Panther clients can't do "find" on a network volume

10.3.9 server
10.3.9 clients
doing a "dind file", eg by date, on a netwrok volume fails.
The volume otherwise behaves OK
The same search, run on the server, behaves as expected.
Any ideas, anyone?
thanks

I had the drive on a user password, but changed it to just be accessible if you were connected to the router. With this setting I can see the files on my movie drive, but when I try to do I time machine backup, it just sits on the "making backup disk available" and never is able to start the backup. Is there some trick to allowing the disk to backup from the airport?

My new Canon Pixma 7250 wireless printercan no longer find my wireless network. (It worked fine until recently) I have a Yosemite 10.10.2. I've run diagnostics and the Canon LAN printer setup routine many times. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • How can I see /tmp on a Network Volume?

So if I'm using Connect to Server AFP volumes when I connect in Finder to the root volume of another machine directories like /tmp are not visible how can I see /tmp and other folders?

That and all the other Unix directories are invisible. They are invisible so that the user cannot access them and because they do not require access by a user. Is there a particular reason why you would need to access /tmp or the other invisible files and folders?
In order to see invisible files and folders via the Finder, you must turn on the capability. You can do that by opening the Terminal application in the Utilities folder, and at the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes
To turn off the feature substitute No for Yes in the command line. There are also numerous third-party utilities that can do this such as TinkerTool and ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • HT2497 Airport is not recognizing my wireless network because my wireless network has the same name as another apartment in my builing.  I cannot change the name because my room mate controls it, is there any way I can make it find my wireless network?

It used to be that the other apartment with the same name didn't have theirs password protected so even though only one or the other would show up, I could always get onto one.  Now, they have password protected theirs and it seems to be that 100% of the time only theirs shows up which I only can tell because it says "invalid password" when I try to connect to the Internet.
I have asked my room mate to just change the name of the network but she is really slow to do anything about it and I need to be able to get the internet at home and the internet is in her and set up through her computer so I really don't have any way of being the one to just go in and fix it myself.
Is there any other way to make Airport recognize that there are two different networks with the same way so it will find mine?  I feel like I have tried everything including mannually typing in the name of my network and typing my password and it still just says "invalid password."  I have also double checked that I was typing in the correct password and I am.  My room mate is not having any problems accessing the Internet so I know the problem is not with our connection (she also has a Mac, almost the same model as me, I have a MacBook Pro purchased in 2011).  I am also able to connect to the Internet on my Mac at coffee shops and the library so I know that the problem is not my computer or my wireless connection so I'm pretty sure it is just that Airport is somehow only recognizing one of the two "WLAN" networks
    Any help???!

Hi - you can do what you want to do with AirPlay from your iPhone - but unfortunately it is not as easy as the people in the Apple store told you - your first problem is that you have a non Apple router - you cannot extend a non Apple router wirelessly with the Express - you can only join the network and connect an ethernet device to it - you can however connect via ethernet and have it create a wireless network of its' own - you can set this up from your iPhone or the XP - but this is a complicated setup and would involve many different discussion areas of this forum - therefore I would suggest that you use your 90 days of support and consult directly with Apple to do this - go to this link - http://www.apple.com/support/contact/

  • Suddenly our windows 7 clients can't connect to our wireless network due to a cert error?

Our company uses a Ruckus setup for our wireless network.  The laptops have to have a certificate on them issued from our CA and be a member of AD group.  Yesterday we noticed that nobody could connect to the internal wireless network.  In

  • Can I set up a local network without being connected to internet?

Can I set up a local network with Airport without being connected to internet?

Yes. Your AirPort Express router, by default, will create an unsecured wireless network and does not need to be connected to the Internet to do so. Local clients can then connect to this wireless network and be able to "see" each other.

