Passing Credentials to Reporting Services from a iframe in a web part within Sharepoint

Okay, So I am trying to pass windows authentication from sharepoint into a tab withing a webpart that loads reporting services. Right now the users log into Sharepoint and when they click on the reporting tab within a webpart they are prompted to login again. I can't pass session variables because the reporting services is outside of the webpart and is being hosted within an Iframe. I don’t know if it is possible to impersonate or store the login credentials from Sharepoint temporally and send it to the Reporting Services log in prompt. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same question here.  I have a page viewer web part looing at a SRS report.  I don't want to have to maintain security in both SP and SRS

  • Upgrade Sharepoint 2010 SQL Reporting Services from 2008 R2 to 2014

I'm about to do the upgrade of SharePoint 2010 Reporting Services from 2008 R2 to 2014.  The instructions say it can be done "in-place" with no downtime.  I've seen this article:
    http://whitepages.unlimitedviz.com/2012/03/upgrading-sql-server-reporting-services-to-2012-in-sharepoint-integrated-mode/
It covers 2012 so I assume the same holds true for 2014.
I'd like to get the low down from anyone who has actually performed the upgrade of SSRS from 2008 R2 to 2014.  Anyone done this upgrade?  Any issues?
    David Jenkins

So far I would have to say that the upgrade can be done "in-place" but there is a "DOWNTIME".
This article has helped a lot:
    http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/tlingenfelder/archive/2012/07/10/upgrading-sql-server-reporting-services-2008-r2-to-sql-server-reporting-services-2012-in-sharepoint.aspx
In the article it tells you about a bug in the SQL Upgrade process where
the Domain account you use will not work. When you type in the password it fails. On top of that it will lock the Domain account because of a bad password!  There is probably something wrong with the authentication process and it garbles the password.
Anyway, you end up having to change the account to the "Network Service" account before you can do the upgrade.  This means the services get restarted which means???
DOWN TIME!  He goes over other errors.  I haven't reviewed these issues yet.
The other thing I learned is that everything needs to be SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 in order to upgrade.  You don't find this out until almost the last step in the installation process.
Now I have to wait until next week to actually do the upgrade because I have to schedule an SP2 install.  :(

  • Can i use Report viewer web part in SharePoint 2013 app to show SSRS reports?

Can i use Report viewer web part in SharePoint 2013 app to show SSRS reports?

SharePoint app you mean a simple sharePoint 2013 application like site, team site etc, or do you mean an App (the new feature like webPart).
To add a SSRS Report viewver web part follow these steps
    1. Edit the page
    2. Choose insert a webpart
3.Select SQL server Reporting -> SQL Server Reporting Services Report Viewer webpart
    4. Configure the webpart to show your .rdl files.

  • Trying to install features for PowerPivot and Reporting Services from SQL Server 2012 with SP2, but no access to key?

    Hi,
I had installed SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot on WFE and App Server. This is test farm with 1 WFE and 1 APP and 1 SQL Server.
However, we had a heap of issues with Windows Claims Authentication and PowerPivot - issues were raised with "unable to make a connection to EntityDataSource" . Now we uninstalled the PowerPivot and Reporting Services features and wanted to install
with the SQL Server 2012 with SP2. Originally SP2 was installed seperately and we had read there had been issues.
Anyway on trying to install the features again using the SQL Server 2012 with SP2 iso I get
    Could not open key UNKNOWN\Components
I don't want to start deleting or changing permissions as quite dodgey. What is this key for anyway and how do I resolve my issue.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
Did you meet the error message during the process of configuring the PowerPivot for SharePoint?
If yes, I suppose that the existing features or components have not been uninstalled completely.
I recommend to delete the two keys left when uninstalling the PowerPivot and please make a copy of the registry keys before you delete the two keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServiceProxy
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServicea
Please check the steps in the link below to see if there anything wrong when you uninstalling the PowerPivot and then re-install it to see how it works:

  • Calling a Web Service from R/3 4.7 (Web AS 6.20)

    Hello,
I would need to call a SOAP Web Service from an R/3 ABAP Transaction. In particular, by clicking on a button a should get a set of data coming from an external Java application exposing a web service for that. I also have XI 3.0 in the middle. What is the best scenario I could implement? Thanks a lot. Luigi

    Hi!!!
I would do this scenario as a synchronous one:
    [SAP R/3][ABAP proxy objects] <-> [XI]<->[SOAP Adapter]<--->[external java app]
In your ABAP transaction you will have to execute ABAP proxy method to send a message to XI. If it's not your transaction, you can use user-exit.
BTW, I have an experience with XI 2.0, not with 3.0, so I used a XI 2.0 terminology.

