Passing bash arguments and variables

Ok, so I've been staring at this script for the past hour with no avail. Basically, I want to pass arguments to a C program I wrote, both with arguments of the bash script and variables calculated in the bash script. For some reason it's not working, here's the script where it is right now:
#!/bin/bash
# Wrapper script for finding modes, outputting data as Frequency vs Amplitude
NUMPOS=$(cat $1 | awk '/^position/' | wc -l)
LINES=$[$(cat $1 | wc -l)-5-$NUMPOS]
NUMFREQ=$[$LINES/$NUMPOS]
mkdir split_$1
cp -t split_$1 drumdata $1
cd split_$1
./drumdata $1 $NUMPOS $NUMFREQ
rm drumdata $1
This gives me the error: ./getModes.sh: line 19: 26946 Segmentation fault      ./drumdata $1 $NUMPOS $NUMFREQ
So I tried a different method with array variables
#!/bin/bash
# Wrapper script for finding modes, outputting data as Frequency vs Amplitude
NUMPOS=$(cat $1 | awk '/^position/' | wc -l)
LINES=$[$(cat $1 | wc -l)-5-$NUMPOS]
NUMFREQ=$[$LINES/$NUMPOS]
args[0]=$1
args[1]=$NUMPOS
args[2]=$NUMFREQ
mkdir split_$1
cp -t split_$1 drumdata $1
cd split_$1
./drumdata ${args[@]}
rm drumdata $1
Which gives me the error: ./testModes: line 22:  7945 Segmentation fault      ./drumdata "${args[@]}"
Which makes me want to cry because I wrote a script to test array variable behavior:
File Edit Options Buffers Tools Sh-Script Help
#!/bin/bash
args[0]=test
args[1]=getModes.sh
args[2]=drumdata.c
cp -t asdf ${args[@]}
And it works . Why aren't my variables being evaluated?

  • How to add arguments and switches to AUT

    Hi,
    Usually when I start my AUT from terminal, I will use command like for example
    $ ./appname.bin
    This is internally called from RCPTT when it calls AUT. But some times I have to pass some arguments and switches. How shall I do that? Take for example the following,
    $ ./appname.bin -data @NoDefault
    How can call my AUT using these parameters or arguments and switches?
    Kindly let me know.
    Thanks

    Hi Ulyana,
    I am not clear about what that link is about to say and I am not able to get my desired output using that. I don't want to pass VM arguments. I want to pass a Runtime Configuration argument which changes the behaviour of my application when I pass -data @noDefault while calling it.
    For example:
    When I call it "./appname.bin it opens normaly with an already default workspace
    When I call it "./appname.bin -data @noDefault" it will not take any default workspace and will ask me for choosing an workspace
    Hi Matias,
    I can do that, but I want to do this only for one particular test case and not for the entire AUT.
    Kindly let me know how to solve this.
    Thank you all

  • Passing an argument in the SQL Query of a View Object

    Hi,
    It is possible that this question has been asked before, however I have searched for a half an hour in the forums and couldn't find a solution.
    I am also new to using JDeveloper and ADF. Here's the situation:
    I am developing an application that doesn't have to do anything else then displaying data from a database. Pretty straightforward actually.
    Now I have made a vew pages with several collapsible panels (af:showDetailHeader) and have setup the datasources (or so I thought).
    All that remains is:
    - drag & drop a view object, from the application module that I created, onto the collabsible panels, so a child element gets created which displays data from the database.
    - hack the layout so it looks like I want it to.
    The problem that I have is the following:
    I am using a 'User'-class that contains values I need when quering the database.
    That User-object is part of a user-session.
    What I want, for example, is to use the 'getPersonId()' function of that User-object and pass the argument to a SQL-query of a certain view-object.
    The query would become something like:
    'SELECT * FROM people WHERE people.personId = :someNumber'.
    Now I've read some stuff about variable binding, which is complemented by something like (backing bean code):
    getDBTransaction().getRootApplicationModule().getACertainViewObject().setWhereClauseParameter(1, user.getPersonId());
    The examples I have found that might match my wishes are not using business components, but EJB's. I am having difficulty with understanding the 'how'-part of variable binding.
    Also, I do not know enough of ADF to be able to create a situation like:
    'User loads page, collapsible panel 1 is fully shown, the others are undisclosed.'
    (meaning, that for panel1 a query has been executed.)
    'User clicks on collapsible panel 2 which triggers a backingbean that somehow retrieves data from a view object'.
    I would appreciate any help that somebody can give.
    If it is not too much of a problem, please provide code snippets in case you have a solution. I am new to ADF :(.
    -edit
    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.0 in case that is of any importance.

