Pages creates archived folders on desktop

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out a bizarre quirk Pages has on my machine. Every single time I save a document, it creates an archived folder on my desktop (or wherever I save to) which is immediately unzipped by stuffit expander. It's very annoying. Working on a single document will fill my desktop with these useless folders quickly... as one is created every time I save. The folders are always named "documentname.pages.folder" and then "documentname.pages.folder1, 2, 3..." etc as it continues to create them.
Anyone know what is going on here or how to stop it?
Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Ryan

  • Cannot create new folders on desktop. Cannot drag new items onto desktop. Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal. Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas. Thank you.

    I can no longer create new folders on my desktop. The option to do that is now light gray on the drop down menu and can't be selected.
    I cannot drag new items onto desktop any longer either.
    The Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal.
    Folders and items on Desktop open and work normally.
    Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas.
    Thank you.

    Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
    Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or rebooting. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
    Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder  or something else, such as Anything.
    If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
    If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the  Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo Desktop
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”). Quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder.
    If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
    Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

  • HT3384 In order to keep my files organized, I need to create separate "folders".  For some reason, I cannot find the instructions on how to create a folder in Pages.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    In order to keep each family members' documents organized, I need to create separate "folders".  I've seared the help section but to no avail.  I'm sure this is very easy for someone out there.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thank you.

    You can't created a folder in Pages. Here's what Help says about new folders:
    To create a folder:
    Click the desktop (the background area of your screen) if you want to keep the new folder on the desktop; otherwise, open the window where you want to keep the folder.
    Choose File > New Folder.
    If the New Folder command is dimmed, you do not have permission to create a folder at the current location.
    To give the folder a new name, click to select it and press Return. Then type a name for the folder and press Return again.

  • Create Archive with Automator without folders in path

    I am using Automator to create an Archive.
    Using "Get Specified Finder Items" to get
    NAME                                       PATH
    a.jar                                          Macintosh HD -> Builda -> a.jar
    b.jar                                          Macintosh HD -> Buildb -> b.jar
    Then using "Create Archive"
    Save as "c"
    Where:  'D'
    In folder 'D' there is a zip file 'c.zip'
    In 'c.zip'  there are 2 folders:
    Folder 'Builda' which contains a.jar
    Folder 'Buildb' which contains b.jar
    I don't want the Folders.
    I want just 'c.zip' containing 'a.jar and 'b.jar'
    Can anyone help?

  • How to use "create archive" on a list of folders to make separate archives?

    I have a folder of folders that I want to archive, but I don't want to create a big archive of the entire folder. I want to create archives of each folder underneath the top folder (each folder is a separate book). When I try to get the list of folders that I want to archive, and then archive them, it insists on making one large folder containing everything. Isn't there a way to make it loop over the folder results and archive each one individually?

    No loops in Automator yet... though the variable function in Leopard may allow them.
    Until then, you can use an AppleScript for that step. Post a question in the AppleScript forum if you need assistance writing the script.

  • Bridge creates unwanted folders on my desktop.

    I recently upgraded to OSX Lion.
    Ever since then each time I open Bridge (CS5) it creates 4 folders on my desktop.
    'data', 256, 1024, and 'full'.
    Can anyone tell me where to stop this from occuring. Just can't seem to locate anything in preferences.
    Help. It's driving me nuts.

    'data', 256, 1024, and 'full'.
    Those are the 4 folders that contain your preview and thumbnail cache. By default they should reside in the user library in your user account. The path would be: ~(user)/library/caches/Adobe/Bridge CS5/cache
    Also by default the user library in OSX7 is hidden, do a Google search on how to reveal the library.
    And check your Bridge Preferences Cache section. Inhere you can choose the location, you probably changed this to your Desktop? and this is not a good place for it. The cache can grow to huge proportions according to the amount of files, file size and 100% view you use.

