Hi,
My report contains page N of M i want to test this in german so i went to View--> Preffereed view Locale--> german all text is changing to german but page N of M is changing; how to chnage it

you can use a formula on your header nstead of using the Page N of M special field...sorry if the German translation is off...

I can't check this the moment, but normally spelling correction is determined by the keyboard layout you are using, rather than the localization of the app. So you should be able to get german spelling correction even if Pages is running in English.

Shortcuts for previous/next page on german keyboard are unreliable

Hi there!
I'm struggeling with the previous/next page shortcut on my german MacBook Pro. When I open the "History" menu it says the command for "next page" is ⌘ + ] and "previous page" is ⌘ + [
But there are no such bracket keys on the german keyboard. To get those brackets I have to press Alt + 5 or Alt + 6. So I tried ⌘ + Leftarrow and ⌘ + Rightarrow, but those are kind of unreliable... Sometimes the arrow shortcuts work, sometimes they don't...
Is there any way to manually change the shortcut or is there an alternative shortcut hidden somewhere?

Downloaded in English but google page is in German?????

I have downloaded firefox three times. Each time I ask for English version, homepage is in English but google search page is always in German. I'm now getting switched off to the idea of Firefox, can you help before I switch back to another browser

Smart Quotes in German and English

I just upgraded from 10.4 with Office to 10.6 with iWork. So far I've enjoyed iWork. I switch often between writing documents in English and German (usually not switching language within the document) and can't figure out a more efficient way to get the German quote system to work when I type in German. I found the language setting in the Text Inspector in Pages, but when I start typing in German it still uses the English quoting system. Otherwise I have only found the option to set smart quotes as either "English" or „German" in System Preferences, with no more efficient way to toggle between the two. Using the Character Viewer seems like an awkward way to go about solving this problem. What am I missing here?

But I don't think that it's a soluce to the described problem.
When we want to use two languages in a given document, chaging the language used by the app is not a viable protocol. This is why I think that building a favourite page in the Character palette is a good soluce.
I asked several times Apple to offer a way to define on nthe fly thru a preference dialog the punctuation character which we want to use.
It seems that the feature is available in 10.6.2 but, it doesn't apply to the apps which I use daily.
I assume that the next iWork delivery will be able to take benefit of these new system features.

Change Dictionary from German to English

Hi there,
I've got a little problem. I use page to dictate my german text whish works ok. Now I need to enter some english text whish does not work.
Does anybody know how it works with the latest version.

Me09 is dictating the German text so it would have to be Maverick and probably Pages 5.

New Pages now able to include Cocoa spelling?

Dear folks,
I'm heavily using Pages in English as well as in German. Also for translation. Spelling is very helpful, but since Pages v1 the old German spelling rules have disappeared.
I know that it is possible to use more cocoa spellings in the system (text edit and mail), but with Pages v1 in the inspector the language choices have been hard wired. Does anybody know whether in pages v2 this menu has been changed?
This I need to know before I buy it...

Protector Suite suddenly with German messages on Tecra S5

Hi,
My Tecra S5 has not even smelt German air, but when modifying a different user account, the fingerprint software (Protector Suite 5.6.0) suddenly talks to me in German. All messages are in German, the InternetExplorer help page comes up in German and I have no idea why.
Can I set this somewhere? Why would Microsoft suddenly decide I need to be speaking German?

PS: as I have worked for a German company in the past, I installed the German language pack for Office 2007 so that I can spell check German docs, but that's all. Does this help or point in the wrong direction?

No, I have not tried that as I am a bit worried about the functionality of Word. I don't know if this can make my documents unusable.
So I'd like to have a solution rather than trying around with this.
And I don't understand why everything works and without me knowingly changing something, it should suddenly act up.

Cannot select text on a self-made pdf from scan

I have Reader 9.5.2 on a Mac G4 with OS 10.4.11.
I scanned a page of a C18 German book printed in the old Gothic script and converted the scan to pdf. So this is not a case of permissions in a pdf document received from someone else. I want to convert the font to a modern one by selecting the relevant part of the text and inserting it into a Word or a TextEdit document or by using the 'Save as...text' facility in Adobe Reader in order to export the text to Word. If I can get the text into Word or TextEdit, I can then change the font. But I cannot select any text, nor export the text. As I have said, this is not a matter of permissions in a document received from someone else; the pdf document was made from my own scan. If anyone can help, I should be most grateful; it would save a great deal of typing.

It seems logical that OCR for a family of typefaces (Gothic, Blackletter, Fraktur) that ceased to be used in most of Europe by the C18 or earlier, but was still used well into the C20 in Germany and Austria (it was still taught in the primary school in Vienna which I attended as a small boy before the war) would most likely only be available in Germany. I think it's going to be typing and not OCR for me!

