Patching 10.2.0.1 database to timezone file version 4

Hello,
I can't manage upgrading my timezone file to version 4. It's version 2 all the time.
What I have done:
1. downloaded patch p5601428_10201_GENERIC from Metalink.
2. unzipped the patch
3. copied "etc" and "files" directories to $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch.
4. changed directory to $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch and entered "opatch apply".
Nothing changed.
The file is still in version2.
Thanks in advance for any help.

It's Windows, so ls -l doesn't work.

  • Timezone File from 10gr2 to 11gr1

    Hello friends
    I've been reading a lot from 2 weeks about upgrading my database 10.2.0.1.0 to 11.1.
    My OS is Windows 2003 Server R2 Enterprise Edition 32 bits.
    All of the articles mention the need of upgrading timezone file version from 2 to 4(new in 11.1). My db is:
    select * from v$timezone_file;
    FILENAME VERSION
    timezlrg.dat 2
    Perhaps, I've searched a lot and a lot the patch and I could no find it. The metalink says I need to upgrade to version 10.2.0.4, but I still not finding the patch.
    I'm really new to the upgrade proccess and thats why I ask you guys for some help.
    Another question is:
    The notes say I need to upgrade the client as well, but if I connect to 3 db versions, 9i, 10g and the neu updated 11g? Would my data on the older dbs be affected? How to deal with it ?
    Cheers Friends

    I did not find any patch to Windows2003Server SP2 Oracle DB 10.2.0.1.0 32bits.
    Because there are no user data, can I rely on the upgrade without patching the database?
    the imp/exp are not good cause I have almost 1TB of data, 120 users. Would takes a long time.
    Tks you all.

  • Error when installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.

    Hi to all.
    Currently, i am trying to install patches for portal server.
    The server OS is Sun Solaris 8.
    We are using Oracle9iAS.
    Now, we are installing 9.0.1.4.0 patch set for the Oracle Database Server.
    We managed to install the patch, but have problem with the Post Install Action.
    We managed to run
    -ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    -@rdbms/admin/catpatch.sql
    -ALTER SYSTEM DISABLE RESTRICTED SESSION;
    -CONNECT / AS SYSDBA
    -update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
    -commit;
    But, when we come to the next command, which is to shutdown, it gives us like
    this..
    SQL> update obj$ set status=5 where type#=29 and owner#!=0;
    1402 rows updated.
    SQL> commit;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    Database closed.
    Database dismounted.
    ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
    ORA-01219: database not open: queries allowed on fixed tables/views only
    We tried to startup the database..it gives us this error..
    SQL> startup
    ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
    So, we tried to shutdown again..
    SQL> shutdown immediate
    ORA-01089: immediate shutdown in progress - no operations are permitted
    I been informed that this is maybe a Database problem related. Any ideas?
    Best Wishes,
    Rushdan Md Saad.

    Patchsets could be obtained (only) from http://metalink.oracle.com
    You need to have valid CSI for access.

  • 10.2.0.4 patch on single instance standby database

    Hi All,
    We have production database 10.2.0.3 running with RAC having 2 nodes on Solaris 10. We have patched this
    databases to 10.2.0.4 (both nodes) on production without any issue.
    We have a physical standby database (10.2.0.3) with 2 nodes on solaris 10. But we have stopped node2 sometime
    back and currently it's a single instance standby database. Whe nwe are trying to apply patch to standby dataabse
    it's showing both node during installation and installation fails when it tries to search for node2.
    What's the solution for this problem? Any document on how to patch the single instance standby database when
    production is running in RAC.

    I think you are basically saying that you have a 2 node RAC cluster with 1 node down (possibly permanently) and you want to just patch 1 of the nodes?
    It's not overly a surprise the installer is trying to patch the other node, when as far as your inventory is concerned you have a 2 node cluster.
    Have you tried running the installer with the -local option?
    This should just patch your local node. Obviously the dictionary changes will get applied via MRP from the primary db.

