Panic.log and Kernel Panic issues
Can anyone help me out with deciphering this kernel panic log. I've had about 4 KP's in the last couple months. I only have one in my log because I think that is the only one I have had since I did an erase and install. I checked it in for repair at an Apple Store where they ran a high load test on it and found no hardware problems nor could they determine the source of the KP's.
I have plently of disk space and a third party graphics card bought and installed at the Apple Store. The computer was used in a professional creative environment every day, 10 hours a day for a year and a half and was rarely shut down overnight. It was pushed pretty hard, was kept in an area that allowed for dust accumulation and the area below the desk where it was kept had pretty poor air flow. It was probably moved around a bit while running. All a recipe for disaster, but I figure it's better to be up front about it's condition before one were to help me out.
Beside the couple KP's I've had, it will occasionally hang up while switching into a different user while using "Fast User Switching". Aside from distinguishing what this log might mean, I am also curious to what degree a KP can have on further corruption of data. Data corruption concerns me more than the occasional KP that would force me to revert to my last save.
Here is the log file. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Since it references com.apple.iokit.IOFireWireFamily, I suspect that some FW device is causing the panic. Disconnect all of them and see if that stops the problem. As for general KP stuff, start with http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

Ipfw Logs and Other Delightful Issues
So. Frustrated. I've tried so many different things that I'm not really even sure where to start. Disclaimer: I might be a bit too cautious when it comes to security, and I have just enough knowledge to make my paranoia go into overdrive. Hopefully there's nothing seriously wrong here.
I'm running 10.4 on a MBP. I have the firewall enabled (Apple's and my router's) with all the services turned off, Stealth Mode enabled, block all UDP traffic, etc. A couple of spam emails bounced back to me that had originated from my account. The headers indicated that it was coming from a 10.103.197.1. I ran a traceroute and came up with nothing. After some Googling, I found out it's a blackhole. I got nervous and checked the ipfw logs and found a lot of connection attempts. Most, of course, are from sites I had visited, but a few IP addresses and ports looked strange. The logs are pretty lengthy, but here's a snippet. Again, I know a little, but I don't know enough to be 100% about what's normal and what isn't. I know a lot of them are safe websites, but I don't understand why they're trying to connect to the specific ports - I couldn't find any info on most of the ports. Bear with me if some of this is obviously benign.

209.85.225.100 (Go Daddy - no reason for this to be on here, is there?) attempting to connect to 54458, 54459, 55509, etc. There are quite a few of these.

63.84.59.50 is blacklisted as are some others - can't remember exactly what they are. I got a little discouraged and stopped checking all the IPs. Okay, so here's what I've done: Ran Clam (clean results), ran MacScan and found 1 tracking cookie that I removed, reconfigured Little Snitch and blocked the majority of the IPs. Oh - how do you manually block an IP range from the firewall? I can't figure that out.
OH - one more thing that I thought was really strange: I was poking around in Terminal and ran the who command just out of curiosity.

I'm really hoping this is just a fluke. I'm sorry this is so long, but I'm desperate here. I appreciate any input that you guys can give me! Many thanks.Hi warren.peace, and a warm welcome to the forums!
A couple of spam emails bounced back to me that had originated from my account. The headers indicated that it was coming from a 10.103.197.1. I ran a traceroute and came up with nothing.
Not to worry on that one, many Spammers fake//spoof the IP to get it delivered by returning it!
I don't understand why they're trying to connect to the specific ports - I couldn't find any info on most of the ports
I'm on Dial-up & get thousands of attempts some days
Run this on some of the ports you're worried about, click on SG security scan: port 51335 here for instance...