  • When saving a File OS Is Creating Multiple Folders With The Same File Name

    Not sure what I changed but, now when I save a any file (ppt. word, Keynote,Pages e.g.,) to the desktop or any other location the OS will also create multiple file folders with the same file name as the file I'm saving. Inside the folders are what appears to be files locating the saved files. What can I do to fix this problem?
    I'm using the 10.7.2 version
    MacBook Pro

    It looks like a finder bug. To replicate, I surf to any website, I right-click on a jpg image, select "Save Image As" and in the window that pops up I type in the filename "000.jpg", I select the folder Pictures, and click on Save.
    BTW, I don't know why, but the file was saved only as "000" without the file extension ".jpg". Does anybody know why?
    the extension is simply hidden. go to the get info panel for the file and uncheck the option to hide the extension.
    Then I surf to another image, and again I save it as "000.jpg" and now it asks me if I want to replace the existing filename, although the existing one is "000" and I try to save as "000.jpg", so I say yes, and then magically the file is saved with the full filename including the extension "000.jpg"
    When I did it a couple of times, always saving image as "000.jpg" from various sources, I ended up with two distinct files named "000" and both in the same folder Pictures.
    Please advise.
    it sounds to me like you saved one file as 000.jpg and the other and 000.jpg.jpg.
    check the info panels for the files for full names to verify if this is the case.

  • How to create new folders on iCloud Drive from iOS or with document picker?

    Recently I wanted to share several files from my iWorks suite with my colleagues. I do not want them to edit these files, instead I made templates in Numbers for easier management of hours worked. Everyone could download their copy and keep a track of their hours themselves. The problem is, not everyone has an Apple product.
    Unfortunately, iOS does not support native browsing of iCloud Drive (except the document picker, which, to me, isn't helpful at all), the only way I know of - to create a new folder - is to open iCloud.com in Safari, request the desktop site and make a new folder from there.
    Is there another way of creating new folders, preferably an official app from Apple or from within an iWorks app or the document picker that I do not know of? Or is this actually a missing feature?
    Also, if Apple could make an app similar to Microsoft OneDrive, that would be great.

    Yes, there is a way. Here is the workaround. You can add notes folders directly with your iPad or iPhone.

  • I have a new ipad and want to create files for my documents I brought over from my Mac. How do I create file folders?

    I would like to create file folders for my documents I brought over to my ipad from my desktop Mac. I downloaded pages and neu.annotate. My files synced without a problem. PDF articles I put in neu.annotate and pages documents into pages but I would like to organize into folders like on my desktop. How can I do this on the ipad3?

    Unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system and everything on it has to be stored/associated within an app, you can't have separate folders of documents/files on your iPad's homescreens. If the apps that you have support it then you could possibly use Dropbox to store your documents within a folder structure, but you'd then need internet access in order to access them.

  • Help! My computer does not allow me to create new folders

    My computer just recently started not letting me create new folders. I do not have Google Chrome. I have Windows XP and have not had any trouble until this point in time. The New Folder option is not even listed when I right-click on the desktop and does not respond when clicked in another folder. I have Norton Security, but it might be a virus...I have no idea what it could be and why it is doing this now. I need help.

    Hello Nicole82,
    I see that you are having an issue with the creating a new folder option on your computer. This is a weird issue but I have a couple of suggestions that could help.
    I would like you to click the start menu and type "desktop" in the search bar under all programs.  Select the program desktop and when the page opens there should be a "new folder" option at the top of the screen. Click that option and create a folder. Then go to the desktop and right click and see if you have the option to create new folders.

  • Applescript for creating job folders

    having trouble with an applescript. I'm trying to create an applescript that will create a job folder for me with job number and job name in which I can include folders and subfolders.
    I found this script by searching google and it's pretty much what I need (thank you to who ever might have created it). I altered the folder names to what I need, and it seems to work for the most part but throws an error at the end that says : Finder got an error: Can't make "drive:path" into type item
    however it still makes everything i need. I would just like to get rid of the error.
    the script editor highlights the line of text that's having issues for me, but since i barely knew what I was doing in the first place I don't know how or what to change.
    if someone could help me that would be great. here is the code.
    set thepath to {"drive:path"}
    set JobName to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Name:" default answer "Job Name")
    set incomingDate to (current date)
    set numYear to year of incomingDate as number
    set textYear to text -2 through -1 of (numYear as string)
    set JobNum to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Number:" default answer {textYear & "xxx"})
    set JobNumName to JobNum & "_" & JobName
    set newsublist to {{"Builds", {"versions"}}, {"Links"}, {"Fonts"}, {"Proofs"}}
    tell application "Finder"
    set baseFolder to make new folder with properties {name:JobNumName}
    repeat with i from 1 to count newsublist
    try
    set {tier2, t2Subs} to {item 1, item 2's items} of item i of newsublist
    set tier2Folder to make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:(tier2)}
    repeat with tier3 in t2Subs
    make new folder at tier2Folder with properties {name:(tier3)}
    end repeat
    on error
    make new folder at baseFolder with properties {name:(item 1 of item i of newsublist)}
    end try
    end repeat
    activate
    open thepath
    end tell