  • Installation version 11 timezone files

    Hello!
    According note 883335.1 during downgrade from 11.2 to 10.2
    I must install version 11 timezone files into the directory of $ORACLE_HOME/ORACORE/ZONEINFO on 10.2 database release
    Please explain, how to do this
    Thanks and regards,
    Pavel

    If you have run DBMS_DST package to upgrade the timezone version to a newer one, e.g., version 11 during post-upgrade steps of the 11gR2 upgrade, before you downgrade to your previous database release, you must install version 11 timezone files into the directory of  $ORACLE_HOME/ORACORE/ZONEINFO on your old Oracle database release.
    For patches of new timezone version files on Oracle Database Release 11.1 or older, please refer to metalink  Note. 412160.1 Updated DST transitions and new Time Zones in Oracle Time Zone File patches.I think they clear about timezone .

  • Oracle Client TimeZone Files

    Hi,
    I have several window servers with the Oracle Client installed.
    These servers connect to our Oracle DB server on 2003 windows.
    I want to apply the Jan 2010 CPU patch to the DB and this says it must be version 4 timezone files.
    How do I check the clients timezone files on the other servers to match version 4 of the DB ?
    Thanks,

    listener.ora is must in server
    tnsnames.ora is must in client and in server (if multiple servers are integrated through database by application)
    sqlnet.ora is optional in both client and server (is must if domain naming is used)

    Hi Venkat,
    I think this isn't the best forum to answer your question but I'll try.
    You've lost your DATABASE FILES (means DBF files, control files (CTL), redo logs)? Correct?
    Or did you loose also the Oracle Home where the software has been installed?
    If you've lost your Oracle installation than you might do the following:
    1) Install 8.1.7.0 software on your standby server
    2) Install patch set 8.1.7 4 into this home
    3) Metalink-Note:70233.1 will describe the full process of creating an 8i standby database from your PROD.
    If you use RMAN than please have a look into Metalink-Note:203980.1 and Note:118409.1 - it'll describe also the init.ora parameters necessary for a standby
    You'll find a description of an ideal init.ora for the standby in ML Note:139809.1 and specific for Data Guard 8i here: ML-Note:132991.1
    Kind regards

  • Certification.xml : Patch Metadata is invalid. Upload valid Metadata files.

    Hello all,
    I am using EM 12.1.0.1 wth repository database 11.2.0.1
    To configure offline patching, I am able to upload all the metadata XML files except certifications.xml
    I have downloaded the file from the URL provided in EM itself. When I try to upload it, I get the following message:
    certifications.xml : Patch Metadata is invalid. Upload valid Metadata files.
    I will be grateful if anyone could help.
    Regards

    Hi,
    In some cases i have observed the following case,
    In the metadata upload page while uploading each ARU metadata xml, there are two data validation done in the back end, the latest certification xml contains the string <HTML> so that the "Invalid Metadata" error occurred.
    Verify the certificate xml file and if it was the case, remove all occurrence of the string <HTML> or </HTML> in the downloaded certification xml. This should fix the case.
    Best Regards,
    Venkat

  • Need to apply Version 4 Timezone file

    Hi,
    I am planning to upgrade the Oracle E-Business Suite to 12.1.1 from 12.0.4.I have a database with version 10.2.0.2. I am planning to upgrade it 11.1.0.6.0. for which i ran the Pre-Upgrade Script on the database side and i got a warning like Database is using old version of time zone file(Version 3) and it needs to be updated. So i just went through one Meatlink Doc
    *Applying "version 4" Time Zone Files on an Oracle Database [ID 413671.1]*
    which says i need to apply the Patch 5632264.
    But in the same doc i saw somewhere that we need to check the existing data with utltzuv2.sql.
    Could any of you help me on this.Need your kindly help as i am confused.
    Regards,

    OS: Enterprise Linux 4
    Can we directly upgrade the database from 10.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.I saw in some documents that we need to apply a patch set to upgrade to 10.2.0.4. After applying patch set to upgrade the datbase to 10.2.0.4 i though of upgrading to 11.1.0.6 version as i thought it was the certified version for EBS 12.1.1.
    Can you let me know whether my understanding is correct or not.You can upgrade from 10gR2 to 11.2.0.3 -- Interoperability Notes EBS R12 with Database 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1]

