Password protect fields in interactive pdf

Hi all,
I have completed an interactive pdf online form and I want to make one of the sections (several fields) password protected. So two questions:
How do you password protect fields?
Do you have to apply password protection to each individual field or can you highlight a section (several fields) and password protect the whole section?
Would really appreciate some help.
Thanks so much. . .

Many thanks George for your helpful advice. It is appreciated.

  • Password protecting part of a PDF

    Hi
Is it possible to password protect part of a PDF, namely two radio buttons so that only those who have the authority can indicate a pass or fail on a form submission. Also if the form is emailed to the Assessor as an attachment is this restricted to 500 times (the form would be sent to the assessor for checking then marked and emailed as an attachment back to the submitter)?
Very many thanks for any help.

    Hi George
Many thanks for your helpful answer. The form doesn't need to be very secure, so if you feel able to point me to the script, I would be very grateful.
Regarding distribution, the job is for a student assignments. The form consists of a series of questions with spaces for students to type in their answers. The completed form is then saved and emailed to the assessor to mark as pass or fail then returned to the student. So it's the two radio buttons I want to protect so only the assessor can select them.
I don't know how many copies of the assignment forms might be distributed - anything from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand, if the project took off. The assignments would only be used as attachments.
    Regards and thanks,
    Derek

  • Password protecting and encrypting received pdf file

    Hello there,
how can I password protect (and encrypt) a pdf file that I received from someone else? For example, I may get a copy of my tax return from my accountant that I don't want anyone else to see on my computer or when I back up contents of my computer online.
I have only Adobe Reader 8 installed on my computer. So I am not writing these pdf files myself - I realize that then I would have full control over the security settings.
Microsoft Word and Excel files I can password protect. How can I do this for "received pdf files"?
    Thank you for your help.

    You need Acrobat, not Reader.
Be aware that even then, PDF security is easy to bypass.
I use a Mac for the most part but isn't there any features in Windows that will allow you to protect folders?

  • End user have ability to change font style in text field of interactive pdf form?

Does the end user of an interactive pdf form able to change the font style, i.e.: make something bold or underline a word in a text field?
I am making a form with text fields and the end user would like the ability to make something bold or underline it.. I do not see anywhere in acrobat that allows styles to be changed.
I have created the form in Indesign > saved it as an interactive pdf and brought it into Acrobat.

Thank you for the quick response! Do you set this in Indesign before exporting or do you set this in Acrobat? I am in Acrobat 10.1.10 and when I go to properties it doesn't give me  'options' to choose from.

  • Dynamically  Visibilty of Input Field in Interactive PDF Form

    Hi All,
I want to bind the visibilty of Input Field dynamically in an Interactive PDF Form. How can I do ?
    Please give me some solution
    Regards
    Manish

    Manish,
Well select the inputfield & check the Scripting Window in your Designer.
On its top, you will see an option something as Show: Events with Scripts.
Select the initialize event and insert the code she mentioned. Then click on + sign. This will enter your changes.
There will be language option on top as well. Select JavaScript from it.
So in the end your code should read something like this.
    ----- data.<YourFormName>.txtInput::initialize: - (JavaScript, client) ----------------------------------
    txtInput.presence = "invisible";

  • Password protected fields

    hi gurus,
is it possible to make some fields password protected in adobe form?
we want to use this in offline forms.

    Thanks for the reply, George!  (My apologies - this reply is not formatting correctly).  For the one text field I'm testing, I've placed the code in the Actions>Mouse Up>Execute a Menu Item>Run a JavaScript. Does that seem correct? It sounded like buttons and bookmarks were another way to go, but I had more trouble building those features.  The field is currently marked as Read-only but it's not "locked". The field is named "sign.name", so I updated the original code (where I believed I needed to). I also updated the password.  This is the exact entire code I've placed in the "...JavaScript" action:  (function () {       // Get one of the fields in the group     var f = getField("sign.name");       // Determine new readonly state, which     // is the opposite of the current state     var readonly = !f.readonly;       var readonly_desc = readonly ? "deactivate" : "activate";       // Ask user for password     var resp = app.response({         cQuestion: "To " + readonly_desc + " the fields, enter the password:",         cTitle: "Enter password",         bPassword: true,         cLabel: "Password"     });       switch (resp) {       case "OIE2014": // Your password goes here         getField("sign").readonly = readonly;         app.alert("The fields are now " + readonly_desc + "d.", 3);         break;       case null : // User pressed Cancel button         break;       default : // Incorrect password         app.alert("Incorrect password.", 1);         break; }   })();

  • Adding password protection to a modified PDF file in iOS Reader 10.3

Is there a way to add a password to a PDF file that was modified from an unprotected PDF original, using the free iOS version of Reader, without having to buy a third-party app?
On that note, can you protect a subfolder within the Documents folder without leaving the app?