  • Creating Web Service from R/3 system in Web AS

I'm trying to find out how to create a Web Service from a BAPI running on an R/3 System and have the Web Service hosted on Web AS.  Is there anything in the SAP Developer Studio which facilitates this.  I've looked into the enterprise connectivity perspective and been able to generate java from the BAPI's.  (when this process occurs, a message during the process states that a WSDL is generated.  Where is it located?) The xx_PortType class that is generated is not availible for a web service because the input and output types that are gen'd for it are not serializable.  Not to be lazy but I could code a frontend and gen a web service from that, but I'm suprised that I can't find anything in the tooling to do this for me.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thx in advance...

  • Setting Credentials in Reporting Services

I am using SSRS 2005 and importing a report that runs fine in Visual Studio 2005 into an existing 3rd party Windows based software, part of which provides reporting functions already in use.  the third party software, as well as VS 2005 are on a Windows Server 2003 machine. After importing to the 3rd party software the error below occurs.
"An attempt was made to set credentials for a data source 'Manitou' associated with the report. Report data source settings are specified in a way that prevents credentials from being submitted to the report server."
One issue that causes this problem is if the XML document I am importing has an entry of "Integrated Security = true"  However, the last three files I have imported trying to get this report to work do not have this entry, but I am still receiving this error.
What are some other causes for this error?

I have solved the error ""An attempt was made to set credentials for a data source 'Manitou' associated with the report. Report data source settings are specified in a way that prevents credentials from being submitted to the report server."
The problem was that there was a line in the .rdl file like <DataSourceReference>database name here</DataSourceReference>
This is apparently not sufficient for Report Server authentication.  I found a working existing report that had
    <ConnectionProperties>
            <DataProvider>SQL</DataProvider>
            <ConnectString>Data Source=Server Name Here;Initial Catalog=database naem here</ConnectString>
          </ConnectionProperties>
in the file.  I added this and removed the   "DataSourceReference" line, imported and it worked.

  • Passing Parameters via Post Method from Webdynpro Java to a web application

    Hello Experts,
I want to pass few parameters from a web dynpro application to an external web application.
In order to achieve this, I am referring to the below thread:
    HTTP Post
As mentioned in the thread, I am trying to create an additional Suspend Plug parameter (besides 'Url' of type String) with name 'postParams' and of type Map.
But when I build my DC, I am getting the same error which most of the people in the thread have mentioned:
Controller XXXCompInterfaceView [Suspend]: Outbound plug (of type 'Suspend') 'Suspend' may have at most two parameters: 'Url' of type 'string' and 'postParams' of type 'Map'.
I am using SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Version: 7.01.00
Kindly suggest if this is the NWDS version issue or is it something else that I am missing out.
Also, if it is the NWDS version issue please let me know the NWDS version that I can use to avoid this error.
Any other suggestion/alternative approach to pass the parameters via POST method from webdynpro java to an external web application apart from the one which is mentioned in the above thread is most welcome.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

    Hi,
This is purely a java approach, even you can try this for your requirement.
There are two types of http calls synchronous call or Asynchronous call. So you have to choose the way to pass parameters in post method based on the http call.
if it is synchronous means, collect all the values from users/parameters using UI element eg: form and pass all the values via form to the next page is nothing but your web application url.
If it is Asynchronous  means, write a http client in java and integrate the same with your custom code and you can find an option for sending parameters in post method.
here you go and find the way to implement Asynchronous  scenario,

  • Reporting services instance not able to connect from SSMS

    Hi All,,
I have installed SQL SERVER 2012 on Windows 8.1. I configured report server in native mode.
      * Reporting services is in started state
      * SQl server service is in started state
      * Sql serevr agent is in started state
      * SQL browser is in started state
When i tried to connect Report server instance using SSMS i got the below error.
    TITLE: Connect to Server
    Cannot connect to .
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Unable to connect to the server at . The specified URL might not be valid or there might be a problem with the report server version or configuration. Specify a different URL, or contact your server administrator to verify that the report server runs SQL Server
2008 or later. Additionally, if you are trying to connect to a SharePoint-integrated report server, verify that SharePoint is installed on the server and that the report server uses SharePoint integrated mode. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)
    BUTTONS:
    OK
When i connect using http://localhost/reportserver I am getting below error
The permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation.
    Though i am the administrator
And when i connect using below URL http://localhost/reports
I get Unable to connect to the remote server
Please suggest your input on the problem

