Pages' speeding and cooperation

I am designing a program book for the organization. When I pulled the photo from other file into the blank document. I reduced the photo size, but that reaction shows a 5 to 8 seconds delay to be results. Why can't it be same time to adjust size with the cursor? Does it have something to do with this Macbook Pro's memory speeding or something that need improve to be able control how to design the photos?

Nope, enabling Printer Sharing just opens the Printing ports in the firewall locally.

  • Firefox won't open after i downloaded a Page Speed browser add-on

I went to Google Webmaster Central. To check my site performance it asked me to :
Install the Page Speed browser add-on
Use Page Speed to evaluate the performance of your pages and get suggestions on how to improve them. Learn more
    Install Page Speed
    Install while using Firefox
The "Install Page Speed" being https://dl-ssl.google.com/page-speed/current/page-speed.xpi
It then asked me to restart firefox. I said ok and firefox switched off but never started again. It won't open when i try to start it again.
I have a lot of saved bookmarks and don't want to loose them. Will this happen if i uninstall and reload firefox or is there a way to get this version working again.

Try opening Firefox in [[safe mode]], whilst in safe mode you can access the add-ons manager and uninstall the Page Speed Browser extension. Hopefully this will resolve your problem.

  • Fed up with speed and connection issues since exch...

Last Monday BT done some upgrade work at our local exchange.  From that point onwards we have had speed and connection issues.
I use a Belkin G Router rather that the Homehub some that we can run a printer through it and that is plugged in to telephone socket via an extension.  But before we blame any of that we have gone back to the Homehub2 so we could see the difference and there is very little.
We live in the countrside so broadband speeds are not great in any case.  About 1.8 mg I guess but we have always had no problems.  It was good enough for us and we could watch Iplayer.
I was getting fed up with drop outs and speed and yestereday an Openreach guy came out tested everything could not find any problems apart from speed.  He made some calls and was told our band width had been capped.  He had that removed and yesterday evening speed was a bit better.
    Today just as bad again.
    Details from router:

    Hi Welcome to the forums
Your high noise margin  will have a major impact  on your speed
If you post the full stats from your router
For homehub – type 192.168.1.254 into your browser
Navigate to ADSL Settings or use the A-Z at the top right of the home page and scroll down to ADSL Settings and click on it
Click on More Details and then post the full results.
also post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397

  • SEO Page Speed insights (Google)

    Hi All,
    Disclaimer: I'm not a coder.
I'm aware the Muse team are always imporving SEO compatability for the code output from Muse.
Recently Google have made availible various development tools to let us admins test our site's performances in relation to Google rankings and search optimisation.
I've been experimenting with these tools on a Muse site I have made in the last 6 months and it returns several errors, which have JS script issues, HTML issues - Particually on mobile.
    Links to tools:
    https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/about
Page Speed insights tool seems to not regconise the Mobile Optimised layout of the Muse site, but instead shows a preview of the desktop version, even though when navigated to on a mobile device, the mobile optimised layout loads fine. URL: www.larasclinic.com (Built & published last with MUSE 6.0)
The tool returns several errors with sugestions on fixes, some of which seem to code fixes. Here's an example:
    - Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 1 blocking script resources and 3 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
    http://www.larasclinic.com/css/site_global.css?96667304
    http://www.larasclinic.com/css/master_a-master.css?427926077
    http://www.larasclinic.com/css/index.css?3883076921
So my questions to the team is...
    Q. How many of these fixes as a Muse user can I do myself to insure the site is as SEO strong as possible, avoiding these Google testing errors?
And what features are coming to Muse to optimise the code output and SEO in the future?
I've seen all the recent tutorials on SEO, but it would be good to see a more in-depth, Google Search Ranking related one and how to optimise Muse websites.
    All answers appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Robbie.

