Page load speed

Hello,
What are the factors that weight in APEX page loading time ? How can we pinpoint which factor is causing the app to be slow.
e.g:
I have two instances that have almost the same configuration, but there is around 100 ms difference in the page loading time.
The first one is here:
user: test
pwd: test
94.200.97.14:9999/apex/f?p=110:1
Product Build: 4.2.2.00.11

APEX_LISTENER_VERSION 2.0.2.133.14.47
Glassfish 3.1.2
Machine: assembled PC: Intel i7 , 16 GB RAM.
Windows 7
The second one is here:
user: test
pwd: test
94.200.97.14:8080/apex/f?p=100:1
Product Build: 4.2.2.00.11
CORE 11.2.0.3.0 Production
APEX_LISTENER_VERSION 2.0.2.133.14.47
Glassfish 3.1.2
Windows 2008 R2
Machine:  HP server with the following specs:
DL380p Gen8 E5-2609 (4 core, 2.40
GHz, 10MB, 80W)P420i /512MB
FBWC, 4x1Gb Flex 16GB DDR3
Registered Memory (LV DIMM)
SFF HP DVD-RW, 1x460W Gold
HP 600GB 6G SAS 10K 2.5in SC ENT
The problem is the instance the is running in a certified server that is HP DL380p is slower than the instance that is running on the assembled PC.
Regards,

Interesting.
My unscientific test was that initial load on both was very slow, perhaps slower on the first server.  Then as expected, once woken up it seemed acceptable.  Not snappy but good.  Looking at the network traffic using Developer Tools, I have 300+ms spend just waiting. Then delivery is very fast.  It seems to be on all pages.
So... I think the DB needs to be tuned or perhaps there's a lot of swapping going on.  Hard to tell.
Clearly you're not even at the Application tuning step yet.  Your environment has some bottlenecks somewhere.  But you already knew that.
Sorry I can't be of more help
Thanks

  • Why has my page loading speed slowed on OS6?

My page loading speed has slowed to a crawl with OS6.  Anybody else having this problem?  I feel like I have a dial up connection.

  • Slow FF startup and page load speed

TIP TO IMPROVE SPEED(?): My FF startup and page load speeds increased dramatically when I used the auto feature in Ashampoo WinOptimizer 6 to adjust my internet settings. I've been using the comparable feature in TuneUp Utilities 2009 and FF speed was worse than abysmal. Hope this helps some of you. (You can obtain a trial version from Ashampoo or CNET; actually v7 is out and appears to be even better.)
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Always

Gmail only allowed to log into one message or link or folder then ff 3.6.4 freezes.
I have gone back to 5.2 to get it to work yet every time it updates ff freezes. Why is this?
If I reinstall 3.5.2 will I ba able to get an answer to this problem else I may not be able to see what you send me.

  • DL/page load speed great, but browser "looking up" and "connecting to" slow

I just got Fios Internet on Monday.  The speed of downloading and webpage loading is really good!  However, there is one annoying problem that maybe someone can help with?  When I enter a URL, it takes a long time for the browser to "look up" and "connect to" the site.  For example, it takes 10 seconds to "look up" google.com (which should load almost instantly).  The problem is that many sites that pull from different advertisers... getting on a news site is awful because it takes forever for the internet to look up "ads.cnn.com" and "advertisements.ystd.dhsk.com" or whatever.  But once if finally looks them up and connects to them, the ads load quickly.
Any ideas about what I can try?
    Solved!

