Packages and software components

Hi everyone:
I'am having problem with an interface going to my XI-system. This interface works OK in another XI-system, because of that I think the problem are the packages or the software components installed in my XI-system.
Can somebody tell me if this two configuration are compatible?the levels(010,009...) are importants????
My XI-system patches:

  • Naming conventions/hierarchies for products and software components

    Hi,
Can someone please advise what they have found works well for naming products and software components and recommended hierarchies?
Following the SAP model it seems to make sense to have a custom product for each SAP product when we are developing custom interfaces for the related system, e.g. ZPRODMYCOMPDEVS_R3, ZMYCOMPDEVS_CRM etc.
Beneath this level as similar convention could be used for the software component, e.g. ZSWCMYCOMPDEVS_CRM or if it is a modular SAP system like R/3 perhaps a grouping per key application area? (e.g. HR, Finance, Logistics etc)
I know it's not compulsory to start these with 'Z' but it would help group custom developments.
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

  • Transporting Products and Software components

    Hi ALL,
I have two new products for which I have created the export file to be imported into the target system. The target system already contains few other products and Software components. Is it true that the new export file from source system will over write all entries in the target system?? or will it be an append ??
The " How to handle SLD for XI" doc tells that it will overwrite..I am a little concerned as there has been no SLD transports done in these boxes and all products currently  in the target box have been manually created.

  • Powershell, Deployment Packages and Software Updates OH MY!

Ok, so I snooped around and was not able to find an answer to my question so here goes.
I'm building an automated process where Orchestrator runbooks will automate the entire process of downloading updates, deploying to test groups, waiting for an approved RFC then deploying the updates. That's the 10k foot level view.
My question revolves around the process of downloading software updates and placing them into a package.  It has been suggested that the Save-CMSoftwareUpdate does this, but reviewing the doc I am less inclined to believe this statement.  Was hoping
to get lucky and have someone reply that they have done this and here are the interesting parts.
This will all be performed via powershell commands with no direct user interaction at all.  So some powershell script that pops up the download software updates wizard will not work for me.
Thanks in advance for any pearls of wisdom around this,
    Jim

Ok, I know that we are playing 20 questions here, but I needed the first part to scope the next set of questions.
You say that the approvals are coming from an external source...are you wanting to automate the parsing of the external source or are you planning on putting the approvals into a WSUS group for it to download the update content?  Keep in mind here
that the UpdateID that I am referring to is a GUID and not something that someone is likely to give you in a human readable document.  The problem with Bulletin IDs is that they will likely apply to a number of operating systems and architectures.
It would be nice if you could get them to populate the approvals into the computer group directly to alleviate the ambiguity.  Of course you have to remember that someone has to keep it cleaned up.
You can query WSUS for all of the UpdateIDs for a given computer group.
Beyond this, you will now need to use the WSUS APIs and may want to take a look at the IUpdate interface:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.updateservices.administration.iupdate_members(v=vs.85).aspx and call the GetInstallableItems method, which will return a list of InstallableItem:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.updateservices.administration.installableitem_members(v=vs.85).aspx each item will have an ID, which is the ID that you will need to publish into your update package; it also has a Files property, which
is a list of files for the installable item, and is of type UpdateFile:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.updateservices.administration.updatefile_members(v=vs.85).aspx.  These are the files that will get published into the update package.  Each update file will have a FileUri property, which will
provide you with a web link to download the file.  If you are a bit more enterprising, you can mangle the FileUri into a UNC path, so that you can just copy the file directly.
You should now create the update list.  In the process of creating the update list, you will want to create a table of UpdateID to CI...you will need this when you create your advertisement.
Once you have gathered all of the update content, and their associated InstallableItem identifiers, you are ready to tell configuration manager to populate the update package with the installable items.  Interesting here is that you are dealing with
the installable items and not directly with the updates.  Configuration manager will associate the InstallableItems with the appropriate updates to be shown in the interface.
Once you get the package populated, you will need to create the advertisements to the appropriate collection.  By the way, this is done on an individual update basis.  Remember that update lists, update packages and update advertisements have
no direct relationship to one another, although a stronger bond was created in 2012.
    Simple stuff huh?!?
Remember that Configuration Manager will not pull metadata across for updates that are already superseded, so you may not always have a one to one reference.
Keeping your packages cleaned up, removing extraneous update content that is no longer needed, is a completely different subject.
It would be greatly appreciated if you would mark any helpful entries as helpful and if the entry answers your question, please mark it with the Answer link.

