple "Ide", and "achi ide" - same result.
In "UDMA 2" run not only my hdd, but and my dvd, so - it is not a hdd problem.
(problem only if pc was shutdown and cold power on, or if rebot with "start-stop". In case when rebooting w/o "start-stop" is allright - "udma5" or ide and "udma4" for dvd )

  • MOVED: MSI P35 NEO3

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=117976.0

The P35 Neo3 does not support AHCI, neither the ICH9 chipset nor the Jmicron controller.  In fact, the Jmicron controller only supports RAID 0 or 1, or JBOD(you have to use 2 drives connected to the Jmicron controller--in JBOD the 2 drives would be spanned and seen as one large drive).  The P35s with the ICH9R chipset do have an AHCI integrated controller.
Why do you need AHCI?  Other than hotswappable eSATA, there really isn't any advantage and sometimes a dissadvantage compared to IDE.

  • How do I setup 1 serial ata hdd + 1 ide hdd + two optical drives?

    Hello,
I'm new with MSI Boards. I'm unable to get everything recognized by the BIOS. Can someone please explain me how should I setup the configuration and were and what should I connect to what connector or slot.
I'll really appreaciate your help due that I have been trying for 1 week and I can't figure how to put it. Thanks

    Connect the SATA to serial1
Connect the optical drive that you'll be running the XP setup disk from to IDE2
Don't connect any other drives yet.
    In Bios>>Integrated Peripherals>>On-Chip IDE Config:
    Native mode
    PATA only
    Keep SATA enabled-Yes
    PATA channels- Both
    configure SATA as Raid-No
    Leave other stuff alone.
    Bios>>Advanced Features>>Boot device selection:
    Set your preferred boot order.
Reboot from the XP setup CD and install XP
Power off and connect the IDE Hdd to IDE1(set jumpers for single drive)
Connect the other optical drive to IDE2(set jumpers correctly)
    Reboot.
    This should work!

Can you please give some more information on that power supply? Find the label stuck on the side of the power supply and post the amperage for the +3.3v, +5v and +12v rails.
Has the problem you describe always happened from the start or has it begun happening more recently?
Clear the CMOS to verify all settings are set to default. >>Clear CMOS Guide<<

  • Any method to use a Samsung 160GB IDE HDD to replace original 60GB HDD in zt3030AP Notebook

    Hi,
Anyone know if BIOS version F.55 supports HDD > 137GB?
I want to use Samsung 160GB IDE HDD to replace the original 60GB HDD that has bad sectors?
Any method like BIOS upgrade or must find a 120GB HDD?
    Many thanks,
    Kenny

trancinchino, you shouldn't encounter any issues in regards to replacing the harddrive in a iMac with a SSD. I believe the issues are the older models such as the 2009. But, be aware that you will need specific tools in order to replace the harddrive because it includes removing the glass panel and the LCD. iFixit's website instructions. http://www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_Intel_21.5%22_EMC_2428

  • (955X Platinum) IDE HDDs on VIA Controller not powering down

    Hello,
I never had this problem on any motherboard that I've had. Currently, I have one SATA HDD connected to Intel ICH7R controller and two IDE HDDs connected to VIA IDE Controller (running in IDE mode). I have set Windows to power down the HDDs after 30 min. of inactivity (through the Screen Saver tab > Power button). SATA HDD does power down after the specified inactivity period. The two other IDE HDDs don't power down and are spinning all the time.
I always keep my PC on and would like the HDDs to power down when I'm out (sometimes days on end). I have FTP and HTTP servers set up and can access my data remotely whenever I need to and hence do not want to turn off the PC when its not in use !
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

pck, the advantage of having your IDE HDD on ICH7's very own IDE because this IDE is channeled directly into the southbridge. However, the VIA RAID controller is sit on top of PCI bus, then only channeled back to the southbridge (ICH7). Somemore, PCI bus is a shared medium with other PCI devices. However, ICH7's very own IDE is dedicated.
And of course, ICH7's very own IDE can support turn off HDD.
and VIA's controller DOES support Optical drives.

  • P35 Neo3 and Intel E3200/3300 ?

    Hello, everyone.
I have one, I hope, simple question...
    Are E3200/E3300 CPUs compatible with my motherboard-P35 Neo3 ?
I need your opinion and of course, experience....

i just bought an E3300 + biostar G41 board.  i got the FSB up to 280-290 at stock 1.28v voltage on the biostar, but could only get 220-ish on my P35 Neo-F  (with 1.A0 bios, and no, its not a Neo3).  Any speed over 220, and i quickly got "kernel panic: cpu context corrupt" errors.  Same Neo board runs steady on C2D 4300 and 2180.  I didn't try adding voltage on the P35, but i may try that tomorrow.  My testing was limited to booting linux off a flash drive & running 2 instances of mprime.
i need to get off the biostar b/c it overvolts my 1.8v ram to 1.95 (and you can only override it !higher!), and the limited memory dividers have me pushing near 1000mhz, which i also dont want.
Anyhow, just letting you know there is some hope for it, as-is.  I cant help wondering if Neo needs a microcode update for the 3300.
edit: The CPU Finder  http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=cpuform2 says E3200/3300 are supported in v2.1 bios for P35 Neo.  But no mention of the Neo3, or Neo-F rev1 boards & 1.A0 bios.