  • Multiple databases in one file: a small snafu

    Hello everyone,
    Opening multiple databases in a single file is an administrative convenience. It is well explained in the manual (see db/docs/ref/am/opensub.html). Normally, there is little difference between databases in their own physical files or grouped together in a single physical file. There is one small sentence in the manual that says the following:
    (begin fragment)
    However, since multiple databases in a file exist in a single physical file, opening two databases in the same file simultaneously requires locking be enabled unless all of the handles are read-only. As the locks for the two databases can only conflict during page allocation, this additional locking is unlikely to affect performance.
    (end fragment).
    I didn't pay attention to it, except the "unlikely to affect performance" part which told me that I wasn't to worry about it. The sun was shining. Life was good.
    And I was wrong. It was one of those "epic bug quests" I had to embark on, only to realise that it may not be a BDB bug, but my carelessnes. Nevertheless, I'm left with an uneasy feeling which I would like to explain here.
    Consider BDB configured as a concurrent data store.
    There are 2 threads. The first thread has the following pseudocode:
    cursor1 = db1->cursor(...)
    while(cursor1->c_get(... DB_NEXT...))
    // 1
    cursor2 = db2->cursor(...)
    while(cursor2->c_get(... DB_NEXT...))
    The second thread does only the following:
    db3->put(...)
    db1, db2 and db3 are all distinct databases. All cursors are read-only (the cursor implicitly used in db3->put is of course a write cursor).
    While the first thread is running, the second thread executes db3->put(...) at "//1".
    Question: what happens?
    Answer 1: if db1, db2 and db3 reside in different physical files, nothing special happens. Everything proceeds as it should.
    Answer 2: if db1, db2 and db3 reside in the same physical file, both threads block "sometimes".
    The "sometimes" used here means "when the put operation in thread 2 needs to allocate a new page".
    Reading the BDB source code is extraordinarily difficult (which says more about my limitations than about the clarity of the code) but here is what happens, as far as I could determine:
    (thread 1) cursor1 needs and acquires a read lock on db1
    (thread 2) db3->put needs a write lock on db2 to allocate a new page. Since db2 is in the same physical file as db1 and thread 1 already has a read lock, thread 2 waits until the read lock is released. Thread 2 blocks.
    (thread 1) cursor 2 needs a read lock on db3. For some reason, BDB detects that the another thread is waiting for a write lock on the physical file, and thread 1 blocks.
    Both threads block waiting on each other to complete.
    I suppose the system is the way it is to avoid starvation, but there you have it: be careful when you're lumping together multiple databases in one file!
    Anyone who can clarify or confirm this is welcome.
    Vincent

    I had experienced a similar problem. I run multiple process. Each one of them starts a transaction that does db->put and db->pget to its own database (which also has a secondary index). When each database is in a separate physical file there is no problem but when I put all databases in a single file the processes start to dead-lock.
    The following combination of options solved the deadlocking problem:
    - use serializable isolation level instead of snapshot, i.e. do not pass DB_TXN_SNAPSHOT to txn_begin
    - do not pass the DB_NO_WAIT option to txn_begin
    - use Btree instead of a Hash
    Hope that helps.

  • I need to reduce the size of several pdf files before transferring them onto a research database. Each file is made up of 100 images (pages of diaries)

    I need to reduce the size of several pdf files before transferring them onto a research database. Each file is made up of 100 images (pages of diaries) & is up to 1.36 GB in size. I have tried reducing file size in preview but the images are unreadable. Any ideas?

    WHen I want to reduce the file size, I either use "Optimize Scanned PDF", or more often use "Reduce File Size". Both are on the Document menu. The Reduce File Size selection has some limited customization that is used, when selected.

  • Oracle 10g R2 Database Redo Log Files

    I had 3 redo log files, each of size 50 MB. i added 3 more redo log files, each of size 250 MB.
    Database is running in archive mode, files are generating with different sizes like 44 MB and 240 MB, i need to know is this harm for database or not?
    to make all archive redo log files generation of equal size what should i do?
    Please guide

    Waheed,
    When the redo log switch willbe happening,oracle would be asking archiver to log that into the archive file.So in case you have any parameters set to make the switch happen at certain time,depending on the activity of teh database,the archive file size may vary.There is no harm wit the different sizes of the files.What matters is the transaction informaiton contained in them not their size.
    to make all archive redo log files generation of equal size what should i do?
    As mentioned by Syed, you can make the switch happen at a defined interval which will not ensure but still will be a step to make the archive files of the same size.But I shall say you should bother more about making sure that the files are available rather than their size.
