Palm Z22 Handheld and iSync - compatible?

Is the Palm Z22 Handheld compatible with iSync 2.1.1?
It is sold online in the Apple Store but is not listed on the iSync compatible list on the Apple web site, nor does Palm list it as compatible except with PCs - via MS Outlook.
Seems like it must be or they would not sell it?

You can use the Address Book and iCal, choosing to synchronize your contacts, events and tasks with iSync, or you can use these same applications with the Missing Sync for Palm OS instead of using iSync. To use your Palm T|X with iSync, simply add it as a device using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu. [It must have a HotSync name different than the one used with your m101 if you intend to use both devices.]
There are lots of reasons to do so, including its far greater flexibility and reliability, its individual Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks conduits, the far superior mapping of categories to groups across platforms, and the add-ons, like iTunes and iPhoto synchronization, AvantGo content synchronization, the OS X memo application and matching conduit…
The list goes on and on. You can learn more about the Missing Sync for Palm OS here:

  • Palm Zire 31 and iSync

I have the Hotsync Manager set up correctly and the information get transferred to the Palm. I receive no error messages. I have it sync all contacts and addresses.
The problem is that it does not include all of the information for the contacts. All of the contacts are listed in the palm, just not al of the information. An example would be displaying only a work address and not a home address. I have downloaded and installed 421 Revd of the Palm Software.
    Any suggestions?
    I am runnning 10.4.4, iSyc 2.1.1 on a G4 Quicksilver.

Actually—with iSync—that means it's working just fine. This issue is a long-standing shortcoming of the iSync Palm Conduit. Addresses labeled 'home' do not synchronize, and by default, address fields in Address Book records are labeled 'work' - not 'home.' Nice design, eh?
You can work around it by labeling the address you want synchronized 'work' and place any secondary address information in the free-form Note field, which is synchronized.
Or, you can purchase and download the Missing Sync for Palm OS from Mark/Space, which replaces the iSync Palm Conduit with three conduits: Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks. There is no such limitation in the Mark/Space Contacts conduit, and it synchronizes multiple addresses, along with data that iSync does not: IM and URL data, for example.

  • Palm Z22 and issue with using Outlook 2007.

Info:  Palm Z22, Desktop software for Palm is updated to most current, Outlook 2007, 32 bit Windows Vista computer.
I have been using Palm Z22 for several years.  I want to use Outlook 2007  but cannot get the data from the Palm device or the Palm desktop software transfered to the Outlook 2007.  I have tried a reinstall of the Palm Destop software, including choosing the Outlook option over the Palm option and nothing happens.
My goal is to use Outlook 2007 to sync with the Palm Z22 device and vice versa.  I am wanting  the calendar primarily.
    Thankyou for any help.

  • Palm Z22-how can I delete previous recurring items in one fell swoop?

Hello, I have a number of daily and weekly reminders in my palm z22 handheld pda (software v 4.5.2P) calendar (datebook) that are useful for the future, but all the the old ones (that I was too busy to delete at the time) are simply bogging down my overall speed and hogging my overall memory.  Is there a way I can delete recurring reminders that occur before today's date?  Thanks for any help.  Bob

Try this: On your handheld or desktop (one, but not both), go to the first date of the recurring item you want to keep, and make a minor change (i.e. set a reminder time, or delete the reminder time, or add a period to the subject, etc), selecting "this and future" for what you want the change to refer to.  Synch, then go to one of the older items that you want to delete, and delete "all" of those items.  The one you changed should still remain on your calendar, and then you can fix that minor change that you made to keep it.  This works for me (Tungsten E2), so I hope it also works for you.

