Packet drops on v490 production server..help us
Hello...
We have v490 server with ce0 interface configured.. It gets down frequently & after some packet drops it makes itself up...
Can anybody tell me what could be the reason behind this problem...
I have checked switch & router by changing interface cables, still problem persists...no message on /var/adm/messages.

try a "snoop -d ce0" and verify messages
also, perhaps the NIC is broken
also, perhaps the duplex/speed of the NIC isn't set correctly (autoneg, forced, fullduplex, halfduplex etc.) and you have to define it with a "ndd -set "

SSIS package is taking more time on production server than test server
Same SSIS package was taking 18 hours on production and was just taking 6-7 hours on test server. When I increased the frequency of the Tlog backup file then it dropped to 11 hours. But still the difference of 3-4 hours is there.
I had doubt that production server might have online transaction causing this issues, however this was proved wrong when I shutdown production sites and then also same output.
Any idea where I am missing..

Are they performing server or database maintenance in the same window of time when the packages run. These include backups, index re-organize/rebuilt, partition switching, DBCC checks, statistics update, etc.?
Comments: I am DBA too for them so I know better what is going on. No such jobs are executing during this window.
What is the recovery model being used in production Full, Simple, Bulk-logged?

Are the indexes and statistics being maintained in the source system you are extracting data from?

Have SQL Server configurations been modified such as Max Degree of Parallelism and Parallelism thresholds?
Comments: Yes it was earlier, then I changed that back to Default while comparing Test environment which has everything default.
Are there any special trace flags used to start up SQL Server in production?
Comments: No only Trace 1118 for Tempdb enabled.
Is SQL Server Auditing, Compression or Encryption being used in production?
Comments: Only Backup compression has been enabled, no Auditing and no Encryption
Is there Replication, Mirroring, Log-Shipping, Change Data Capture, Change Tracking being used in production?
Comments: No Replication, Mirroring, Log-Shipping, Change Data Capture, Change Tracking being used in production. Earlier we had log shipping, however as of now log shipping as well. Its long time ago we removed log shipping.
Are there other applications running along with SQL Server in the same Windows Server?
Comments: No only sql server.
Has SQL Server max memory changed from the default value? How much RAM is left for Integration Services and Windows? Check if paging is occurring.
Comments: This is cluster setup for two instances on each node, so yes default memory is not still i had to adjust, however i didn't find high memory usage or memory issues in all log like sql, windows. 28 GB left for Integration Services and Windows
and 50 GB-50 GB between two sql server instances. Paging looks normal too.
Are there query hints being used in the SELECT queries?
Comments: Query we have bad, however this is our last target. The same query is executing in 6 hours in Test server and why it is taking now 11 hours is the question of the hour for me.

MS Sql error in production server: DBIF_REPO_SQL_ERROR

I am getting this error in my production server.
Environment : OS - Windows 2008, Database: MSsql 2005 sp2, ECC6.0
when the job SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFMONITOR executes the dump occurs with the following error.
DBIF_REPO_SQL_ERROR, SQL error 0 occurred when accessing program "CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB=============CP "
and also i am not able to open db13 with ends up with abap dump.
In the sql server log i found this error too.
Database ID 5, Page (1:4804273) is marked RestorePending, which may indicate disk corruption. To recover from this state, perform a restore.
Please help me on this.

Shankar PVI raised the Message with SAP and they asked to do the H/W audit. My H/W vendor executed the diagnostic reports and given the report as "NO H/W ISSUE".
That we already get into know when i did the system refresh, (I Mean i moved the database to another machine there also i am getting those same error).
As per the DBCC checkdb log we found 1 consistency errors in database 'PRD', and we found that the table too 'DB6PMPROT'.
Since its the table for the the records of DB13, i can lose this table data. So I tried to delete the data from the table, tried to truncate the table
and also tried deleting using the commands
1. DELETE FROM [PRD].[prd].[DB6PMPROT]
2. TRUNCATE TABLE [PRD].[prd].[DB6PMPROT]
3. USE [PRD]

Problems with assembly update in Biztalk production server
Hi.
I'm facing a problem I cannot solve about an update in one of the resources of an application in Biztalk production server.
Suddenly a bug in an application that receives messages through an external web service appeared. To find out where the bug was occurring, the orchestration was filled with many EventLogs and some other things to test. After the bug was tracked and corrected,
it was added an update in resource with the original code of orchestration, that way the EventLogs were no more logged in Event Viewer and the other things wouldn't exists in production.
Occurrs that the EventLogs are still being logged in Event Viewer. Even after the resource was added many times in server and after many resets in the host instances.
The problem aren't the logged events, are the other things that we must remove from production to avoid headaches.
There is a way to fix this? Or some better way to search a resolution for that?
I'm thinking remove the resource, reset the hosts instances, then add the resource and reset again, but for me this is very hardcore, even more in the production Server.
Usually, the deployment in production Server is made based in the import of msi files and execution of this files. The "Add -> Biztalk Assemblies" method was used this time only because was an emergency. I don't know if makes sense.

