Pacman 3 can't download pkg

Hi, I just downloaded Arch Duke the LinuxTag edition. Did a clean install and so far so good.
The problem is I can't install anything using the new pacman 3.
I did a
pacman -Sy
I used the Xfer command to use wget to download the packages. Pacman actually managed to connect to the repository, but it can't download the db. I can see the progress bar but it is not moving. FYI, I used the ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/current/os/i686, so I don't think there is something wrong with the repo.
I also tried
pacman --debug -Sy
but it shows nothing as pacman actually just stuck there when trying to download the file.
This problem wasn't there when I was using pacman 2.9.8. I expect pacman 3 will do everything the previous version capable to do
Oh yeah, and I am using proxy.
Btw, in case anyone asking, this is my pacman.conf:
# /etc/pacman.conf
# See the pacman manpage for option directives
# GENERAL OPTIONS

LogFile = /var/log/pacman.log
HoldPkg = pacman glibc

Please help. Thanks!

Hi, everyone
Thanks for the reply.
The problem might be with your proxy. Try using it without it?
Unfortunately, I have no control over using proxy or direct connection as I'm using university's connection.
I've experienced the same problem yesterday when I tried to install Arch within qemu. Everything else network-related worked: I was able to browse the web using links and pacman was even able to download the .db.tar.gz files from the mirror I've selected, but when it came to download the actual packages, pacman stalled.
My case is a bit different. I also can not download the db file
My guess is because of the new pacman. I didn't have these problems when I was using earlier version of pacman. So, I expect a workaround to make it work in my box.

but it is really strange that when i uncommented "http://ftp.archlinux.org..."  in mirrorlist it is the same error
so what destination for all that mirrors are?
and when I download package from web-interface http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/openbox/ it successfuly downloaded from mirrors.kernel.org but pacman can't...
I'm completely dumb, or the universe had hell changed
As you see, my english is stupid.

  • Can't install any media player - pacman can't find all the files

I'm quite new to Linux. At the moment I can't view any videos or listen to music.
I tried installing mplayer using pacman - several files downloaded successfully, I watched the progress bars... but others couldn't be found. When I try again using a different mirror, from the output you can see that pacman requests 36 installation files for mplayer but it can't locate 14 of them.
I've tried three mirrors in the UK and one in Belgium. I get a similar problem trying to install VLC. Pacman has never failed me before, although admittedly last time I used him was to download firefox in December 2009.
This is what I get if I try again to install mplayer now:
    pacman -S mplayer

Checking on the mirrors manually, I see that the package versions are incorrect. For example, http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/ffmpeg/ has ffmpeg at version 23792-1 but pacman is looking for 23619-1.
    Any ideas?
EDIT: this is an install from this morning, from the 2010.05 core disk. Post install, I ran pacman -Syu and then installed some packages without issue.

  • [solved] pacman can't acces repositories, but my web browser does

    Hi,
there is a strange problem. Today I tried a pacman -Syu to update, but pacman can't acces my repositories. Gives me errors of
error: failed retrieving file 'core.db' from mirror.archlinux.ro : No address record
I tried different mirrors, change the protocol from ftp to http, but without result. The strange think is that I can access those repositories with my web browser, so I think that it is pacman or python problem.

  • Where can I download freetype2-lcd tarball

    Hi folks,
    Archlinux 86-64 2007-08-2
    Following;
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php
    on searching I found
Location Category Name Votes Description Maintainer
unsupported lib freetype2-lcd 2.3.5-3 84 TrueType font rendering library (with custom LCD filter) eWoud
unsupported lib freetype2-lcd_ 2.3.5-1 8 TrueType font rendering library for LCD Displays sda00
But the links displayed here don't provide "freetype2-lcd" package.
    On googling I found;
    freetype2-lcd-2.3.5-13.1.src.rpm
    and
    freetype2-lcd-2.3.5-13.1.i586.rpm
    on
    http://download.opensuse.org/repositori … -13.1.html
But they are rpm packages NOT tarball.
Please advise where can I download a workable freetype2-lcd tarball
    TIA
    B.R.

  • Where does pacman saves the downloaded stuff?

When I first installed a program, it installed but pacman needed to download things, I then remove it but... When I re-install it again, pacman doesn't need to download the things any more...
Where does pacman store the downloaded stuff?
How do I get rid of them?

    /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    pacman -Sc  or pacman -Scc
i recommend -Sc ,  -Scc can be harmful in the long run if you ever need to downgrade a package

  • How can I download iphoto 9

Somehow I lost my iphoto program, still have all my pictures in "all images".  How can I download again, i photo 9?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Hi, I can't download my photos from my camera onto iPhoto!