    There are a few differences with Leopard that still get me from time to time. Tiger's AppleScript doesn't like path to desktop, so instead use the statement:
    set ThePath to (get path to desktop folder)
    The other thing I hadn't noticed before is if there is an error, the script just stops instead of throwing up a dialog. If you are doing something like using an illegal file name or trying to create a folder in a location that you don't have permissions, then unless the MakeFolderStructure statement is in a try statement it will fail silently. Adding an error display will at least tell you if there is an error, so a script that works in Tiger (as well as Leopard) is:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px; height: 340px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFDDFF;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    -- make a folder structure at the currently selected Finder item
    tell application "Finder" to try -- get the current selection
    set ThePath to the first item of (get selection)
    if the last character of (ThePath as text) is not ":" then -- a file
    set ThePath to the container of ThePath
    end if
    on error -- default to the desktop
    set ThePath to (get path to desktop folder)
    end try
    set JobName to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Name:" default answer "Job Name")
    set textYear to text -2 through -1 of ((current date)'s year as text)
    set JobNum to text returned of (display dialog "Please enter Job Number:" default answer {textYear & "xxx"})
    set JobNumName to JobNum & "_" & JobName
    try
    MakeFolderStructure out of {JobNumName, {"Builds", {"versions"}, "Links", "Fonts", "Proofs"}} at ThePath
    on error ErrorMessage number ErrorNumber -- oops
    activate me
    display alert "Error " & ErrorNumber message ErrorMessage
    end try
    to MakeFolderStructure out of SomeItem at SomeFolder
    make the folder structure defined in SomeItem at SomeFolder
    SomeList defines the structure:
    nested list items create folders in the previous text item - {"A", {"B", {"C"}}} = /A/B/C
    empty text items will create untitled folders
    parameters - SomeItem [mixed]: the folder structure
    SomeFolder [alias]: the destination folder
    returns nothing
    set ParentFolder to SomeFolder
    if class of SomeItem is list then
    repeat with AnItem in SomeItem
    if class of AnItem is list then -- add subfolder(s)
    MakeFolderStructure out of AnItem at SomeFolder
    else -- add a new child folder at the current parent
    tell application "Finder" to make new folder at ParentFolder with properties {name:AnItem}
    set SomeFolder to the result as alias
    end if
    end repeat

  • How do i upload Pages documents and folders to iCloud and make sure they sync on all my devices?

    Hi,
    I'm new to iCloud and don't really know how to use it yet.  I have a desktop Mac, a Macbook Pro laptop and an iPad.  Currently all my Pages documents are on my desktop computer.  I would like to upload them to iCloud and then have it set so that they automatically sync and I can access them on all my devices.  I want to make sure I always have the most up to date version of a document when I open it on any device, without having to update manually.  Can anyone tell me please how I do this?  Can I keep them in folders (there are a lot of documents!).
    Also, because I just upgraded Pages and was previously using Pages 09 it keeps asking me each time I open a document if I want to upgrade it to the current Pages.  Can I somehow set this as default now so I won't keep having to say yes?
    Thanks for any help!