  • Need Palm Z22 driver

Hi all.  I have a Palm Z22 handheld I purchased in 2005...still works great.  We bought a new PC in Dec with Vista but weren't able to restore all the items from the old hard drive and can't seem to get it to recognize the Z22. Says it needs device driver, however I've misplaced the original install CD that came with it.  Today I downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2 thinking that would solve the problem but it didn't.  I have searched all the recommended sites for a replacement cd no one has one for the Palm Z22.  Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
You need to go visit the Windows Hotsync board and spend some time reading through the "stickied" threads about Windows Vista issues.  Actually, I'm going to move this thread to that board.
First thing you need to determine is whether your Vista computer is 32-bit or 64-bit.  If it's 64-bit, there are no drivers and you will have to sync via IR beaming.

  • Unable to isync palm Z22, failing on ical

just got a new palm z22, set up for isync. i've got Mac OSX 10.3.9, isync 1.5, ical 1.5.5(v670).
in hotsync conduit manager, for isync conduit, checked "enable isync for this palm device". when i do sync, it takes forever the first time (as expected) but ultimately it fails, hotsync log is pasted below. however, it does look like all my entries (from ical, address book, etc.) DID get added to my palm! however without a successful initial sync i'm assuming subsequent syncs will also take forever and fail.
checked free space on my palm after sync failure, it says i have free space 19.4M of 24.6M. i have 8 years worth of data in my ical but it's not very big, on palm it says calendar is 672K / 8568 records. interestingly, it also says date book is 467K / 8555 records. i didn't get any conduit conflicts so am not sure why they both are getting updated.
did see some postings about manually managing conduits in /Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/Conduits folders, but after one of my syncs, everything in that folder disappeared! even so, hotsync does seem to run and data gets added to my Palm but sync ultimately fails.
if anyone could provide some pointers it would be GREATLY appreciated!

Michael, thanks for your prompt reply, and for pointing me to that thread. to make my long story short:
    1) i went into hotsync conduit manager and set ALL of them to "do nothing" except for isync (set to enable isync for this device), backup (set to backup) and install (set to install files)
    2) did a hard reset of the palm device
unfortunately sync failed again, here is the tail end of the hotsync log:

again though, it does look like all the ical and address book data did in fact make it onto the palm device, but the sync just dies at the end. i don't think the ical size is the problem, same stats as in my original message, 19.5M of 24.6M free on the palm.
somewhere in my many sync / reset / sync / reset attempts, my /HD/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits folder got empty. so i can't follow your advice of moving conduits to the disabled folder, because neither the conduits nor the disabled folder even exist anymore! is that of any concern?

I have  been trying to sync my Palm Z22 with a new laptop that is running the 64-bit Vista.  Based on some posts I had located, I ordered an IrDA Wireless Bridge to try to resolve the connection problem.  Something isn't working right and I can't figure out how to fix the problem.  The IrDA adapter is listing in the hardware option on the computer so it appears to have installed correctly.  The laptop has inconsistently recognized the USB connection when I plug it in however.  I can not seem to get the IrDA adapter to recognize my Z22.  I've got the Z22 set up to use the infrared to transfer information.  I have noted that the "beam" feature is ON.  I have looked at APPS and have observed that most of those options are "locked" and when I have clicked on "contacts" for example, it says it's a locked app and can not be beamed.  I don't know if that is part of the problem  or unrelated.  I also happened to observe that the Apps are listed as what to transfer with MODEM connection but I'm not sure why that is even showing as a connection option since I've never used the modem to connect.
I can successfully use my Z22 to connect via USB cable to my Vista 32-bit computer system.  I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong in my attempts to use the adapter and connecting the Z22 with the new laptop.
I'm not sure what else to do and would very much appreciate some help with this.  Could someone PLEASE tell me what I may be doing wrong re: the setup connection between the adapter and Z22 or any other ideas re: what the problem may be concerning why I'm not yet being successful in getting this setup to work...?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance with this problem.
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

