Pages won't "save as"

Hello, I have looked through this forum and can't find my exact problem so am hoping to get some help.  I intalled the pages app on my iMac at school where I teach elementary math.  I made a graphing document for my fourth graders and tried to "save as".  The only option I see is "save".  When I hit that, it saved it as "untitled" to some random location - it wouldn't let me choose my saving location.  I managed to rename the file, but still will only let me "save" and the screen bleeps like it's saved but I still don't know where it has been saved to without doing a search in finder.
THEN, I edited the document to make it suitable for my third graders, but obvioulsy wanted to save it as a different file. Again, no "save as" feature.  I duplicated it and renamed it but it still goes to some random unknown place when I hit the save button.
All I want to do it put it in the right place on my computer so I can find it next year.  Where is the "save as" button and why is it not letting me choose my file name and location?
I do not have a trial version of this software.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!
Dana

You need to tell us both what version of Pages and OSX you are using.
It sounds like Pages 5 on OSX 10.9 Mavericks?
Hold down the option key and go to the File menu and you will see Save as…
You need to turn the triangle in the Save dialog box to see more choices where to save.

Then you have two version of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.x is in your Applications folder.

  • After 10.5.1 update, Pages won't save

After I installed Leopard, Pages would not save new documents or save new versions of existing documents. It would crash and leave a black outline of the Save window on the desktop, requiring me to Force Quit. I trashed the preferences and repaired permissions and everything went back to normal. However, after updating to 10.5.1 just now, this problem has returned -- and my previous solution no longer works.
    Any ideas?

    Peggy,
I didn't repair the permissions until I experienced the problems with Pages after the initial installation. After I did this, things worked fine. Like I said, after updating to 10.5.1 yesterday, the problem returned and after repairing permissions didn't get things back to normal, I reinstalled iWork '08.
Here's something odd. Even though I trashed the entire iWork '08, when I reinstalled, the installer told me that zero space was required to install iWork '08. So maybe there's some other disk issue involved?
The Repair Disk option is grayed out in Disk Utilities. There's an instruction to run the reapir application from a CD or DVD, but Leopard only has one installation disk and it doesn't have any independently running repair program on it.

  • I recently tried to change a sved password for my Exchange Server email account, by deleting the site from my "Saved Passwords" tab in the Tools-Options-Security page. Now this web page won't save any entered data.

I wanted to change my password for logging in to my work email address. The site was not prompting me to change it automatically, so I manually removed it from the list in the TOOLS-SECURITY-OPTIONS page. Now this site won't retain any kind of entered data, such as addresses that I compose emails to very regularly.
How can I get this site back on the list that will save passwords? I've tried re-starts, log-out and back in, etc, and it won't prompt me to save a password.

  • Documents in Pages won't save, says I don't have permission

I've been using Pages all day and suddenly it won't let me save my work as it says I don't have permission. I've checked and everything's unlocked, I have permission for everything. I can't see anything that's changed. Anyone got any ideas?

This is a bug in Pages 5 and iCloud/Drive.
Try saving the fles to a different location.
Try avoiding Pages 5 and use a stable version with most of the useful features, such as Pages '09.

  • Pages won't save changes to files

This has happened twice already in a row: I perform changes to a file, and Pages will later on display a previous version of that same file. As a consequence, I lose ALL of the changes I have done.
This had not happened before, and I'm running an updated version of the app.
Did anyone have the same problem and was able to solve it?
    Thank you.

If you save the document as a .doc do you get the changes in that document?
Do you mean by " get back into the document, it doesn't save it" that it isn't saved in Pages? If you haven't saved the Pages document it will not remember your changes. If you mean that the template you have used doesn't remember your changes it doesn't, never, because the template is just that. You have to save the changed document as a template and it will be saved in "My Templates" and found in the template chooser.

  • Pages won't save to subfolders

I'm having trouble saving pages documents to subfolders in my Documents folder but they will save to the Documents folder itself, just no subfolders. I've tried exporting to Word and PDF as well. When I save as a Pages file it says 'Couldn't auto-save document' and if I try to export it says The document “name” could not be exported as “name”. I've tried a number of different file names. I've tried to restart the computer but still get the same problem.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Pages won't save - says it can't open file:  SOLUTION, sort of.