  • Suppress Finder's "Cant Find Network Volume" Message @ Login Time

I manage 200 Mac desktops and laptops - all running Leopard. I manage the Macs with Open Directory via MCX policies using Workgroup Manager. One of the main things I manage for my users is Login Items. For example, various SMB network volumes get mounted at login time. When a Mac user is on the LAN and able to access the domain and file servers, the SMB volumes get mounted "automatically" via MCX computer and group policies. The mounts are mounted in /Volumes and appear on the user's Desktop. This is great for desktop users with static Ethernet connections, but for laptop user this poses a major problem which could easily be "fixed' by Apple. Let me explain:
When mobile users (laptop users) are off the LAN (i.e.; they are on the road, working from home, etc) the Mac attempts to find the SMB network volumes that are read part of the locally cached MCX policies when the user(s) log in. Of course, since the user isn't on the LAN (or connected via VPN,etc) Finder throws a generic error "The network volume could not be found"). This message is easily dismissed, and isnt a big deal if it only pops up once, but my users have SEVERAL SMB mounts configured as login items, and thus my users get prompted with the aforementioned Finder error messages several times. Each message stacks up top of the other as each connection attempt times out. Ouch! This has become the #1 complaint my Mac users have and it has reached the ears of senior IT managers and directors. Keep in mind most of my laptop users travel the planet on lecture tours and are on the road for weeks at a time, and thus they deal with the Finder messages several times a day for weeks on end (and sometimes in front of an audience if the said laptop is connected to a projector for a Keynote/PowerPoint presentation etc). The message provides no useful info. My users are savvy enough to know the auto-mounted network shares aren't available - they dont need "help" from Finder.app. They want to log in and get to work, and not be bothered by the barrage of redundant errors from Finder for 10 minutes!
I have attempted to design an AppleScript that could "intercept" the Finder messages and dismiss them automatically, but it hasnt worked thus far. I have also researched autofs and other Apple technologies to figure out a way to avoid these errors. No luck.
    Request:
I would like to request a way to set the preference to have these messages ignored/bypassed or disabled. A simple check box to avoid these messages is all I want.
I submitted a bug report to Apple requesting a "fix" (ticket 6172962).

Two suggestions. 1) post AppleScript queries to its forum under OS X Technologies. 2) post server queries to the appropriate server forum.

  • OS pre-instaled CM12 Client, but it can not automatically find site after joining Domain

    Background:
we update sccm 2007 to sccm 2012 r2
For New PC, the OS pre-installed with our image by PC Vendor. The image has sccm 2012 client. So when users get the new pc, we only need to join the domain.
After joining the domain, 2012 client will never automatic locate the site code base on AD.
    I do some testing.
Install client in the domain pc with parameter SMSSITECODE=AUTO, the site code can be located
Install client in the workgroup pc firstly, the join the domain. Client will never automatic locate the site code base on AD
But If I  click Find Site in the Advanced tab of the Configuration Manager Properties in
the Control Panel. The site code can be located.

I'm going to guess you're running 2007 and 2012 side by side, in which case you need to look at your boundary groups.  In 2007 you simply had boundaries, in 2012 if you don't make boundary groups and assign boundaries and site site assignment to said
    group nothing will happen.
If you have upgraded your infrastructure completely to 2012 but haven't upgraded all of your clients yet ... what you should be seeing is the opposite:  2007 clients wont check into 2012 unless you enable automatic client upgrade.  Then there's
if you have overlapping site codes between the two systems.
    Better detail See:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682060.aspx
    Assignment scenario
    Assignment outcome
You have used automatic site assignment and your System Center 2012 Configuration Manager boundaries overlap with Configuration Manager 2007 boundaries.
The client automatically tries to find a System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site.
The client first checks Active Directory Domain Services and if it finds a System Center 2012 Configuration Manager site published, site assignment succeeds. If this is not successful
(for example, the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager sites is not published or the computer is a workgroup client), the client then checks for site information from its assigned management point.
    Note
You can assign a management point to the client during client installation by using the Client.msi property SMSMP=<server_name>.
If both these methods fail, site assignment fails and you must manually assign the client.
You have assigned the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager client by using a specific site code rather than automatic site assignment, and mistakenly specified a site code for a Configuration
    Manager 2007 site.
Site assignment fails and you must manually reassign the client to a System Center 2012 Configuration Manage

