Speed up image / page loading

I've done a remake of the website for my company.  I'm a hobbyist web person - not my full time job here.  My boss wanted lots of images.  Well - now that we have them, he says the page takes too long to load.  Any pointers on how to get the images / page loaded faster?  The template I have based the site on has an ajax pre-loader but it doesn't seem to actually pre-load all the images.  The galleries still take a while to load when you view them.  The site is up at http://www.morgansmithllc.com.  Any suggestions on how to speed things up that a hobbyist user of DW can implement?  Thanks!

This is one of the downfalls of a single page layout. In that type of layout, everything must be loaded because it all exists on the single page.
As a result I tried running your page through some analyzers and found there are some extremely large files that are being used.  The backgrounds are huge and could likely be further compressed.  Right now your top 6 images are 10MB of the 20+MB page size which is far too large.  Also I see a lot of parallax javascript hanging around.  Just because a website is a single page does not mean it needs to be a parallax site.  In fact, for this type of site I would recommend removing the parallax because there is no need for it.
If you simplify the site in those ways, that should help a good deal with the loading and scrolling speeds.

  • Browsers not loading images, pages loading like text pages.

    I've had an issue for months now that comes and goes where images will not load on any browser I use. When the issue comes up, I'll open all the browsers I have to find its occuring on all of them, they are: Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
    I'm also getting an issue where pages will load like a text or source page. I've tried clearing the cache and resetting Safari, restarting my iMac, but it doesn't work. Then when I used the computer later in the day it'll be fine, it's an issue that comes and goes throughout the day and I'm not sure what's causing it or how to fix it.
    Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

  • Flash hijacking HTML links while images are loading

    I've designed a slide show player using Flash and Actionscript 3.0 which loads several external images. While the images are loading, the HTML links on my page (outside of the Flash movie) don't work. As soon as all the images are loaded, the links start working again. It seems like the Flash player is hijacking the browser while the images are loading which can take the better part of a minute depending on my connection speed. I can click an HTML link once during the loading time and as soon as the images have loaded, the browser loads the new page (the one the HTML links to). Once all the images are in my Temporary Internet Files folder, this problem ceases to exist (since the images no longer need to be downloaded). It's only first-time viewers that will have this problem, but it's a pretty major problem.
    To see what I'm talking about, go to:
    http://www.ericlindberg.com/indexTemp.html
    Click the Images button after the "Loading..." animation disappears but before all the images are loaded. As the images load the thumbnails at the bottom of the Flash player go from 50% to 100% opaque. If  you click the "Images" button before all the thumbnails are 100% opaque, nothing happens. However, once they are all loaded and the thumbnails are all 100% opaque, the "Images" page loads. You can do the same thing with any of the subpages in the Images section of the site and get the same results.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    You might try using CSS rollovers instead of MM (javascript) rollovers.  Straight HTML links load fast and work immediately.

  • Page load time differences between IE and Firefox

    Hello all,
    I have a problem with page loading time in IE 8. My page contains tabular form, classic report and some other items. I use some javascript code(placed in HTLM Header section) and also dynamic actions. When I try to display the page in IE I have to wait for 40 seconds (100 rows in tabular form). I realized that the performance is dependent on the number of displayed rows in the tabular form. But decrease the number of visible rows, using pagination, is not an option, because all needed rows should be visible for the users. During the tests I have tried to remove all the JS code and disable all the dynamic action, but the loading time was more or less the same.
    When I try to run the same page in FireFox then it is displayed in 4 seconds!
    I have already try to search some tips or advices how to speed up the page loading, but only what I have found out is, that every web browser is different. The javascript is handled differently, page rendering is done differently and so on.
    Maybe there is something what I have missed, and you experts can help me. Is there anything general what I should check or change to speed up the loading time in IE?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks Denes for your reply.
    I use HttpWatch tool to measure the loading times. Reports are mostly the same for IE and FF. I can see from the report, there is three times shown error 404 Not Found for the items below.
    http://......./images/sRegion-Body.png
    http://......./images/sRegion-Bottom.png
    http://......./images/sReportBG-Standard.png
    The last action which caused 404 error started 2 seconds after the page was asked to refresh. The next action http://......../i/libraries/jquery-ui/1.8.22/ui/i18n/oracle/jquery.ui.datepicker-cs.js started after 38 seconds (hanging in the same place for 36 seconds). Does it mean that the problem is caused by http://......./images/sReportBG-Standard.png action which returns 404 error?
    How can I add the missing images?

  • Want to prevent pictures from loading in order to speed up page loading.

    In order to minimize data usage and to speed up page loading, I can get by with text only. No pictures required.
    Any way to do this in a "global" way?

    You can disable images completely by setting permissions.default.image to 2 on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    Note that this can cause issues with buttons that are a background image.