Page Speed is a tool for measuring factors that contribute to the page load performance of a web page. It actually has nothing to do with Search Engine Optimization or your ranking in Google.
If your concern is page load times, there are many different useful tools available. However, in most cases big changes in page load performance come from reducing the amount of content on a page and ensuring all images are being properly sized and encoded (the latter being something Muse mostly takes care of for you), and not the level sort of changes recommended by PageSpeed. In many cases PageSpeed will list a page of changes where many or most are valid, but the investment to make them all would be large and the net gain in page load performance would be very small relative to other sorts of changes that could/should be made.
For SEO (from a very simplified view) there are two primary factors that contribute to where your page ranks within Google. The first is how well the content of your page(s) correlate to the specific search phrase someone entered in Google. And the second is how "popular" your site is, measured primarily by how many other sites/sources contain links to your pages relative to the popularity of other sites that had a similar correlation to the search phrase.
A 60-second course on SEO is:
    1) Pick ~3 search phrases you want to optimize for. Then work to have those phrases and the words in those phrases appear regularly in the content of your pages, paying special attention to .html file names, image file names, headings (marked with h1, h2, etc. tags), page titles, your domain name, image alt text, the text content of the actual pages, etc.
    2) Leverage Twitter, Facebook, Blogs in your industry, etc. to generate interest in your site and thus generate links back to your site.
    3) Submit your sitemap.xml to Google using Google's Webmaster Tools so they're aware of your site and more likely to re-index it sooner rather than later.
There's tons more to SEO, but that's a start. PageSpeed isn't where you want to be if your goal is to improve SEO.

  • Ethernet speed and duplex configuration in IP Phone

    Hi
We need to disable ethernet auto-negotiation in about 1000 IP Phones, because many PCs that will be connected to them fail to properly auto-negotiate (old ethernet cards).  We will configure them as 100Mbps/Full Duplex.
The problem: We don´t find any related place to configure this in CUCM Web Admin, so we just use the settings interface in the phone itself.  That isn´t scalable to 1000 phones.
Does any one know some place in web admin to set speed and duplex in phones?? or maybe some 3rd party software??
    Thanks and regards
    Cristian Jara

The setting on the device configuration page I think you're looking for is called "Switch Port Remote Configuration", default is disabled, other options are Auto / 10 Half / 10 Full / 100 Half / 100 Full / 1000 Full.  If this is what you're looking for the Bulk Administration Tool (BAT) can be used to change this in bulk on all your phones.

  • 70% drop in speed and constant dropped connection

Been on Infinity2 since October, BT's estimate for my line is 58 to 76mbs as im 300m from the Penistone, Sheffield Road exchange. Up until Xmas i was getting 74-75mbs d/l and 17-18mbs u/l with 5-15ms ping in speedtest, now i'm getting 24 d/l  2.9 u/l and 50+ ping, the connection is slow and it drops approx 20 times a day. I can no longer watch streams, HD videos and gaming(the reason i got Infinity) is impossible as the lag is horrific and the drop offs finish it off, even web pages with pictures can take forever to load, the pics load gradually like back in the dial-up days.
BT Wholesale now gives 24.5mbs d/l 2.9 u/l and says the max for my line is 25.11mbs so what happened to the 58-76mbs i was quoted and the 75mbs i was actually getting?
It all seems to start since the latest firmware 4.7.5.1.83.8.130.1.17 (Type A) was installed, it was rock solid until then, now it feels like my speed and bandwidth have been heavilly capped to the point the service is not even good for web browsing as many pages time out.
The event log is now filled with IN: BLOCK [16] Remote administration (TCP 222.186.62.66:6000->109.158.116.58:22 on ppp1)
i thought it might be due to the storms around xmas but a month on and some googling im realising im just 1 of many with these problems, has anybody managed to get the problems solved?
To Infinity and back down to Earth in flames.

  • Super Slow speeds and extremely high latency

This is my last attempt with Verizon high speed DSL (the only service they offer here). I have been dealing with them for months about my slow connection speeds and high latency. Finally, after a new modem, supposed line monitoring and a two tech visits the last tech found noise in the line and fixed some of my issue. Now my speed and pings are good EXCEPT during peak hours (M-F 12 pm -1 pm, 3 pm - 7 pm and Friday and Saturday 7-11 pm). During these times m Internet becomes completely unusable with download speeds of 0.25 MBps and pings over 400 ms and today I had a pint of 1713 ms!!! Clearly there is an issue here.

