P45 Diamond overclocking thread

Okay, I wanted to try a different MB and got what I asked for when I purchased the MSI P45 Diamond.  I am lost with some of the settings in the Cell Menu but becoming more familiar from research and trial & error.
If you have a P45 Diamond please list your settings in the following format with any additional comments and maybe we can get some stable OC's and reach P45 Diamond's potential that the reviews say is there, with a bit of patience and hopefully some good bios updates .
If you are experienced with overclocking and have some suggestions with some settings, feel free to list'em and I will give'm a go.

hey,
I noticed this in your sig...."Custom liquid cooling driven by Apogee Drive Block/Pump, Coolit System CPU Eliminator Mod/Tecs and pump, TT T2MG Radiator"
I have a coolit eliminator that I plan on ripping apart fairly soon....from reading your sig and looking at your avatar it seems you have almost an identical cooling setup to what I'm about to do
few questions I have for ya:
-what pump are you using?
-what kind of temps do you get with it?
-do you have some more pictures?
-my eliminator is still installed on my current system(squeals like a pig all day long tho) so I haven't had a chance to really examine it closely,Do they come apart fairly easy and will I need any rare screwdrivers or tools? (eg.like Nintendo Wiis tri-wing screws)
I'm thinkin of getting another eliminator (my friend has 1 w/ a broken pump he might sell me real cheap) and plumbing them both together than adding a rad and reservoir with a more powerful pump.
nice system
edit:I don't mean to hijack your thread (I thought I PMed this lol)...pm me back if ya prefer
Thanks for not wanting to even though did Jack me just the same .
Please respond only to the with overclocking suggestions if you don't have a MSI P45 Diamond and if you do please share your settings in the afore mentioned format.
youeffsee, I would be more than glad to share info and pic's.  Please pm me because I don't appear to have those privileges yet or too unfamiliar with site and haven't fiqured out how to.

Secondly, you are setting a really high voltage for a stock DDR3 1333Mhz Ram..that surely can cause error and shorten its life too
Third, don't ecpect all CPU to be able to be OC'ed to any number that we wish..when OC'ing to 4 GHz,heat will be an issue..default CPU safe temperature in BIOS will be set to 65 degree celcius, so if your CPU goes beyond this mark, system will automatically terminate.
What was the temperature during prime95 test ? And are you using a stock cooler ?

  • P45 Diamond Post Problem

    Hi,
I'm starting to have another post problem with my P45 Diamond motherboard.  (First one was RMA'd).  This time, it's showing "Processor Initilization" with red, green, green, red.  My current system is
    Motherboard - MSI P45 Diamond
    Bios - 1.3
Processor - Intel Q6600 (older version)
    Memory - Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G 4gb total 1333
Power Supply - Silverstone 750 watt
    Graphics - ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2
It's been working fine for a few weeks and just started acting up.  I'm using stock settings (no overclock) .
Recent changes are adding the Genie, however the post problem happened for the first time before I plugged in the Genie.  The same result now occurs when the Genie is plugged in and when I remove it from the motherboard power.
Basically what happens is it will power up for the first time and it works.  If I restart or shutdown and turn it back on the monitor stays blank and the status lights show Red, Green, Green, Red which is Processor Initilization.  Only way to get it to boot up is hitting the Clear CMOS button or, when I went to bed and started it up this morning, it booted fine.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The MCH voltage in Core Center we being reported at 1.976 however I NEVER changed any of the values.  Is it possible that the bios "AUTO" changed the value?
The question is this value is really set to 1.976V or if it just a misreport.  Please start Green Power Center and check the voltage values there.
    {Remove Dual Core Center from the AUTOSTART list to make sure it does not open automatically when Windows is loaded.  You can start Green Power Center independently of DCC.  Just have look at the Dual Core Center Installation folder.  There should be a sub-folder that contains the GPC Application.  Create a shortcut to it from the Desktop and you are ready to go.}

  • P45 diamond, Vista64, ATI 4870 BSOD (incompatable???)