  • IWeb Tiled Image Background Loads for Each Page

    My site Ostyn-Newman.com uses a black template.  I have an image that I tile for the background as well as for the browser background.  They are the same image. IWeb seems to do two things that make my site slow way down. IWeb
    1) Treats the browser background image and site background image as two images even though they are identical.  This makes for 2x the downloading necessary to fill the backgrounds.  The files are identical except for the file names.
    2) Creates image files for each page even though each page has identical browser and webpage backgrounds.  This means that on a 1000 page site, there are 2000 copies of the same image that could be reduced to 1 if they could be shared.  This would make for a much faster experience for our site viewers.
    Any ideas on how to make this happen?  I'm confounded.  I also have many small logos that I use dozens of time on the same page and IWeb creates a different image for each one.  You can see what I mean here  http://ostyn-newman.com/Gov_Fabrics.html  No big deal since each one is only a couple kb, but when you do that with 8 logos and each of those 8 is on a page 300 times, it starts to add up.  These examples are different but similar.  I'd love to figure out how to get IWeb to create and use common image resources.  I'm not html savvy, but I am fairly familiar with inserting snippets of code here and there via the Insert/Widget/HTML Snippet function to get done what I want to get done.  Thank you for the help.
    As an aside, I have explored creating a custom template using my image, but that has proved to be a bit more complex than I am capable of.  Is there a template that allows me to put my image in as the background?  That would take care of everything for me.

    Your Govt Fabrics and Leather page contains 1746 files that must be loaded for that page.
    It took me nearly 30 seconds to load your page entirely with Safari over a very fast internet connection. Firefox took about the same, maybe a few seconds quicker and Chrome 24 seconds.
    There seems to be 3 distinct sets of identifying images below the samples:
      , and
    To reduce the number of individual files to be loaded why not create 3 images, one with the 4 items, one with the 3 items, one with the 5 items and use them instead of using individual images under each sample.  That will greatly down on the number offiles needed to be loaded.
    Also using more than one page to display the samples would make each indivicual page load so much quicker than all on one page.
    These are just some food for thought.

  • Safari won't display a site correctly, sometimes page takes extended time to respond and partially loads other times images wont load

    So I have a friend who I've been trying to assist with this. I don't know if she has issues with other sites or she may not have encountered any yet, but one in particular is just not working. It started about a month ago around the time she moved (so different ISP/router etc.) though not entirely sure if it started right after that or if it was just coincidence. Anyways she cleared cookies/cache, no luck. I had her update and restart the computer, still not working. Disabled all extensions, still doesn't work. It can take upwards of 30-45 seconds to even respond in some cases, and when it does sometimes the page is all white with just text improperly formatted, but the background doesn't display at all, other times the background images and text are displaying correctly but the nearly all the user submitted images on the site (deviantart) will not display. I believe she mentioned it occasionally happened on tumblr as well.
    Other computers on her network are fine. I downloaded Firefox to see if it was a problem that persisted across browsers and indeed it did. So I went into the console on Firefox and looked at further information and it was returning Status Code 304 Not Modified which I looked up and that says it is telling the browser that the images should be loaded from cache. Problem with that is she shouldn't have any cache as its been cleared. I searched around this issue, found a suggestion saying to clear DNS cache, tried that and suddenly Firefox worked. I then logged into her username on DeviantArt through Firefox and suddenly the issues returned. I eventually was able to log out and things worked again. Now when I log into her account through Firefox it works fine. Safari still has issues.
    I've even deleted the cache.db file in the library/safari folder and quit/restarted Safari and still no success. I've tried disabling cache through the developer options. The status code 304 error made me believe that the reason the images weren't showing up is because there is no cache for those images but the server is telling the browser to use the cache so the images cannot load. One last thing I can mention is that on the console in Safari, it often just returns many errors for all the images on the site saying it didn't respond. One time there were errors saying something about the security certificate but I refreshed numerous times after that and that error never showed up again in the console. Anyone know what might be causing this?

    Start here >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
    If nothing helped from that link, try troubleshooting Safari plug-ins.
    From the Safari menu bar click Safai > Preferences then the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
    If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Web pages and/or images not loading

    This problem started a few weeks ago once every few days or so, then got more and ore frequent where now it is happening multiple times each day.
    I am using Safari 6.1 on an iMac running OS 10.7.5
    Random web pages (some way more than others) will not load when I go to them. Sometimes, the text of the pages will load, but no images. Sometimes the URL progress bar will go across about an inch and the screen will go to blank white (this is most often) and it will just sit there. If I leave it alone, usually the web page will finally load about 4-10 minutes later on its own.
    I have talked with my ISP and we have tried the following fixes, with no positive results:
    When the problem happens, I try pinging the website {using Network utilities) and it always pings just fine.
    When the problem happens, I run Traceroute (using Network utilities) and email him a screen shot of the results.
    I have changed my DNS numbers to OpenDNS, per his comments.
    I have removed the router and plugged in direct.
    I have replaced all my Cat5 cables with new Cat6 cables.
    While the problem is happening, he can ping me just fine from his end.
    When the problem happens, I open Firefox and go to the same site, and have the same blank results in Firefox.
    When the problem happens, I can open a new Safari window and go to other sites just fine.
    This morning, I had the same issues, so I left it to clear on its own. I then went to Outlook to check my email and I had two emails where the images would not load at all, just like the web pages. So I left it alone for over 20 minutes and still no loading. Then I quit Outlook, re-opened it and the images came in just fine. During that 20 minutes, the web pages loaded in Safari in the background.
    I found and read a discussion about this issue  (  https://discussions.apple.com/message/22125235#22125235  ) and per that conversation, I created a GUEST user account, closed out of my account and logged in as a GUEST. I then used Safari to browse the web ans while it was faster, eventually after about 30 minutes, I found a page that would not load (one of my usual suspect pages). I then sat back and let it go and after 5 minutes, the page loaded just fine.
    HELP!!!!!
    John