Language dependent texts in BI

I have the following high level questions that we need answer as soon as possible, I would appreciate if anybody experienced in this area could give some high level asnwers as well as pointers to any relevant documenation.
1. If source system is in a non-english logon (eg: Japanes), wil we see Japanese text automatically thru extractors in BI or do we need to do any setup in BI for extracting the text in Japanese.
2. if source system is in non-english logon )eg: japanese), and we want english transation of the texts extracted, what do we need to do in BI.
3. Role of unicode in all of the language related activites.
Any help is appreciated.

To check if you have unicode system:
Log onto your BW system.
From the menu, go to System-->Status. A pop-up giving the system details will come up. There will be a section called SAP System Data. There is a field for Unicode system. If it reads "No", then you do not have a unicode system.
If so, this then means you are on a single code page, i.e. the default code page, which handles English & German by default and other latin script languages (only when the respective language packs have been installed). If your source has languages other than the ones above, you will have problems extracting data.
If you are non-unicode, and the language you are trying to pull data in is not English or German, then you will need to install the language pack (if it is handled by the default code page) or if the language is, say Russian, then you will need to install a code page that handles Cyrillic.
BI 7, as a fresh install is done in unicode, whereas you did not have this in earlier versions and a decision could be made whether to go unicode or nonunicode.

ToolBoxTools.addEventListener only works every second time

Hi!
Our layouts pretty often click on the "page tool" by mistake and it happened a few times, that they changes the size of the page without even noticing. Because there is no way to remove the tool from the toolbar (I guess?), I wanted to write a script, that at least shows a message, that the page tool ("Seitenwerkzeug" in german) was selected. Unfortunately the event listener only works every second time:
1. indesign starts > selection tool is active
2. click on page tool > message appears > page tool is active
3. click on "another tool1" > "another tool1" is active
4. click on "another tool2" > "another tool1" is active
5. click on page tool > nothing happens, the icon of the page tool is active, but the icon of the "another tool2" is still active, too, and "another tool2" is still activated
6. click on "another tool3" > "another tool3" is active
7. click on page tool > message appears > page tool is active
8. ......
Any idea why that is?

At the beginning I tried to use an confirm message instead of an alert, which had the same problem and I thought it might be because the changing doesn't work... but it seems I can't even work with the information without something "crashing" in the background?

Hi Anke,
The problem, I think, comes from the fact that the Page Tool selection event (which you listen to via afterAttributeChanged) needs some time to complete. Since the alert() or confirm() instruction gives the focus to a new modal window before the event life-cycle is finished, the GUI becomes instable, the PageTool icon state is not properly restored, and your event management goes wrong.
A way to solve this might be to queue a temporary IdleEvent listener once the Page Tool selection event is caught. That is, we do not initiate any modal dialog as long as the GUI is refreshing.
Something like this:

How to handle Quotation marks?

I've got a problem with "Pages". As a German user I'd like to use German quotation marks, those that open low and close high. At the moment I can use only English quotation marks, opening and closing high. How can I fix this specific problem so that the quotation marks open low and close high automatically.

I'm not sure about an error.
It seems that the cmd-key causes the keys shown in Keyboard Viewer not to work. As you mentioned, cmd is used for - commands. I switched to Swiss layout and tried several combos with cmd: shift-alt-cmd-w just beeps, shift-alt-cmd-q should result in but logged me off (shift-cmd-q!). So, I think Keyboard Viewer isn't reliable on key combos with cmd.
Thus, I think the easiest way is to use my workaround. Keep in mind, once you've set up German and Swiss layouts to be accessible via menu, it's quite easy to switch between them.
Hmm, I see, my above posting isn't very clear. The steps described behind the bullets need only to be made one time. Then you just need to click on the flag to change to another layout.
How would you make a custom (Swiss) layout?

Language setting

Hi,
I'm using english as the main system language, but I'd like to create iWeb pages in german. There is some text I can't change or at least have them changed overtime I create a new site. Those are e.g. "subscribe", "Play Slideshow" etc.
How can I change this behaviour?

Open iWeb and any new page will be in German.
Close iWeb and change the language back to English.
Works with every language on your machine.

Extracting language dependent data

Hello,
I am trying to extract master data which is language dependent ( not master data--> texts ).
My datasource has id, language, field1, field2. My master data infoobject id has field1 and field2 as attributes.
I first tried adding language also as an attribute of id. Only one record was extracted.
I then compounded id with language. Even then only one record was extracted.
The extractor checker (rsa3) however shows the correct extraction.
Please help.
