Page won't center on background image

I am having some trouble centering my page on a background image.  Here is my CSS for my body.  I thought the left and right margins set to auto should center the page.  The site can be found at http://www.findlaypopcorn.com the CSS is in index.css ( attached)
body {      background-color: #ffffff;      margin-left:auto;      margin-right:auto;      width:796px;      padding:0px;      background-image: url(images/kernelsunpopped.JPG);      background-repeat: no-repeat;      background-attachment: fixed; } Please help

It is centered for me in Chrome, Firefox and IE 7 on Vista.
What browser/OS do you not see it centered for?

  • How do you center a background image?

    I've been trying to center my background image but am unable
    to do it. I've resorted to trying to center the image instead
    because I couldn't figure how to stretch a background image to be
    viewable on a browser without a repeating image. Can someone
    explain how to center a background image and/or stretch a

    body { background-position:center; }
    Maybe?
    Background images don't stretch.

  • How do I center my background image and get a round border radius?

    <!--I thought I had pretty straight forward CSS, but the image is way to the top and I can't create a border radius. Below is my CSS-->
    body {
      background-color: rgba(30,30,30,1);
      background-image: url('images/me_atsunsetbackground1.JPG');
      background-repeat: no-repeat;
      background-position: center;
      background-border-radius: 100%;
      position: fixed;
      margin-top: 250px;

    That doesn't surprise me, that code wasn't meant to be a direct replacement for yours, it's just there to illustrate an idea for Nancy.
    The <body> tag itself should not be changed in that manner because the <body> holds ALL of your site's visual elements. If you were to change the <body> in the way you are attempting (which isn't possible), everything in your site would need to be within that oval.
    If you just want an oval background image on the <body>, turn the image itself into an oval in Photoshop and outside the oval, either use the same color as the <body> background-color, or leave it transparent and save it as a .png with transparency.
    Your inset shadow css is badly malformed...
    1. The attribute "shadow" doesn't exist. You're looking for CSS3 box-shadow.
    2. Safari and DW need the -webkit- prefix to display it (again, you need to test in more than one browser)
    3. The settings need to be in the correct order: h-shadow, v-shadow, blur, spread, inset (something like box-shadow:10px 10px 5px 5px rgba(255, 255, 255, .5) inset;
    Keep in mind, css3 settings (like rgba color settings and box-shadow in its entirety) don't work in IE8 and lower at all, and are pretty spotty in IE9.

  • When I try to print, I get one page with a header and the background image, another page with the content, and a third page with a footer and background image. How can I make it print properly?

    Also, if I print to a .pdf, the background does not show up even if I have the checkbox checked to print background image.
    The site I'm trying to print is:

    I did not have the HP printer software for Mac OSX installed properly. Once installed the problem went away.

  • Page won't center when pringing

    hey there!
    i'm using CS4 on an imac.
    i've got a canon pro9000 printer and a smaller canon printer.
    just recently...
    when i print a page with indesign, everything is shoved over to the right.
    it happens on both printers.
    BUT...
    i've sent the same file from my wife's computer to the smaller canon printer
    and it's centered fine.
    but from my computer i can't get it to center.
    it'll center just fine if i print from adobe reader.
    but not from indesign.
    i've tried all the obvious things in print set-up and such.
    i've checked to see if there are differences in the set-up between my computer and the my wife's.
    there aren't any that i see.
    i'm straight up baffled.
    does anyone have any ideas?
    thanks thanks thanks!
    mr. warburton

    yup!
    i'm printing from indesign on my wife's computer.
    and the page is centered.
    it is not centered on mine when i print from indesign.
    but it is when i print from adobe reader.
    therefore it's gotta be some setting on indesign in my computer.
    right?

  • Start Disk Full MBP won't load beyond background image

    Hello! My start disk was warning me it was approaching 'full' so I went out & bought an external hard drive.. backed up one user (primary) on the hard drive, then logged out so I could log in as the other user to back up that side of the computer's data, & when I logged in there all that loaded was a purple background (not my normal background) No access to any icons, applications, data, magnifying glass, etc.. nothing loaded basically. So I tried to log back in as the original user & ran into the exact same probelm, except from here I can access A SINGLE window of Safari.. it automatically loads just the Safari bar at the top & I can browse the internet still.. but cannot open any content such as youtube or download of course, also cannot open any other applications though it will open garage band's bar, just no files..
    I would like to know what I need to do to be able to get in to either profile so I can delete at least enough files or get my computer to at least let me back up that other user so I can do whatever you recommend I need to to get my computer working again. Thanks!

    After that, check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down the c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menubar > select Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side (the name of the HD’s manufacturer and the model number, usually the top item in the list) > look at the bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” (good) or something more ominous like “Failing.”
    If S.M.A.R.T. status is "Verified," run Repair Disk > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen,you may need a stronger utility (such as DriveGenius, TechToolPro, DiskWarrior) or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD which will need to be replaced (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

  • Creating business cards in Pages with background image

    I am trying to use the Pages business card template and background image function of pages to create a business card that has an image on every business card on the sheet. I can't seem to find out how to do that. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Here is the basic method of having white text on a colored background: Insert a shape. While selected go to the Graphic Inspector and select a Fill color. Re-proportion the shape as needed. Insert a text box (or boxes) and type your text. Drag it (them) over the shape and change the color of the text to white (or any other color you desire). Select all and group. Duplicate as needed. Apply this procedure to your business cards or anywhere else.
    Another method for applying a colored background to a text box: select the text box and Fill it from the Graphics Inspector and adjust the Inset Margin in the Text Inspector.

