Packet-Delay and Reordering with a SG200-18-Switch

Sometimes we see an issue that the switch delays a fragment up to one millisecond. And the delay may cause reordering...
We are using a "SG200-18 18-Port Gigabit Smart Switch" with the following Version:
Software Information
Firmware Version (Active Image):    1.3.2.02
Firmware MD5 Checksum (Active Image):    4e5ee4d4fcc4f6ee86f4cf39e015e362
Boot Version:    1.1.0.6
Boot MD5 Checksum:    01eac6cfe0267f6c28a302c0082b7086
Here is an extract from capture-files showing the issue. You see that the red-marked fragment is in order when it enters the switch. When it leaves the switch the red-marked fragment is delayed and reordered:
Capture on the Interface "before" the switch:

We looked in the configuration of the switch but we can't find something, so we assume that it might be a bug in the switch...
It is also remarkable that sometimes the same fragment is delayed by two  different Cisco switches in the setup; so it may be be something about  the content of the packet...
Any suggestions, what it can be? Thanks in advance!

Hi Jger, is this for something like a message of the day? What are you using UDP 17 for?  UDP is still best effort which the switch may not necessarily be faulted for. You may try something such as turning off spanning tree on the ports to see if that can help somehow.

  • Packet drops and High CPU on Cisco 3845 Switch

    Hello Experts,
    We are facing a lot of packet drops in our LAN.
    When we try to ping one of the access switches from the CE router, we get the follwoing output:

  • Monitoring RTP Data / Packet Loss / Packet Delay

    hiya folks
    what is everyone using to monitor their incoming and outgoing data in terms of packet delay and loss and myabe even load on the CPU??
    thanking anyone in advance for any help you provide

    i managed to do this now without the use of an external program, once you have finished transmitting the stream.
    you can run the following bit of code on thr rtp manager which shows you the following
    GlobalTransmissionStats stats;
    for (int i = 0; i < rtpMgrs.length; i++) {
    stats = rtpMgrs.getGlobalTransmissionStats ();
    System.out.println( "The total number of RTP packets transmitted :" + stats.getRTPSent() );
    System.out.println( "The total number of bytes sent :" + stats.getBytesSent() );
    System.out.println( "The total number of RTCP packets sent :" + stats.getRTCPSent() );
    System.out.println( "The total number of local collisions :" + stats.getLocalColls() );
    System.out.println( "The total number of remote collisions :" + stats.getRemoteColls() );
    System.out.println( "The number of packets that failed to get transmitted :" + stats.getTransmitFailed() );
              rtpMgrs[i].removeTargets( "Session ended.");
              rtpMgrs[i].dispose();

  • Help with VLANs on SG200-18 and two SG200-08 switches

    Hi everybody. My apologies but I'm only average at best with my CISCO skills. I have simple setup running a few network devices connected via 3 CISCO switches. It's small office and there are two rooms - one with servers and one with printer and pc's. Each room has 8-port SG200-08 switch.
    Router/ firewall is Sonicwall TZ215 and it handles internal routing between VLAN's. Each SG200-08 was connected directly to TZ215 (no SG200-18 yet) and VLANs were working perfectly. Please see diagram below...
    Problems started when I added in the middle larger SG200-18 to handle extra devices. Whatever I'm doing wrong but I can't make VLANs work anymore. Something I'm not setting up correctly in SG200-18.
    Please help me to setup VLANS here - tagged, untagged, PVID, trunk........ I'm completely lost and already had to reset SG200-18 twice.
    My working setup without 18 port switch was like this.
    SG200-08 (1)
        g1  Trunk  1     1U,100T
        g2  Trunk  1     1U
        g3  Trunk  1     1U
        g4  Trunk  1     1U
        g5  Trunk  1     1U
        g6  Trunk  1     1U            SERVER3
        g7  Trunk  100   100U      SERVER1
        g8  Trunk  100   100U      SERVER2
    SG200-08 (2)
        g1  Trunk  1     1U,50T,200T
        g2  Trunk  1     1U
        g3  Trunk  1     1U
        g4  Trunk  1     1U           PC1A
        g5  Trunk  1     1U           PC1B
        g6  Trunk  50    50U        PC2A
        g7  Trunk  50    50U        PC2B
        g8  Trunk  200   200U     NETWORK PRINTER
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
    Small switches would remain untouched but 200-18 needs to have the following settings:
     g15 Trunk  1     1U,100T
     g16  Trunk  1     1U,50T,200T
     g17 Trunk  1     1U,50T,200T
     g18 Trunk   1      1U,50T,100T,200T
    Sonicwall now would have only one port connected to SG200-18 with settinngs matching port g18 on big switch.
    If you notice there is a change as now you would have only 1 port connecting your network to the Sonicwall, would advise you to use port 17 or 18 since they are uplink ports.
    If you have tried to connect two ports to big switch STP would block one of the ports.
    Let me know how it is going :-)

  • Sever delay and cracking noise with guitar

    I have my electric guitar plugged into my MacBook via a USB cable. Never had a problem using it until today. Since the last software update (which was supposed to FIX latency) when I use guitar effects in GarageBand there is a crackling noise and distortion, along with a sever delay between between hitting the string and hearing the sound. Anyone have any idea what happened? I changed nothing on my end. Must be in the software update. The delay and distortion and crackling noises are so bad I simply cannot use guitars in GarageBand, much less record them. Help!