Log and Transfer uploading issues
When trying to transfer my footage in the 'Log and Transfer' window I am able to preview my footage, however when putting it into the import queue it simply pops up with a red circle and an exclamation mark in it... and when hovvering over it it says 'Error: No Data'.
However, for the past week or so I have been using log and transfer and it has worked perfectly fine, and now it has started to fail on me.
There is enough room on the hardrive, I have also read previous discussions which have been posted a few years ago trying to find out what the problem is, from doing this I have tried to change the sound to 'Plain stereo' and have cleaned the 'cache', yet the problem is still happening.
It is version 7.0.3.

Still having fan issues and kernel task issues
Hi there, I got a iMac Late 2013 model, 8 GB RAM, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Running Mac OS X 10.10.1. I have had issues in the past with this the Fan running for no reason on this computer. I read numerous articles about this on the web and most said to do a SMC reset and also that certain cables (USB) may cause this. I recently did and SMC, repaired permissions, ran daily/weekly/monthly scripts. Yesterday computer was fine, this morning the fan is going full blast and in activity monitor it says Kernel_task 300+% CPU, CPU time 22:32:14:55. Anyone have any thoughts on this as to why this continues or what I am missing here. Really gets annoying to shut down, SMC restart then good for a day or so. Thanks in advance
This was originally an old post from a couple months ago and I;m bringing it back to life here as the issue still persists. Any help is greatly appreciated.EtreCheck rain after I posted first message

Startup and Kernel Task Issues
I am having trouble with startup. The macbook takes 15-20 minutes to startup. I hear a knocking noise in the computer when it startsup and the wheel spins for around 15-20 minutes. The kernel_task takes up a lot of memory and cpu time. Here is my etresoft readout:

Any guidance is appreciated!!You should try reading the report for anything obvious like this:
Macintosh HD (disk0s2) / : 249.20 GB (23.64 GB free) - 65 errors
You need to start by repairing your hard drive to fix these errors. Also, you really don't have enough free space on your hard drive. You are right at the minimal limit.
I saw this as well:
Kernel Extensions: ℹ️
/System/Library/Extensions
[not loaded] com.wdc.driver.1394HP (1.0.6) [Support]
[not loaded] com.wdc.driver.USBHP (1.0.4) [Support]
I think these are related to an external device like a WD external drive. If the box is connected then try disconnecting it.
Note that at the end of the report is a whole litany of diagnostic crash reports. Two identifiable items are Creative Cloud and Quick Look Satellite. I would uninstall these.
Open Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder. Set the Processes listing to All Processes. Look for one or more called "cfprefsd." If you see one in red, then select it, click on the Quit icon in the toolbar, then click on the Force Quit button.
When you are all done restart the computer into Safe Mode, then restart the computer normally. -
Log and Transfer 1080i60 issue
I am trying to transfer the P2 data into FCP 6.0.5 at DVCPro HD 1080i60, but FCP keeps reverting the compression to DVCPro HD 1080p30.
The film was shot 1080i60. I have confirmed that all of the settings (timeline, capture presets, etc) are set for DVCPro HD 1080i60. I have deleted the project and opened a new one, dbl checked the XML files to confirm, and they show 1080i 59.94.
What am I missing?
I dealt with this issue in the past with another film, however, I forget what i did when I resolved the issue.I am still struggling with this issue of footage not transferring properly. I have sent messages to Panasonic, and it's not something they can resolve. It is an issue with FCP. No one else is experiencing this issue? I'm sure apple has a KB somewhere for it.

Can't get camera to play for log and capture.
Please help. I am in the middle of a huge project and I am stumped. I literally could log and capture without issue last night. Today, I can rewind and fast forward with log and capture, but when I press "PLAY" I get the spinning beach ball.
I have been using FCP for years (currently FCP 5.0). I am connected to a SONY TRV 18. I tried switching the camera out. I have restarted, trashed prefs, reinstalled FCP, tried the "Quicktime fix", and repaired permissions.
iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)Glad it spontainiously corrected itself. If it happens again and you did not do a QT/OSX upgrade, you might try the FCP Rescue path.
Click Here, select the appropriate version of FCP Rescue (4 for FCP4.x - 5 for FCP5.x), download it, expand it and select TRASH.
This will delete your FCP preference files that might have become corrupted.
good luck.

