Parse .txt file

I have a .txt file that logs data every 1 min for certain elements and would like to parse the text file to show only every 5mins to the user. I have attached the txt file and the VI I'm working on with this question.
For example the text file shows for ECG Rate: ECGRATE$<UNIT=/min>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:37:18><VALUE=44>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:38:19><VALUE=44>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:39:18><VALUE=47>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:40:18><VALUE=45>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:41:19><VALUE=43>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:42:18><VALUE=42>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:43:19><VALUE=44>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:44:18><VALUE=46>&<TIME=2014-01-28T09:45:18>
I would like to display the current value on the front panel only every five mins.
Bonus would be in addition to the above would be plot all values on a graph also, but lets start with the first step.

  • Writing scripts to edit or parse txt file How To?

    Not sure if this is the correct forum for programming type question. If not someone point me in the right direction?
    I'm a programming student and I'd like to teach myself some scripting skills over the summer break.
    In particular, I've got a txt file I'd like to split into three txt files. A google calendar file that I'd like to divide into three separate calendars.
    I know what strings I want to put where. My problem is what scripting language am I trying to use? Applescript? Something else?
    Any suggestions or ideas? Recommendations on reading materials or sample scripts I should look at?
    Thanks for the help.

    Perl is a huge programming language. A more expedient project would be to learn some basic shell commands such as sed, awk, tr and cut. The sed command is optimized for linewise operations, awk is optimized for columnwise operations and tr is a basic character translation tool especially useful when feeding Mac files into a UNIX command.
    Setting up sed and awk commands to read and write files is a big part of learning, especially since shell commands cannot normally write to a file in situ.
    Applescript is not ideal for text manipulation as it is slow, uses a bulky delimiter system and has irritating file access limitations. However it can be a powerful interface for the above mention shell commands. Applescript offers an ideal way to assemble shell commands with user-input variables. Of course, shell commands cannot be interactive with Applescript, so you learn to do incremental operations on text files.
    Another handy use for Applescript is to send your command to Terminal, which makes an ideal output display.

  • Parse contents of folder of txt files

    I tried to do this in Automator, but whatever I did didn't work:
    I have a folder with about 80 short text files (quotations, if you must know) and I wanted to make a spreadsheet or database where each cell/field was the contents of one of the text files.
    Is there some way to accomplish this without individually opening each .txt file, copying the contents, and then pasting into the appropriate spreadsheet cell ?

    This may be stupidly trivial.
    Assuming you want each quotation in a new row in the spreadsheet you can do this with a oneliner:
    cat *.txt > quotes.txt
    This will combine the contents of all .txt files in the current directory into a new file called quotes.txt (use cd to get to the appropriate directory first). Once there you can open the quotes.txt file in your spreadsheet application. Violà:
    open -a Microsoft\ Excel quotes.txt

  • A better way to search a string in a 3GB txt file

    I am looking for a string(12 characters) in a 3GB txt file. I use the file reader to go though each line and use the startwith() (that 12 characters are from the beginning of each line) to check if that line contain the string I am searching for. Is there a faster way to do it? Thank's.

    I would avoid using java to parse/search a 3 GB text file at all costs. Any java solution is going to have terrible performance and you may run into memory problems. I would recomend that you either a) develop a native method for resolving this search and just invoke it from your current java class or b) use Runtime.exec to invoke a native OS command for searching the file (like grep or find) and parse the results. ....
    I'm not even sure how I would complete that task with java exclusivly ... maybe break the file into smaller parts, then iterate through each smaller, temporary file ... I would really recomend storing your data in a different format if possible. A 3 GB text file just isn't very partical or secure.
    ... oh, to answer your original question (which I'm not sure if I all ready did), the fatest way to load the file is to wrap it into some BufferedReader. The fatest way to perform String searches is through the java.util.regex package if you have access to the 1.4 API. Other wise, just use basic String searches, as you all ready are.