Well, I took the plunge on the P45 Diamond (MS-7516, PCB v 1.0) with the hopes of making a nice OC'r. Everthing was going fine on install until I loaded the ATI 4870 drivers, after which Vista 64 boots, I logon, then about 10 sec. later, BSOD. This is repeatable. I updated to AMI BIOS 1.4 (with great help from the Forum USB Bios Tool!!). All went well. Reinstalled the latest 8.9 ATI catalyst driver (Vista64) for 4870 and same thing. Vista 64 boots, I logon, then 10s later - BSOD. I can roll back with system restore and all is well. But after I reinstall - same thing. I've updated the Intel drivers, etc. Would be nice if the 'Live Update Online' worked, but I can manage with the manual method. PSU is a 750 PC P&C, so it shouldn't be a power problem. Memory is a 2MB Patriot Viper DDR3 PC3-1600 (2000 MHz). No OC'ing yet, just trying to get the 4870 running. Temps are way cool, CPU ~30C, GPU is cool via touch. I read some other threads about the 4870 problem, but looked like BIOS flash was supposed to cure. The 4870 is a Sapphire, w/ 1GB memory. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Problem RESOLVED! MSI Tech support notified me that ATI put a new driver for the 4870 (8.1) on their web site yesterday. I was a bit skeptical, as I've put several BIOS updates on and several ATI drivers on, and always ended with the same exact problem. But willing to do 'whatever' to get my hard earned cash operational, I installed the new driver and Voila! Problem resolved. Thanks also for your help and assistance Bosskiller.
dude, where did you get your 1.51 bios update? i searched and all i got is 1.50.. did you checked if you also installed your sm bus driver? because that's what screws my video card..

  • P45 Diamond - Vista 64bit randomly freezes

After having many troubles  with the MSI model X48 Platinum and OCZ memory modules (couldn't synchronize), the shop has replaced (with no charge thank God) it with another model P45 Diamond. The problem now is that randomly the system freezes without a specific reason. All the values on the bios are set to default. Also I haven't overclocked or overcharged anything. I have also installed a Tagan PSU TG900-BZ (900W). The system either hangs randomly or when I try to play a 3d game.
Any ideas of what might causing the problem?
    Regards,
    George
the characteristics of my system are the following :
    motherboard : P45 Diamond
    BIOS ver. 1.50
    VGA : MSI 9800 GTX 512MB
    CPU : 9450 quad core
    memory RAM :2x2GB Kingston DDR3 1333D3N9
    HDD: Western Digital 500 GB
    PSU : Tagan PSU TG900-BZ (900W)
    OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit

    Hi and thanks,
well I have updated 1 month ago the BIOS to 1.5v while now MSI support team suggest to update to 1.65 (from their ftp site which is not accessible from the official site)which I did some hours ago. The Ram modules are Kingston KVR 1333D3N9/2G (2GB PC3-10600 CL9 240-Pin DIMM).I As I said all the values in the BIOS are set to default meaning that the voltage is by default 1.5v (from what I saw from Kingston documentation the voltage can be adjusted to +-0.075v). I tried to raise the voltage within the recommended values but the result was the same, randomly freezes. I have adjusted the vistrual memory, do I have to change it from within Vista? The only thing I haven't tried also is to change the VGA card.

  • P45 diamond - corsair memory issues

I have the p45 diamond board . i just upgraded to that board as well as the q9550 intel quad chip. I am running one of the recommended ram kits ( corsair 2x2gig tw3x4g16009hx )
My vista 64bit install went fine but i noticed by default my ram was running at 1067 instead of 1333 at post screen. I flashed the bios to v1.4 and adjusted the timings and voltage in my bios to 9-9-9-24 1.8v. with the fsb/dram ratio @ 1:2.00 . the ram clocked at 1333 in my post screen. however. i started getting blue screens (win32k.sys) as well i can't even launch cod4, it says there was an error and closes. I have re-installed cod4 and it still doesn't work. I went back to the default memory speed and still doesn't work. After flashing my bios i get these errors. I called corsair and explained to them what was going on and they said that that particular ram has known issues. I advised that they're memory configurator lists that as compatible, they thought it had already been removed from being suggested. They set me up with an RMA for ( 2X2gig twin3x4096-1600c7dhx) and said that would fix the problem. I haven't received the ram yet but we will see.
Is anyone else running this ram that i am RMA'ing up to? Its stupid that a high end board like this has so many problems with ram.