    Thanks for the reply. My cable is a First Act USB cable that I got at Target:
    http://www.amazon.com/First-Act-222-USB-Cable/dp/B001D2GQHU/ref=sr13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1297089473&sr=1-3
    It worked perfectly until the latest update to Garage Band 11 was released. I strongly suspect it is not the cable, as the cable does not seem to require a driver. The Mac auto detects it. Is nobody else having this problem? Maybe the cable just happened to go bad immediately after the Garage Band update?

  • Need Help with Packet Loss and routing Loop perhaps???

    Hi,
    I am running into a very odd situation. One of our highly critical systems (172.18.1.2/16) is losing connection intermittently for brief periods of time (1minute, 3 minute, 50 seconds and so on).
    I have gathered some information that I would like to share with you guys:
    The switch is a 3560 (Show version is in ShowVersion.txt)
    default gateway is 172.18.10.254/16 (virtual IP in an HSRP , packet capture is done on the active node)
    I have noticed that pings to one of the default gateways drop infrequently (more frequently from machines on 172.18.0.0/16) segment.
    total number of machines on 172.18.0.0/16 do not exceed 200
    I have captured packets on Interface Vlan1 and I found something very weird, perhaps pointing to a routing loop??? (see capture.png) The ICMP request comes and hits the 172.18.10.254 with TTL of 128 TWICE! then packet capture shows that same packet with TTL decremented by one TWICE! again and again until it reaches TTL of 1 and then it responds with a reply.
    At times it completely ignores the requests and causes a request timed out.
    I am confused and need help in right direction. I really appreciate it.
    can you also confirm if the multiple packets mean routing loop somewhere?
    Thanks

    Could you post a copy of your HRSP config and the results of a #show standby?
    Thanks

  • No joy with new SG200-08

    I have had no luck with a new SG200-08 switch, firmware 1.0.7.4.  It never acquires an IP address from the upstream server (System LED flashes continuously and forever) yet plugging the same cable into a PC or laptop results in an immediate and successful DHCP transaction.  I do not believe the DHCP server is set to deny address requests for any reason.  Documentation does not answer whether or not the SG200 can pass packets with the System LED flashing.  Setting a static IP address on the SG200 (on the desired subnet) ends the LED flashing, but PC's attached to the switch are then unsuccessful in their own DHCP's.  I have done no configuration on the SG200 other than make sure factory defaults are set (long reset with paper clip) and changing the UI password, so I assume that all ports are functional in VLAN 1.  Lastly, if I swap out the SG200 and put in a generic 'dumb' gigabit switch, I have no upstream issues and all attached equipment is able to DHCP and function normally.  I haven't engaged Wireshark yet or looked in the system logs.  Advice appreciated.

    Hi Glow, please downgrade software revision to the 1.0.6.2 or 1.0.5.1 then factory default reset the switch. Then try again.  If this recovers correctly, try to re-upgrade to the 1.0.7.4, factory default the switch and try again.
    See if this makes a change for you.

  • Airport Extreme N - Optonline - packet loss and resets

    Setup:
    I have been having the below issue since moving to an area in New Jersey with Optonline (CableVision) cable internet access. The cable modem is a WebStar with connection to a Airport Extreme "N" via ethernet to WAN port on Airport Extreme N.
    The issue was not present when I was with Comcast using an Airport Extreme G, it began when using Optline with the Airport Extreme G and continues with the Airport Extreme N. Airport is configured to b/g/n compatible, DHCP, WPA/WPA2 security, various channels used, no interference noted in the wireless spectrum using several software tools.
    Issue:
    Webpage load speeds are very slow until the Airport Extreme base is restarted, Optonline has confimed a strong signal to the cable modem and when I plug directly into my iBook/iMac from the modem using ethernet they test for packet loss and it is 0-2%. I have confirmed that directly plugging in removes the issue.
    When plugged into the Airport Extreme (either the G or N version) packet loss has approcahed 90% and the only way to load a page is to continually hit "reload" to get a slow eventual load. Once a restart of the Airport Extreme is done the issue is resolved for hours/days until it begins again, requiring another restart.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    My n Airport doesn't work well on OOL either. Back to using round AEBS g.
    The n router when I click a webpage link, has a delay of 5-10 seconds before Safari goes to the link. Using my g Airport I click a link and Safari instantly loads the page.
    If I do an OOL speed test, the n router is a bit slower than the g router, but speed tests fine bottomline. But the delay issue has made it impossible for me to work, so I switched back to my UFO AEBS g Airport.
    Whatever the imcompatability with OOL is I hope will be rectified when I see a release of an Apple n Airport update. In the mean time, g for me.