  • How to retrieve IndividualStrings from a txt file using String Tokenizer.

    hello can any one help me to retrieve the individual strings from a txt file using string tokenizer or some thing like that.
    the data in my txt file looks like this way.
    Data1;
    abc; cder; efu; frg;
    abc1; cder2; efu3; frg4;
    Data2
    sdfabc; sdfcder; hvhefu; fgfrg;
    uhfhabc; gffjcder; yugefu; hhfufrg;
    Data3
    val1; val2; val3; val4; val5; val6;
    val1; val2; val3; val4; val5; val6;
    val1; val2; val3; val4; val5; val6;
    val1; val2; val3; val4; val5; val6;
    i need to read the data as an individual strings and i need to pass those values to diffarent labels,the dat in Data3 i have to read those values and add to an table datamodel as 6 columns and rows depends on the data.
    i try to retrieve data using buffered reader and inputstream reader,but only the way i am retrieving data as an big string of entire line ,i tried with stringtokenizer but some how i was failed to retrive the data in a way i want,any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hmmm... looks like the file format isn't even very consistent... why the semicolon after Data1 but not after Data2 or Data3??
    Your algorithm is reading character-by-character, and most of the time it's easier to let a StringTokenizer or StreamTokenizer do the work of lexical analysis and let you focus on the parsing.
    I am also going to assume your format is very rigid. E.g. section Data1 will ALWAYS come before section Data2, which will come before section Data3, etc... and you might even make the assumption there can never be a Data4, 5, 6, etc... (this is why its nice to have some exact specification, like a grammar, so you know exactly what is and is not allowed.) I will also assume that the section names will always be the same, namely "DataX" where X is a decimal digit.
    I tend to like to use StreamTokenizer for this sort of thing, but the additional power and flexibility it gives comes at the price of a steeper learning curve (and it's a little buggy too). So I will ignore this class and focus on StringTokenizer.
    I would suggest something like this general framework:
    //make a BufferedReader up here...
    do
      String line = myBufferedReader.readLine();
      if (line!=null && line.trim().length()>0)
        line = line.trim();
        //do some processing on the line
    while (line!=null);So what processing to do inside the if statement?
    Well, you can recognize the DataX lines easily enough - just do something like a line.startsWith("Data") and check that the last char is a digit... you can even ignore the digit if you know the sections come in a certain order (simplifying assumptions can simplify the code).
    Once you figure out which section you're in, you can parse the succeeding lines appropriately. You might instantiate a StringTokenizer, i.e. StringTokenizer strtok = new StringTokenizer(line, ";, "); and then read out the tokens into some Collection, based on the section #. E.g.
    strtok = new StringTokenizer(line, ";, ");
    if (sectionNo==0)
      //read the tokens into the Labels1 collection
    else if (sectionNo==1)
      //read the tokens into the Labels2 collection
    else //sectionNo must be 2
      //create a new line in your table model and populate it with the token values...
    }I don't think the delimiters are necessary if you are using end-of-line's as delimiters (which is implicit in the fact that you are reading the text out line-by-line). So the original file format you listed looks fine (except you might want to get rid of that rogue semicolon).
    Good luck.

  • Populate a table reading the data from a TXT file

    how can I populate a table reading the data from a TXT file?
    thanks

    Hey Kevin!
    Using FORMS.TEXT_IO to bulk load data from a file strikes me as re-inventing the wheel. It is just about justifiable in a self-service environment, but I regard the EXTERNAL TABLE is a better solution for that situation as well.
    The same applies to UTL_FILE. I think the ability to read text with UTL_FILE is primarily intended for read file-based configuration or file manipulation/processing rather than data loading.
    Re-writing a text file into SQL statements is too much like hard work (even with an editor that supports macro definition and regular expressions) for no real benefit. You lose all the bulk load peformance you would get from SQL*Loader. But for QAD I'd probably let you off with it.
    You missed out one obvious alternative: using Java to turn the contents of an XML file into a CLOB and inserting it into a table which is read by a PL/SQL procedure that parses the XML records and insert the retrieved data into a table.
    Stay lucky, APC