I have the newest version of Pages, version 5.2. Operating on a MacBook Pro, OSX 10.9.2
Up to yesterday, everything was fine.  I created and saved documents. All was good. No software changes have been made since then.
Last night, I opened a new blank document, took minutes at a meeting, and I cannot save them.
In the meantime, the only thing that happened was that I plugged in an external drive and downloaded another Pages document from it.
When I try to save, or save as, or export - to try to save it in any format, by any name - all it says is that it cannot open the file.  Which is already open.
I came here to post it as a problem, but something I did seems to have worked.
I copied and pasted the information into Notes, so I wouldn't lose it.
I quit Pages. I quit every document that was open.  It LOOKED like it had quit.  But something was still lurking. I chose "force quit" and it really quit, and after that seems to be working.
I am baffled.  But it's working again.

i found the profile file, but couldn't find any .xpi file or folder in it.

  • Pages won't save a document

    Pages '09 4.3.
    OS 10.8.4.
    Mac Desktop
I can't save a document that has already been saved once.
"The document “xxx.pages” could not be saved."
I've tried copying the original but I get the message "The document “xxx. copy” could not be saved as “xxx. copy.pages”. Invalid argument"
It saves to iCloud as a 'tef' doc, but I don't want to save to iCloud (just a 'thing')
Does this mean that iCloud MUST have a copy of any document I produce in Pages? And if so, WHY?!
And what does this mean?  "The document “xxx copy” is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage."?

Are you saving to a network volume, that is not formatted MAcOS X Extended (Journaled)? See:
OS X Server: "The document 'file name' is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage" alert
Try "File > Move to" instead of save and move the document to your system drive. Then save the changes.
    Does that work?

  • Home page won't save

I am using safari 4.0.4 with Windows 7. I have tried to go into preferences and change my home page. But every time I launch the program it starts with the safari startup page. Any help on saving these changes?

I have tried to go into preferences and change my home page.
Intersting. I'd like to check first if this is a systemwide issue or it it is specific to a single Windows 7 user account. (That will let us know if this is an issue with a Safari preference file, for example.)
From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
Open Add or remove user accounts.
Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process. (Give the new user account full administrative rights.)
Once the new account is created, choose Log Off from the Start menu. Log into the newly created user account. (Do not use fast user switching to move between the accounts.)
Launch Safari in the new user account. Change your home page, quit Safari, and launch Safari again. Does it go to the new homepage, or does it go to the default home page again?

  • Firefox v. 30 won't save a page as "Web page, complete" -- NEVER

I tried to save a page as "Web page, complete" in v. 30. It used to work in v. 29. Now it never saves the original. It used to say in the Downloads list, when I did save a file, that it failed. I learned to ignore that, because the first time I would save a file, as "web page, complete," it did get listed in Windows explorer and I could open it up in Firefox and see it, looking close to the same way I saw it originally (some words are on a new line, and images are smaller).
It is most critical when I want to save a list of the journal articles I download, along with images of the check off boxes having a check mark. In v. 29, they were there. If I saved the saved page again, after checking off more boxes, it wouldn't save it but it wouldn't tell me so, either. I would have to always keep an eye on the directory listing in Windows Explorer. I learned to just save it again, and it would be saved. However, now in v. 30 it NEVER saves the main htm page of this ORIGINAL web page when I save it with the option "web page, complete," but it does save the "_files" folder for ancillary images. I now have to save the original web page as file type: "files, all," putting in the .htm as file extension. I then open it up in firefox, and none of the boxes are checked as they were in the original. So I have to recheck all the boxes again and then save it as "web page, complete". This time, the "web page, complete" works, but clearly not on the original web page. The resulting file looks like the page that got saved with the "files, all" option I saved before, but now the boxes I checked off are still checked off. I get the web page back, but not looking much like it was originally, and only after a great deal of work.
I am using Firefox 30 on XP