    Hi schichler,
Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you. Please go to your profile page for the forum and look at the top of the middle column where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under "My Support Cases" you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. The title of your post is the link. This should be checked on a frequent basis, as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions. To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe". Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

  • Sub-par speeds and a flaky connection

I have a Westell 7500-a190 modem without an antenna. My plan is for download speeds of 3-7 mb/s. At the moment, my download speed (based on the modem's configuration access page) is .768 mb/s. Everytime I reboot the modem I get a different speed. Most of the time I end up with speeds around .3-1.5 mb/s, rarely receiving the 3-7 mb/s that is to be expected. A logical person might ask: Why not just wait until you win the lottery of connection speeds and than be happy? The answer to that question involves the fact that usually within a short period of time after connecting, I disconnect. I can usually reconnect, but often with a much lower speed. Is there anything that can be done about this problem, or is it inherant to some Verizon customers?

These are usually isolated issues as they are dependant on per-connection conditions. Here it sounds like the copper circuit you're on has some sort of issue that is preventing the modem from getting the connection it should be able to get. Would you be willing to provide some Transceiver Statistics to us? You can find them if you go to http://192.168.1.1/htmlV/transtat.asp or by going to http://192.168.1.1/ by clicking System Monitoring, Advanced Monitors, and finally, Transceiver Statistics. A Screenshot or a Copy and Paste of the data will work.

  • Fcp - ram speed, bus speed, and 64 bit processing

how much do these (ram speed, bus speed, and 64 bit processing) specs play a role in fcp's performance? I hear conflicting opinions about it's utilization of the 64 bit processor(s). some say yes some say no. is ram speed from one rev to the next that much different, particularly in the last two G5's? Or, is the amount of ram and the processor type the most important considerations in optimizing fcp performance? thanks for your help!

SD/SDI card is to bring in video material in formats other than DV. If all you will ever work in is DV or HDV, firewire only is fine. If you want to work with non-DV formats and without expansion slots, you need to look into something like the AJA io to do your conversion and bring it down firewire. This solution has its own potential problems when the device and the hard drives are on the same bus.
You need a second drive just for media. On the Powermac you simply add a second internal drive. This is not possible on the iMac - an external firewire drive is the only option. This by itself is not an issue. Most people who do this with any seriousness end up adding a series of external hard drives to deal with the mass of media.
The limiting factor is that you only have one firewire bus (all macs have only one firewire bus) and if you run into problems with the camera (or VTR or AJA io) & hard drives not cooperating on one bus, you have no option to fix it. On the iMac, you have no option to add in a card to create a second firewire bus in the system.
So yes, the people at the store are correct. You can make the iMac work (with an external firewire drive). However, if you run into problems, you have severely limited options to mediate them. What I was trying to suggest is some things work better. An analogy might be, If I need to drive nails, the handle of a screwdriver can be made to work, but I should not be surprised if it does it badly and breaks when pushed hard.
    good luck.

  • I cannot add on my "collection" of on the Firefox website "Page Speed" of google

IT IS A WEBSITE PROBLEM NOT FIREFOX SOFTWARE.
Same as title. It just doesn't find the addon "Page speed" of google on the website of Firefox. And because I tend to lose the plugins while switching between FF versions, I really need a place to collect all my addon as list.

Both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

  • Speed and memory capacity

My 2.4 GHz and 2 GB MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.2, purchased last November, is much slower with increasing photos and tunes, and I'm trying to determine how much capacity I have and how much is acceptable. I've been told I should have at least 25% capacity free -- is that true? The bottom of the Finder page tells me I have 24.71 GB available, as against 2 GB memory! Clicking on the apple and going to More Info, the Serial-ATA line under Hardware also tells me I have 24.71 GB available in my Macintosh HD, out of a capacity of 148.73 GB; but above that, my Fujitsu (under the Intel info) says I have 149.05 GB. Can anyone tell me how all this fits together, and does it affect my computer's speed or not?
    Thank you!