  • XI products and software components in SLD

We are starting to implement XI in order to exchange messages between R/3 systems.
Is it better to create a custom software component within the standard SAP R/3 Product (in the SLD), or do you suggest to create also a custom product (even if the systems involved are SAP systems) ?
Which are advantages and disadvantages ?
    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if the question is answered. I am trying to see what is correct. SAP appear to say build under the specific Product supplied. Or else, what is that used for ?
I am not a seasoned XI developer by far, however, upon reading XI books and documentation, i see that S/W components are attached to Products, and the Products are Imported into the Intergration Builder. I have also seen, and been told, that it is common practice to create a Product that reflects the Project, and then attach the S/W components under that, for which XI would be interfacing. For example, if I were working on a new project, say, "myProj" I would create a product called "myProd", then attach the S/W components involved, say, CRM under that. When the Product gets imported into the Intergration Builder, I continue my developments under a new namespace, that is under the Product "myProj".
    Is this right?
In reality, "myProj" is not a Product, it is a project.
    I hope this is clear
    thanks

  • Software Components and Products

    Hi,
    I am new to XI.
There are many software components and products available in SLD. I wanted to know which site should I visit to determine the functions or get details of each products and software components.
    Edward

    Hi,
about Software Product and component go thru this part of SAP help-
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/a2/2999ef97ea2b4790165f9ca5c05c41/frameset.htm
All standard SAP products and software components are shipped by SAP (SRM etc)
If you are planning to create a customer speicific components for the SAP SWCV, then create your own thridparty product based on SAP product, and then work on it. Now you can use dependency if you want make use of standard SAP delivered content.
Generally , thirdparty product is created based on the vendor and all the swcvs are created under that. Then all IR objects follow the same.
Have a look into this blog to get some hints-

  • What is the difference between, Configuration Components and Software Comp?

    Experts,
Can somebody tell me, What is the difference between, Configuration Components and Software Components?

    Hi,
    Configuration Objects:
You use configuration objects to help you to structure and organize your configuration data in the Integration Directory
You can group configuration objects by using configuration scenarios.
    The following configuration objects exist:
    1) Collaboration profile objects
        -Communication Party
       -Service
       -Communication Channel
    2)  Logical routing objects
      - Receiver determination
      - Interface determination
    3)  Collaboration agreement objects
       -   Sender Agreement
       -  Receiver Agreement

  • Software Components for XI in SLD.

I'm starting with my first project in XI, and I have the following doubts.
The SAP ERP systems are loaded as Technical Systems into the SLD with their products and software components, which are contents of Content Repository of the SLD. If, for example, I have to develop a scenario in XI to integrate my SAP ERP system with a legacy system, if I create a new Software Component version to create the XI design objects I need for the SAP ERP side, should I create and assign a new Product version with this SWCV to my SAP ERP Technical System, or I could use it without doing that, and make the connection with the system directly in the Integration Directory?
If anyone has information or tutorials about best practices for creating Products and Software Components depending on the scenario to develop in XI, that would be a lot of help for me.
    Thanks in advance
    Sebastian Pereira.

    Sebastian,
-->if I create a new Software Component version to create the XI design objects I need for the SAP ERP side, should I create and assign a new Product version with this SWCV to my SAP ERP Technical System, or I could use it without doing that, and make the connection with the system directly in the Integration Directory?
Yep you can ...Software component takes part only in design time...at configuration time You need to import the Business system in Integration Directory..
    Configuration time activity:
    1. Create Technical and Business systems in SLD( Business system should be associated with this Technical system only)
    2. Now import Business System from tool menu item of ID
    3. Right lick and Create a scenario in ID
    5. Under this scenario you can see the configuration objects you need to configure an create..these objects
PS : Don't forget to activate the objects in ID
Let me know if you want further clarification of thoughts..