We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
See this page for details. You are experiencing a page fault (reference to an area outside of what is owned by the software in question) in the AirPort driver, in a Mac OS X kernel that does not have obvious third-party modifications to it.
This should not be happening. Your Mac OS X image may be Bad.
If you do not already have a Trusted Backup, that should be your Top Priority.
If this is a new MacBook, and it is within the first 90 days of ownership, contact telephone support and ask them to help you. They will likely suggest a re-Install, right over the Mac OS X you have in place now. This is intended to do no damage, but you should always have a Backup. -
We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
See this page for details.Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software. -
Hard Feezing and Kernel Panics - Early 11 MBP
Hey just wondering if anyone has any insight into this...
I've been experiencing hard freezing and kernel panics on my Early 11 Macbook Pro for several months. The hard freezing only happens when I wake up my system from sleep. I'll open the lid and when it happens, within seconds, everything locks up. No spinning wheel, just frozen machine and I have to do a hard reboot. I also get random kernel panics as well.
I took it in the the Genius Bar a few weeks ago, they ran tests and said the hardware was all fine and that I should reinstall Lion after a clean format. Well I did that and still having issues. Not sure if it's being caused by a 3rd party app...or if I really do have bad hardware after all.
When they did a diagnostic they said that 'soundflower' was showing up in my kernel panic log and that I should find what that is and delete it, so I did. In my most recent and only kernel panic, shown below, I don't see any 3rd party language anywhere.
Anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

Try either uninstalling Twitter or just don't use it. See if this stops the kernel panics.

PLEASE PLEASE help me on this issue.
Since I updated to Leopard (which has been the biggest mistake so far) every time I try to send an e-mail (using Apple Mail 3.0) through my company's server I get a Kernel Panic issue in four languages and I have to restart my computer. The funny thing is that sending the e-mail through Gmail's server works fine.
I don't know what to do, but its driving me crazy.
I appreciate all the help I can get to solve this problem.Thank you for your post!
Here are some troubleshooting steps for you to follow that may help you attempt to rectify your problem.
(1) Please ensure that you have ran all software updates: Apple, then Software Update, then install all updates that are shown. Once updates have been ran and you have rebooted, continue this process until it says no more updates are available at this time.
(2) What happens when you log into your companies webmail and attempt to send a message on the same connection? Does the same issue occur? If so consult with your IT administrator and see if other Macintosh users are having a similar problem.
(3) What happens when you attempt to send Mail in the activity pane? Click, (at top of screen) Window, then Activity pane before the panic occurs?
(4) Try creating a new user in System Preferences, then Accounts. Once you're in System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon. Then click on the padlock, and authenticate with your Administrative password. Click on the "+" sign, then the drop down that says "standard", and change that to Administrator. In each field type the word "test", and then click create account. Close out of System Preferences, then log out of your user account (Apple icon, then log-out). Once you've done this launch mail in the test user and reconfigure it with only your work mail account. Does the same issue persist in the new user when attempting to send mail? If so boot to your install disc for Leopard and run Disk Utilities Disk First Aid- Repair Disk and then proceed to Archive and Reinstalling your operating system preserving user and network settings.
Following this article is advised:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
(5) If you're able to send Mail successfully in the new user log out of test and log back into your user account as you've isolated the issue to be user specific. Go to System Preferences and delete the test user account then once you're sure no application is open such as Mail open a Finder window and then navigate to your Home folder, then Library, then Mail. Click and drag the Mail folder to the desktop. Then click Preferences, and find and remove com.apple.mail.plist to the desktop as well. Log out and log back in. Relaunch mail and reconfigure your mail account for work. If you click on Mail, then Preferences, then Accounts, make sure only your work account is listed in an attempt to remove any other variables. If the Google one is still listed remove it. Then re-add your work account after confirming the outgoing mail address with your IT administrator and the correct port number in addition to whether or not SSL is required and what type of authentication is necessary. If this works, then trash the .plist and leave the Mail folder on your desktop in the event you need to revert to your old database for whatever reason for at least a week or so till you're sure the problem has been permanently resolved.
Some other ideas that I have include:
* Are you hard wired via ethernet to your works network? Is there a wireless network that you can connect to via Airport disabling your ethernet connection? Attempt to send mail from that and see if the unit continues to kernel panic.
* Make sure any peripheral devices connected to your computer are removed (you never know, unlikely yes, but to be safe I'd remove them).
* If you upgraded from Tiger archiving and reinstalling preserving users and network settings may very well resolve your issue. Only do this after isolating that the problem is system wide across the OS.
* Leopard may not be compatible with your network at work for whatever reason, archiving and downgrading back down to Tiger 10.4 is always an option as well. Just make sure to use your Tiger disc and run software updates after to ensure you're on 10.4.11.
Making sure you have a complete backup prior to archiving or making any system modifications is equally as important especially if it's your work machine.
Hope this helps! :-D

Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on diagnosing kernel panics. -
I have been receiving Kernel Panics that have prevented me from using my iMac for several months now - I originally thought the problem was with the harddrive as it would become unavailable in Disk utility as well as in the Recovery Partition. I had taken it to a Genius Bar and they ran diagnostic software and found no issues they reinstalled OS X from their server and this did not solve it. I went back and they suggested I install a new harddrive - did that and it has not resolved the issues...This imac is new as of last july and has not had anywhere close to its harddrive being full etc. So the harddrive is out of the question.
One other thing to note is the only way I can install OS X is from a time machine back-up from my Macbook Pro to gain a somewhat usable iMac or running OS X from an external drive. Any help provided would be very much appreciated!
Here is the system log from the kernel panic - I have no clue how to read this:

Mac freezing and kernel panics
Please help if anyone can. I'm not much of a computer expert.
I apologize in advance if I'm not asking this question in the right forum or topic- I haven't ever posted before today.
I have a PowerMac G5 dual 2 GHz processor machine running 10.4.9. Lately I have had problems with freezing and kernel panics, especially at startup or soon after startup.
I have 1 GB RAM, 150 GB hard drive with 117 GB free space. I have no peripheral devices hooked to my computer- just an Apple USB mouse and keyboard that came with my computer.
Panics occur at startup usually, and require a restart using the power button.
Sometimes the system profiler shows that I have only 1 CPU.
I've run all the Apple hardware diagnostic stuff, Disk Utility, Disk Warrior, etc, and it comes up clean- no problems. I've run fsck -fy, and I've done a full erase and reinstall, then update to 10.4.9. Problem persists.
Sometimes I don't get the startup sound, and then everything freezes.
Sometimes it freezes on the blue screen and shows the prohibitory sign.
Sometimes when it freezes, the fans go wild and just keep increasing in speed until I force restart.
Recent kernel panic log reads as follows:
Unresolved kernel trap(cpu 0): 0x300 - Data access DAR=0x0000000070000200 PC=0x000000000003FE3C

PowerMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Based on that info, it sounds like either the optical or hard drive is beginning to go bad and perhaps the CPU on the logicboard. The fact it mentions iostorage, that typically deals with the storage devices on the computer. The fact that the CPU disappears is not good. Backup your data and try to replace the hard drive. See my FAQ* on backing up:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
A G5 takes SATA hard drives, and won't work with the Parallel ATA drives. SATA drives take the connectors shown here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
The drive may still be under warranty even if the computer is not. Look on the sticky label on the outside of the drive.

Please not the issue is not occurring when I run in safe modeUnless you are using an illegal hackintosh, there should not be a VooDooHDA.kext in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. That is what is causing the panic.
If you are using a hackintosh rather than a real Mac, then we cannot help you further.