  • Problem when I upload txt files to the server

    Hi, I have a problem when I try to upload files to the server, and I can't understand the fail.
    My case is:
    I have a jsp page where a from is.
    This form is sended to a servlet that proccess its content and upload the attach file to the server.
    It works correctly (it uploads the files, txt, xls and csv), the problem is when I try to upload a txt file like this, for example:
    Depth     Age
    0     0,1
    2     0,9
    3     2
    5     6
    6     9
    8     12
    34     25
    56     39
    101     40When I verify the uploaded file, this one has a character extra of return of line (a small square). This character prevents me from working then correctly with the file, on having detected a column of more.
    Which can be the problem?
    The code I use to uploaded the file is:
    try
        MyConnection Objconnection = new MyConnection();
        boolean isMultipart = FileUpload.isMultipartContent(req);
        // Create a factory for disk-based file items
        FileItemFactory factory = new DiskFileItemFactory();
         // Create a new file upload handler
        ServletFileUpload upload = new ServletFileUpload(factory);
        // Set overall request size constraint
        upload.setSizeMax(1024*512); //524288 Bytes (512 KB)
         // Parse the request
        List items = upload.parseRequest(req);
        // Process the uploaded items
        Iterator iter = items.iterator();
        String dat = new String();
        String typeFile = new String();

            int numbers=0;
            for(int i=fileName.length();(i=fileName.lastIndexOf('\\',i-1))>=0;)
                 numbers++;
            String stringFile[] = fileName.split("\\\\");
            HttpSession session = req.getSession(true);
            String loginSesion = (String)session.getAttribute("UserLogin");
            String newUserFolder = loginSesion;
            File createFile = new File("/usr/local/tomcat/webapps/Usuarios/FilesUp/"+newUserFolder);
            if ("AgeModel".equals(typeFile))
                createFile = new File("/usr/local/tomcat/webapps/Usuarios/FilesUp/AgeModels/"+newUserFolder);
            if (!createFile.exists())
                createFile.mkdir();
            fileName = stringFile[numbers];
            File uploadedFile = new File("/usr/local/tomcat/webapps/Usuarios/FilesUp/"+newUserFolder+"/"+fileName);
            if ("AgeModel".equals(typeFile) )

    ...THANKS

    Hi,
    Sorry I am aware this question was posted way back, but I am having similar problem and haven't been able to find the fix yet.
    So please let me known if you have got any ideas.
    My problem is same that I have to upload a CSV file from Client Machine (Windows) to Unix Application Server.
    I am using JSP method post and multipart/form-data (as in http://www.roseindia.net/jsp/file_upload/Sinle_upload.xhtml.shtml).
    The file is uploaded fine but the problem is it displays carraige Return (^M) a square boxes on Unix file.
    I can't ask user to convert file to Unox format before uploading. They just convert excel file to CSV and upload.
    Is there any way I can get rid of these characters as I have to use this file further.
    Sorry, I can't use any paid utility or tool for it.
    I would appreciate if you could please help.
    Thanks,
    SW

  • How to store the datas in a .txt file in to a JTable in Java Swing

    Hi sir,
    Here i want to know how to store the data's of a .txt file
    in to a JTable in java swing.
    Where here the .txt file like for eg,spooler.txt is in the server and from there it will come to my client machine what i have to do is to take that .txt file and store the datas of the .txt file
    in a JTable.This is what i want.So pls. do help and provide the code as well.I will be thankful.Since i am involved in a project which involves this it is Urgent.
    Thanx,
    m.ananthu

    You can't just display data from a text file in a JTable. You have you understand the structure of the data so that you can parse the data and create a table model that can access the data in a row/column format. Here is an example of a simple program that does this:

  • Server Side Includes for Apache and parsing text files

    I have an old website I used to do zipped up and I decided to set it up on my personal webserver in OS X . I got apache configured to allow server side includes (edited the httpd.conf to all them:
    <Directory />
    Options FollowSymLinks Indexes MultiViews Includes
    AllowOverride None
    </Directory>
    But I can't get the pages to come up. See I have this .shtml page which loads fine and a part of it has this line:
    <!--#include file="news/news.txt" -->
    But it won't parse that txt file and show the html that its formatted in.
    Anyone have any ideas on how to get it to parse that txt file? Even if I load just that txt file it shows raw code not it formatted. Please help.