  • Problems creating software components in SLD

    Hi,
    I am using <b>NW2004s SP06</b>.
While configuring NWDI, I was defining Product and Software components in the SLD.
    1) I am unable to create products for SAP Systems in the catalog. Whenever I select a new product the message always says new product for non-SAP system.
    2) <b>I am unable to create software components for products for non SAP systems. Whenever I try adding new software components I get an error on the production state</b>
<b>Value not allowed by VALUEMAP for property SAP_SoftwareComponent.ProductionState:Released</b>
This is the same error when I choose all the listed Production states: (Eg: Planned, Developed etc)
    Please help

    Forgot to add..
Application Server-Java (J2EE engine), DI, SLD etc are all on a single machine..

  • Change deployment package for software updates

    Hi there
Currently we have different deployment packages and software update groups based on year, product, etc.
In the near future i'd like to rearange our software deployment process in configuration manager 2012:
1x Deployment Package for all updates
1x "Full" Software Update Groups with all updates in it. Additional to that we'll create a "Diff" Software Update Group at the Patchday and merge the updates later via edit membership in the "Full" Software Update Group.
Are the following steps which i would perform correct?
    1. Select all updates which are deployed and not expired and not superseeded
    2. Create a new Software Update Group "Full"
    3. Select the new Software Update Group --> Download --> Create my new deployment package
    4. Deploy the new software update group to my collections
    5. Delete the obsolete software update groups / deployment package
    6. Delete the old updates source folders on our filer.
I current don't know if the redownload process let the updates "forget" the old deployment package. With the above described steps i should get rid of all expired and superseeded updates.
    Thanks for any advice :-)
    Regards,
    Simon

That is correct they only receive and install the updates they require, but don't confuse the metadata and deployments with the updates themselves. They will still receive the metadata and the policies for every update you deploy to them and that's where
the problem lies. Each and every update assigned to a client (using a deployment) has it's own policy which of course must be downloaded by the client and stored in WMI causing the bloat. Note that I haven't experienced this first-hand but am relying on the
accounts of others here in the forums but to me, if there is any chance of this being an issue, I would avoid it.
For Update Groups, just a few categories is sufficient to break things up and I typically do three: workstations, server, office. These are often on different patching schedules anyway so it makes sense to have three separate ADRs for them anyway.
For packages, I typically organize based on the calendar creating a new package every 3-6 months with the package containing all updates. There's really no need to divide the package up by product unless you have DPs dedicated to a specific product. Note
that pre-R2, to change the package an ADR referenced you had to use PowerShell -- it's been added into the GUI in R2 though.

  • Error in Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

    Hello Everyone,
I am a regular user of I-tunes but recently i dont know why but I got some error in Launching I-tunes. So as recomonded by "Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7" section. I started removing the products. But after removing Quick time, I tried to remove Apple Software Update but while uninstalling it gave error that "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." and the uninstall rollbacks.
Please send me a feasible solution to this problem.
    Thank You.

Uninstalling the iCloud control panel should allow you to do that folder deletion.

  • Correlation and Principal Components Analysis software for Mac

    Greetings-
I am looking for Mac software that will compute correlations between multiple variables and perform principal components analysis on the resulting intercorrelation matrix. These would be small data sets, 10 or 15 variables, 100 subjects. I have Excel which could be used for data entry. I Googled it and became glassy-eyed and may have missed the obvious. This is for personal use so I cannot afford large programs like SPSS which is a great program. If there is nothing runable on a Mac, are there packages on the net that one can use?
Thank you in advance, I appreciate your help.

    Hi Limnos-
Thanks for your response. Your links will be excellent for somebody! The first link concerns Principal Coordinates Analysis for Mac which is related to multidimensional scaling, potentially very valuable for someone looking for such a program. The second and third links provide lists of esoteric software statistical packages some of which for Mac which would be highly valuable for scientific and academic users. Sadly, they didn't provide what I was looking for. Still, all three links were excellent, thanks again.
Again, I seek a basic correlation package and a factor analysis or principal components package that is free or affordable. If it ran with Excel that would be a plus.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best,
    Rich