  • Tons of packet loss and Verizon techs say its fine

    As you can see from the below test ran from dslreports.com, I'm having a lot of packet loss issues. This has been going on for nearly two weeks now and tech support has been more of an annoyance than a help upto this point. I've talked to tech support at least 5 times only to be told my line test comes back fine, its normal, reset your modem, delete your cookies, is your pc old, etc. I've even had them vpn itno my system and run pings and they see the packet loss and all the issues I'm having first hand and still  say it isn't a big deal. On more than one occasion I've had my modem data light just flashing and had to reset the modem and they suggest I just buy a new modem. Seriously, is this how bad tech support has gotten?
    I've shown them test after test after test and the all come back pretty much the same... The thing is its been perfect for years and suddenly this and its like tech support wants to sweep it under the rug or something.  I've had it suggested to me the packet loss and high pings when I'm not getting the packet loss is due to my pool being over populated.  Like I'm ow getting ping averages of 250-300 instead of 30-40s, again when its not all timing out.
    I've posted over on the dslreports forums asking about this as well as in the Verizon specific forums to the techs all with 0 replies from anything and was told to come here and see if anyone would be able to help.
    I really not bother with the hassle of switching isps as ive been a loyal Verizon dsl customer for well over 5 years but at this point just knowing how bad tech support is alone might make me want to.
    Can anyone offer any insight on what else to do or help on this possibly?

  • White noise, sort of packet loss when talking with...

    Hi,
    For some unknown reason when I talk with one specific person the call doesn't exactly drop out it sort of cuts the audio and gives me white noise (sort of like when you get packet loss when transferring files or gaming), I have 0 idea why it does it. Does it the reverse as well, but only for me and this person. Everyone else thats in the call doesn't get effected and its frustrating me.

    When in a call goto call > Technical info. This will show you various info about the call connection (and a lot of useless info aswell). Amongst the info is packet loss, and relays (if relays = more than 0 you are not directly connected).
    Being on the same Skype, version might help.

  • Windows 7 and Networks with High Latency

    We are currently trying to rollout Windows 7 on our network to replace XP but have encountered an issue whereby we have remote clients that access the network over high-latency satallite links (BGAN and Vocality/Satellite). The latency of the links (based
    on ping results) can be 600ms for Vocality and 1-3s for BGANs.
    The particular services that don't work are a full motion video solution using TVI Viewer 7.9.1 and Outlook 2003 or 2007. These work fine on Windows XP. Shares can be accessed but are significantly slower than XP and ping does respond fine.
    Windows 7 is running on Panasonic Toughbook CF52 and CF74 and I've tested in with a vanilla install with no updates and not on the Domain (2008R2 native) to eliminate GPO interference and tried it with all MS updates as of about 2 months ago.
    I've tried removing the extra services on the network card (Topology Discovery, ipv6 and QoS), updated to the latest NIC drivers from Panasonic and drivers from Intel themselves. Reduced the MTU to as low as 500 and increased the Frame size (I forget what
    to but was following a guide for slow links).
    I've successfully replicated the issue on out development system using a satallite simulator.
    Windows 7 with Outlook and TVI work fine on our network when connected via the LAN, ADSL, 3G and WiFi.
    I'm currently analysing Wireshark captures but they don't seem any different to the XP ones.
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
    I noticed that your issue just happened when you use satellite transmission connection.
    The fact is that this kind of connection in Windows 7 use TCP protocol. Transmission Control Protocol ( TCP ) under ideal conditions can provide reliable data delivery, but it is inherent in the existence of a throughput bottleneck, with the emergence on
    the long-distance WAN packet loss and latency increases, the bottleneck is becoming more prominent and serious. In satellite networks with high loss, effective throughput may be as low as 0.1% - 10% of available bandwidth.
    However, FASP can be the solution.

    Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
    However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
    Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
    Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

  • Authorised.i have removed itunes program and reloaded with lastest release still no joy

    when i try to down load my content from the cloud i get a error message not authorised on this pc.I have removed the itunes and reloaded with the latest release still no joy.Also have checked on my account where it states my pc is authorised. Any suggestions Thanks

    Sorry about the delay, pack. Brooding over what to try next.
    I'd like to doublecheck the malware possibilities with another malware scanner.
    Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hour on my Lenovo.)