  • Color or background image of a page

    Hi all.
    We want to have multiple pages with different color or background image in our portal.
    Via the theme editor it is possible to assign either a color or an image on the background of the portal body but that only gives us one look to choose from.
    We have tried creating our own page layout with a specific background image but it does not work through the portal (it works fine doing a preview of the page though).
    Has any of you had the same challenge wanting different backgrounds on the portal pages and found a usable solution?
    PS!
    Portal version is EP6 NW04 SP12.
    Thanks in advance.

    I think what you want is a nice clean strip that runs the width of the page that you can place tabs on top of. To give it a really professional look. We wanted the same effect but there is no easy way. I ended up making a background image for the page with a small stripe about an 1" from the top of the page that ran the width of the page. Then when the page is rendered, the tabs appear on top of the strip. That was our workaround.

  • Export to web page, background image option gone?

    Apologies if this has been addressed (couldn't get the right boolean search terms to work properly) as it is a simple question.
    Upgraded to iphoto '08 and now one of my favorite features in the 'export a web page' area doesn't appear to exist anymore - the option to use a background image instead of a color.
    Has this 'feature' been removed? It's easy to stick the line into the html code, but what I value is the fact that it (used to) modify each photo's html page, sticking that line in, which wouldn't be feasible for me to do manually.
    Thanks,

    Many thanks for pointing that out. In Composer I have been able to remove the path to my hard drive stored image. What shows now on page source is: <body style="background-image: url(cloudback800x600.jpg);"> but the image
    is still not visible. Your further advice will be appreciated.

  • Centering Background Image

    Is there a way to center the background image that is set

    Or you could do what Murray just said :-) But through

  • Body background image not displaying in IE6

    I've looked at lots of questions about background image problems in IE6 but didn't see an answer to this one. I have a horizontal stripe on the page that's made of a background image in the <body> tag. The home page has a different size stripe than the subpages, so on the subpages I'm using a class style to call the background image.
    The home page body style looks like this:
    body {
        margin: 0;
        padding:0;
        text-align: center;
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    And the subpages use this class style:
    .subpage {
        margin: 0;
        padding:0;
        text-align: center;
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner_sub.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    It works in all browsers except IE6, which loads the background image on the home page but not the subpages. So I suspect it's the class style it doesn't like. Is there an IE6 fix that will get it to work correctly?
    Here's the url of a subpage.
    Thanks,
    R-Co

    Well, both fixes still don't seem to work in IE6. And for some reason, the embedded style in the home page doesn't work at all. Here's the CSS for the method using different class styles for home and subpages:
    body {
        margin: 0;
        padding:0;
        text-align: center;
    .bodyhome {
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    .subpage {
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner_sub.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    Here's a screen shot from Browser Lab showing what it looks like in IE6.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks again,
    R-Co

  • How do they get background image to span browser width?

    At http://www.archerschoicemedia.com, they have a background image at the top that spans the entire browser width. How is that achieved? What if image isn't as wide as screen resolution, won't it just repeat?
    All help with adding a background image that does this - spans the entire browser width - is what I'm after.
    Thanks!

    What if image isn't as wide as screen resolution, won't it just repeat?
    No.
    The CSS reads
    body {
    font: 100% Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
            background:url(../i/backgroundvid.jpg);
            background-position:center top;
            background-repeat:no-repeat;
            background-color:#000000;
    margin: 0; /* it's good practice to zero the margin and padding of the body element to account for differing browser defaults */
    padding: 0;
    text-align: center; /* this centers the container in IE 5* browsers. The text is then set to the left aligned default in the #container selector */
    overflow-x: hidden;
    overflow-y: auto;
    So, the CSS is set to horizontally center the background image and not repeat it.
    Plus, on screens wider than 1689px wide, the background color of black (#000000) shows through at the edges creating the impression that the background is endless.

  • How do I remove background images from a PDF?  Using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard.

    I have a file I need to print off, but the document is 100 pages lond and each page as a very obnoxious background image that makes it difficult to read the content, and I really don't want to waste the ink.
    I have tried a few things with no luck:
    -Tried replacing document background color in the 'Accessibility' tab in preferences.
    -Tried unchecking the 'Display large images' field in the 'Page Display' tab in preference - this leaves a dark gray background that I can't get rid of, which is almost as bad as the original image.
    -Tried several combinations under the 'Color Management' tab in preference to lessen the gray background achieved from the previous step.  I can only brighten the shade slighty, but there is still a fair amount of gray background.
    I just want a white background, or a clear background, and I have not seen any article or help topic on how to accomplish this.  Please help!
    Mike

    You might want to see if you can select the background with the object touchup tool. If so, can you then just delete the selected object. May take a while to go through the document, but if it solves the problem you are ahead. You may be able to select it with JavaScript and repeat the process. My point of using the object touchup tool is that it may not be a background set by Acrobat, but something that is simply labeled as an image from the Acrobat viewpoint.