Hi, I can't download my photos from my camera into iPhoto!  A few months ago I bought iPhoto 9.1.1 (on it's own from iTunes) and it's been working fine till now.  When I plug in the camera (Lumix LX3) the flying pizza starts and eventually I have to turn off the camera and force quit iPhoto.  I don't think it can be a camera problem as I have successfully dowloaded same photos from same camera onto my laptop (with older version of iPhoto) and it works perfectly. Please help me - what am I doing wrong?  Also, is there a limit to the amount of photos i can keep in iPhoto?  I have quite a lot, and wonder if it simply is full up and cannot take any more?  Thanks! Mands

  • Where can I download complete Xcode Developer Tools for OS-X 10.6?

I have OS-X version 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard, I think). I do not have Xcode installed. I do not have the original MAC DVD.
I figured out I needed Xcode 3.2. When I download "Xcode 3.2" it from Apple, during install it says it failed "to locate package at ~/Packages/DeveloperTools.pkg".
Downloading "Xcode 3.2.1 Developer Tools" (there is no "Xcode 3.2 Developer Tools"), installing it results in the same error message. (The contents of this DMG is "XcodeTools.mpkg".)
Maybe I should download "Xcode 3.2.6 and iOS SDK 4.3 for Snow Leopard"? (But that is 4.14GB and I can't download that right now.)
Or am I stuck because I do not have the original DVD which I may need to get "DeveloperTools.pkg"?
(Also, why do you think the DMG binaries are so huge? The "Xcode 3.2" DMG for example, is 1GB, but the inside "Xcode.mpkg" is only 541KB!)

Any of the Xcode 3.2.x download packages will work with Snow Leopard. You don't need the Snow Leopard DVD to install Xcode, but if you had the DVD things would be easier for you because you could install Xcode from the DVD and not have to download it. If you don't need to develop for iOS, Xcode 3.2.2 is 744.71 MB, which is a much smaller download than Xcode 3.2.6.
The Xcode binaries are huge because you're downloading and installing more than just Xcode. There are other GUI apps, such as Interface Builder, Instruments, Dashcode, and Quartz Composer. There are also command-line tools. And there may also be developer documentation included with the Xcode binaries. All that adds up.

  • Can't open .pkg, can't find installer

I'm trying to install new drivers for a M-Audio recording interface, the file is a .pkg, and I can't find Mac OS Installer. What can I use to open it, or where can I find a download for Mac OS installer? I don't even know why my computer doesn't have Mac OS installer.. I just installed Tiger only 5 days ago.

It should be in your Applications/Utilities folder. If it isn't there you can do a custom install of software from your install discs (no need to do a full OS install). You can't download it from anywhere.

  • Boot camp can't download Windows support files

    Hello, guys
My problem is that bootcamp can't download drivers for windows 7, and as it seems to me, he didn't try (no Windows Support folder at all at FAT32 formated drive)
The progress goes to the 1/3, and then nothing, 30 minutes later it said network problem, but everything else goes fine.
I've tried to find alternative download on Apple bootcamp site, but nothing.
I'm using Macbook Pro Retina (MC975), Mountain Lion 10.8.2, and Bootcamp assistant 5.0

I've to download compatible BootCampESD.pkg from Apple .sucatalog and extract all the necessary drivers.
    Problem solved

  • Can't Download Any iTunes

So, iTunes messed up my 2nd gen. iPod (click wheel). Sound slike it's giving a lot of people ****. Had a otn of problems with it and my iPod so I figured if I could just delete iTunes 7 and get the older version back, then I could have muy iPod functional and wait for Mac to pull its collective head out of its *** and do something, which would be GREAT. Anyway,I deleted iTunes 7 and tried to DL itunes 6.0.5 and it said that there was nothing to be installed. I deleted EVERYTHING iTunes form my computer and re-tried it. Still, it was to no avail. At this point, I figure a bad iTunes is better than no iTunes, so I try to download 7 again but it said the exact same thing; that there was nothing to be installed. There is no iTunes on my computer and it appears I can't download it at all. If there's anyone who could give me some advice, you may be saving the life of a Macbook. Thanks a ton.

Go to HD>Library>Receipts> and remove iTunesX.pkg. Then try to reinstall what ever version of iTunes you want.
I have 7.0.1 and OSX 10.4.8 - a second gen iPod as well as a iPod Photo and all is well. I am having no problems.
Is your iPod software/firmware up to date?