Enabling the options for GAC as you did, should GAC the components.
BizTalk uses
C:\Windows\assembly folder for assemblies. So when you import the msi with GACing options enables, ensure the assemblies are gaced in C:\Windows\assembly folder.
Otherwise, just drag and drop the assemblies from your folder to this folder. Or using command prompt
cd to c:\windows\assembly\gac_msil and copy the assembly from your folder.
Ensure you have GACed the assemblies in all the BizTalk processing machines when you more than one BizTalk machines.
Also ensure you’re restarting the correct host instances. If the artefact under the isolated host instance, ensure Application pool /IIS is restarted.

High packet drop over FCoE setup
We have nexus 5k switch connected to storage array through FCoE 10GB interface and with blade chasse support FCoE. We are facing a hug latency on the traffic flow between the server and the storage. Can some one help me to solve this issue? Also do we need to setup the jumbo frame and modify the MTU size?

MTU should not be an issue. No need to modify the MTU for regular ethernet traffic, unless you're using IP storage such as iSCSI.
Let's narrow down the problem first.
1. Do you see packet loss/performance issues on other servers connected to the same N5K(s)?
2. Are you seeing any packet drops on the N5K interfaces or GATOs ASIC?
show interface e1/20 counters errors
show interface e1/20 flowcontrol
show interface e1/20 priority-flow-control
show system internal ethpm errors | egrep Ethernet1/20
show hardware internal gatos port ethernet 1/20| egrep -i err
I would check these counters on both the host facing and arrary facing interfaces.
3. What is the exact array that is FCoE attached?
4. Do you have a topology diagram?
5. What are the server side adapters, firmware and driver versions being used (include the OS on the host).

Hi,
i want to ask. My ASA5520 is generating some packet drops constantly and we have some problems with server aplication that a proccessing of tasks from client to server take a long time (sometime about 15 seconds). Our client application is accessing a server throught IPSec VPN tunnel terminated on two ASA`s. Our connectivity is about 20Mbit/s to internet and responses to ping about 5 ms and our internet load is about 20% on both sides - so i think this parameters are not bad. MTU is configured for 1500 for all interfaces. If this apllication is on local network its is working with no problems. Long responses are only throught VPN tunnel.
Can someone help me where to search for possible reasons? - is a drop rate about 2-4pkts/sec a normal behavior on Outside and Inside interface?

MY ASA5540 has 40 L2L IPsec VPN tunnels to other sites. One of tunnels has packet drop often ( but the tunnel remind up ). Called ISP and confirm its not ISP issue. Is there any method to troubleshoot the issue ? what should I look at in the configuration ? any help will be appericated.

Why This Report Not Working in Production Server But in Development Server

This is a sort of performance issue , because your program takes more than the max time set for the program to execute in foreground.
There are many stuff in program which will hamper your performance.
I will list down a few
1. SELECT *
FROM konp
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE konp_itab
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN a363_itab
WHERE knumh EQ a363_itab-knumh
in this statement you are using for all entries a363_itab , but before this statement you are not checking if the table has any entry or not , please do remember that for all entries has this characterstic , that if you internal table does not contain any record , then all the records are selected from the database table. So in this case if you table a363_itab is empty , so what you want is no data must be seelcted from table konp , but what will happen is all the records in KONP will be seelcted.
2. While retreiving data you are using seelct * even though you do not require all the fields , an example is
<b>SELECT *
FROM mkpf
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE mkpf_itab
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN mseg_itab
WHERE mblnr EQ mseg_itab-mblnr.</b>
in this your internal table contains only 2 fields
<b>mblnr LIKE mkpf-mblnr, "Number of Material Document
bldat LIKE mkpf-bldat, "Document Date in Document</b> , but to get these 2 fields you are selecting all the fields of the table.
3. In select you are using into corresponding fields of table , it is not a good practice., so please avoidd it.
Please understand that you must try to reduce the access to your database tables and try to keep it minimal , because this same thing may happen becasue data in DEV is very less compared to the volume of data in production , so a program working in DEV will take much more time in PRD if not written properly and may result in timeouts , as in your case.
Please try to make chanegs to the prorgam and see if it works.

I guess this problem with modeldata ......i should maintain the usermanagement method for modeldata jco destination is logon ticket.

Please check the logon group properties for SAP system in t-code SMLG. If there is any issue with logon group then it might cause for this issue.