Sorry for the delay in replying (bet you were hoping this worked, huh?) but it has taken some time to uninstall & reinstall the Palm software and make numerous attempts to configure the information to again try to sync the Z22 with the laptop.  I went back to amazon.com and located the device I'd purchased to confirm it would work with the 64-bit Vista.  Someone had posted their success in using the adapter for exactly what I need to do - sync my Z22 with a 64-bit Vista computer.  That consumer's posting noted: "The USB 1510 provided the solution. As soon as I plugged it into the USB port of the laptop, Vista went online, found the driver, and installed it. I was able to set up IR Hotsync as I would have on any laptop with a built-in IRDA port."
I don't know what problem I'm having but have noted that my palm desktop software doesn't note what device (Z22) is to be connected and I can't find anything in the HotSync manager that allows me to specify that device.  For some reason, I had gotten an error message and it referenced a Treo connection which is odd since I don't have a Treo and I downloaded this Palm desktop from the Z22 site online...?  I did note my software on my Z22 is a v. 5 but when I checked various support sites online, it appears to indicate that version on my Z22 would be compatible with the Palm 6.2 version I just downloaded to my computer (and I can't find any information to indicate a newer software for my Z22 is available or how to do that either).
So, I'm back to not being able to get my Z22 to be recognized by my computer via the infrared adapter.  I'm hoping that some of the added information I've been able to provide may give another clue of something else I can try before I have to give up and contact Amazon to return this device and either try to decide what other device may be an option.  I had checked with a local computer supply store here but they don't carry any type of device for this purpose so that's why I resorted to searching online for a solution to this problem.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may still be able to provide.  I really do appreciate your time with this matter.

  • Isync failing to ical for palm z22 after upgrade to mac os x 10.5.1

just upgraded my powerbook G4 to mac os x 10.5.1, now unable to successfully complete hotsync. new events on my palm DID get added to my iCal, but hotsync manager dies before completion with an error message. see below for hotsync log details.
previously had os x 10.3.x and was syncing my palm z22 with iCal, address book, etc. just fine. to make it as simple as possible, in isync i un-checked "contacts", and under "calendars" i checked "ignore palm events older than one month". in hotsync conduit settings, "isync conduit" is set as "enable isync", all other conduits are set as "do nothing".
have pored through the many threads on sync problems with 10.5.x but didn't see one with this particular symptom. any insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • Data transfer from old to new Palm using HotSync Manager and iSync

I'm upgrading from a Palm m515 to a Palm TX and want to quickly and easily transfer all of my data and applications. I'm using Palm's HotSync Manager but not the Palm Desktop software -- I'm using Apple's iSync to synchronize my data with iCal and Address Book.
Can anyone tell me what steps I should follow to safely accomplish the transfer?
I was hoping someone had written a guide to this, but Web searching revealed nothing. The best info I found was on Palm's site, but these pages don't take iSync into account and assume people are using Palm Desktop:
Upgrading from a previous Palm OS handheld

    Thanks in advance!

Just use Migration Assistant when you start the new machine. You can choose to migrate from either the old MBP or your TM backup.
If you have already taken delivery of the new machine and are using it you can still do this by running Migration Assistant.
    It's pretty simple process.

  • ISync Palm overwrite iCal and sync AddressBook

    Hi,
I used to use iSync with my old palm, but disabled the conduit.
Now I have a new Palm Tungsten T5 and want to start using iSync again.
Do I just re-download the conduit?
Also, when I do the first Sync, I'd like to overwrite iCal with the DateBook info on the Palm. However I've been adding addresses to both the Palm and the Mac, so I don't want to overwrite the Mac addressbook, but synchronise the two. Is it possible to sync addresses whilst overwriting datebook? Or could/should I wipe iCal clean somehow first? How would I do that?
    Cheers.
    iCal v1.5.5
    AddressBook v3.1.2
    Palm Desktop v4.2.1
    Mac OS X 10.3.9