    Ignore that first reply. I thought I was dealing with server.
    As usual, I fogot to make sure that Includes was in the Options directive for the DOCUMENT_ROOT or VirtualHost. After 10 years, you'd think I'd remember that. I just configged one of my macs to do SSI. Here's the 3 lines that I changed:
    Line 399 (the DOCUMENT_ROOT definition): Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews Includes
    Line 887 (To use server parsed HTML): AddType text/html .shtml
    Line 888: AddHandler server-parsed .shtml
    apachectl restart
    and off it went!

  • How to save the time to a .txt file and retrive it back as time?

    I have to save the time [hour:minute:second] and the date [date:month:year] to a .txt file. I am using the Calendar API to set the time and date as below
    FileOutputStream fileStream = new FileOutputStream ("what.txt");
    PrintWriter pw=new PrintWriter(fileStream, true);
    Calendar curDate = Calendar.getInstance();
    System.out.print(curDate.get(Calendar.DATE)+":");
    System.out.print(months[curDate.get(Calendar.MONTH)]+":");
    System.out.print(curDate.get(Calendar.YEAR));
    pw.println(curDate);
    I'll have to retrive these data back to use it to set timer
    timer = new Timer();
    timer.schedule(new RemindTask(), time);
    I try to retrive the data and use the Calendar API to that data by using the below program.
    I get the error as :
    C:\t\Retrivedate.java:41: int cannot be dereferenced
    System.out.print(t.get(Calendar.DATE)+":");
    How can I solve this so that I can use Calendar API on my retrived data?
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import java.lang.*;
    class Test {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    try {
    File inputFile = new File("what.txt");
    FileReader in = new FileReader("what.txt");
    int t;
    char[] tmp = new char[100];
    int cnt = in.read(tmp);
    String tm="";
    for (int j=0;j<cnt;j++)
    { tm+=tmp[j];
    try {
    t=Integer.parseInt(tm,10);
    catch (NumberFormatException exception) {}
    System.out.println("jika "+tm);
    Calendar curDate = Calendar.getInstance();
    String months[]={
    "Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr",
    "May","June","July","Aug",
    "Sept","Oct","Nov","Dec"};
    Date time1 = curDate.getTime();
    System.out.print(" \n"+time1.getHours());
    System.out.print(":"+time1.getMinutes());
    System.out.println(":"+time1.getSeconds());
    System.out.print(t.get(Calendar.DATE)+":");
    System.out.print(months[t.get(Calendar.MONTH)]+":");
    System.out.print(t.get(Calendar.YEAR));
    in.close(); }
    catch (IOException ex) {
    System.out.println("IOException:"+ex.toString()); }

    These lines do not make sense:
    System.out.print(t.get(Calendar.DATE)+":");
    System.out.print(months[t.get(Calendar.MONTH)]+":");
    System.out.print(t.get(Calendar.YEAR));
    1. t is an integer, it does not have any methods.
    2. It's a bad idea to use char[] to retrive the date. You should use readLine() method to retrieve the whole date string, say "10/23/2001" (certainly you can have hours, minutes, seconds, etc.). Then you need to use SimpleDateFormat class to parse this string. SimpleDateFormat gives you everything to parse a date string in any format you want.

  • Checking .txt file with valid XML tags

    hey guys,
    I've a .txt file which conatins info with XML tags. I've to check whether the file contains valid tags or not!
    a tag should start with "<" and end with ">", there shouldn't be space between characters after "<" e.g.
    a tag should be like "<name>" or "</name>" not "< name>" or  "< /name>" nor "<name" or "</name"nor "name>" or  "/name>"Here is an example of a well formed XML document:
    <root>
    Some text <nextTag> more text  <secondTag> stuff </secondTag> </nextTag> more text again
    </root>Here is an example of XML .txt file:
    <students >
         <student>
              <name> John </name>
              <name> Doe </name>
              <address> 98 Pine St.</address>
         </stdnt>
    </students>I also have to make sure that no text appears before and after the root tag! Please help me, i'm trying to figure out but my alogrithm just doesn't work! Thanks in advance!!!