Ok, a bunch of replies, so here's some more information:
1.)  I'm using a Mac... Operating system is OS X 10.4.11.  Web browser is FireFox.
2.)  I changed DNS servers to Open DNS (followed the directions provided on their site).  No change in the time delay.
3.)  Just to reiterate-  This is not an issue of load speed.  Once the content is "looked up" from the site, it loads quickly.  It's the "looking up" and "connecting to" processes that take ridiculously long (ie. 13-15 seconds to look up google.com... puhleeze!)  The delay is the same no matter what site I go to.  And certain sites are awful (ie. sites that pull ad content from different sources... takes 10 seconds to access all of the ads.google.com, admedia.cnn.com, etc).... so the page takes forever to actually load.
4.)  Nothing is slow about my computer... operating system, other programs, browser itself... all fine.  The only thing that is a problem is the "look up," "connecting to," etc. time.
5.)  dslr595.... I went to that site and tried the "ping" and "traceroute" steps, but I don't have a "network utilities" in my "utilities" folder.  BUT-  after reading that site, it sounds like that is more the type of issues that exists-  the response time.  Brand and model of the router is Actiontec MI424WR.
I appreciate all the feedback and would welcome more.... thanks everyone!

  • Web pages load SLOW on IPad: how to disable DNS prefetching; other ideas?

Brand new IPad 16 GB WiFi + brand new Airport Extreme in bridge mode. Comparing IPad web page load speeds with side-by-side WinXP computer running IE8. Any web site will do: take www.apple.com if you want.
Problem: IPad web pages generally load much too slowly compared to IE8 on a computer 6 inches away on the same Airport Extreme network. Maybe twice as slow at worst, occasionally not much slower, but generally pathetic and annoying. WiFi signal strength is "excellent". Airport Extreme network is working great with all my (Windows) computers and devices except the IPad.
I already switched to OpenDNS on my Airport Extreme; didn't help noticeably. I would like to try disabling DNS prefetching in Safari, but don't know how to do it on the IPad. Question #1: How do I disable DNS prefetching? Question #2: Any other suggestions for this embarrassing (to Apple) problem?

I'm experiencing a similar problem with a new iPad 2 using iOS 4.3.3 connected to the Internet via Time Machine to a DSL line.  The Speedtest X HD App shows the connection speed to be fine (about .6 Mb / s).  The problem is only with accessing web pages.  I frequently get a "server not responding" msg.  There is no problem when I connect the device via USB to an iMac, only through wifi.  The iMac itself (Intel with OSX 10.6.7) periodically experiences problems (both Firefox and Safari):  I have learned to solve it by cleaning out cache and fixing disk permissions periodically.  I've tried cleaning out cache on the iPad, deleting cookies and erasing web history, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.  The problem reminds me of an old VNC problem:  you had to allocate a large amount of cache or streaming would stall.  This is also happening with the iPad 2.  Maybe the problem is a DNS channel issue but my impression is that it is somehow related to a memory or cache issue with the iOS device or to Airport.  I've occassionally experienced similar slow page loading problems with other Airport connected devices--it varies from device to device.  It seems to be a client-side software or caching problem.

  • Macbook Pro/Mozilla Firefox --Page Loading Problems

I experience 'page loading' problems when going from one page to another. Sometimes the page takes a long time to load. Sometimes it times out and never does load.
Does anyone else with this combination of laptop and browser experience these problems? Any suggestions for overcoming this lag?

I know OS X used to have some problems with the way some routers do DNS.  There was this topic a while ago:
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/DL-page-load-speed-great-but-browser-quot-looking-up-quot...
For our Mac we had to set the router to send external IP addresses of a DNS system (either verizon's or something like OpenDNS which we use).
You could manually change the DNS settings on the Mac to see if that fixes the problem and then you could mac the change the settings at the router level if you like.