There is really no simple way to do this.
You should actually start by installing the Palm Desktop software from the CD-ROM which came with your Tungsten, then 'upgrading' using the downloadable installer located here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
Once you have done this, you should move your Palm conduits so that only these current versions of the standard conduits are present in the active Conduits folder:
    • Calendar Conduit
    • Contacts Conduit
    • Memos Conduit
    • Tasks Conduit
The Disabled Conduits folder should initially contain these conduits, if they are present in your configuration:
    • Address Conduit
    • Apple [that's the iSync Palm Conduit's Finder name]
    • Backup Conduit
    • Datebook Conduit
    • Install Conduit
    • Memo Conduit
    • ToDo Conduit
…along with any other inactive conduits.
Having done that, you need to then use the HotSync Manager to configure the individual conduits so that the Calendar and Tasks conduits are set to Macintosh overwrites handheld, and the Contacts conduit is set to Synchronize. Then, synchronize your handheld with the Palm Desktop. This step accomplishes several things: it meets the Apple requirement to synchronize at least once with the Palm desktop before installing and using iSync, it creates a a contemporary backup of your data, and it allows you to achieve the data transfers according to the patterns which you want - something that iSync does not allow.
Now you need to download and install the iSync Palm Conduit. Having done that, launch the HotSync Manager or use the HotSync options of the Palm Desktop to add your device to iSync. Do this by selecting the iSync Palm Conduit, and checking the option to Enable iSync for this Palm device. Before you synchronize with iSync, do this…
    • export your calendar and task data from the Palm Desktop in vCal format
    • export your contact data from the Palm Desktop in vCard format
    • import the vCal data into iCal, replacing the current record set
    • import the vCard data into the Address Book, replacing the current record set
Now, launch iSync, and configure the calendar and contact options you want in the drop-down configuration pane for your device. Initiate a synchronization event, and choose to merge - rather than to replace - the data on your devices.

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

  • Palm Z22 and Outlook 2007

I have been using my plam on a windows xp computer for awhile. Now I would like to sync the palm to outlook 2007 on same system.  The sync goes through but none of the data from the palm is in outlook and the data from outlook is not on the palm. I tried the outlook 2007 conduit and upgrading to 6.2
But I can not merge the data.  Anyone have any thoughts?
    thanks
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

You do not need the Outlook 2007 Conduits for the Z22 if you are using PD 6.2, they are built into PD6.2.
Did you look in Hotsync manager and make sure the conduits are set to Outlook?
You may want to look in start-programs-palm conduit sync and change the conduits to Outlook.

hello soundguy and welcome to the forums....
You can only sync to Vista 64 bit with a Bluetooth wireless connection.  Palm has no drivers for 64 bit version of Vista supporting the cable sync.  Unfortunately, the Z22 does not have Bluetooth.
The only suggestions I can offer is to use an IRDA to USB adapter and sync that way.  The challenge is to find an Infra Red adapter with 64 bit drivers.

  • Isync3/Ical no longer working with Palm z22

I'm not sure when it started, but all of a sudden my ical stopped being able to sync with my Palm z22. It always used to give me an error message at sync, but I ignored it because it always transferred over 100% of the information I was using anyway (I only use calendar and address book).
First it stopped syncing my contacts, and then finally it stopped syncing the main parts of my Ical. As far as I can tell it still brings over events but places them in the "undefined" tag at 7am that day, without any notes: totally useless.
I tried everything I could think of last night after googling for four hours and eventually an Isyncing caused a fatal error on my Palm which lost my entire contact list. Which now renders the thing useless until I can restore it. I run a business and work out of it!
The error I'm getting says this (I bolded the part I think is the problem, after multiple searches):
    "HotSync 3.2.1 started 8/17/08 9:01:14 AM

Please help - as I said I run my business out of Ical, address book and the ability to sync with my palm.

Internet searches for hours provided absolutely no help either.
I'm actually really cheesed that no one seems to have paid any attention to this issue.
I ended up having to hard-reset my device (everything is backed up on the computer and I can't sync anything new so it's USELESS to me now), reinstall everything from scratch and try again : now I don't get an error message, but when it comes across the "iscync conduit" message on the hotsync message it lags for a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG time. Several minutes at least. The first few times I reset it thinking it was frozen.
And then at the end of all that nothing transfers anyway!
So, I'm done. I'm selling it to someone else. It's now a useless device to me thanks to whatever changed in Mac recently.