  • DA Client can't be resolved internally

    Hi There
I have a Direct Access 2012 R2 setup, and all the clients are working fine but we can't seem to resolve them internally.
On a DC if I try and ping one of the live DA clients it won't resolve but a nslookup returns its IPv6 address.
    ping cis-00021
Ping request could not find host cis-00021. Please check the name and try again.
    nslookup cis-00021
    Server:  csl-svr-dc1.ad.capricorn.com.au
    Address:  10.3.205.250
    Name:    cis-00021.ad.capricorn.com.au
    Addresses:  2002:67f8:534:1000:9df0:d3a4:3799:7d9a
              2001:0:9d38:6ab8:2c42:31:fe6e:df9

    Hi,
That's normal. This appearance is expected.
First, ping uses IPv4 by default. When you try to ping cis-00021.ad.capricorn.com.au, the DNS resolver tries to resolve the cis-00021.ad.capricorn.com.au into an IPv4 address.(Look for A record for it) But there is no A record for cis-00021.ad.capricorn.com.au,
therefore, the system returns "Ping request could not find host cis-00021. Please check the name and try again."
Second, even you use "ping -6 cis-00021.ad.capricorn.com.au", the system will only return "Time out". According to the nslookup information, your internal network is IPv4, that means the DirectAccess uses NAT64.
Like the NAT, NAT64 will hide the internal network(The IPv6 network). That means the DirectAccess client can access intranet, but the machine from the intranet can't access the DirectAccess client.

  • Client can map a network drive but programs can't browse to it

Greetings.  I have Windows Server 2012 Essentials and this problem has come and gone and come back again but I'm not sure what the solution is:
I have shares on the server.
The client (Windows 8.1) can open the shared folder as a "Mapped Network Drive".  Explorer can open it, browse, modify.  However, Quickbooks can't browse to the drive on the client.  It does not "see" it. Neither can Firefox.
This is on more than one client.  What I did on the client is added the folder as a "Network location" and this does allow the programs to see the share.  But I would like to know how to make mapped network drives stable and reliable.  If
anyone has any insights, please let me know.  Thanks.
    Felix

    Hi Felix,
Please navigate to the Network location and select this map network drive. Right click it and select Properties.
In Properties panel, please select Security tab and check if you assign related permission correctly.
Based on your description, I understand this issue just occurred in those third-party applications (such as
QuickBooks and so on). So, I find following solution in the QuickBooks website. Please check if can help you to solve this issue.
QuickBooks does not recognized the mapped
    network drive

  • 10.5.8 iCal clients can't see additional Wiki Calendars

We just implemented a company wide iCal Server solution on 10.6.3 server (although just updated to 10.6.4 with no difference).
Most of our clients are 10.5.8 (iCal 3.0.8 - 1287). We've setup about 4 or 5 wikis, each with calendars and setup each user's iCal with additional CalDAV accounts for each Wiki Calendar, with URLs in the form of
    http://server.example.com:8008/principals/_uids_/wiki-<wikiname>/
Now, within each Wiki/Group Calendar account, there might be multiple calendars. It seems that 10.5.8 clients can only see events in ONE of these calendars, whereas 10.6.x clients can see everything! User credentials seem irrelevant, it's just down to the OS/iCal version.
At first, I thought it might just be the primary calendar (/calendars/_uids_/wiki-<wikiname>/calendar) as opposed to the secondary ones (/calendars/_uids_/wiki-<wikiname>/87263455-a895-dfg3-23456789). However, even that is not the case. I can't seem to find any pattern to dictate why some show and some don't.
Now these 10.5.8 users can create events in the calendar whose events they can't see, but then others can't see those events. I've dug around in /Library/CalendarServer but I can't seem to find anything about event level ACLs. Am I misunderstanding how this should work? Is this a limitation of 10.5.8 iCal? Is anyone else experiencing this?

I'll just add that when users view the calendars via the web, all events show up perfectly.

  • How many clients can connect to Topic?

I've just read through the jms tutorial and it seems to be ment to losely couple parts of a big systems. (delivery -> factory -> order)
I'm in the process of beginning a application which has the following structure:
One client sends a message to the server, the server sends this message to one or more clients. (in jms: sender sends message to topic, topic sends message to receiver).
Now the client which receive the message from the server isn't part of a system, it's actual a person who sits behind his/her computer and finds the messages interesting.
My question is about how many clients can "watch" the topic for messages? Are we talking about 50, 100, 500 or 1000 or maybe 10.000 ?