    To use icloud,  enable it (using the same Apple ID) on all your devices. If you move a document that already exists to iCloud, it will automatically be available to all your devices. Ditto on new doc: if you save it to icloud when you name it, it will automatically be available to all your devices.  If you make a change on one device, you'll be prompted on other devices to pick the one you want to keep,
    One BIG proviso: pages 5.1, and Pages for icloud,  are VERY BUGGY. Users here complain of corrupted files, lost data, the program hanging, etc. DO NOT user them for anything you care about.
    Also, Pages 5.1, as exhaustively documented here, is a pale shadow of Pages 4.3. Nearly a hundred features present in 4.3 are not present in Pages 5.1, including such basic things as mail merge, bookmarks, meaningful Applescript and Services support. You cannot even set the default zoom, reliably export documents with links to a PDF, or view comments while editing (nor can you print comments).  It is useless for page layout since you can no longer view a page spread, nor set alernating left/right margins and headers and footers.  A lot of advance typographical support has gone missing, too. Non contgious text selection? Gone. How many pages in your document?  You have to dig down in the little "word count" bubble (after turning it on) to find out. Why?  As an early review put it, Pages 5 is an "unmitigated disaster."
    To stop being promted to update, go to system preferences and uncheck "automatically check for updates."

  • Aim to process all files in folders on desktop to run through photoshop and save in multiple locations

    Aim to process all files in folders on desktop to run through photoshop and save in multiple locations
    Part one:-
    Gather information from desktop to get brand names and week numbers from the folders
    Excluding folders on desktop beginning with "2" or "Hot"
    Not sure about the list of folders
    but I have got this bit to work with
    set folderPath to "Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Desktop:DIVA_WK30_PSD" --<<this would be gained from the items on the desktop
    set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ":"}
    set folderName to last text item of folderPath
    set my text item delimiters to "_WK"
    set FolderEndName to last text item of folderName
    set brandName to first text item of folderName
    set my text item delimiters to "_PSD"
    set weekNumber to first text item of FolderEndName
    set my text item delimiters to oldTID
    After running this I have enough information to create folders in multiple locations, (i need to know where they are so that photoshop can later save them in those multiple locations
    So I need the following folders created
    Locally
    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber
    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName
    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName: brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR" --(Set path for Later)PathA
    Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName: brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_HR"--(Set path for Later)PathB
    Network
    Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"Week" + weekNumber
    Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"Week" + weekNumber:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR"  --(Set path for Later)PathC
    Volumes:GEN:Website_Images --(no need to create folder just set path)PathD
    FTP (Still as a normal Volume) So like another Network
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR"  --(Set path for Later)PathE
    Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_HR"  --(Set path for Later)PathF
    I like to think that is end of Part 1
    Part 2
    Take the images  (PSD's) from those folders relevant to the Brand then possibly run more applescript that opens flattens and then saves it in the locations above.
    For example….
    An image in folder DIVA_WK30_PSD will then run an applescript in Photoshop, lets call it DivaProcessImages within this we then save to PathA, PathB, PathC, PathD, PathE, PathF the folder path of C should therefore look like this
    Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:Week30:DIVA_WK30_LR and of course save the image as original filename.
    Then from the next folder
    An image in folder Free_WK30_PSD will then run an applescript in Photoshop, lets call it FreeProcessImages within this we then save to PathA, PathB, PathC, PathD, PathE, PathF the folder path of C should therefore look like this
    Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:Week30:Free_WK30_LR and of course save the image as original filename.
    The photoshop applescript i'm hoping will be easier as it should be a clearer step by step process without any if's and but's
    Now for the coffee!!

    Now to the other part, where each folder was created (and those that already existed) how do I set them as varibles?

  • How do I create new folders in my mail?

    How do I create new folders to divide and save my mail into catergories?

    Hi Tina
    Two ways to do this:
    1 in Mail, go the tool bar at the top of the screen, select Mailbox, then select New Mailbox in the menu.
    2 in Mail, go the lefthand column, and at the bottom left you should see a plus sign and a cogwheel icon. Click on the plus sign and a new, untitled, mailbox will appear in the column above. Name this as you like.
    You can "nest" mailboxes inside other mailboxes (eg inside a box I called "personal" I have individual mailboxes for each of my family and friends).
    Then simply drag messages from your inbox to the appropriate mailbox in the lefthand column when you want to archive them.
    Hope this helps!