    What's the purpose of those requirements? If you
    wanted to check whether the file was well-formed XML
    then you would just need to run it through an XML
    parser. But some of the things you plan to reject are
    actually well-formed XML. I don't see the point of
    that.basically, it's my assignment. In the assignment our task is to check the .txt files to make sure that all XML tags are valid. The problems i mentioned in my first post, i've figured those out, eventually. There're few other things which i've to also make sure for example no text appearing before and after the root tag
    Can someone please tell me how i can check following cases:
    text<root> or </root> text  (both are invalid XML files)

  • Upload .txt file into Database Table

    Hi,
    I was wondering if someone could please point me in the right direction. I've been looking around the forum but can't find anything to help me achieve the following.
    I would like to be able to upload a .txt file using a webpage. Then store the information inside this file into database tables.
    eg. contents of mytextfile.txt:
    richard
    10 anywhere street, anytown, somewhere
    111 222 333 444
    joe
    9 somestreet, elsewhere
    999 888 777 666
    peter
    214 nearby lane, overhere
    555 555 555 555
    I would like to insert this data into a table.
    eg. table name = CONTACTS
    userid = primary key (using sequence)
    username = (line 1 - richard, joe, peter)
    address = (line 2)
    phone_no = (line 3)
    As you can see the records will appear 1 at a time and will have a blank line between records. Is there anyway for me to upload a file like this and have it placed into tables?
    I have seen http://otn.oracle.com/products/database/htmldb/howtos/howto_file_upload.html but this seems to be for uploading a whole file and downloading the same file, rather than extracting data from the file.
    I hope I have managed to explain my problem.
    Many thanks,
    Richard.

    Richard,
    HTML DB allows you to upload CSV files via the Data Workshop. That data would then be parsed and inserted into a specific table. Alternatively, if you have your data in an Excel spreadsheet, and it is less than 32k, you can copy & paste the data directly into HTML DB's Data Workshop, which will then parse and import it into the Oracle database.
    The one obstacle you may have to overcome is converting your data from the format you outlined to CSV format. Specifically, you would have to make this:
    richard
    10 anywhere street, anytown, somewhere
    111 222 333 444
    Look something like this:
    "richard","10 anywhere street, anytown, somewhere","111 222 333 444"
    Hope this helps,
    - Scott -

  • Idoc to txt file to mail

    Hello everyone,
    I have the following scenario:
    IDOC -> XI -> Mail w/ .txt attach with fields of IDOC separated by ';'
    How can i "concatenate" all fields into one text file and then send this in an attachment via email ?
                       Thank you in advance,

    Hi Nuno
    What you can do here is
    1. parse IDOC XML into a flat file using UDF or Java mapping and pass it to a string. use the mail package and map this string field to Content field of mail package. Now at mail adapter use Mail package with attachment.
    2. You write a mail adapter module to parse the file and attach it to mail.
    3. Use the StrictXMLtoPlain Bean at receiver mail adapter to parse IDOC XML into a flat file and then use MessageTransformBean to attach it to the mail
    Using Mail package usage will allow dynamic mail message.
    Thanks
    Gaurav

  • Powershell script to get list of softwares installed as shown in registry on all the remote systems in a txt file

    Hi
    I need to know the command for getting list of softwares installed on all the remote systems in network  which are existing in their respective registry like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE of all other systems

    Hey
    Sorry this isn't powershell but it should do the job if you want to use it. The problem with using the Win32_Product WMI Class to enumerate the installed software (especially on Windows 2000 & 2003 Servers) is that the WMI class is NOT installed by default. Here is a VBScript i wrote to read a list of hostnames from a text file named "ComputerNames.txt" from the scripts directory and attempt to remotely enumerate all subkeys within the following registry key
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    For each subkey enumerated it will attempt to read the value of the "DisplayName" key and output the results to a csv file.
    (the results should be the same as what you would see when you open Add/Remove Programs)
    Hope that helps
    Cheers
    Matt :)