  • P35 Neo3 with CL4 Memory XLR8

    Hi,
    the Extreamemory XLR8 DRR2 800 CL4 memory won't be correctly detected on my MSI P35 Neo3.
The board detect the memory only as CL5 but the memory is CL4 at 800 and CL5 at 1066.
    plz help
    Sys specs:
    Intel Core2 Q9450
    MSI P35 Neo3
    8 GB DDR2 800 CL4 XLR8
    XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XXX

    Hello Takatu,
if the Board automatically detects your memory as DDR2-800/CL5, it does exactly what it is supposed to do for the following reasons:
    1. The Intel P35 Chipset/Memory Controller does not natively support DDR2-1066 memory but DDR2-667/800 only:
Intel® 3 Series Chipsets Datasheet — For the Intel® 82Q35, 82Q33, 82G33 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) and Intel® 82P35 Memory Controller Hub (MCH)
    ->compare page 354:
    Quote
    10.2.5 System Memory Technology Supported
The (G)MCH supports the following DDR2 and DDR3 Data Transfer Rates, DIMM
    Modules, and DRAM Device Technologies:
    • DDR2 Data Transfer Rates: 667 (PC2-5300) and 800 (PC2-6400)
    • DDR3 Data Transfer Rates: 800 (PC3-6400) and 1066 (PC3-8500)
    2. The JEDEC Standard Timings for DDR2-800 modules are 5-5-5-18 (@1.8V (+/-0.1V)).  If the SPD programming of your modules meets JEDEC standard recommendations, your modules are supposed to be detected as DDR2-800/CL5.
The information Extreme Memory provides for their memory modules is not very detailed, but according the following "datasheet", the SPDs of your modules are programmed to meet JEDEC Standard specs:
    http://www.extrememory.com/content/pdf/en_poster_exme_dram_a4.pdf
    Quote
Due to a JEDEC membership and certified production they are also highly compatible.
    3. Most of the memory modules sold as DDR2-1066 are actually DDR2-800 modules with an official manufacturer's permission to overclock them to DDR2-1066 speed (which means that you have to increase memory speed and voltage yourself).
Check the SPD tables of your modules using CPU-Z ("SPD") and see if there is a list of timings for DDR2-1066 MHz (533 MHz).
To make your RAM operate with 4-4-4-12 timings, you have to adjust you timings manually in BIOS and increase the voltage to the recommendations of the manufacturer.  For DDR2-1066 operation, change FSB/Memory Ratio and Memory voltage to the corresponding values.

  • T60 USB - IDE HDD enclosure problem

    Hi!
I have problem with my T60 (1951-FCG). Ibought a Konig ide hdd enclosure (cmp-mobstor14), and put it in 250GB WD HDD. (caviar blue).
I use two Thinkpad: T42 to work, and T60 for home.
I used the hdd and the usb rack first time with the T42 without any problem: copied data to hdd.
Today i want use with the T60, and does'nt work!
I plugged in the cabla into the T60 and the XP (SP3) try to connect to the hdd.
Find the usb device (i got message), identifies data storage, and no further action.
The XP is slows down, but the drive does'nt visible in the Total Commander.
If i plug out the usb cable, the situation is unchanged. The op system is remain slow!
    Pls help me! What's wrong?
    Regards:
    Rob

-I find it unlikely the T42 secured the drive via a USB enclosure if it was inserted after the T42 was powered up. T4x ThinkPads set their passwords in BIOS configuration and inconsistently supported HDD security with external USB enclosures. Some enclosures supported the password while others just hung or did other strange things but it didn't seem to matter whether or not they were IBM original enclosures with official FRU#'s.
Robzz should perform additional steps or clarify if it still works seamlessly in your T42 if you Insert the USB drive AFTER the T42 has succcesfully booted XP, is it recognized and accessible as any other data drive? If not:
-Shutdown the T42 for at least 15 seconds and restart WITH THE USB ENCLOSURE INSERTED. Are you prompted for any power on, or HDD passwords ? If YES, then clear it or set it the same as YOU have on the T60.
VERY IMPORTANT: YOU should intially set that password ON THE T42, since the newer T60 will support the older HDD security but the older ThinkPads T42 may fail to recognize security set on the newer T60 systems. IBM/Lenovo typically incorporate "forward level compatibility" but not always and I've been unable to locate any authoratative resource from IBM when the incompatibilities occurred by model type or BIOS revision.
If yes, you can use the BIOS config menus to determine if the USB drive has security, a real novel method, assuming your system has Hibernation enabled:
    1. Insert the new USB drive.
    2. Hibernate the system, ensure the USB enclosure adapter and drive also hiberante
    3. Awaken the ThinkPad, and if you're prompted for a HDD password on spartan black BIOS logon type screen in addition to any normal awken security... then the HDD is ENABLED.
ThinkPads elegantly support the insertion and mounting of secured HDD's without rebooting as long as the USB enclosure is recognized but definitely inside UltraBays. I've saved more employees from a needless reboot after demonstrating hibernation / awaken when the misconception is the entire ThinkPad has to be rebooted to on HDD secured disks.
Those methods and trick are supported on any drive regardless if it's IBM whitelisted in addition to my WDD Blue and Black disks.
Those Caviar drives are fairly reliable, sturdy and behave consistently in most laptops from most manufacturers. You should as a matter of course, determine if this problem occurs when you insert the same drive/enclosure combo in a system other than an IBM/Lenovo or the same Caviar in a different enclosure on the same troubled ThinkPads before trying different drives in the same USB enclosure on differing computers.
That is very effective method to meaningfully isolate the issue and avoid needlessly munging up ThinkPad BIOS configs and security that may be working just fine and as expected with any malfunctioning hardware.
You should do that regardless if it is official and "supported" parts since I suspect ThinkPad telephone technical support might be dismissive of your problems