    Hello Stijn,
    I didn't think about a referenced bean rule in the faces-config.
    I added it right away and I am now able to set parameters of a View-object, not using a page button and before the page loads. You made my day!
    In case anyone ever reads this post again, the summary of how to generate a table based on a View-object using dynamic parameters.:
    1a: Go to faces-config.xml -> Overview tab'
    1b: Go to the menuitem "Referenced Beans"
    1c: Click on 'new' and select the existing bean you want to access data from and input a name. In this example I use name="user"
    2: Create a View-object using the wizard.
    2a: Specify the query you want in the menuitem 'SQL Statement'.
    Add the 'parameters' you want to. You will have something like:
    "SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE :someArgument".
    - hint: if you want the result to become something like:
    "SELECT * FROM someTable WHERE table.columnname LIKE '%someArgument%'" then you have to add the '%'-characters in your code itself (read: someClass.setParameter("%" + someArgument);).
    2b: In the menuitem 'Bind Variables' you have to add the variables you are referring to in the query. If you look at the query in 2a, then you have to add a variable with name "someArgument".
    2c: Add the View-object to a Application Module (create one if nessecairy).
    3a: Open a .jsp(x) file. Drag the View-object created in step 2 from the 'Data Controls'-pane to the page.
    3b: Click on the '+' of the View-object in the 'Data Controls'-pane and open 'Operations' and drag 'ExecuteWithParams' to your page as a button.
    3c: We do not want to use a button, the action has to be executed immediatly. So In the page source remove the lines that were created after dropping 'ExecuteWithParams'.
    3d: Right-click on the page and select "Go to Page Definition".
    3e: Go to the action id that is called 'ExecuteWithParams#', where # is a number.
    Change the id to something useful.
    3f: Change the NDValue so it corresponds with the value you want.
    Example:
    <action id="getAddressData" IterBinding="AddressesView1Iterator"
    InstanceName="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl.AddressView1"
    DataControl="MyHRServiceModuleDataControl" RequiresUpdateModel="true" Action="95">
    <NamedData NDName="someArgument" NDType="java.lang.String"
    NDValue="#{user.personId}"/>
    </action>
    Note: It is possible to use the value of a Backing Bean in NDValue.
    Note 2: user is the bean I referred to in the faces-config.xml!
    3g: Under the executables item, add an 'invokeAction' to pass the parameter to the View-object before your JSP-file loads:
    <executables>
    <invokeAction Binds="getAddressData"
    id="loadAddressDataOfPersonIdInSession"
    Refresh="prepareModel"/>
    Thank Stijn Haus for this :)

    My String
    My String
    How this is possible when objects are passed by reference ?