  • Safari page load problems and 10.5.3

Since I have upgraded to 10.5.3, I am experiencing Safari page load problems on all my user accounts on my 2.0 GHz Core Duo Black MacBook. I have reviewed threads in this forum and that of the Safari forum with no solution that solves the problem. so I post here in hopes of additional expert solution ideas.
*The Problem:* Since upgrading to 10.5.3 Safari fails to complete page downloads for some, but not all websites. When these same websites are accessed with Firefox there is no problem. With Safari the page load will stop at about 75% completion, or the page will not load at all.
Here is an example of a webpage that will not complete: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/
Here is an example of a webpage that will not load at all: http://cherylsguitar.com/site (my wife's business)
I also have a G4 iMac running 10.4.11 on the same WiFi network that does NOT experience the Safari page load problems. All is good and speedy on this trusty machine.
    *Solutions Attempted:*
    - Deleted plist (with no effect)
    - Re-installed Safari from Leopard disk (with no effect)
    - Scoured User Preferences in Library for offending applications, plug-ins, etc.
    - Reset PRAM
    - Reset and examined cable modem and router (AirPort Extreme 802.11g)
    *Hardware and Network info:*
    - 2.0 GHz Core Duo Black MacBook
    - 2 GB Ram
    - AirPort Extreme Base Station (generation 1) running 802.11g

    Allan,
Yes. I have reset Safari clearing all but website icons with no effect. I also tried turning of the Safari pop-up blocker with some very limited success. Disabling pop-up blocker will marginally help page load speed for some websites, but others still fail to load at all.
Thanks for taking time to post.

  • Want to prevent pictures from loading in order to speed up page loading.

In order to minimize data usage and to speed up page loading, I can get by with text only. No pictures required.
Any way to do this in a "global" way?
    Thank you

You can disable images completely by setting permissions.default.image to 2 on the <b>about:config</b> page.
Note that this can cause issues with buttons that are a background image.

You can look at this extension:

  • Want to block tracking for speed (page loading) more than privacy. Will it help? What are appropriate addons?

When loading pages, new sites off of Google new for instance, I notice that the page takes a very long time to load while analytics load for google, facebook, advertisers, etc, in the bottom left of the screen. It seems to have gotten much much worse in the last couple of years. The pages load MUCH faster with javascript disabled. But too many other web functions require javascripting to leave it off permanently.
Would a Firefox add-on help speed things up a bit by blocking tracking/analytics? Would it disrupt too much other content/service?
    Thanks.

    NoScript extension: <br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 <br />
    http://noscript.net/
It is a royal pain to use until you get it setup for all your commonly visited website - there's a steep learning curve with NoScript, but I wouldn't surf without it.
If you are not already blocking advertisements, you might want to consider AdblockPlus and a good filterset. <br />
    AdblockPlus <br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/ <br />
    Also, read this: <br />
    http://adblockplus.org/en/getting_started
I keep a default version of Firefox installed to refer to so I don't forget what the average user has to deal with, when I am doing "support". It really irks me when web page loading is delayed while waiting for a a slow "ad server" to decide which advertisement it is going to load for me for that web page visit.

  • How can I time the speed at which a page loads?

    Hi,
I've tested my internet connection speed with a download test from CNET, but I was wondering if there was a stopwatch, that would record the time it took to open a page. Anybody heard of such a thing?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi
    View Menu>Status Bar, select it.
You'll see the page load on the left, time load on the right.

Opps - now I'm too fast!
With Firefox open, enter http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/installation.html in the URL window. This will install this add-on to the browser providing the time load indicator.

  • Speed up image / page loading

I've done a remake of the website for my company.  I'm a hobbyist web person - not my full time job here.  My boss wanted lots of images.  Well - now that we have them, he says the page takes too long to load.  Any pointers on how to get the images / page loaded faster?  The template I have based the site on has an ajax pre-loader but it doesn't seem to actually pre-load all the images.  The galleries still take a while to load when you view them.  The site is up at http://www.morgansmithllc.com.  Any suggestions on how to speed things up that a hobbyist user of DW can implement?  Thanks!

This is one of the downfalls of a single page layout. In that type of layout, everything must be loaded because it all exists on the single page.
As a result I tried running your page through some analyzers and found there are some extremely large files that are being used.  The backgrounds are huge and could likely be further compressed.  Right now your top 6 images are 10MB of the 20+MB page size which is far too large.  Also I see a lot of parallax javascript hanging around.  Just because a website is a single page does not mean it needs to be a parallax site.  In fact, for this type of site I would recommend removing the parallax because there is no need for it.
If you simplify the site in those ways, that should help a good deal with the loading and scrolling speeds.