That's true, but pay attention to that "users looking for the best overclocking results".
Also, he didn't mention the most important thing (the reason is obvious  ):
all those modules are using overclocked & overvolted DDR3-1333 chips!
As general rule, an overclocked component doesn't run properly on ANY configuration in any condition.
Not to mention the extra heat, shorter lifetime and other troubles.
Before buying DDR3 modules, check out their SPD settings (skip OCZ because most of their settings are messed up):
    7-7-7-20 at 1.5V means DDR3-1066
    9-9-9-24 at 1.5V means DDR3-1333
Something more: 99% of the DDR3-1600 and DDR3-1800 on the market are in fact overvolted DDR3-1333.
The fastest DDR3 chips on the market are DDR3-1600, but they're a "rara avis" in DDR3 modules (also they're very expensive).
They have been designed to work with timings of 11-11-11-30(34) at 1.5V.
They can be overvolted to 1.8-1.9V and they can reach 2000-2200MHz.
For example, Buffalo has a DDR3 module using ELPIDA chips (11-11-11-34) able to reach 2400MHz at 2.1V.
For future take care and don't buy "nice heatspreaders"
    cheers

  • MSI P45 Diamond : Question about voltages and straps.

    Hi,
Before I start a post with my overclocking problems I want to learn more about the board and have a few questions:
    1. OC Jumpers: What do they exactly do, do the increase any voltages, do the change the nb strap or do they only increase the fsb. If they do not change the strap, when/where does the board change it 266/333/400?
    2. What is the maximum safe voltages for the mch, ich, fsb?
    3. New BIOS: Does anyone know when can we expect one or where can I download a beta that is newer than 1.4.
Ok, my problem is that I can overclock past 390. I can get 400 but it is not stable in windows. I first want tolearn how the board works before I discuss my oc problem.
    PC Specs:
    MSI P45 Diamond (v1.4 Bios)
    Intel Q9300 (ran 2000fsb on a xfx 780i)
    4x1gb Transcend aXeram DDR3-1800+
    Zalman 850W power supply
    XFX GTX 260 XXX
    Xfi Titanium
    Thanks

The jumpers change the strap & the FSB Frequency:
When you have an FSB-266 MHz processor and put the jumpers into the 333 MHz position, the FSB Clock Speed will be forced to 333 MHz and the BIOS treats the CPU as though it is an FSB-333-MHz Processor, that means even after a CMOS Clear, the FSB Clock Speed will be 333 MHz and FSB/Memory Ratio will be adjusted automatically based on that strap and the SPD Tables of your memory modules.

    2. What is the maximum safe voltages for the mch, ich, fsb?
The Intel Datasheet for the P45 Chipset should give you a basic overview on voltage ranges.  However, you may need to exceed these ranges, in some cases, depending on your overclock to keep the system stable.  You will find nobody, that will seriously be willing to tell you the "maximum safe voltage" as every voltage increase is potentially dangerous to your the components.  Welcome to overclocking.

The latest BETA I know about so far is v1.5b1.

  • Any P45 Diamond overclockers out there?

Hello all, first post on this forum for me here.
Was wondering if there are any P45 Diamond users/overclockers around that have experience in using GTL values.
Thing is, im overclocking atm stable at 3.8 ghz with a q9450. (8x475)
I have tried many settings regarding the GTL. None really helped. The only settings that helped was upping de VTT to 1.30, and the vcore to 1.36.
Just that i dont like the fact that i have to push the volts that high. Reading around the web showed that GTL can let me use lower voltages.
Also i have tried to reach 4 GHz, wich i could run but with higher voltages only.
Dont worry about my cooling btw, i got a bigwater set from thermaltake, that also cools the NB.
Something else thats prolly kinda interesting to say, the 1.1 BIOS sucks when it comes to my system. I cant get anything stable above 3.2 GHz for some reason. I reverted back to 1.0 and let me go up to 3.8 again.
There is another problem with my DDR3 memory it seems, when it goes above 1450~ MHz respectively, then the system does not post at all. But running it on 1266 gives me no memory issues. (FSB:DRAM 3:4).
I'll make a post about this issue later in another section of the forum.
So to get back to the origin of this post.
Is there anybody out there that can help me with the GTL values?
Needless to say its about a 45nm quad cpu.
    I'll list my specs :
    MSI P45 Diamond