    Jan,
I do not think that there is a forced limit for as long as your hardware can sustain.
It also probably depends from MQ vendor to vendor, and their JMS implementations.
In one of my apps 10,000 subscribers was the practical celing due to the memory limitations. (On Solaris 8, 2 GB shared memory)
In another that used open source JMS celing was much lower. due to its underlying EJB implementation (Linux).
I would suggest a clean box test. Benchmarking, stress and load testing you middleware is always a good idea. It will give you a good idea what your app can and can not do.

    Hi abapers,
I am using IDES ecc6.0 in 810 client i am not finding in t.code we81->'new entry' option in application tool bar?

I have 10.7.1 and when I try to update, it says all updates are completed.
Will I be able to update ever?  I find it odd many people have 7.2 but I can't get it.
Also I've updated everything on my ipad2 and it also does not have any icons with icloud on them.
    Uggh.

  • Why can't I find the color profile info in the library ?

Why can’t I find the color profile info in the library ?
It’s sometimes necessary to convert to sRGB for some applications ( internet, some beamers in clubs,…).
I convert them but afterwards it is nice to have the possibility to check this out and should be possible in lightroom, the info is present why not showing it ( it is not so easy to go in finder and look at it in info for every image)?
Since I’m always working in Adobe profile for printing and so this is important to know !
But no trace of it anywhere….
    Thx for any reply.

The disconnect here is many (including me) don't reimport rendered JPEGs
into our Lightroom Catalogs. Why you are doing that is beyond me. You
have the original and can recreate any rendered file at any time.
Storing the derivative JPEGs is redundant, creates additional confusion
and serves little real purpose. Exported versions are considered
    discarable by many.
Yes, understand what you're meaning. but the fact is that I started rather recently with lightroom. So my images where classified in directory's and subdirectory's...already.
I think that this is the major problem. This is always a problem when you step in a new system.
Let's say I am going to submit to a photographic society, I have an Export
preset created that exports to proper size and color space for
projection. It creates a file. I send it to the club. Then I delete it.
Why save it? I can recreate it. Then I don't have to manage it, search
for it, or worse yet, risk confusion with my original file or othe
    resultant derivatives.
The fact that I like to keep them is
indeed an inborn result of the "pré-lightroom period". A bad habitude
indeed. I'm thinking now of deleting them, will maybe better. On the other side
I still have them just for me in order to know which ones I used and when.
    Another bad habitude.
    But
since I'm not a professional photographer I'm mostly confronted with the time
issue and it is for me easier to take existing files ready for use...
    ( doesn't mean you’re not confronted
    with this problem
Today place for jpeg's is rather easy since the Gb's are almost free...
Same is true of a client photo. They want an 8x10. I go to the retouched
original, create a JPEG from an 8x10 preset in the proper dimensions and color space. Send it to the lab. Then, I can delete it.
One of the strengths of Lightroom is that it creates many fewer
intermediate file versions along the way toward final creation. Another
strength is that you can save (via snapshots in Develop) your
derivatives, export, and discard them without having to create, import
and manage additional files on disk. In the old days of just Photoshop
you might end up with a dozen or more files on your disk for every
worked file. With Lightroom, you only need one or two.
Will look deeper in your proposed workflow...and yes I'm comming from the old days.
That said, if you want to keep the derivatives for purposes down the road,
that is up to you but I don't understand why they need to be inserted
    into your catalog.
Since my catalog is made in the time
from before lightroom I’m still having all these directory's and
    subdirectory's...
    Easier
for me since even with back-ups of the catalogue still afraid for crashes. And
I keep liking these directory structure because for the moment it's lighrtroom
and tomorrow it can be another program, you never know. It's like a website, "on line versoin only", big problem when a firm at some moment stop to provide this possibility.
I think I will try to go deeper in "how to use lightroom better..."
    thanks
    Edward De Bruyn