  • Slow web page loads on Mac, but not for PC

I use a D-Link wireless router (DI-524) for my PowerBook G4 15" and my roommate's Dell PC. Very recently I seem to get very slow web page loads with some pages not even loading at all.
Airport is consistently connected with no drops at all and when I'm downloading something it never gets interrupted the whole way through.
My roommate's PC has no problem whatsoever and all of the web pages that he visits load instantly. It seems that my main problem is with web pages.
I've tried doing a clean install on my Powerbook, I've tried resetting the router (I've tried upgrading the firmware but the router decided it didn't want to work with the new version). And surprisingly, I get the same slow speeds when I hook up my Powerbook to my router via ethernet cable. The only time my speeds are perfectly fine is when I hook up my Powerbook directly to the wall (I dorm in a university so we have a T3 line).
Can someone please give me some advice on this very frustrating issue?

In addition to Neds suggestions, empty the Safari cache (which should be empty after a clean install).
Goto the Safari Get Info screen (in Finder or in Dock if you have Safari there), click the triangle on languages, and disable those you don't use.
My Safari response time was significantly slowed after the 10.4.5 update, and using the combo updater took care of that. The 10.4.6 combo update is located here.

  • My Internet Connection is Fast, but Web Pages load slowl

I have tested my connection on several websites. I am using RoadRunner and I consistently get speeds between 3500-4500 kbps. In the past few days I have the same internet speed but all my web pages load really slow. Up until this problem I would click on a link and it would take 2-3 seconds to load the next page. Now it is more like 15-20 seconds. Once I get a page loaded if I download something from that site it is still a fast download.
Any ideas on what could have slowed loading web pages , but download speed still shows really fast?
    Your help is appreciated
    Cheers
    mrjazz

If your download speeds are still fast, it is most likely the broswer that is slow in rendering the pages.
Are you using Safari and if so, do you leave it open all the time? Safari is notorious for hogging RAM and CPU cycles and slowing to a crawl if you do not quit and restart it.

  • Slow loading speed

I use verizon DSL, my plan is $29.99, and the speed is up to 3 Mbps/
768Kbps. I checked the speed at http://infospeed.verizon.net/speedtest/, it always is under or around 2414Kbits/Sec and 301KBytes/Sec, Occasionally reach 2822.9Kbits and 352.9KBytes. and the page's loading speed is very slow,
    what's wrong about it?
Thank you and happy thanksgiving to all.

2414Kbits/Sec = 2.4 Mbps. I would say your connection is doing very well. You will never reach 3 Mbps as this is the theoretical best that you can do. Speed can vary greatly. That said, testing on the Verizon site I got 84507Kbits/sec (84.5 Mbps!!! ??) on my 6 Mbps cable connection. On other tests sites (see below) I got between 1.2 and 5.7 Mbps today. Speed can really vary sometimes for various reasons including network traffic. Try some of these tests and contact Verizon if you are not satisfied for more information about your connection and speed. Note that the speakeasy test also tests your upload speed, which is very unusual for these types of tests.

  • Status bar with opera style page loading statistics?

Anyone ever seen an app or terminal code or something that allows us to see page loading stats (seconds taken, # images loaded, speed, etc) like the status bar in Opera or one you can load in FF? I would love to have this ability in Safari. I found one that gives instant feedback on W3C compliance of the loaded page, but not about page loading stats.

I want simple and quick view of time took page to load, how many images, speed, etc...
Load times can be found under Develop > Show Network Timeline, or by clicking on the Network icon located in the left-side column of the main Web Inspector window.
I use it sometimes BUT it is a stand alone window...
You might try clicking on the window-merge toggle button found in the extreme lower left corner of the Web Inspector window, directly underneath the Network icon. Good luck.