    Hi Khushi N,
According to your description, you are administrator, when you tried to connect reporting services from SSMS, the error message occurred. When you tried to access report manager with the URL:
http://localhost/reportserver, you were prompted that the permissions granted to user '' are insufficient for performing this operation.
The Reporting Services error rsAccessedDenied occurs when a user does not have permission to perform an action. To troubleshooting this issue, please make sure that you have sufficient permission and the report server name is correct. You can use the reportserver
URL, e.g. HTTP ://<servername>/ReportServer, to log on the reporting service in SSMS.
In addition, by default, we could not access all of the report server properties available in SQL Server Management Studio unless we start Management Studio with administrative privileges. To configure Reporting Services role properties and role assignments
so you do not need to start Management Studio with elevated permissions each time, please refer to the following document:
From the Start menu, click All Programs, click SQL Server 2012, right-click Management Studio, and then click Run as administrator.
Connect to your local Reporting Services server.
In the Security node, click System Roles.
Right-click System Administrator and then click Properties.
In the System Role Properties page, select View report server properties. Select any other properties you want associated with members of the system administrators role.
    Click OK.
    Close Management Studio
The issue may be caused by the UAC or Internet Explorer security setting, please try to follow this steps:
    1. Open the Internet options of the IE and add the report server URL into trusted site in the Security tab.
    2. Run the IE as administrator.
For more information about Configuring a Native Mode Report Server for Local Administration, please refer to the following document:

  • SQL Server Reporting Service 2008 R2 - The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

I got the error "The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized." when I call the Reporting Service Web Service.
    The code is very simple:
// Initialise the reporting service Web Service
    this.RSWebService = new ReportingService2010();
// Pass windos authentication credentials to Web Service
    this.RSWebService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
    // List children
    List<CatalogItem> reports = this.RSWebService.ListChildren(folder, false).ToList();
The SQL Server is installed on a different machine (say server A) from the Web server (say server B). We are using Windows Server 2003.
The code work fine for all the scenario below:
    i) Run locally (XP) to call the web service on the sql server
ii) Provide the Network Credentials with the username, password, and domain when calling the web service
iii) If the web server and sql server is using same server (i.e. not distributed)
I'm using windows authentication and impersonation. Any idea?

    Hi Raymond,
If I understand correctly, the issue only happens in the environment that the web server is different with the SQL Server Reporting Services server. This means the web server is a remote server of the Report Server. Windows Integrated authentication is used
in this case. When running the web page, the 401 error occurs.
If so, it is actually a double hop issue. The double-hop problem will usually only be an issue to those of you who write some sort of web-based code (a web application or web service) that uses impersonation.
To fix the issue, we can configure kerberos authentication for the web application and the SQL Server Reporting Services.
Below is a great article that has delivered many solutions to fix the issue you met:
    http://odetocode.com/articles/216.aspx
Additionally, you can read the following article to know more about double-hop:

Thanks Jin. I believe this is the cause of the problem as well.
I tried to register the SPN but unfortunately it still doesn't work. I'm not sure whether I'm using the correct SPN name.
I have 3 reporting server instance on the SQL box. So the Web Service URL is like
    http://Server:80/VirtualDirectoryDev,
    http://Server:80/VirtualDirectoryTest  and
    http://Server:80/VirtualDirectoryStaging .
What's the SPN I need to register?
    I tried
    Setspn -a http/Server:80/VirtualDirectoryDev domain\account
    and
    Setspn -a http/aerver:80 domain\account.
But both of them are not working :(

  • Reporting Services Point - possibly permissions issue

I'm having a really hard time configuring a working reporting services point in my test SCCM 2012 R2 environment and was hoping someone might be able to help me work out what's gone wrong.
My servers are WS2008 R2.  SQL Server 2008 R2 is installed on the primary site server and holds the site database.  I installed SSRS onto a separate site server and added it as a reporting services point.  This worked, and I see the list of
reports in the SCCM admin console.  However, when I try to run a report - either from the console or via web browser - I get this message:
The default value expression for the report parameter 'usertokensids' contains an error.  There are no logon servers available to service the logon request. (rsRuntimeErrorInExpression)