    Here is the story:
I originally built this system late August with hopes it would be an awesome gaming system.  Since day 1 however, it has frozen randomly.  It either hard freezes, or abruptly reboots.  As of now, there is no overclocking, and the system is set at all defaults.
    I have done the following:
     * Tried a new, larger power supply
     * Ran memtest for almost 24 hours with no problems
     * Tried XP and Vista (both 64-bit)
     * Removed ALL unused components.  Left only video card.  Even unplugged CD-ROM drives
     * Tried another keyboard (not mouse, but mouse had no problems on previous system)
     * Downloaded all of the latest drivers (first thing I did)
When I Prime95 & SuperPi simultaneously, the system freezes.  Sometimes instantly, sometimes after 10 minutes.  When not running stress test programs, it freezes seemingly completely randomly.  I have run Hardware sensors monitor while running stress test software, and CPU temp PEAKS at 53.  72 is supposed to be safe for this proc.
I am ready to throw this out the window... any more suggestions?
Oh, and no weird entries in the error log.

Yep, still crashes.  I have been lowering it, but not that low until you said to.  I am updated the BIOS AGAIN.  Apparently there are two 9550 CPUs listed, with different CPU Codes (whatever that is).  There was one released in October that says its for my processor... even though my proc was supposed to be supported in 1.0. So anyway, I REALLLLLY hope the BIOS update does the trick.  This is SO frustrating.

i have a problem with my new motherboard.
The leds go all blue except the leds at the bottom of the motherboard, they say that the memory
Is not installed correctly or damaged.
I have send the memory back to where i bought, they tested it, and it was ok by them.
I tried different slots, different configurations for the memory, butt the leds keep burning.
Tried different videocards, changed the slots didn't work, reset the bios didn't work either.
Only the memory must be the problem say's the mainboard the rest must be ok, all other leds
    are blue......
I don't know what the problem is......???
    My config is;

    Gainward 4850

You increased the DRAM to 1,8V ????
Can you post your CPU-Z SPD Tab please.
Sorry for my english,  but it isn't my natural language! I mean that I set the DRAM voltage to 1.8V, because normal voltage of DDR3 is 1.5V.

  • NEED BIOS MSI P45 DIAMOND

    Hi!
I have a problem - can`t overclock my p45 diamond over 450 mhz at fsb with bios 1.67.
I need perfomance bios version. Where i can download it?

There are no up-to-date Performance BIOS Versions available for your mainboard.  If Performance BIOS Versions ever existed, they were released in the early BIOS Development Phase for testing purposes.  To be honest, I have not come across any Performance BIOS for your board yet and it is also highly questionable if such a BIOS would help you in any way (if it existed).  Whatever problem there is (or not is) does not necessarely have much to do with the BIOS you use.
If you need help and advice on overclocking, please open your own topic in the OC Section of this forum, provide FULL system specifications (read the >>Posting Guide<< first) and post a list of your current Cell Menu settings for comparison.

  • MSI P45 Diamond, Wont Start Up

    Motherboard - MSI P45 Diamond
    Bios - 1.1
    Processor - Intel Core2Quad Q9650 3.0GHz
    Memory - 2x 2GB OCZ Reaper X 1333MHz DDR3
Power Supply - CoolerMaster Real Power M1000
    Graphics - ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2
I have just installed my new pc componants and when I turn the power on everything comes on the fans, cd/dvd, hard drives but there is no beep and nothing happens, I cant even get into the bios to change some of the settings.
Does anyone have an idea as to what is causing this and if there are any way of fixing this.
    Thanks

Okay, the industry standard voltage for DDR3 modules is 1.5V, not 1.85V.  The usual timings for DDR3-1333 memory chips are typically 9-9-9-24, not 6-5-5-20.
The bottom line is, that the specs on that OCZ page are far away from any kind of standard specification which is a not a good thing in terms of compatibility.  For reference only, these are typical DDR3 specs:
    - DDR3-1066, 7-7-7-20, 1.5V
    - DDR3-1333, 9-9-9-24, 1.5V
Memory chips that nativey operate @1333 MHz, 6-5-5-20 @1.85V do not exist.  There is no chip manufacturer that produces such components.  So, whatever the native specs of you modules are, they are currently unknown to us, as OCZ seems to have a policy of not putting native ratings and SPD Profiles on their product pages.  They always only mention overclocked ratings.
Test each module seperately in the first memory slot and see if the system is able to boot up with either of them alone. If nothing changes, test some modules with trustworthy parameters, that do not need non-standard voltages and are known to operate with standard frequencies and timings.