I am trying to deploy a simple simple WEB service -which works fine within the
workshop 8.1 environment- on a different "production" server.
I generated manually all the JMS queues on the target database, as well as the
pointbase additional tables as specified in the documentation (based on the <wlw-manifest.xml>
file included in the ear file) .
The deployment ends with following error:

RMAN backup restoring to new server help!
I'm using Oracle 8.1.7. The production database was copied (datafiles, controlfile etc) to a NEW server that I'm trying to set up as a development DB. I take full database backups using RMAN from the production server, and I want to restore them on the development server. I think I somehow have to specify the filename/location of the backup file but I can't seem to figure out how to do it.
I am not using a recovery catalog.
Any help is appreciated.If you restore the controlfile backup to the development server RMAN
will "read" the expected location of the backupsets from there.
In 8i you cannot use the CATALOG command so you have to copy all
the backupsets to the same path on the development server as on the
production server.
Once you have your init.ora and controlfiles in place (and created the
expected target directory structure for the database and redolog files),
you can use STARTUP MOUNT and thene RESTORE from RMAN.
I believe that you should be able to rename files in 8i RMAN as well.
If not, you'll have to stick to restoring to the same location.
The key thing is that the controlfile records the "location" of the RMAN backupsets
and the "location" where datafiles are to be restored to. -
New production server PLUS upgrade!
After years of groveling, weekly church visits, and burning incense, it appears that I will finally be able to get a new production server for our 3.3 TB data warehouse. They are also going to add 2 TB of space to our main storage array.
In addition, management wants to upgrade from 10.2.0.3 to 11gR2 as part of that migration. Our current server was not able to handle 11g, according to Oracle.
In recent times, I have had to do some very non-standard things as a dba, mostly due to insufficient resources. So these migrations may not be as straightforward as what you read in the docs, and therefore I would like some opinions about how best to achieve the migration to the new box, and to 11gR2.
Our current environment is a Sunfire 6800 Sparc 64 box with 12 900mhz cpus and 16G of ram, and Solaris 10.
Most of our datafiles are housed on a 3.7 TB Sun 2540 storage array, but due to space and performance constraints, it was decided to put one very large and mostly unimportant tablespace (350G) on a 2.1 TB Sun 3511 array. We also put our 2 temporary tablespaces (about 54G) on that array. Also on the 3511 array is our db_recovery_file_dest area, with all of our archived redo logs and flashback logs. Due to lack of space there, I have to direct our RMAN database file backups, archived log backups, and exports to an unsupported Hitachi SAN, which is 8 years old, like our Sunfire 6800.
The new server is a Sun M4000 with Solaris 10, so the OS will not be an issue. It will have 4 4-way 2.5ghz processors and 32G of ram. The newly expanded 2540 array will have enough space to hold us for a few years. It is currently 3.7TB, using 2.6 of that. When expanded, it will be about 5.8TB.
My mission is to move all of the temporary tablespace and other data files (about 1 TB) and the exports (1 TB) to the newly expanded 2540. We will keep the space (2.1 TB) allocated on the 3511 attached to the new server, but it will be used ONLY for recovery-related files; rman backups, flashback logs, archived logs, etc. My goal is to keep at least two full rman backups in that space, along with all the necessary archived log backups. We are supposed to get everything off of the old SAN. So, there will be a lot of file shuffling, nothing new for this shop.
My plan would be to install 10.2.0.3 (same exact version) on the new server, then hook it up to the existing storage arrays. (My boss thinks that will reformat all of the disks on those arrays, but I don't think that is necessarily true. I believe it is possilble to mount each file system on those arrays to the new box, so long as they have been unmounted from the old one. Then again, I am not a Unix Admin)
Next, I would startup-mount the database, move the necessary files to the 2540 using Oracle and Unix commands, then shut down the db. Then, I would install 11gR2 with all patches on the new server, and upgrade the database manually, in place.
If my boss is right and connecting the new server to the existing arrays means re-initializing them, he asked if we could use our last RMAN backup to restore the database in the new environment. I said if we were still running 10g at that time on the new server, and all the file systems were identical, that should be possible. However, I should note that we do NOT use an RMAN catalog (RMAN uses the controlfile). We have no place to put an RMAN catalog. I have never even had a place to test doing a restore with RMAN.
If anyone out there has been through a migration to a new server along with an Oracle upgrade, I would appreciate any ideas on the best way to go about it.Hi,
Its not recommended to upgrade OS and Database same time. I would recommend :
1) Migrate database from Old Server to new Severs.
-> Install OS, packages, patches, create users, groups, mount points and configure kernel parameters as required.
-> Restore $ORACLE_HOME, inventories, mount all data partitions on same mount points similar to old servers
-> Perform relink for all oracle home binaries using command relink all command.