    No.

  • Do InDesign table fields convert to form fields for interactive PDFs?

Does InDesign CC recognize table fields as form fields when creating fillable form PDFs - or do I have to create individual text fields on top of the InDesign table and assign form field text field characteristic in the buttons and forms menu?

I don't believe InDesign itself will apply any form of automated recognition to table cells...BUT...Acrobat's form field recognition certainly picks up empty table cells and assigns them as text-input fields.

  • Distributing Password Protected PDF's via Information Broadcasting

Is it possible to password protect a distributed report (pdf format) using individual Member's unique password?
Then, can we easily administer the (e.g. user-create/e-mail confirmation) the actual passwords?

What about the Java Cryptography Extension framework for PDFs?
    Can NetWeaver support this....
    http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/trunk/pdfencryption.html
    Environment
In order to use PDF encryption, FOP has to be compiled with cryptography support. Currently, only JCE is supported. JCE is part of JDK 1.4. For earlier JDKs, it can be installed separately. The build process automatically detects JCE presence and installs PDF encryption support if possible, otherwise a stub is compiled in.

  • PDF Files are password protected.  I never set a password

There are a lot of pdf files in the document section.  Must be book or magazine pages as they are titled "page101.pdf" and so on with a date underthem.
I tried to open one to see what it was and I got a "password protected" and a box to enter my password.  I never set a password for this app.  I tried using my Adobe password and my google password to no avail.
How can I open them to see what they are?
    Thanks.
    Janet in NJ

The request for a password has absolutely nothing to do with a password for the application or any relationship to your Google password.
The message password protected refers to the PDF file that you are trying to open. Apparently, whoever created the PDF file either a PDF file creation or subsequently password protected the PDF files. You will need to contact whoever supplied those PDF files to you to obtain whatever the password is or passwords are.

  • Won't load interactive pdf

I've tried deleting the app, and downloading again, and it works, sorta, for the first few tries, but then it gets stuck in the loading screen when I try to open another interactive pdf.

Can you send the following information to [email protected]:
    1. the interactive PDF that exhibits this behavior.
    2. expicit instructions or (better, yet) a video describing exactly how you are reproducing this issue.
    3. the device you are using.
    4. the operating system on that device.
    Thanks.

  • HT4641 Does pages have a document password protection function

Does pages have a password protection function since adobe PDF for IPhone3gs or IPad2 does not?

If you were to think laterally about this, you could also create encrypted archives for just those folders or files you were interested in to minimise the possible harm. Similar to the disk images Magnus suggested, but slightly less trouble. Modern Macs are very fast at unarchiving these files so you can work on them then archive them again without too much trouble.
I am a great fan of those tiny USB harddrives and thumbdrives, which easily slip into your pocket so you can take them with you.
My backup consists of a set of three 4Gb USB thumbdrives for my documents and 3 differently colored USB harddrives for my larger material.
If your work is on these, you simply detach them from your computer and keep them locked up or on your person.
Nobody will be able to access those without bailing you up.
… And of course you can use a combination of any and all of the above suggestions.

  • How to batch password protect files without having to click "Save" for each file

    Hi!
I need help. I'm trying to batch password protect a few hundred PDF files. I've setup an action for this, however when I run the action, Acrobat asks me to save each file. Isn't this kind of defeating the purpose of batch processing?
    Adrian

Add a save step at the end.

  • Specifying Question and Answer fields in Response sheet from Pre-existing Interactive PDF

I am creating a new form from an existing interactive pdf, which has text boxes to supply answers. How can I get the response sheet to reflect the questions that are in the pdf? That is how does FormsCentral determine what the question and answer are in a pre-existing interactive pdf that is uploaded? Right now it is either putting the answers in the column next to the question or selecting the wrong heading when users respond and the response sheet is populated.
    Thanks!

I'm not quite sure I understand your issue. FormsCentral create the columns in the Response Table using the field's name in the PDF.
You might want to make sure that the fields are names correctly (using Acrobat) before importing the PDF in FormsCentral.
You can also send your original PDF to [email protected] so that we can try to import it on our side and see what can be wrong. Please add a reference to this forum's thread in your email.

  • Is it possible to create expandable fields in an interactive PDF? (not dropdown menus)

Need to design an interactive PDF that has expandable fields for respondents to include more that one group of answers. Specifically, they will be asked to list all previous employment. Some respondents may have had 10 relevant positions. The form will get too long if I create fields for 10 responses. Hoping to find a way that fields will expand if a respondent needs them.

Not really possible with PDF forms, unless you create an entire page
dedicated to this and allow the user to spawn new copies of it as needed.