I appreciate your thought on this problem. Yes, all journal database searches use the same algorithm but there is something in common to all which is not present in many other kinds of web pages, e.g. PubMed abstracts or pages with just an abstract, or blog posts or news stories -- the boxes to check off (e.g. to list all abstracts and citations for the ones you choose) and the listings of links to abstracts, pdfs, supplements, etc. posted with each article description (see searches by Oxford University Press http://rspb.royalsocietypublishing.org/search and by Sage http://online.sagepub.com/search ). The links and empty check boxes get printed on the "save page" result, but any check boxes you checked off lose the check after saving the page as a "Web page, complete."
That was not the case in v. 29. In most of the past Firefox versions, the resulting page saved does not look like the original one, because of the realignment of text and links. However, now, the functionality of those saved pages is seriously compromise. Worse, there are no images. I could tolerate what v. 29 did, but not what 30 is doing.
I just found out that although the downloads tool window list of titles that appears after you tried to save a page always lists the attempt as having "Failed", you can succeed in completing some files when you click on its name in the list. Usually, as I said in the past, you just try again and it saved in version pre-28 (I think). But as I mentioned before you can't trust what the downloads tool tells you. In the past it actually finally, after another attempt, saved the page despite telling you it failed in that window. I click on the "failed" download now and it does download, but is missing any of the list of articles found on the original web page, so certainly, the result is not what you were aiming for with the "Save", "Web page, complete" choice. The main point here is that there are no check boxes, empty or filled at all in an attempt to use "Web page, complete" option in the "Save" choice for any journal database search. I can only conclude that "Web page, complete" doesn't work for journal article searches.
The main reason for keeping a web page functionality in a "save web page" option is to be able to work on it offline. I can copy the information about specific articles I downloaded to enter into my own Reference Manager program, along with the relevant links. I can carry this web page with me to a university where I can download the article without having to run a search all over again, with the strong possibility that it won't give me all the same results as I just got at home, losing some articles I really wanted to get. Saving a web page tells me what I was interested in to begin with, which gets lost if the boxes I checked off are not in what I can save.

  • Firefox won't save images or web pages, even after upgrading, reinstalling and resetting... How do I fix this?

A couple upgrades ago, I noticed that Firefox wouldn't boot properly. According to "Task Mgr.", it would load partially with a "*32" after it's name in the listing, but not enough to display a window on screen. After ending the process, and restarting the program again it would usually boot fully. (not always, but usually) The "*32" confuses me as I run a 64bit Windows 7 system and during installation I was sure that I saw mention of a 64bit program being installed. Apparently, after the last upgrade, that issue was resolved; but Task Mgr. still lists the program with a "*32" after it.
The issue now at hand is that Firefox won't save images online or save web pages. I'll right-click and select "save image as" or "save page as" and... nothing. No box appears prompting me to name a file or designate a location to save that file to. Nor does anything happen when I use the "File" menu for the same function either. This is, to say the least, is very frustrating. There may be other things not functioning that I'm not currently aware of, but I haven't been able to or had time to do a complete check of the functionality of the program. I've never had issues of any significance with Firefox in the past. It's always been very reliable for me, so I'm hoping there's a relatively quick fix that I simply haven't been made aware of yet...
Thank you for your suggestions and time looking into this matter...
    Curtis Laipple

It probably will take a little time to work through this troubleshooting article, but hopefully you will get a complete solution: [[What to do if you can't download or save files]].
Regarding the *32, I see the same thing on Win 7 Pro x64. No worries. Firefox for Windows is compiled only as a 32-bit application.

  • Pages won't allow me to save document, can't gain permission to documetns

Pages won't allow me to save documents, as it claims I don't have permission to access Documents or any other folder I try save anything in. I have gone to file info, made sure documents and all other folders are unlocked, and on the file I have permissions to read and write. Yet despite this, Pages keeps insisting I don't have permission. What can I do?

I have also tried the Disk utility repair function but that did nothing.

You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.