Are you talking about this processor: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=41493
If so, the answer is NO, is not "officially" supported (the processor is too new for this mainboard).
However, this processor is supported by the latest (v1.3) BIOS version: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=37212
You need to contact MSI (another BIOS update is required): http://ocss.msi.com.tw

  • P35 Neo3-F RAM incompatibility

    Hello everybody,
3 weeks now I'm trying to make 2x2Ghz Corsair Ram modules to work with my M/B P35 Neo3-F...
    The model is: CORSAIR DOMINATOR DDR2 4GB (2X2GB) PC2-8500 (1066MHZ) CL5 DUAL CHANNEL KIT
    the part number is: 2X4096-8500C5DF
    with timing at: 5-5-5-15
    and voltage at: 2.1v
I'm currently using BIOS version 1.1 (the v.1.2 it is written that: "- Update CPU Micro Code.
    - Fixed system cannot resume from S3 under DOS mode" - Nothing about memory incompatibility fix it is mentioned"!!)
My problem is that when I install the memory modules with all possible combinations:
    01. channel1+channel3 as dual channel
    02. channel1 only
    03. even channel2+channel4
my M/B stays dead and doesn't post at all!!
The interesting thing is that when I install one memory only in channel1 the system reboots as it is supposed to boot for initializing and configuring the new H/W i.e: new memory modules, but after that it stays dead and doesn't post - blank screen...
In all cases the BIOS doesn't read the memory as it doesn't give any beep when it is supposed to read/detect the memory at boot-up!!
And the weird thing is, that when I install my Kingston DDR2 667Mhz memory back the system boots normally, BUT it informs me that overclocking the 667 memory modules FAILED??..!! (And I have to enter BIOS and reset to the previous settings/default settings)
<<Can anybody assume - understand my problem and suggest any solution??>>
On the other hand - does anybody have the same problem?
Knows anybody about such incompatibility with Corsair memory?
    Or anything else?
    Thank you in advance!!!

  • Adding IDE HDD to a new system with SATA Installed

HUGE NEWB... Sorry to add more to the SATA questions but I can't figure out how to add my old IDE HDD to my new system that has a S-ATA HDD. The S-ATA is set up as a RAID an I have the IDE on it's own cable set as master. The Bios shows that it is there but when the system boots it will go fine until the end of the boot sequence where it looks like a blue screen then reboots very quickly. I looked up some previous threads but all of them seem to have different bios options than my own. System boots fine without the added IDE HDD
    mobo= ms-7103
    P4 2.93mhz
    Seagate 160g S-ATA HDD
    Maxtor 80g IDE HDD
    IDE NEC DVD-RW

As far as the priority goes I have:
    cd/dvd
    IDE 0
    IDE 1
When I go to the normal bios settings I see that it says:
IDE Primary Master      = Maxtor (the Old IDE HDD)
    IDE Primary Slave        = None
IDE Secondary Master  = NEC DVD RW
    IDE Secondary Slave    =None
    Floppy not Installed
I don't see the SATA but that might be normal I don't know
The SATA controller is enabled with RAID also Enabled
I tried to see what the blue screen says but It is too quick and I can't catch it with pause/break
I disconnected the DVD and used it's ribbon cable and it did the same thing, blue screen. The old HDD  was the boot drive on the old machine would that make a difference if it was still formatted  to be a bootable drive even if it was third in the boot sequence? The mobo is listed as ms-7103 on the board and the retail name is 661FM3-V
Thanks for the help thus far!

  • P35 Platimum Combo . hdd detection problem

i have P35 Platinum Combo + Core2Duo E6550 , on booting the screens which pass quickly in which one mentions HDD not detected even though hdd in shown in BIO and has XP OS.

Your Board has to chipsets with integrated controllers: Intel ICH9R and Marvell 88SE6111 chipset.  Your HDD is probably connected to the primary intel controller.  The Marvell controller, which hosts an additional SATA port and the board's only IDE port, performs a seperate scan for attached devices during POST.  If you have no drives connected to one of the Marvell ports it will not detect any and consequently give you a status message telling you that nothing was detected.
You can turn off the Marvell Controller in BIOS if you don't need it.