    > How this is possible when objects are passed by reference ?
    All parameters to methods are passed "by value." In other words, values of parameter variables in a method are copies of the values the invoker specified as arguments. If you pass a double to a method, its parameter is a copy of whatever value was being passed as an argument, and the method can change its parameter's value without affecting values in the code that invoked the method. For example:
    class PassByValue {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            double one = 1.0;
            System.out.println("before: one = " + one);
            halveIt(one);
            System.out.println("after: one = " + one);
        public static void halveIt(double arg) {
            arg /= 2.0;     // divide arg by two
            System.out.println("halved: arg = " + arg);
    }The following output illustrates that the value of arg inside halveIt is divided by two without affecting the value of the variable one in main:before: one = 1.0
    halved: arg = 0.5
    after: one = 1.0You should note that when the parameter is an object reference, the object reference -- not the object itself -- is what is passed "by value." Thus, you can change which object a parameter refers to inside the method without affecting the reference that was passed. But if you change any fields of the object or invoke methods that change the object's state, the object is changed for every part of the program that holds a reference to it. Here is an example to show the distinction:
    class PassRef {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Body sirius = new Body("Sirius", null);
            System.out.println("before: " + sirius);
            commonName(sirius);
            System.out.println("after:  " + sirius);
        public static void commonName(Body bodyRef) {
            bodyRef.name = "Dog Star";
            bodyRef = null;
    }This program produces the following output: before: 0 (Sirius)
    after:  0 (Dog Star)Notice that the contents of the object have been modified with a name change, while the variable sirius still refers to the Body object even though the method commonName changed the value of its bodyRef parameter variable to null. This requires some explanation.
    The following diagram shows the state of the variables just after main invokes commonName:
    main()            |              |
        sirius------->| idNum: 0     |
                      | name --------+------>"Sirius"
    commonName()----->| orbits: null |
        bodyRef       |______________|At this point, the two variables sirius (in main) and bodyRef (in commonName) both refer to the same underlying object. When commonName changes the field bodyRef.name, the name is changed in the underlying object that the two variables share. When commonName changes the value of bodyRef to null, only the value of the bodyRef variable is changed; the value of sirius remains unchanged because the parameter bodyRef is a pass-by-value copy of sirius. Inside the method commonName, all you are changing is the value in the parameter variable bodyRef, just as all you changed in halveIt was the value in the parameter variable arg. If changing bodyRef affected the value of sirius in main, the "after" line would say "null". However, the variable bodyRef in commonName and the variable sirius in main both refer to the same underlying object, so the change made inside commonName is visible through the reference sirius.
    Some people will say incorrectly that objects are passed "by reference." In programming language design, the term pass by reference properly means that when an argument is passed to a function, the invoked function gets a reference to the original value, not a copy of its value. If the function modifies its parameter, the value in the calling code will be changed because the argument and parameter use the same slot in memory. If the Java programming language actually had pass-by-reference parameters, there would be a way to declare halveIt so that the preceding code would modify the value of one, or so that commonName could change the variable sirius to null. This is not possible. The Java programming language does not pass objects by reference; it passes object references by value. Because two copies of the same reference refer to the same actual object, changes made through one reference variable are visible through the other. There is exactly one parameter passing mode -- pass by value -- and that helps keep things simple.

  • "Boolean" arguments and mutability

    Hi All,
    I've come across an issue passing Boolean arguments into methods. Basically the problem is that the method needs to take Boolean values and then return those values, as well as other values. i.e:
    public SomeClass myMethod(Boolean bool1, Boolean bool2){ ... }
    The problem is that because Booleans are immutable, it's not possible to change their value inside the method. Also, since the method is already returning a value it's not really feasible to return an array of arguments. I could potentially put all of the arguments in an object array / collection or something ugly like that but that seems like a fairly poor solution. At the moment the best option seems like coding a mutable version of Boolean.
    My question is - is there a better way to accomplish this? If not, should the java language be modified to support mutable Booleans either by changing 'Boolean' or by adding a new class?

    Maybe, but you could then argue that for any object that's passed as an argument. I'm not sure that's a valid reason not for the functionality to exist.
    Also, since the method is already returning a value it's not really feasible to return an array of arguments. I could potentially put all of the arguments in an object array / collection or something ugly like that but that seems like a fairly poor solution. At the moment the best option seems like coding a mutable version of Boolean.This doesn't make any sense. If you need to return a bunch of things, you create a class to hold these things. If the booleans within your return object need to be different, then you create new boolean variables within your method and add those to the returning object. By the way, why are you using Booleans here and not booleans? Is there a definite need for the wrapper object and not the primative?Yes, creating a class with the return values is also an option. Still a bit kludgy though as I wouldn't use it for anything else.
    My question is - is there a better way to accomplish this? If not, should the java language be modified to support mutable Booleans either by changing 'Boolean' or by adding a new class?I think you may need to rethink your basic program design. You can start by telling us what you are trying to accomplish here in a general, non-programmatic sense.Well, the gist is that there's a method that's comparing objects in two collections. The return value is the result of that comparison. There are two boolean values which are passed to the method, and they are used to say whether to iterate forward to the next entry in each collection. I'm happy to rethink the design, so long as it doesn't require much rework (since the method already works and breaking it would be a bad thing)