    Hello Nakoma,
I'm afraid you're confusing two different things. The computer has a hard drive - HDD (Hard Disc Drive) which is where all of your data and applications are stored - think of it like a filing cabinet. It is a good idea to keep about 10-15% of this as free space to prevent disk errors. Your hard disk is 148Gb and has 24gb free - which is fine. If you would like to free some space, get an external hard drive as extra storage - this will plug into your computer or you can buy blank DVDs which are 4Gb each and burn data to them.
Memory on the other hand generally refers to random access memory (RAM) of which you have 2Gb. This memory is not a drive but a chip or two chips and the computer uses these for short term storage whilst it processes information - a bit like a desk - the larger your desk the more things you can work on simultaneously. When the computer is started, it loads applications you are using into ram. Ram is much faster than a disk drive. The computer is very good at managing the use of ram, so when an application doesn't need to use ram any more, the computer makes the ram available to other applications. If you run short of ram, the computer will use some of your hard disk space as "temporary memory". If you close an application you can free the ram it was using.
So having more ram means you can prevent your computer using the disk drive as temporary or "Virtual memory" as it is called. You can get up to 4gb of ram (this is two chips) and they are easy to install. If you'd like to get them I would recommend buying from Crucial.com. However, if in fact your use of the computer doesn't cause the computer to run out of ram then you won't see any benefit from 4gb over 2gb.
The only way to tell is to look at ram usage over time. If you look in activity monitor (which is in the Applications/Utilities Folder - and click on the VIEW menu and DOCK ICON - change this to SHOW MEMORY USAGE. The dock icon will now show a pie chary with three colours. As long as there is some blue or some green showing you are not out of memory. Also, if you click on WINDOW/Activity Monitor at the top - and then select SYSTEM MEMORY - you can see how memory is being used. Look at the bottom where it says Page Ins and Page Outs - this is to show how much data has been written to the hard drive. As long as the ratio between the two is less than 20% or so, you are not running out of memory.
I do hope you don't mind the long explanation, but it's important to note that memory (RAM) and Storage - Hard Disk Space are two different things.
    Hope that helps.
    Best of luck.

  • Internet speed and Safari

I have a new iMac core duo. I am using time capsule to network in my home all my computers and printer. I have an ISP which is a point to point wireless system. I experience slowness loading pages. Speeds do vary at times. How does traffic affect speed? I don't understand what requires upload speed and what requires download speed. But there are times when my upload speed is double digits kbps and should be triple digits numbers and my download speeds are 1900 kbps. Other times I get triple digits. I live on the fringe of my community (2 miles from city limits) thus do not have access to DSL or Cable systems. I am using Bridgemaxx (www.bridgemaxx.com) as my ISP.
What requires upload speeds (for example does upload speed require loading of pages) and what requires download speed?
Another question is whether Safari is affecting my speed and if so what can I do to improve the performance of Safari to increase speed?
Also would the Time capsule be restricting the speed? I have connected the internet directly to my computer and not seen significant increase in speed? Which leads me back to Safari.

    Hello har:
I will attempt to answer some of your questions:
+What requires upload speeds (for example does upload speed require loading of pages) and what requires download speed?+
Upload is anything your are sending out (for example, E-mail. If an E-mail attachment is large, that will take awhile). Download is content you are receiving from the Internet (Safari pages, for example).
+Another question is whether Safari is affecting my speed and if so what can I do to improve the performance of Safari to increase speed?+
Resetting Safari will clear all sorts of things. However, clearing cache, for example, will slow the browser for awhile. Safari, per se, is not affecting your speed - what you are accessing, server speeds, load, and, most importantly, your ISP affect speeds.
+Also would the Time capsule be restricting the speed? I have connected the internet directly to my computer and not seen significant increase in speed? Which leads me back to Safari.+
    I doubt it.
In summary, your ISP is probably the most important factor in your overall performance. In my case, with DSL, the ISP performance rarely, if ever, varies.