    SMSAdminUI.log shows this message:
[25, PID:3096][06/12/2014 11:24:05] :[fqdnofprimaryserver] : The request failed with HTTP status 503: Server Error.
Now, the reason I think this is a permissions issue is because srsrp.log on the Reporting Point server shows this:
(!) Error retrieving folders - [Login failed for user 'domain\reportingservercomputername$'.].
(I've removed the actual name here, obviously.)
I'm really puzzled about what's going on here, what is trying to authenticate with the SSRS server's machine credentials, and what for.  Looking in SQL Server Management Studio on the primary site server which hosts the SQL database, I can see that
the account has a login listed and it has its default schema listed as DBO.  On the SSRS server, in Reporting Services Configuration Manager, the Report Server Service Account is set to a dedicated domain user account.  The Current Report Server
Database Credential is set to my own Windows login using Current User - Integrated Security - I can't seem to get it to accept the dedicated user account.
Can anyone help me figure out what's gone wrong and how I fix it, please?  I'm by no means a SQL person, and I'm at my wit's end with this!
    Thanks,
    M

    The plot thickens.
    The SSRS server has these:
"The report server has detected a possible denial of service attack. The report server is dropping requests for service from the IP address 192.168.113.163" (this is the IP address of the primary site system, which hosts the SQL database)
    and then
"Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database"
The primary site system, meanwhile, has got thousands of these:
"Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\SSRSSERVERNAME$'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: 192.168.113.164]" (that's the IP of the SSRS server)
The Windows firewall is off for both systems.  They're on an isolated test network.  I still don't understand where the setting is that tells it to make SQL queries using the SSRS server's machine account, rather than the dedicated service account
    I created.
Any more ideas?  Thanks for your help so far - I really appreciate it!

  • 10g Report service.

    hi,
I am unable to restart 10g report service. My report server is hanging most of the time. I am using spreadsheet in reports. if the report data is big the report service hangs.
I tried to restart the report service from the Application server, but i could not.
i have even tried the Below command. but i am getting Rep-0238 authentication failed. please help.

    ormal authid=system/<pass>

locate your report_service_name.conf file under $ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf directory and set engine parameters as follows:
    initEngine
    Default: 1
The number of engines you want Reports Server to start at initialization.
The server process will spawn this many engines when it is started.
    maxEngine
    Default: 1
The maximum number of this type of engine that can run on the server at any time. The server process will attempt to keep no more than this many engines active. Ensure that you have sufficient memory and resources available to accommodate these many engines.
Recommendations : Per CPU you can have a maximum of 4 engines running. (For multi core -dual / quad core, etc - please refer to Note:738920.1)
    minEngine
    Default: 0
The minimum number of this type of engine that is maintained by the server at all times. The server process will attempt to keep at least this many engines active. This should not be more that the initEngine value, it may be less than or equal to initEngine.
Recommendations : If the workload is very steady and generally keeps the engines busy all the time, the minengine and maxengines values should be close together e.g within a difference of one to three engines.
If the workload is intermittent, not constant or consistent, lower the minengine (and possibly initengine too) value, especially if the host machine is running other applications besides Oracle Reports.
    engLife
    Default: 50
The number of jobs the engine can run before the engine is terminated, and, if necessary, a new engine is started. This feature is available to thwart memory leaks.
Setting engLife="1" will recycle engines after each job they run, but this will also lead to performance issues since for each submitted job, the server will start the engine first and then run the job. Whereas, a large value for engLife can cause the runtime engine to use up enough memory to cause a crash.
    maxIdle
    Default: 30
The number of minutes of allowable idle time before the engine is shut down, provided the current number of engines is higher than minEngine. For example, if minEngine is 0, maxIdle is 30, and one engine has been running but unused for 30 minutes, that engine will shut down. If, under the same conditions, minEngine is 1, the active engine will not shut down, even if it has been idle for 30 minutes.
There is a bug (internal) in this, which states: all idle engines shutdown after maxidle is reached and then specified number are restarted to honour minengine.
    callbackTimeOut
    Default: 60000
The number of milliseconds of allowable waiting time between when the server launches an engine and the engine calls the server back. If the engine does not respond by this time, the reports server assumes the engine got hung or otherwise failed to completely initialize, and if the engine process is still present when this times out, the reports server will kill it and try again.
Recommendations : If the machine that hosts the server is very fast, you can reduce this number for faster performance. Server will wait for time specified for the engines to connect to it, and then it will shut itself down if they fail to do so. A common error occuring in this scenario is :
    "REP-56097 Engine callback timed out"
In case of this error, callbacktimeout value should be increased.
you need to restart the reports service after any modification
