Pacman --sync: could not open sync database: extra

I'de like to install packages from the extra repository.
So I tried:
pacman --sync
This told me:
error: could not open sync database: extra
have you used --refresh yet?
So I did this.
But still pacman --sync tells me the same.
I have
Include = /etc/packman.d/extra
in /etc/pacman.conf.
What else is missing?

Don't know that this is the problem but you have a spelling error in your code line.
Pacman doesn't have a "k" in it.
Oh, yes. I have made the error when a copied it. But in the config file it is in fact without 'k'.
Include = /etc/pacman.d/extra
So this is not the problem.

That mirror does have a problem...but switching to a different mirror returns the same mystery local error. PS-I haven't had portaudio installed on my system in at least 6 months, and pacman has started returning errors about it this morning

[SOLVED] pacman error: could not open file /var/lib ...

the actual error is
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/community/fonteditfs-1.2-2/desc: No such file or directory
removing that folder fixed it. i dont know if it was a coding mistake or just my box did something stupid today :S
any thoughts?

If you've synchronized pacman after you've removed the file all should be well now, maybe something indeed went wrong during an update (maybe your mirror went down or something, you never know).

So it's my first time installing and I've made it to the point were I'm ready to install X11.
When I run "pacman -S xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils" my console returns the following errors:

error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/multilib.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/community-testing.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/community.db: Unrecognized archive format

These errors repeat again followed by:

I'm in Canada, so I've only set my mirror list to use "Server = http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch"
Also, in my /etc/pacman.conf all SigLevel's are = Never.

I am trying to install Arch but when I type "pacstrap /mnt base base-devel" I keep on getting this error "error could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db unrecognized archive format".
I have tried:
# rm -R /var/lib/pacman/sync/
# pacman -Syuf
I have also tried pacman -Syy with no luck.
What more is there to do besides installing ubuntu?

Pacstrap was telling you it couldn't open a file, so you just deleted the entire directory tree? Did it appear to be downloading the database files correctly before this? Did you try running pacstrap again after you deleted everything?
And then you tried to run pacman with the -f (force) option? What happened? "no luck" doesn't tell us anything.
What more is there to do besides installing ubuntu?
There are many things you can do. You can give us more information about what you did and what happened. Did you follow all the steps in the Beginners Guide up to the pacstrap step? Did you get any errors or warnings before that step? Are you sure you had a working network connection? Did you interrupt the pacstrap process at any time? Did you try running it again after you deleted /var/lib/pacman/sync?
Did you check the sha1sum of the iso you downloaded before you put it on a usb stick?

When you got the error, did you do
ls /var/lib/pacman/sync
to see what (if anything) was there?

When I open iTunes it is slow to open for one, and two when it does see my iPhone and i go to sync it this is what I get in return... The iPhone "My Name here" could not be synced because the iPhone could not be found on the network. that is a pop up box

Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with syncing your iPhone. It sounds like you computer is not authorized for some of the purchases on your iPhone.
I am not sure if you have authorized your computer, but I recommend trying that first. If you have purchases from multiple Apple IDs on your iPhone, you will need to authorize all the Apple IDs used to make purchases. Use these steps:
Open iTunes on the computer you want to authorize.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You may need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.

When syncing on iTunes, the syncing meter runs in iTunes in my computer but nothing appears in my device (It should have Sync In Progress). Whenever I edit my music files (editing title, album and artwork), it edits in iTunes but when I eject my device, nothing's changed. My device is a 3rd Gen iTouch and this is my second 3rd gen iTouch unit. I lost my first unit and am familiar with how it operates so I do not understand what is causing this. The 4 view option buttons "show items in a song list... etc" (beside the search field, upper right corner) won't work. Now in my 3rd attempt to sync, as i right click on my ipod name in iTunes to select sync, this appears ,"The ipod could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" and my only option is to click OK. Please help. My apps are kinda slow too and theres a slight delay opening files and apps in my iTouch.

I have several items that I would like to have on my phone but I can;t get them on there. I get a message stating they could not be synced and see itunes for more information, but there isnt any information on itunes. When you sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod; iTunes creates a small version of each photo and stores them in a folder called “iPod Photo Cache.” Sometimes, inconsistencies between the real photos and photos in the cache folder may result in this error. Don’t worry, this folder will be recreated automatically the next time you sync photos and removing this folder will not erase your original photos. Here is how you can locate the iPod Photo Cache folder so you can drag it to your Trash (on a Mac) or Recycle Bin (on a PC). Follow: Go > Home, then open the Pictures folder and find the iPhoto Library file. Control-click the iPhoto Library and choose Show Package Contents where you can locate the iPod Photo Cache folder and drag it to the Trash. Then restart iTunes to re-initiate your sync.

Sync of new iPad mini, popup on mini says 53 items could not be synced, see iTunes for more info. OK.
Where in iTunes is more info? Which 53 items? I can find no clue. Also iBooks blows up on 2 of my books that open fine on my old iPad 1, maybe they didn't sync?

I see now after the Sync, a !triangle appears next to my mini in iTunes. Clicking on it brings up a list. Sure would be nice to be able to Save that list, since I can't fix anything while that list is showing! And once you close it, the warnings disappear along with the triangle. I ended up using Grab to save the info.
Reset Warnings also makes the triangle go away. Along with all that info.

I have done the restore on it, but still get the message... I realize that the restore takes away everything on the iPod, but I was hoping I wouldn't get the message again.. nop

Just made one very simple move without having to restore iPhone or reinstall iTunes..

In my case, Leave iPhone connected all the way. I first exit iTunes. Then i stopped the Apple Mobile device support (by following a part on that link above in step 1) which Effectively made my iPhone undetectable on itunes but discoverable by windows as a 'camera device'. Then while device is still connected, i started the Apple mobile dev support again. Now i open itunes and there my iPhone re-appears.
2nd step: After your iphone re-appears on iTunes, press Sync and all is well...
P.S, Mine is iPhone 4 running on iOS 5, iTunes 10.5, Windows 7..

All music, videos and ringtones purchased were deleted on the device and now it is impossible at all to sync the iPhone with the computer, both by USB and Wi Fi.
It always appears at step 5 of the syncronization the message:
"The iPhone “iPhone” could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish."
Has anyone experienced the same problem and has found the solution or we have to wait a bug fix from Apple?

Just made one very simple move without having to restore iPhone or reinstall iTunes..
1st step:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 *Read 'in my case' in here first before following this link*
Follow that link to restart (or if necessary) reinstall your Apple mobile device support.
In my case, Leave iPhone connected all the way. I first exit iTunes. Then i stopped the Apple Mobile device support (by following a part on that link above in step 1) which Effectively made my iPhone undetectable on itunes but discoverable by windows as a 'camera device'. Then while device is still connected, i started the Apple mobile dev support again. Now i open itunes and there my iPhone re-appears.
2nd step: After your iphone re-appears on iTunes, press Sync and all is well...
P.S, Mine is iPhone 4 running on iOS 5, iTunes 10.5, Windows 7..