  • How do I create a 1d array that takes a single calculation and insert the result into the first row and then the next calculation the next time the loop passes that point and puts the results in thsecond row and so on until the loop is exited.

I need to have all results displayed and keep building the array(display until, the end of the test)Eventually I will have to include a min max section that displays the min and max values calculated, but that should be easy with the min max function.Actually I thought this should have been easy but, I gues I can not see the forest through the trees. I didn't really have time to dig in and understand your program in depth,
    but I have a few tips for you that might things a bit easier:
    - You use local variables excessively which really complicates things. Try
    not to use them and it will make your life easier.
    - If you flowchart the design (very similar to a dataflow diagram, keep in
    mind!) you want to gather data, calculate a value from that data, store the
    calculation in an array, and loop while the time is in a certain range. So
    theres really not much need for a sequence as long as you get rid of the
    local variables (sequences also complicate things)
    - You loop again if timepassed+1 is still less than some constant. Rather
    than messing with locals it seems so much easier to use a shiftregister (if
    absolutely necessary) or in this case base it upon the number of iterations
    of the loop. In this case it looks like "time passed" is the same thing as
    the number of loop iterations, but I didn't check closely. There's an i
    terminal in your whileloop to read for the number of iterations.
    - After having simplified your design by eliminating unnecessary sequence
    and local variables, you should be able to draw out the labview diagram.
    Don't try to use the "insert into array" vis since theres no need. Each
    iteration of your loop calculates a number which goes into the next position
    of the array right? Pass your result outside the loop, and enable indexing
    on the terminal so Labview automatically generates the array for you. If
    your calculation is a function of previous data, then use a shift register
    to keep previous values around.
    I wish you luck. Post again if you have any questions. Without a more
    detailed understanding of your task at hand it's kind of hard to post actual
    code suggestions for you.

  • Passing value to bind variable of another table from one table

    hi,
    I have a multi select table. When one row is selected from this table (no button is clicked, only selection is done), an attribute from that selected row (say userid) should be passed to the bind variable of another table and the corresponding details of that particular userid should be displayed in the other table. When more than one row is selected, the other table should display no rows.
    My main problem is what code has to be written to pass value to bind variable and where it should be written.
    Please give me a detailed explaination as soon as possible.
    Thank you.

    Sorry, didnot add this. The table is multi select table.

    Work Around !
    You can execute OS commands using Jython script. Probably you need to flush your enviornment variables value into a file using jython script and then read those value into ODI variable from the file.
    BUt may I know why you want to read environment variable vaules in ODI, Dont you think this will make your application less portable

  • Calling a function on an object passed as argument

    Hi everyone,
    i'm trying to call an actionscript function on an object passed as argument to a c function. Here are how I do :
    I have a class named test_class implemented as
    package
         public class test_class
              public var bliblou:int;
    and a C function that have to modify the bliblou var of an test_class object passed as argument. Here is my function :
    static AS3_Val test_obj_param( void* self, AS3_Val args )
         AS3_Val obj;
         AS3_ArrayValue( args, "AS3ValType ", &obj );
         AS3_Set( obj, AS3_String("bliblou"), AS3_Int( 123456 ) );
         return AS3_Null();
    Then I call the function in my actionscript main function like this :
    var loader:CLibInit = new CLibInit;
    var lib:Object = loader.init();
    var test:test_class = new test_class();
    lib.test_obj_param( test );
    But when the test_obj_param is trying to run, I obtain an error saying "unable to access a propriety of a null object".
    What am I doing wrong ? Is it possible to do what I try to (calling a function on an object passed as argument) ?
    Thanks in advance