    Interesting side note . . .
    After writing this (above), I clicked on the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page and the screen went blank white and it sat there for more than five minutes, when it finally went through. SO, i had my problem occur while submitting my question about the problem!
    Awesome!

  • Want to block tracking for speed (page loading) more than privacy. Will it help? What are appropriate addons?

    When loading pages, new sites off of Google new for instance, I notice that the page takes a very long time to load while analytics load for google, facebook, advertisers, etc, in the bottom left of the screen. It seems to have gotten much much worse in the last couple of years. The pages load MUCH faster with javascript disabled. But too many other web functions require javascripting to leave it off permanently.
    Would a Firefox add-on help speed things up a bit by blocking tracking/analytics? Would it disrupt too much other content/service?
    Thanks.

    NoScript extension: <br />

    It is a royal pain to use until you get it setup for all your commonly visited website - there's a steep learning curve with NoScript, but I wouldn't surf without it.
    If you are not already blocking advertisements, you might want to consider AdblockPlus and a good filterset. <br />

    Also, read this: <br />

    I keep a default version of Firefox installed to refer to so I don't forget what the average user has to deal with, when I am doing "support". It really irks me when web page loading is delayed while waiting for a a slow "ad server" to decide which advertisement it is going to load for me for that web page visit.

  • Displaying default image on page load if actual image is not retrieved

    Hello All,
    In jsff i have something like below
    <af:image source="path/something.jpg" id="id_1" styleClass="displayingImage">
    but if the image is not present in the path then a red cross is displayed.
    Is there any way where i can display a default image on page load if image is not properly loaded.

    Approach 1
    If i bind "source" property to back bean and check it will work.
    But because of the complexity of project, it is not possible to go with this approach.
    Approach 2 (I am selecting this approach)
    (Working fine)
    When i click on image, the image is set to as default image
    <af:resource type="javascript">
    var changeImage = function (event) {
        $('.cssclass').each(function(){
            var image = $(this);
            $(image).hover(function(){
                    $(image).attr('src','/path/defaultImage.png');
    </af:resource>

                  rendered="#{!empty pageFlowScope.bean.imageName}">
         <af:clientListener method="changeImage" type="click" />
    </af:image>
    (Not Working fine)
    On page load
    <af:resource type="javascript">
    $(document).ready(function(){                        //on page load
          alert("Check");                                         //alert is displayed correctly
          $('.cssclass').each(function(){                         //search for all image with name "cssclass"

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you had an issue about the JQuery loading image.
    I think the issue is related to the browser. Did you use the IE 8?
    The hide() and show() method not work in IE 8.

    Hi,
    According to this documentation from MSDN about
    SharePoint Server 2010 capacity management: Software boundaries and limits:
    “In SharePoint Server 2010, there are certain limits that are by design and cannot be exceeded”, “The default values for these limits were defined by testing, and represent the known
    limitations of the product. Exceeding supported limits may cause unexpected results, significant decrease in performance, or other harmful effects”, “in most cases, operating at or near an established limit is not a best practice, as acceptable performance
    and reliability targets are best achieved when a farm’s design provides for a reasonable balance of limits values”.
    So it is not recommended to add many web parts into one page.
    If there is a special need to display many web parts in one page, it is recommended to reorganize the content to minimize the number of web parts in use and customization will
    be needed sometimes if the built-in web parts can’t meet the requirement.

  • Print.css: when does the page load images for this?

    I have a print.css for an image I don't want on screen, but
    instead only for printing (normally set to display:none, and set to
    display:block when printing). Works great, but this image is
    loaded in any case as far as I know. 2 questions:
    1.) Would an image referenced in print.css load only when
    printing/previewing?
    2.) If so, could a printable (by default, i.e,
    non-background) image be loaded here in some way?
    Thank you!

    I think so, but I'm not sure - so, I built a test page -
    http://www.murraytestsite.com/test-print.html
    It contains a single image that is display:none in the screen
    CSS, and
    display:block in the print CSS. Both YSlow and Safari's
    Activity window
    show the browser as fetching that image. Looks like the
    answer is *no* - it
    is fetched even when it is not displayed onscreen.