    After a long trip to Alchemy possibilities and a lot of tests I have finally found a solution to my question.
    Instead of using AS3ArrayValue to get my objet, I use the AS3 function shift on the args array to get my object. Here is how I do
    static AS3_Val test_obj_param( void* self, AS3_Val args )
         AS3_Val emptyParams = AS3_Array("");
         AS3_Val obj = AS3_CallS( "shift", args, emptyParams );
         AS3_SetS( obj, "bliblou", AS3_Int( 123456 ) );
         AS3_Release(emptyParams);
         return AS3_NULL();
    Maybe there is a bug in the AS3ValType getter.

  • How to pass an argument to a standalone java class in JDeveloper

    To the experienced:
    In JDeveloper when you write a java class with a main() method that takes no argument, you just right click the java file and select Run to run the program. What I want to know is how to pass the arguments when invoking FormatTerm within JDeveloper (i.e., without going out of JDeveloper to invoke FormatTerm on a command line in DOS). I would appreciate it very much if you know how to do that in JDeveloper 11g (I use Version 11.1.1.3) and could help me out.
    Thank you very much for your help!

  • Problem with entity passed as argument

    Hello !
    I have this code :
    Public Class myclass
    Private cont As MyentEntities
    Public Sub New( ByRef cnx As MyentEntities)
    cont = cnx
    End Sub
    Public Sub test
    If cont.mytable1.Count=1 then
    end if
    End Sub
    End class
    'On my main form :
    Dim E1 as MyEntEntities
    Dim m1 as myclass
    Private Sub MainForm_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
    E1=New MyentEntities
    m1=new MyClass(E1)
    End Sub
    Private sub fill_entity
    E1.MyTable1.Tolist
    End sub
    Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    m1.test
    End Sub
    When I click the button , I get an error :
    ....the entity of type 'MyTable1'  does not exist in the context.
    But I passed E1 with ByRef ?
    What's wrong ?
    Thank you !

    Hello,
    >>Problem with entity passed as argument
    With your provided code, I tested with my database, it is ok, below is the test demo which is similar with yours except the used databse:
    Public Class Form1
    Dim E1 As DFDBEntities
    Dim m1 As TestClass
    Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
    E1 = New DFDBEntities
    m1 = New TestClass(E1)
    End Sub
    Private Sub fill_entity()
    E1.Orders.Tolist()
    End Sub
    Private Sub Button1_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    m1.test()
    End Sub
    End Class
    Public Class TestClass
    Private cont As DFDBEntities
    Public Sub New(ByRef cnx As DFDBEntities)
    cont = cnx
    End Sub
    Public Sub test()
    If cont.Orders.Count = 1 Then
    End If
    End Sub
    End Class
    Since we do not know your exact table structure, it is hard to know why this exception is thrown in your side, one reason I know is the .edmx file is not mapped correctly, you could check this link which describes various possibilities for the
    caused reason of this exception:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5634392/ef-4-1-code-first-error-the-entity-type-sometype-is-not-part-of-the-model-for
    Or you could provide information as what database you are using, the table you are working with and the Entity Framework version.
    Regards.

  • Can the output of a Generate Occurrence be passed in Local/Global Variable?

    Can the output of a Generate Occurrence function, which is a refnum, be passed in Local/Global Variable so that it does not need to be wired to all parties directly?
    Can more than one party be waiting on the same Occurrence and will all waiting function be released together?

    I am not worried about whether it is bad form or not, as yet. That is for me to decide on a case by case basis.
    Yikes! That is not a very good way to learn.
    Anyways, to avoid any more bold emphasis on words, I will answer your question. Locals can only be linked to controls/indicators not individual wires. If you want to get the effect of a local/global variable with a wire value, search the forum for action engines or functional globals. Those will work for passing a wire value between threads.
    That said, what are you trying to use occurences for? There may be (and probably is) a more accepted way to implement what you are trying to do instead of using local variables
